Had a fabulous meal here with the added touch of the chef popping out to check everything was ok. Food and atmosphere were brilliant. Would definitely come back when in the area.

Excellent place to catch up on drinks and a meal. The lady bartender who prepared our Cocktails was like a magician. I've had the best Ameretto cocktail here!! And the calamari was yummy!

Superb Sunday roast. One of the best we’ve tried in Lichfield. You won’t be disappointed.

We have been traveling round the UK for a month and had a LOT of meals out. We met up with family at the Owl for lunch and all throughly enjoyed our meals there was a great choice of snacks and meals with a good selection of drink options. Anthony the bar person and waiter was very friendly and helpful and the chef came out to talk to all the tables. A great experience!

Spur of the moment decision to visit here for late lunch, simply as we were passing on our way home. Lovely welcome from Ben, great range of drinks and food. Our meals were amazing, the spinach linguini was beautiful, and the halloumi burger was too. Chilli and garlic chicken as a starter and then biscoff cheesecake as a shared dessert. Wonderful food, great service and fabulous value. Shout out to the chef, who popped out to tell us how he'd cooked the linguini (honestly the best I've ever tasted). Lastly Ben was brilliant, personable and friendly, we will definitely be back

I had not been to this place for many years, booked via telephone, very pleasant young man took the details. The food was very nice and nicely presented, the service was very good, pleasant young lady served us. Atmosphere was quiet, Tuesday early evening, table booked for 18:30. Decor was very nice. Plenty of owl figures dotted around the restaurant area. Will be visiting again soon.

Service - fantastic. Nancy was very attentive! Went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Food - good sized portions of absolutely beautiful food! Hot and well presented. Even the food that our kids couldn’t manage was packed up for us to bring away. Brilliant! The pub in general is lovely. Its decor is lovely and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming! I highly recommend it.

I came here for lunch with my parents and boyfriend. We had Nancy serving us who was just lovely and very attentive. She made sure we had everything we needed so Thankyou Nancy! The food was great as well it didn’t take too long to come out and overall we really enjoyed our experience. We’ve been here quite a few times and we will definitely be back!

Just had the best Fish and Chips ever had. The staff are brilliant and really friendly and the band that performs on the last Friday of the month are brilliant - good fun and talent.

A lovely looking pub restaurant let down by poor service and sub par food quality. On our visit, it took 20 minutes after being seated before anybody came to even take a drink order. We ended up placing our food and drink order at the same time, with the drinks then taking a further 10 minutes to come out. The starters fortunately came in good time, we're well presented and tasty. Our mains arrived around 20 minutes after we'd finished our starters, but arrived in stages, with it taking at least 5 minutes between the first and last dish being served (there were only 4 of us). Unfortunately the food quality of the mains was mixed. The steak and ale pie was meat in a dish with a lump of puff pastry on top, the burger looked good, but was fairly bland, the pizza looked and tasted like a frozen item from a supermarket, however the fish and chips were pretty good. After having finished our mains and the plates being taken away, it took so long for anybody to ask if we wanted something else that we had to go and find a server to ask for ourselves. We found that the waiting staff were all stood in a corner having a chat. In the end we opted not to have anything else given the service and food quality we'd already experienced. This place could easily be a lot better if the service staff were switched on and perhaps if the menu was a bit smaller, concentrating on quality rather than quantity. We won't be returning any time soon.

Convenient, friendly stop for a Sunday lunch on our travels. Nancy was excellent and hosted us and all round us so well. Description said a gastro pub, a little bit misleading, it’s far from a fancy Sunday roast but it was warm and friendly and my husband has a great fish & chips.

The decoration is very good. The food is not very good, not as good as the pre-made dishes bought in the supermarket. The service is not bad. It feels like the passion during decoration has become cold after years of repetition. Maybe the boss is having a mid-life crisis.

Deeply disappointed with what was the best of Lichfield. We arrived on a Monday night, quiet as you could imagine. My partner ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, I ordered a peroni and a water. The water never arrived, despite being on the receipt, the wine tasted like vinegar when it did arrive. Food was as nice as it always is, but service sloppy. One member of staff has developed a grating habit of shaking his keys which he wears round his neck whilst he is serving, unsure as to why but I am glad the entire restaurant is aware that he is capable of locking a door. I went up to the bar to order another beer and pay the bill, taking my partners wine with me. I said you can take this (my partners wine) it tastes like it has been open 3 weeks. I received the bill to discover we had been charged for a Chardonnay, which she wouldn’t have been remotely inclined to order. I asked Mr Jingle Jangle which she had been served the Chardonnay or the Sauvignon Blanc and Mr Jingle Jangle responded whichever is on the ticket. I returned to the table we were sat at and told my partner, she had a look at the wine menu on our table to discover not only had we been given a wine we didn’t order that was disgusting but we had been overcharged. Fed up with a day of doing something over than jingling my keys round a half empty restaurant, I let my partner go and approach a member of staff who we have spoken to on numerous occasions, who has always been lovely and more than helpful. My partner approached the bar supervisor, on his day off and was more than helpful in rectifying the situation. The bar supervisor being very apologetic and Ian who we have seen many times albeit this one has always been welcoming and lovely. It’s a shame that the revolving door of staff that we have seen over the last 2 years has resulted in the incompetence of Mr Jingle Jangle. I’d love to return to what we once thought was the best pub in Lichfield but with the rudeness, incompetence and laziness of current staff, I think I will have to wait 2 weeks until we can see an improvement.

Food was excellent, we both had the fish and chips. Service was also prompt and efficient.

couldn't fault the service and the atmosphere, but two steaks were ordered, medium/rare. Unfortunately, they both came out well over cooked, dry, and very tough to chew, which ruined the experience.

Was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and decided to try it for our wedding anniversary meal I was massively underwhelmed and I wish I'd read the reviews before going if I'm honest, the young girl that took our order was lovely but didn't see her again until i went to the bar to pay, our mains were brought out while all out starter stuff was still on the table, the peppercorn sauce was just lumpy milk, if you keep going to bar or going up to members of staff you may get some service, the staff seem lovely but not attentive at all food wasn't great was so disappointing I hate complaining but won't be returning after today's experience

Food was delicious and plentiful. We needed a big table at last minute on a weekend and they accompanied us perfectly. Lasagnas were bad, like really bad. Asif they'd forgotten the white sauce or something? Over done and dry. Was a shame, as, as IV said, everything else was delicious and in big portions. The staff were made aware of the bad lasagna, and it was removed from the bill. Will definitely return 👍

Have been a few times and always enjoyed the food, not been for a while and really disappointed with the quality of the food. Portions were larger, but quality is being sacrificed for quantity, meal was edible however will not be in a hurry to revisit.

Popped in for a drink nice atmosphere

Didn't book and there was 5 adults and 2 children. Had to wait 40 mins for the food, but they did tell us on arrival. Very busy .

Took 5mins to be served especially as me and a friend were the only one's at the bar waiting to be served. No heating on so was fairly cold.

We went here for lunch and on arrival we noticed a lack of staff. I had gammon and chips. The chips were soggy and greasy as if they were re fried. There were 2 staff members in black padded jackets milling about the coffee area who looked very unprofessional. It was our first and last visit.

Lovely place, good value. Very pleasant staff and surroundings. Food is delicious and rich. Food: Starter: duck pancakes with hoisin sauce. Four delicious pancakes and plenty of dipping sauce. Main: spaghetti with chicken in a creamy garlic sauce. A good sized portion. The sauce was delicious, however I couldn't detect any garlic. The spaghetti was perfect, however the chicken was undeniably tough - the only reason I didn't give a five for the food. Dessert: creme brulé. Really nice, very rich, again a good portion. Would definitely recommend and will use again.

Went last night, freezing cold, rushed by staff… only half way through starters and waitress saying mains are ready and do we want them now? No… I’d like a rest between starter and main.. food had just been kept warm on hot plate for 10 mins so not fab., moved into main pub as so cold in conservatory. Just mins past 9pm waitress says it’s last orders . I’d checked closing time as I was being picked up. When I said I did want another drink but not yet was told they wanted to shut down till…. Felt rushed and so unwelcome. When we tried to speak to manager he was rude arrogant and obnoxious, tried to blame the young inexperienced nervous waitress… will not be back!!!

We have just been for a meal at The Owl, we went with some trepidation because of the negative feedback that recent customers have posted but were pleasantly surprised. Although we couldn’t see a lot of difference in the decor, despite the lengthy refurbishment, it certainly looked fresh and clean. Our server - Nancy - was lovely and couldn’t do enough to ensure that we were enjoying our dining experience. After the Duck Spring rolls, that were very nice, we had the Chilli, which was pretty substantial and the Teriyaki Chicken, which was very tasty. We had an altogether enjoyable experience this evening and thought that the venue deserved some positive feedback.

Went for a 65th birthday celebration. A party of 8,6 adults, and 2 kids. Slow service, waited ages for starters and kids food. Pate was nice with real Branston pickle out the jar. LOL I am not joking !!!, Sunday lunch, the vegetables were undercooked, and I couldn't even cut the stems of broccoli. The wife had gluten-free chilli concarne with basmati rice, either over microwaved or left under the lights too long, rice hard, and the chilli was crusty. Disappointed, won't be going again.

Served raw chicken as a kids meal. Pre booked mains but had to wait an hour and 20 minutes after booked time for the first meals to come out. The first plates were finished before the last main came out. The plates were too hot to touch yet the chicken strips were so undercooked they were see through. Also lists egg based food as vegan. Even with money taken off in apology, expensive for poor food.

Food no where near Upton scratch since changing staff and menu very disappointed

Wouldn’t recommend the restaurant despite the refurb. Food was okay at best (stodgy pasta, dry deserts). Service was slow, notably the teenage lads spent most of their time talking amongst themselves. Place is lovely on the inside but not sure what has been changed.

Food was just about edible no sauce in lasagne just meat and cheese and the salad was lettuce only. Chicken and spinach spaghetti was just ok nothing special. Pizza ok and the only decent thing was the burger. Not the same menu as before. No atmosphere and no one checked if everything was OK. Had a look at dessert menu and declined at 7.50 each.

Drink and lunch. The hot steak baguettes turned out to be sliced roast beef baguettes (from the home roast beef sandwich?). Neither the manageress or barman seemed to know the difference or be bothered and thought it a joke. Plenty of other places to eat/drink in Lichfield so we won't be visiting again.

Aesthetically it's a lovely place, but it's run by teenagers who can't do their jobs properly. We spent 2.5 hours in the place and we only had 1 course. Sat with dirty plates for half an hour, waiting 20 minutes for the card machine, waited half an hour for a drink. The food when it finally arrived was mediocre at best. It's such a shame because this used to be a lovely place to go, I won't waste my money next time.

Lovely pub outside and in. The staff were very friendly, service was slow but they were busy. Food not so good; we had fish and chips, half of the chips were hard and undercooked, the fish batter was unusual(!) and I had a chunck of burned meat on the side!! Very disappointed and wouldn't go again.

Took my Mom along for a quick lunch, first since the Owl reopened. Just wanted to mention how lovely and attentive the staff were. Makes all the difference.

Came for a late Sunday lunch. Staff attentive and friendly. We had pork lunch which was nicely presented. However some of the veg were over cooked probably had been cooked much earlier. Roast potatoes and parsnips were not good.plenty of meat and good crackling Cauliflower cheese bought as an extra was delicious. Good beer Overall worth a visit at the right time of day.

8 of us had a fantastic experience today at The Owl. The food was all lovely and appeared and tasted fresh and home made (no way to know for sure). All 8 of us commented how lovely the food was. Ben the young waiter could not have been more polite or helpful if he tried, an absolute credit to tye establishment and I guess his parents. Will deffo go again.

After waiting for the owl to reopen was looking forward to go there again as it was mine and my daughter's birthday 4th Oct , we decided to go , what a disappointment , at 7 o'clock had no rice , no pizza, ordered food , came out cold , sent it back , the moracan dish had chips instead of rice as they had ran out ,carbonara was terrible ,just pile of spaghetti in bowl with the tiniest bits of bacon , the sauce was non existent, honestly will not be returning , very expensive for what you are getting , 😞

Fish and chips .... fish was lovely but chips were non existent? No tartar sauce ? Felt like a lunchtime meal.... not good value. Lasagne was dry and lacked any meat very disappointing. Lots of veg Service could not be faulted lovely place, staff and atmosphere really good but food let it down..

Food was lovely. Had Fish and Chips. The downside was 2 large pieces of fish with very few chips and garden peas served in a ramekin. It was served on a grubby looking piece of wood. Couldn't eat the peas as they rolled off the wood when tipping them out of the ramekin. Would much rather have it all on a plate! Apart from that it was a lovely lunch and nice staff

Nice decor, but unfortunately service very slow, not busy but food took 45 mins from ordering. When it did arrive not hot or up to scratch. Extremely disappointing.

When booking a table a few months ago to celebrate the birth of my granddaughter, l was met with ignorance and not a profitable way to run a business. Table had been booked with a request to be in the main area. As l was passing, l popped in to check. Good job l did. Family, 10 of us in total had been listening to my raving about how wonderful and quirky the place was, sadly the family were not to see it, as they were to be squeezed into the back, very dark, very boring. When asked if we could have a front table, which had been requested, was told no. When asked why, was told by the manager/chef/owner god knows who, as he was sat chatting with friends in a booth, came over and told me resolutely no. When l questioned again, he cancelled my booking. So l contacted The Otter in Hopwas, got the snug, just perfect for all of us. We all had a wonderful time. Spent hundreds of pounds on food and hundreds on drink. So glad l hadn't pre ordered the champagne with the bar staff. So to all those hungry people, try The Otter at Hopwas, you will not be disappointed. A fantastic team of knowledgeable friendly staff a credit to their manager.

Went for Sunday lunch, the service is bad. Ordered drinks, a large rosé spritzer which should be 250mL of wine plus lemonade. When the drink arrived with just over 175mL of wine no lemonade we questioned this, they just added lemonade but still charged us for a large wine plus lemonade. Orange juice and lemonade comes as just lemonade and takes longer than the food to prepare. Manager spends his time sat at tables chatting to what looks like is his mates rather than managing his staff. The fastest thing to arrive at the table was to the bill but nobody comes to take the payment. Food was mediocre, not worth what is charged especially when the service is so bad. Staff knowledge of the menu is poor, we were asked what flavours of ice cream we would like but she did not know what was on offer. Bar staff seem to always be polishing glasses, nobody at the bar yet it takes forever to be served a drink.

Great spot. Cool name for a restaurant/ pub type place. Love the ambience in there. Good lighting.

Food was delicious.and so were the cocktails. Nice atmosphere. Bar service was a bit slow but then again it was a Saturday Eve and the cocktails were very popular.

We all had a lovely time celebrating my daughter's 30th birthday. We had a lovely waitress Yasmin. I totally appreciate its not easy bringing out 30 meals out all at the same time and my only small criticism is that some of the dishes of vegetables could have been brought out throughout the service rather than all at the end as some meals would have gone cold if they had waited for them. We will definitely go and eat there again.

We arrived and our booking seemed to have got lost We were a party of 20. Despite the mix up the staff sorted out a table to seat us all very quickly. Food was different to normal pub fare,served together,meals hot and very tasty. Great service throughout the night.

Enjoyable Sunday dinner and one of our party had the largest burger we've ever seen. Service very friendly, however they forgot to bring a coffee that had been ordered. No quibbles when we asked for it to be removed from the bill though

This was my second visit in six months and as much as last one I graded quite low, but this time, since the change to front of house, I have to say, it's an excellent place to visit and enjoy company and food. Friendly staff offers great recommendations and food comes out fairly quickly. Greatly improved!!!

Very disappointed in this place. Over 20 of us went for a meal here over the Christmas period. We waited over hour and a half for our meals. The portion was small for the money. We were going to order puddings but decided we had waited enough for our main course. Staff couldn't be bothered so we went elsewhere. I would never entertain going back here at all. Food overpriced and useless staff

Traditional and very pleasant pub with very good service, several food options and a comfortable outdoor area for summer days. A place I definitely want to go back to try the foods.

A lovely pub, a lovely atmosphere with good food. Just a bit chilly, I suggest they turn the heating on a bit earlier to warm the place up a bit before the customers arrive. But it won't stop me going back!

Absolutely brilliant. Took my husband for his 82nd birthday. He ordered the steak and ale pie. I ordered rotisserie chicken. Unfortunately the chef dropped the pie and they had no more so he went for the steak instead. The waiter said because we had waited a considerable time for our meals and we were unable to have the pie we didn't have to pay for our meals. Absolutely brilliant we will definitely go back.

We held a large party for 50 people and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Ian and his team were efficient and attentive. The food was fantastic and delivered hot to every person. Highly recommended
