Used to love the courtyard years ago but it went rapidly down hill with dirty dishes and horrible food. I knew someone who used to work there and they told me not to eat there. It’s recently been done out so thought we would go last night to be told my boyfriend wasn’t allowed in because he had a coat on. I’ve never heard something so ridiculous. I went in to get several friends to tell them we won’t be staying and when I got inside almost every person had a coat on. I asked the manager why my boyfriend wasn’t allowed in and he said it’s the door men’s policy. So they lost the custom of ten people, we went to The Tap across the road and had a lovely time.

Visited Thursday 5pm with friends for pre-booked meal.Only told when seated that the website 40% off menu price offer had finished on Tuesday.An embarrassing situation which will probably happen to future customers, as the offer is still showing on their website.Sloppy business practice which will no doubt increase their profit this month.Once bitten, I don't go back for more.

Fabulous tapas, plenty to go round. Staff really attentive and efficient. 40% off on Wednesday couldn't have had better value

here on a Thursday night, first time here. just in for a couple of drinks waiting for our reservation time at the (Michelin starred) restaurant next door. no, not bragging, maybe that's why the drinks seemed to be at a premium. it was ok. busy, but not packed, with most people in the dining area more so than the bar. that said, our first impression was of the noise. it seemed to reverberate around the place making it difficult to have a conversation. another distraction was the décor. now I'm not an interior design buff, I just remember it seeming odd that no two walls seemed to have the same pattern/design. a little disconcerting I thought.again, that said, for just a couple of drinks it was ok. not sure I'd make it my local though if I lived out that way.

This is one of our favourite Sunday afternoon haunts... we go in for 2 for 1 cocktails and some tapas and watch life in Oxton village go by. The staff are friendly and accommodating and the food is a little bit different than the standard pub grub and tastes lovely too.

Firstly I will get a couple of negatives out of the way...the ribs were not good at all and were sent back. There was a group of 2 couples behind us and one of them was vaping throughout the meal. They were joined by others who stood behind us and we couldnt really say anything as the conversation which we could hear was quite intimidating. Positives - 2 for £10 cocktails were lovely. The other sharing plates were decent, especially the pork belly and the halloumi fries. The best bit. The negatives that I highlighted above were dealt with when we flagged them up. The ribs were returned and dropped off the bill and the other issue was dealt with retrospectively and satisfactorily. Promised them that we would come back at some point so it was not a bad experience.

The food was amazing. They're classed as tapas so small plates means you're having your own little buffet at the table. We had 5 plates between 2 of us and this was plenty. The king prawn linguine was divine, the tastiest prawns I've had in a long time. Bbq chicken was succulent and juicy. 2 for 1 cocktails just helped the night along! Would definitely recommend and will be back.

I met friends here on a Tuesday evening for Tapas, with 40 % off, the tapas were really tasty , good portions , not spanish as the name suggests more english , I had plenty to eat at a reasonable price, the staf were pleasant , my only critism is that it was very quiet , i prefer more of a buzz. But I certainly would visit again for the Tuesday and wednesday deal .

Had a meal here food was nice except fotr the cold uncooked chicken , portion of chips were on the very small side, 3 times i took lager back, cloudy and smelly , fosters was cloudy, tiger beer was cloudy , not sure why might be dirty beer pipes , best have bottled beer , they tried to sort draught beer out and could stop getting cloudy beer, make you ill that will

Ordered off the steak section and ordered all the sides and a sauce with it and wasn’t told that I was paying for everything separate even though I was ordering off the steak part of the menu and pointing to it to the waitress. She didn’t tell me that I had to pay for all my sides and sauce separate. My steak main came to £26!! Think you need to just mention this to customers that in fact you are ordering from a different menu and your paying for everything separate if I was told I wouldn’t of ordered it. Very pricey and steak over overdone and dauphinois were raw, we also ordered chips and egg off the kids menu and got egg and soldiers . Was shocked when I got the bill and I told her I was very annoyed and that she didn’t make it very clear. She took full payment and told me she was sorry she didn’t know.

This is generally a good local restaurant to visit for tapas or an early dinner... but Sunday Lunch is a bit hit and miss!

We booked a table for 07.45pm last Saturday. We arrived on time and table was not ready. We then were given a table. 15 minutes later we were then asked to move tables, due to poor organisation.

Food was awful and the service was even worse. Went with a group of friends. Two of us ordered a drink of cola after 30 minutes still no sign. Asked two other staff members and eventually got them. Food was so bad never experienced food that looked and tasted so disappointing. Tried to order more drinks, asked three staff again and got our drinks after 50 minutes. Not surprisingly when we asked for the bill there was no delay and it was on the table in under a minute. After we paid and were trying to enjoy our drinks that took so long to get to us one of the staff kept coming to our table and wiping it down which made us all feel uncomfortable. I know it was a busy night but there was also a lot of staff standing around. Dont waste your time and money go somewhere else.

We had just popped into Oxton for a beer or 2 and decided to have a early evening meal , been here for a drink and this time decided to try the food - it was a great choice , lovely food , great staff & pleasant surroundings.Well worth a visit.

Worst breakfast I’ve ever ate. Service very slow and pretty shocking, waited half an hour before our orders for food even got taken!!! For the majority of them to be wrong!!! This is the breakfast with ‘everything’ but where is the sausage? they forgot, And one piece of bacon is just ridiculous? I also asked for white bread and got given brown then had to ask for butter for the brown bread I didn’t even want. The egg literally tasted like it had been boiled in vinegar!! We all went threw 2-3 drinks waiting for our order to be taken and waiting for food! Safe to say not 1 out the 7 of us will never be visiting here again!

Fantastic food would highly recommend the peppered steak small portion size but delicious and fantastic service! 2 for £10 cocktails an added bonus for the evening.

Visited the courtyard on Thursday. Staff friendly and attentive. The food was amazing and we got a free bottle of wine to enjoy with our dinner! Would definitely recommend. 10/10.

Went on a tuesday evening after 5pm and got 40% off Fantastic value. My sister in-law treated me to a birthday meal and was that impressed, has already said she will have hers there too. The food was Hot, Tasty and fast arriving. Couldn't fault staff and service. Loved it.

Cocktails great , pity the staff weren't!! Rude , and served regulars before we got served , so if your a regular great if not your overlooked and it seemed it was an effort to serve you when they eventually did !!!

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch here. We took my husbands 93 year old mum for her birthday lunch. The staff were really attentive and brought out a birthday pud for her which made her feel really special. The food was really tasty and cooked well and the presentation beautiful.

Where to begin… I booked me and my Mum in for Mother’s Day Sunday dinner. We sat down at 4pm, the bar staff brought over our cocktails which were (to be fair) gorgeous and reasonably priced (hence why I have scored a 1 star).

Visited The Courtyard for the first time today with my sister and our families for a Mothers Day lunch. We had to wait almost an hour for our food but this was to be expected on such a busy day but once it arrived it was amazing. Everything was delicious and so tasty. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Can't believe we have never been here before. We've already booked again for next Friday for a girls night out so that we can try the cocktails.

Travelled up from Derbyshire (2 hour drive) to meet family here for a Mother’s Day Sunday lunch. Table was booked for 1:30, we arrived and ordered. The waitress arrived at the table and plonked a dish of nachos down - told us they were for Mother’s Day. At 3pm we were still waiting for food. When we complained we were told the nachos were given to us because there was a delay and we’d allegedly been told that... finally when the food arrived my daughter’s soup had been under a hot light for so long that when she picked up the spoon she burnt her finger.

After waiting well over an hour for food, in an only 1/2 full restaurant, we were greeted by an abrupt, rude and clearly incompetent manager. When we complained about the time we waited there was no apology, when the food finally came it was plonked on the table, no one returned to see if everything was ok, the youngest of our party (19 months old) had to wait an extra 10 minutes for her meal even though it was obvious she was distressed and very hungry. While I understand that restaurants get busy, maybe short staffed, things go wrong in the kitchen but the manner in which they deal with these scenarios says a lot about them. Oh and by not filling in an accident form when my 5 yo niece burnt herself, they have broken the law. Utterly disgusted and will never set foot in the place again!!

This is by far the worst restaurant i have ever visited. The waiting staff were fantastic and very apologetic. Waited an hour for a roast dinner that was not edible. Food had clearly been reheated so the wait is very strange. Manager Tracy was absolutely pathetic and for the life of me do not understand how she is a manager. The lack of accountability and ownership was scary. I would advise anyone to avoid this restaurant at all costs.

Visited for Sunday lunch but had good envy over the table next to us who had a lovely Indian platter! This was delicious and a decent plate of 2 bhaji, 2 huge tandoori kebabs and popadom and chutneys. Husband had the roast which was fresh with roast potatoes, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and a choice of meats. Gravy was a bit watery but on request a fresh jug was brought out. Staff were lovely, bubbly, personable and happy to explain the extensive menu which consists of fabulous tapas style portions. Good value for 5 of us it was £95 and that included a bottle of white wine, glass of rose wine and 2 soft drinks. We will definitely return very soon.

Really surprised, The Courtyard has some great reviews, but our experience was decidedly average.

We have been to the courtyard many many times over the last few years , it’s always been lovely but the last 2 visits one in feb and last night have been awful , the service has gone totally out of the window , meals coming out at different times , had to ask for knives & forks , sauce and salt & pepper , nearly everything we asked for from the limited menu that was on ( not normal menu ) that had we known about would not of booked , was also unavailable, it was a joke , then even dessert was not all available, it was empty but the service was so slow , no one asked about drinks my husband kept having to wait at the bar to be served, I was shocked at how down hill it has gone , will never now return , to eat Luke warm bland food that we couldn’t even choose what we wanted SHOCKING ! Oh an not one apology for any of the issues , that they had caused .

Was nice food and a good menu too. Service was good, just the later in the night it went it took a while for any service. But it was still really good. Price is creeping up too which is a shame

I booked The Courtyard for a Valentine's weekend meal for my wife and I. We had a nice cocktail in the bar first then went to our table. The bar area was very full and I did realise that being Saturday night it would be bustling, but our table was right next to groups of loud lads all trying to shout over the music, which was also quite loud! We had a speaker right over our table and we could not hear ourselves think! The waitress even said it was too loud and she did move us to a table near the back. We had a nice bottle of wine and our starter of bread, cheese and meats (lovely) arrived soon after. Shortly after that our Tapas arrived.. OMG! The food was absolutely amazing and all cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed the food, but unfortunately during our meal people began filtering in from the bar area and sat down at tables in the restaurant area, so the noise level was pretty loud. I have to say the food and service was really good, but the atmosphere was just too noisy to have an intimate meal. Maybe we were expecting something different, but I think playing loud music right over the tables isn't a great idea when you're trying to have a conversation. No wonder everyone was looking at their phones, they couldn't chat to the person opposite! We would come back, but definitely not on a Saturday night.

Sunday afternoon after a walk, and a visit to the Williamson, we happened to be passing the Courtyard so decided to pop in and try it out, initially intending to just have a drink and a snack. My wife finished up having the Sunday roast, and I had two tapas, the meatballs and the Thai curry! I finished up having some of my wife's as it was too much for her. Everything was very good, except possibly the meatballs should have been hotter. The staff were excellent, efficient and friendly. The ambience was very pleasant and the place clearly very popular.

Our party visited on Saturday 26th January, small change to numbers at the last minute, no problem, this is not the cheapest place to eat on the Wirral but certainly worth every penny, I will certainly eat here again and would recommend it to anyone who wants to eat good fresh food, well cooked and served by friendly staff

We booked here for our annual works night out for Xmas. Every one of us really enjoyed our meal, the food & service was great and the staff very friendly. I have an allergy and the staff were very helpful with the menu choices. Will definitely be back soon.

Chose to come here on Christmas Eve for a meal with my family and once again could not fault the food nor the fantastic service. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our specific dietary needs and the food was delicious. We sampled a variety of the tapas menu and desserts and a couple of their gin cocktails and it was all very good value for money. I would highly recommend and we will be sure to be returning again some time in the near future

WHY doesn't someone take control of this establishment? The food's good but sheesh......We arrived on time to a busy & incredibly noisy restaurant (covering the ceramic floors will help cut the noise). No service for well over 25 mins. We had to literally grab a waiter to order 2 x bottles of wine (we usually drink by the glass but thought best order bottles). An hour+ after arrival, we finally ordered food (but again only after begging a waiter to take our order) the order included 2 x starter sharing platters. Nothing arrived for 30 mins, so again another lynching of a waiter! 5 mins later, out came 8 chunks of bread! 5 mins after that, back went 8 chunks of bread and 10 mins later, we got the sharing platters. 25 mins later, we got the food, including 2 plates which we didn't order and 1 plate we had ordered, was missing. HAD it gone well A) We'd have ordered twice the food and B) Drank twice the wine but as it is so unbelievably badly run, we ran with it - to someone else's house for desserts, coffee and brandy. If you cannot cope with your customers, either don't open or employ staff who can cope. Someone ''in authority'' said ''It's Christmas''. Guess what? We knew that, which is why the 6 of us had got together. Yo ho ho

Really gutted.!!!!! We have just been to the courtyard and where so disappointed. All of the toilets where blocked, in the end I had to walk to another pub to use their loos. Nice !!!! Food was terrible canned/jar of cheap olives where where sliced. I think that they are about 60p in asda not £4 at the courtyard!!!! Fish cakes that I could not eat and frozen prawns. Such a shame. Beautiful location. I would definitely would avoid and go to the bar and terrace instead. We left as soon as we could and went there instead. It may have been because they where so busy but really come on you can not better than that.

Waited around 15 minutes to be asked what we wanted, then 50 minutes for a Nachos Starter, which was literally store bought tortilla chips with melted cheese on top, Dorito Salsa, and two tiny pots of Sour Cream and Old El Paso Squeezy Guacamole which lasted about 2 nachos. Not quite sure how that took 45 minutes. Then a further 30+ minutes for a few Tapas plates of food.

Really disappointing night at the Courtyard. As always the food and cocktails were good but that was overshadowed by poor service. We waited over an hour for any food to arrive but could see food waiting to go out which was ignored. It was ours and by the time it arrived we sent two dishes back which were cold. The table was attempted to be cleared three times while were were still eating and then the lights over the table were switched off. Other people around us also complained about the wait - so disappointing because after three experiences of poor service we’ll think long and hard before going back.

I went here on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago with my Mum and Dad and sister. I was nervous eating out tbh as I have specific dietary requirements and I hate to feel too fussy but honestly the staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious and they had no problem adapting the dishes according to my needs and the drinks were great too. 10 out of 10, definitely going to be returning soon.

Visited here last week with two business colleagues for the first time after stumbling on the place by chance.

My friend and I had dinner here last week and the service and food was just fab. Lots of great gluten free options which were all delicious. There are lots of offers during the week as well. My favorite is the Thursday night deal where if you spend £27 on tapas you get a free bottle of wine. It's our local place to eat. The lady who served us called Tracey was lovely, keep up the great work.

The most bizarre and unpleasant dining experience I’ve ever had. Incredibly slow service (waited almost 90 minutes for our mains), and orders mixed up repeatedly. I saw another table of diners get up and leave as they were so fed up. I wouldnt have been too upset by this had it not been for the attitude of the staff, one in particular whose odd behaviour can only be described as sociopathic and led me to cutting our night short and returning home in tears. The small amount of food I did eat was quite nice, but unfortunately I couldn’t eat much of it as I felt sick due to the horrible atmosphere. I have since found out they only have a hygiene rating of 2, so it’s probably just as well! The whole experience has put me off going out in oxton again let alone to the courtyard. Will stick to Chester and Liverpool from now on!

Had an outstanding night here with friend sharing various tapas dishes - the food was gorgeous and the pornstar martinis awesome Staff as attentive as always and very courteous couldn’t ask for better customer service some places could learn a lesson or two from here

We met as a group of six ladies to celebrate a birthday on a Saturday night.

Booked for 8pm and after at least two reminders the food finally arrived at 8.50pm. No apology and no explanation. To be fair the food was nice but talking to other diners around us the wait is ridiculous. They really need to sort this out.

Booked a table for four for 8 pm to celebrate a family member getting a new job, had drinks at the bar beforehand and at 8 made our way into the restaurant only to stand there for 5 minutes with various members of staff walking past being totally ignored. We finally ordered food and drinks at 815 and at 915 still hadn't received any food. Staff were not bothered when we complained, such a shame as when the food arrived it was all lovely. Either a staff training issue or owner needs to employ more staff as every table was full. We were planning to go to a party afterwards but we're not in the mood to attend as the evening had been spoit and it was 1030 when we received the bill

We had some tapas which were just ok, overpriced for the size and quality of them. Then we wanted a dessert so we ordered the cheesecake. After almost half an hour nothing arrived. I went to the bar and asked and they said they were going to check. I ordered another round of drinks to make time. Finally after no one getting back to me I went to the bar again to get the bill and oh surprise the cheesecake was included. I said I never got it and that was it. No explanation or apology whatsoever, disgraceful.

Went for mine and my wife's anniversary. Booked a table for 2 at 20:15 on wednesday 12/9. Waited over an hour to be told they had ran out of certain items. Ordered alternative items to wait 15 minutes to be told they had ran out. Left in the end. Horrendous customer service.

My partner and I came here for a meal and we were not disappointed. The service was impeccable and the food was beautiful. We were made to feel welcome and our meal was very reasonably priced. Before we had even finished our meal we were planning the next time we would eat here! Would highly recommend :)

Lovely food, there is a tapas menu, also full meals menu to choose from, nice pub/ restaurant and great atmosphere, cocktails bar 2 for 1 , would recommend this, we have returned many of times..

Booked a table for 7.15 the restaurant rang on the day to confirm booking. We arrived table wasn’t ready after 15 mins we asked after table and was told oh it’s that table in the corner !!! We ordered food and that was really good, but after that we did not see a waiter. Had to go to bar to get our own drinks !!! Did we want dessert or coffee no one asked. When we asked for bill we asked to see manager,we explained we where not happy, his reply was I’ve only just come on duty and I’ll have to look at the video footage.this is not a crime scene it’s a restaurant. The manager should know what’s going on at all times. Then the manager came back and said what if I give you 20% off. We paid the bill and left. It’s a shame the kitchen obviously work so hard to produce great food but front of house let them down

Tasty little small plates especially the peppered steak and the sea bass. Reasonably priced wine all in a spacious and pleasant setting

Have been here a number of times with friends and family. Great food and atmosphere. Tapas selection is amazing. Will be back there again soon.

Great meal with a very courteous head waiter who made our visit very welcoming. Lovely people with a good ambiance, music was also good. Cannot wait for our next visit. Thank you Courtyard for making our 15th anniversary memorable 👍👍

Got a table although we didn't book. The food was plentiful and of a great quality. Service was pleasant with a smile. We were told not to speak so loudly by the manager which we felt was rude. A little pricey.

We rented out the function room for a surprise birthday for my dads 60th just under a month ago after a few recommendations/reading reviews, and really wasn't disappointed.

I'v actually been to this place twice in a month or so already before writing this review. The food was absolutely lovely. The service at this place is amazing, they are really helpful with my food intolerance. The environment is lovely and chill. They have air conditioning. Its a great place, I would definitely recommend and I will be going back.

We were very disappointed....vegan and vegetarian meals obviously not a priority. Ended up walking away without ordering, don't go if you are vegan or vegetarian is my advice

Booked a table for 7.30 good Fridays evening, was seated early and then the ordered 15 minutes later. 30 minutes later our food came and that was it for the next 90 minutes, no table service to check on the food, no one offering to...

Went on a busy Saturday night and enjoyed the two for one cocktails till 7pm!.. one of the cocktails was not to our friends taste and was changed with no fuss which was a pleasant surprise. Seated on time and looked after by Andy who took drinks to the table, brought an extra table to set up as we had lots of dishes. The service was spot on, attentive and well paced!. The food was as we remembered absolutely devine - every dish was amazing - we chose 3 each so covered a lot of the Tapas menu. Peppered Steak, Egg and chips, Paella, lamb tagine, all cooked to perfection. We couldn't eat dessert as so full. Love the vibe of this restaurant and the food is just the nicest ever. Great all round dining experience, can't wait to go back.

Party arrived a bit late ,we had 16 guests ,the service from start to finish was fab from all staff especially Ollie who we didn't no was his his first evening he served us all if he had been doing the job for a long time made our evening ,by far a lovely evening apart from the table behind who arrived very late done nothing but moan smashed glasses there must of been about 14 of them wanted something for nothing moaning about the bill even though there was a 40% discount on food still moaned but they had all cleared every plate on their table some people are out for everything they can get shame on them ,staff handled it very professional well done to you all ,thanks for a great night definitely be back stand in manager deserves praise once again thankyou all forgot to say food was fab aswel

Lovely restaurant, attentive staff and a good selection of cocktails. A place where you can visit with friends or family. I'm always made to feel welcome and with the tapas selection each experience is different.

Stood at the bar for over 10 minutes trying to get served! No chance if your a male after a couple of beers! If your a female wanting a shed load of cocktails and shots and spending £40 a round your quids in! I thought I had a Harry Potters invisible cloak on at one point! So went to the OBT nearby and no bother! The serve all walks of life!

Quite simply excellent. Thursday evening we went and had tapas. Each of them were absolutely amazing. One of the best tapas meals I have ever had. The Indian platter and egg with black pudding and chorizo were particularly outstanding.

Very nice place to eat and drink, service was good even tho the place was very busy, drinks were well chilled, and our food order was taken rather quickly, food was good , portions could be a little larger, did nt get many chips . I have been here numerous times, the first being a work meal out and the latest being my birthday. This restaurant is by far my favourite place to eat. I love the tapas menu! the portion sizes are very reasonable for the prices of the plates and it is so nice to be able to have a variety. You are seated as quickly as possible to the time you have pre-booked so not too much time waiting at the bar. The service I receive here has always been perfect and never once has this altered. The food is brought out quick enough you are not waiting hungry but also with enough time for you to enjoy what you are eating before being provided with the next set of selections. My favourite is the peppercorn steak and the goats cheese, I order these every time. The only downside is due to the location you are very limited on parking so I recommend a taxi when possible. I will definitely be returning soon!

I took my 84 year old mother for a birthday tapas lunch.

Great and very generous food. Bread starter delicious. Cous cous, prawns, haloumi, chorizo tapas all fantastic. Roast dinners lovely and good value.

My fault for choosing this place to catch up with some friends on a Friday night.

Went with a friend for a catch up as it was reccomended to me. It was really nice inside and was fairly busy for mid week. We had prebooked. Staff were very friendly and took us to our seat.

Been coming to the courtyard for years great Tapas and great cocktails.What more could you want ???

Friendly staff and owner with good gluten free options and knowledge roast dinner was lovely and could even have their gravy.visited from Manchester after going to tam I shanters farm.

I've had to actually download TripAdvisor to leave this review but in fairness people need to know how amazing this place is. The manager (Keith I think) welcomed the three of us despite not having a booking and them having tonnes of tables in already. There's simply no easy way of describing the place, it's practically faultless and the service is sublime. The highlight of any Sunday excursion for food is the roast and my god this place doesn't disappoint, I would happily recommend to anyone and cannot wait to eat here again soon! Cheers everyone you were boss!

Hi went to Courtyard for my wife’s birthday with my brother and sister in law the service and food was excellent. Keith looked after us all evening and surprised my wife with a birthday treat. When the bill came we got 40% discount which they do on a Tuesday/Wednesday so overall a great evening

Just returned from a most enjoyable birthday meal.The food was fantastic and the service you just couldn't fault,nothing was too much trouble.It was hubby's birthday and even though there was just the 3 of us having a meal they still made a fuss of him .

Went for Sunday lunch with family. Disappointed as roast dinner was not very hot & carrots were quite dente, were other veg was cooked much more. Restaurant manager was very attentive & couldn't of made us feel any more welcome.

A party of 6 adults, 2 children and 1 infant were not enough to throw the intrepid Keith.Keith greeted us as we came in and attended our table throughout our stay attending to our every need in a most courteous manner.We ordered Tapas dishes (4 each) for five of us and one steak dinner (which was superb).The amount and variety of food was enough to give us a great cross section of the chefs skills and it all was of a very high standard.At the beginning of our meal, which was to celebrate my daughter-in-law's birthday, they presented her with a free cocktail which included a presecco slammer.!!!!! and at the end she was presented with a huge sparkling "thingy", to the delight of the kids, on a platter saying "Happy Birthday". Which was a lovely touch on behalf of the "Courtyard".

The drive bks we received were horrible. I had whiskey sours and they had so much lemon substitute it made them undrinkable. The bar was full of dirty glasses. Standards have severely dropped since it opened.
