Visited last night for a friend's birthday dinner. It was pretty busy and unfortunately the kitchen was backed up so we had to wait a long time to order. We were a little concerned but we needn't have been! Nat saved the day, gave us some very tasty bread and padron peppers whilst we waited and gave us such brilliant service, all was forgotten. The food was beautiful, gorgeous cocktails and a great atmosphere. We will definitely be back, especially if Nat is serving us! x

Came here for my dads birthday meal on a random Tuesday. It was very busy and it took ages for the waitress to come and take our food order. The food then took ages to arrive and was very sub par. My main arrived and my burger was way undercooked when I specifically asked for it to be well done. I think the chef had just had enough and couldn’t be bothered to be honest. My chips tasted undercooked too. I sent the burger back and it took ages to come back and when it did it was basically cremated and inedible. The only plus was that our waitress was lovely and very apologetic and they gave my dad a free glass of bubbly and took my burger of the bill.

Came here for lunch with some friends. The resturant is decorated nicely and we had a large table which was helpful with prams and babies. The staff were friendly and the small menu had good options which change regularly , which is usually a good sign that things are fresh.

Popped for a quick drink. The place had a group of young mums with their babies , no problem of course, but they behaved as if they owned the place with little or no regard for other people. While others were changing their babies on top of the restaurant’s table, one put her baby right under our noses and proceeded with changing its nappy while we were sipping our drinks trying not to look. Are toilets meant to be used for something else in that place?? Maybe you need to introduce “etiquette rules for changing your baby in public” or just put a sign out “mother-baby session in progress”, beware of nappy changing near you!! Seriously…

I never write reviews but feel compelled to write this one. We just had an evening meal at The Orchard in brockley and I have to say the food was well below standard. I had the vegan option, the stuffed cabbage which was so tough that I couldn't cut through it and when I did it was impossible to chew, so had to leave all the cabbage behind... the rest of the dish was just about edible but very dull. My daughter ordered the kids pasta and it looked and tasted like baby food you might get in a jar from the supermarket. My husband's fish was well cooked but the potato rosti was bland and unseasoned. This restaurant is not cheap so really you'd expect a much higher standard of cooking. Very very disappointed and definitely wont be going back.

The staff were lovely, the atmosphere great - however the food did not match up. My burger was raw in the middle, fully raw. The bun had clearly come straight out the fridge, along with the cabbage and gherkins - they all had that cold, fridge taste. There wasn’t nothing to tie it together. A a lazy attempt. This cost me £16. My guests “pie” was just cheese and over cooked leaks. Again, poor. The prices and the poor food disused me from returning.

We went for lunch and were quite impressed with service, decor and food. The restaurant was very busy, in part due to current government scheme, but service and food was still great, well paced and friendly. I really like the menu size- not too big but a good range of options and good choices for vegan and vegetarian as well. The presentation of the food was beautiful and there were some nice flavour combinations I haven't had before. We've been before for their cocktails and as a cafe for drinks, which I would also recommend, but we were really impressed with our meal. Good choice in Brockley.

Most impressed by the high food quality, decent portion sizes, cheery staff, cosy atmosphere and interesting menu at this spacious, dog-friendly eatery. Maybe not the cheapest choice in Brockley, and, alas, it lacks a nice outdoor dining area, but it still is one of my favourite any-occasion watering holes.

Our party of 12 initially had an unwelcome surprise in that there were two separate tables for 8 and 4 reserved with no stated ability to join them together due to 'health and safety reasons', but sense prevailed when the owner most solicitously sorted things out and our book club had a very enjoyable evening at one long table. Food was excellent and service was great - helpful and friendly and there when you wanted them. The Gamma Ray lager was fab and the Malbec tasty. Nice venue - background music was exactly that - in the background. Based on that visit I'd highly recommend it.

We ordered chicken&rosemary schnitzel and steak burger. Portions seemed small at the first glance, but we got full very quickly and I haven't even finished mine, and not because I didn't enjoy it, not at all. I used to think that if you order a burger, you have to deal with the fact that burger meat tend to be quite chewy. Not in this place. Meat was unexpectedly tender and perfectly cooked. Same goes for schnitzel. Chips were fresh and crispy as well. Chef surely knows his job. Plus, creamy mustard sauce which accompanied the schnitzel was delicious. We dropped by on Saturday without any booking. Restaurant looked full, however the guy found where to seat all 4 of us anyway, and we got served very quickly, which was especially valuable, as we were very hungry and tired after a long trip.

I have been coming here on and off since it first opened and the Orchard just gets better all the time. A recent dinner of lamb rack with dauphinois potatoes and cabbage was faultless. The eggs benedict served morning and daytime are always great. Service is friendly and efficient. The menu is both big enough to offer a reasonable choice and small enough to guarantee fresh, high quality ingredients. There are also interesting choices on the drinks menu. Even the bar snacks are yummy so you can just go for drinks and top up on the carbs if you need to. The only downside can be getting a table as it has such a winning formula. How bad?

We started with the tomato and basil soup which was very acidic. The bread was seared black which tasted burnt. The chorizo burger was ok but not the best quality chorizo. I had the stew which was tasty but had only a couple of small pieces of meat and was bulked out by tiny tinned mushrooms. We ordered a bottle of house white wine. It turned out to be the cheapest warmest wine we've had for a long time. They should maybe think about decanting it into a carafe if they are going to continue selling such cheap plonk for £19 a bottle. Service was ok but 10% was automatically added to the bill which I hate if I'm having to pay by card because you don't if the waitress will ever see it.

Right. It's like this. I first went to The Orchard a year ago and had the best steak I had ever eaten in my whole life. Completely perfect - char-grilled outside, pink and tender inside - with delicious chips. But I was slightly incredulous - surely the best steak ever couldn't be lurking in a small restaurant in south London? Surely that must be in some ultra-posh joint somewhere in the world? I couldn't quite believe it. So I didn't write a review straightaway (sorry, Orchard people). I went back several months later with my son and he agreed. Best steak we had ever eaten in our lives. So I had to go back a third time just to double check. God knows it's a tough job but someone's got to do it. Yes. Best steak I have ever tasted anywhere. So there it is - simple as that. Try it - you'll see. It's the bavette steak. Nice place, nice people, good beers and wines too. And no, I don't work there or own it!

I've been here a couple of times and the food/atmosphere is always lovely. I like going here as I have a small dog and they let dogs in (as long as they're well behaved). However went here a couple of weeks ago, and I know it was a Friday night so places are bound to be busy however this was a mess. There was two of us and it was 5.30. We sat at a table that had to be given up by 7, that was fine. However the kitchen had just shut so we had to wait until 6pm to order, again that was fine. It got to about 5 to 6 and we asked for menus, to which we were told we couldnt even look at them until 6. 6 o'clock comes, the 3 waiters walked past us about 5 times each and ignored us as we tried to get their attention (I understand its busy but just not making eye contact with customers to avoid them isnt really on). Eventually we got someones attention and asked for menus, we said we'd like to order quick as by this point it was 6.15 and we didnt want to hold the people up who had reserved the table. Menus took over 5 minutes to get to us, then the guy walked off even though we said we pretty much knew what we wanted we just wanted to check the menu hadnt changed. Finally ordered at 6.35, and food was quick, not as good as usual but okay, so we finished eating dead on 7. We asked for the bill, and our plates weren't even taken. We said we would stand by the bar for the bill so they could clear for the other people. Eventually we got the bill at 7.15. But by this point we were stressed as we had the dog with us too and there was a lot of people in the bar area who kept (Accidentally) knocking him or treading on his feet. We finally paid the bill and left quick and it was no where near the enjoyable meal we wanted out. It's a shame as I really loved it here but I am now hesitant to go back as it seems like unless you go on a Monday night there is never enough staff to cover and they have no interest in actually being good servers.

I go to the Orchard at least once a week to sit on the comfy sofas, use the wifi to do some work, and have a drink (as well as occasional (very fine) dinners). But today I went for breakfast for the first time - and it was *excellent*. The pancakes were every bit as good as I'd hoped, and I also had serious fry-up envy of both the veggie breakfast (halloumi) and the meat variety. My friend also noted, while tucking into an impressive-looking Bloody Mary, that the selection of beers was particularly impressive. Brockley is lucky to have this place - both the food and the staff are lovely.

Came for a late lunch. A good selection of light meals, attractive, well prepared but slightly under-seasoned. Wide drinks selection. Busy but pleasant service

I visited the orchard a few weeks back with my kids and it's the second time I've been. My first visit was with work colleagues. One of whom is intolerant to everything and picky beyond belief. Unbeknown to me she called ahead and enquired as to what was on offer for her. When I heard this words already I was breaking a sweat. Lunch with her can be stressful to say the least and often involves at least one dish being returned. However she told me that the gentlemen who answered the phone was knowledgable about what he could offer and assured her he would find options should she not be pleased with the menu. First hurdle done. To keep it brief. The meal was incredible and they didn't need to do anything special as the menu was full of options and gave her plenty to choose from. Relief. She's also a cocktail queen and the drinks equally met her high standards. Chilli passion fruit martini is better than any I've had in a high end cocktail bar or dining room. It's worth a visit just to try those. The cocktail list was extensive and for somewhere small and local this in itself is a feet. Making fresh cocktails is a huge job and to do it well is admirable. I've been to lots of bars who should be able to match this standard and don't come close. On my second visit I went with my two children who are under 4. We went for supper and again it was amazing food. I live in hackney and shamefully on most occasions believe that we have the best local dining options in London. With all our trendy pop ups and inventive tasting menus. But I'm glad to occasionally be proven wrong. I've eaten all over the world and cooked food by some of the best chefs. And I can safely say hand on heart this place is a local gem by far beating the cooking skills of its hackney counterparts. The beef and Bernaise is delicious. The staff new plenty about their butchers which I always like. And it's flavours were exceptional. The venue is bubbly and family friendly. We loved it and would recommend highly. Go now! I'm packing my bags as we speak and hot footing it to brockley. Fewer hipsters and much better food!

I came for brunch on a very quiet weekday, yet my order was somehow missed. I was left nursing a coffee for 45 minutes, even though I had said that I had come in to eat. When I finally went to find the waitress (who it turns out was the manager) she was sitting on a bar stool, chatting merrily away to the barista. She didn't like it when I said I had been waiting for ages and where was my food. She back-chatted me, argued as to how it wasn't her fault, and they to my astonishment, when I had gone back to my table, came over and gave me a telling off! I had to make a show of ignoring her until she gave up and went away! Reading other reviews, it seems that other customers have also fallen foul of her need to put across her point of view, to the detriment of their dining experience. What a shame, as the food is nice (if expensive) and the room is pleasant. Pity it is run by someone with the customer service skills of Norah Batty.

A rainy sunday Brunch. Loved the home made Baked Beans and Tomato sauce with the full english, great (thick) Bacon, lovely sausage and a nice touch allowing eggs to be to order. Lovely toast as well and overall most satisfying. Not sure why for a 'Full' English, grilled tomatoes are not included and needed to be ordered as a side given the meal cost c£10?Great coffee as you would expect. Lovely ambiancehomely feel and attentive/friendly staff.I noticed that they allowed dogs in which I thought was a nice touch.

Another great trip to the orchard, portions are generous and the menu changes regularly. The service is excellent and personable, the manager Scottish Jen is a gem and makes you feel at home. They are very family friendly which means it is relaxed enough for an early family dinner. Cocktails are killer if you want a different kind of night. I highly recommend, just wish they would open another branch closer to my house

I had been here for dinner which I thought was a bit pricey, but lunch is a much more reasonably priced affair - and just as filling. My friend's quiche and salad was huge and (she told me) delicious. My pasta with salmon and prawns was gorgeous and equally generous. Beware though if u don't want to be surrounded by babies. Nearly every table had at least one if not two or three babies or toddlers so if u don't want to be with small loud messy people avoid lunch time! To be fair to the orchard they were quick to sweep up the under table mess and wipe table tops but by the end of the meal we couldn't hear ourselves speak for the exuberant 1 year old 's shrieking next to us. Sorry to be curmudgeonly!

The Orchard is somewhere between a café bar and a restaurant, with touches of a pub. The staff are friendly and the service is good. Food prices are reasonable, wine more around restaurant levels. The real plus is the layout and atmosphere, which lends itself to enjoying a relaxing evening with family or friends.

I went there for brunch with my friends and would definitely go there again. We had the vegetarian full English breakfast and it was delicious! We also tried to have some cake but were already too full and left that delicious piece of banana loaf half-eaten (what a sin!). I would recommend booking in order to avoid any disappointment.

A cozy and friendly local restaurant which was packed on a Friday evening and deservedly so. Excellent food and for vegetarians, an imaginative choice without a single mention of butternut squash risotto! Bliss! Service was attentive, if a little too quick as there was little time between starter and main course. What was very welcome was the choice of deserts, the prune and brandy creme brûlée was fantastic. Again, no sign of the tired and dull sticky toffee pudding. It is clear that the menu has had time and effort spent on it and the food is prepared well. Not particularly cheap but for the quality and imagination, the place is certainly good value for money.

The food here is always excellent and Sunday brunch didn't disappoint. I took the family on Mothers Day and even though it was very busy, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and found us a table and high chairs. They brought the children's food straight away and they loved it, the blueberry pancakes are amazing. Our full English and eggs royale were also excellent and the coffee is fantastic.

Very good British cuisine. Went as part of large party in Dec 14 and returned in Dec 15. LIked the decor, like a bistro rather than being too formal a restaurant. Very friendly service. Very near Brockley station, so convenient also to locate. Went for dinner. Roasts seem there speciality but other choices too.

Came here to sample the roasts on a Sunday, as our usual place was fully booked. We decided to go for the beef and the lamb, to sample both on offer. The place was busy, but had a really chilled out vibe about it (with good service). The roasts left us both full (and we usually order pudding- but no room), and we thought was very good value. The meat was tasty, vegetables good (slightly on the al dente side), decent potatoes and outstanding yorkshire puddings. However, let down by 2 minor points, which can easily be changed, and I really do hope this gets read by someone there, as I intend for this to be my new go-to place in Brockley. My first point is that the plates should maybe be warmed in the oven beforehand, as my beef was cold halfway through my meal, The second point is that both sauces (mint and horses-radish) came already on the meat- and was not scrimped on at all. I would suggest that you either put this on the side or even separately, so this can be added to suit individual taste- I hate horseradish sauce, and so my partner got a sizeable chunk of my meat which i could not eat- despite scrapping it off. Look forward to trying their breakfasts which they serve till 4.

We visit here fairly often, since it's very close to where we live. Usually it's for drinks only, but on Christmas Eve, we decided to try out some food. Bavette steaks were recommended, which came with thick hand cut chips and watercress salad. If I was to criticize anything, it would probably be that it was a slight over-salted for my liking, but the char grilled flavour was beautiful. Along with 2 large bottles of ELB Cowcatcher craft beer, it came to £44 for 2 including tip. Whenever we come here the service is always great, which is probably the main reason for our repeat visits.

We stopped at the Orchard for drinks after a day out and the cocktail selection was great and you can see the staff taking time and care in making your drinks, however some drinks do seem abit pricey! The orchard was cosy and had a nice atmosphere but my table and i were constantly getting up to close the front door, the staff were nice but seemed oblivious to it and we ended up taking turns to close it ourselves to avoid being in a constant draught which spoiled our visit slightly.

I visited this restaurant on Saturday night as one of a group of four, my daughter lives nearby and she had recommended it.I have to say she got it right ! The staff were engaging, natural and good humoured. Although fairly busy they served us very prompty and were attentive. I had the Steak which was absolutely superb, so often in the past I have been disappointed with the quality of Steaks served up in general in the UK compared with for example the USA. This time there was no disappointment whatsoever. It was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious and tender . There’s no more to say other than If I lived in the area I would be visiting every week!!

For a relatively small local restaurant, The Orchard constantly punches above its weight. The menu is creative, seasonally led combining locally sourced ingredients with a really creative approach to cooking. I live about 15 minutes away, and visit almost every week, and each time am blown away by the quality of cooking; truly, it holds its own against much more expensive, much more hyped restaurants in central London. Always busy, it's well worth booking in advance (particularly on Thursday, Friday or Saturday evenings, or Saturday/Sunday brunch) but is never crowded. Lovely and friendly staff are very attentive, the cocktails are great, and the wine list delivers really good quality.

We went here to celebrate our Daughters birthday. This was the first time we had visited so quite excited having reviewed the website. I must say the informality, service and food is excellent. There were six of us and all had a variety of starters and mains, washed down with Prosecco and beer, lovely. The starters were served in time and presented well. The pigeon and Mackerel were the favourites and for mains the steak took some beating although followed closely by risotto and sea bass. Pudding for those that could manage it went down well also. The waiting staff are really good, very friendly and attentive and know what they are doing. We really enjoyed our meal and it was reasonably priced too. Will definitely be going back and it is worth a visit.

Good place and good coffee, however, I felt under pressure when paying my bill because it didn’t include a service charge, and the lady said if we wanted to contribute the final bill wouldn’t include the service charge. Not that they don’t deserve some extra money, but if they want the service charge to be paid, please include it in the final bill - instead of asking the customers. We felt embarrassed and contributed. Overall, the place is good.

I stumbled across this little gem by pure accident. Such a warm, friendly place, all accepting. The Cortado (Piccolo) was amazing and the food I saw looked and sounded wonderful. Next time you are in the area, pop in, you won’t be disappointed .
