I stumbled across this little gem by pure accident. Such a warm, friendly place, all accepting. The Cortado (Piccolo) was amazing and the food I saw looked and sounded wonderful. Next time you are in the area, pop in, you won’t be disappointed .

I've been here a few times and can firmly say that everything I've eaten here has been lovely - both staple brunch dishes and specials. The chef is obviously very conscientious and cares about the quality of each dish. It's very much appreciated. Best brunch in New Cross.

Lovely little cafe with unreal coffee and gorgeous salads and sandwiches. Great place for a local brunch. My favourite (before I was veggie) was the bad veggie sandwich - a halloumi and bacon sourdough sandwich which is very delicious - would recommend!

Based in up and coming New Cross, The London Particular puts all Hipster wannabe Shoreditch cafes to shame. If you're going on a weekend expect to queue up for a table (very little space inside)...but it's well worth the wait...or even taking a day off work to visit them for brunch. Good service and super chilled atmosphere. You're not rushed to leave once you've finished your meal or pressured to buy more. Some people come in on their own and work on their laptops other arrive in a group and enjoy lively conversation. The menu is diverse enough and caters to different dietary requirements. The food looks, smells and tastes great. Same goes for the coffee. What's not to love!

It's hard to say the best restaurant in London, only because there is great food in all corners in London. YET! When after visiting the city and its restaurants several times, tried lots of great places and still when home I'm literally dreaming of a London Particular Bowl and when I'm there the first and last place I visit is always London Particular... I have to say this is the BEST place for me in London. Before I went in I passed the place several times, didn't even know there is an operating restaurant in there. .The atmosphere of the place is special, quirky, minimalist with the best taste using a couple of special, nostalgic objects, almost bringing us back to old times when life was simpler and tastes truer. The people/staff are friendly. One of the staff members daughter and husband came by and it was the cutest scene ever how they played for a couple of minutes, making us all being part of their family for a couple of minutes. But the highlight of the whole restaurant is THE FOOD! Perfectly seasoned, big portions, smart taste combinations, best quality ingredients and the serving on the plates are matching the place, making the experience whole. My favorite is the London Particular Bowl and the Rib daily special. Juicy, huge rib, amazing seasoning and for like 10 pounds?! I couldn't believe my eyes how that huge portion was so cheap! (Thank you btw!) And the London Particular bowl is what I'm dreaming of often with the mexican hot chocolate made of real chocolate. All in all: the BEST place! Go, try it for yourself and let us know about your timetravel experience.PS. I would like LPB delivery to Switzerland, like now. ;)

Very enjoyable experience at The London Particular. Very cool spot with friendly staff and a good menu. The staff seemed busy which was fine but the service felt a little all over the place and the server forgot our water, which is not the biggest deal but loses them a point. (Service could be a little more attentive). The menu was a nice selection. We were worried it would be the regular over-priced and under satisfying hipster story but the sandwich we ordered (The Bad Vegetarian) was delicious and filled us. The coffee was nice but not particularly hot.I would go back!

This is a friendly, cosy place to have brunch. The veggie brunch (with halloumi) really hit the spot and for £9 seemed decent value to me. Though the inside seating is limited and a little cramped this is not somewhere you'd hang about for long so absolutely fine for what it is. I would recommend this place for if you're in the area. Decent drinks menu and specials board. Dessert too if you fancy.

Went here with my partner, it looked like an arty cafe at first but when we went inside it seemed to be occupied by 30 something flat white and Apple Mac using type. The waitress's was rather weird and cold and sort of stared at us when we ordered coffee. We order the 'English breakfast' . First of all the food came first after around 30 mins, baring in mind the place was not busy. We were presented some sort of middle class version of a traditional English breakfast. The beans where homemade, and coincidentally awful. The rest of the breakfast was bland and not even worth mentioning. We payed around 10 pounds for this food. The coffee then arrived almost as we finished our meal. The coffee was okay. This place is good if you want to check on your emails whilst drinking your coffee, but that's it.

Waited 30 mins for 2 breakfasts. Beans were like pebbles they were so hard and tasted of nothing. £8.50 for each breakfast was a complete rip off. We were asked about 10 times if the drinks that were coming out were ours- just use table numbers. BreAd wasn't toasted and considering the beans were so gross there was nothing to eat with the bread anyway. Left feeling hungry and ripped off. Staff are at least very friendly and polite and the atmosphere is good, I haven't been in ages so perhaps it was an off day but I wasn't loving it. Also £3 for a 250ml OJ!

Had a lovely lunch at the London Particular. The restaurant is very cozy and located close to the station. We had the aubergine chickpea and lamb sausage stew. Very yummy and wholesome. The belly pork was also great and was complimented by a perfect apply purée and mash. Highly recommend both dished. Decor is very low key with one large wood table surrounded by smaller initiate 2 seater tables. It's nice to have a drink next door or outside too. They also do a happy hour. The food was really good however the service really let the place down. The waitress was really unfriendly and seemed like she was doing us a favour by handing us the menu. We then waited 30 mins for 2 cold sandwiches. ..it was meant to be cold but surely that should take less time to make. Another lady left before her food arrived as it was taking too long. The manager also took up a quarter of the communal table with his laptop and paperwork...would have thought he would have given up the space as the place got fuller. Seems like the staff are focusing their attention on trying to act cool...been to many places where the staff are genuinely cool and at no expense to the customer service. LP have no personal customer service touch and I would not recommend based on this.

When I have brunch there is one thing it must involve and that's a fried or poached egg. So I was distraught not to find any eggs on the brunch menu except boiled eggs. A full English with a boiled egg just doesn't hit the spot. So i went for a hallumi sandwich. Tasted yum and I enjoyed it but it wasn't my idea of 'brunch'. To give me that breakfast feel instead of just a lunch vibe I ordered some beans on the side. What turned up was the chiefs version of beans. For the love of God people pls don't mess about and give people anything other that Heinz ketchup or Heinz beans (or something pretty similar)!!! Nothing else hits the spot. Breakfast meals are all about the holy trinity of salt, sweet, fat. Take anyone of those away and you're screwing around big time with the satisfaction and contentment u get from a good breakfast. Tis a sin! On this occasion these beans were savioury and I didn't enjoy the flavour. My boyfriend ordered some simple toast but it never arrived. The place seemed to be full of students who are obviously very lucky these days cause I couldn't afford breakfast somewhere like this when I was a student and that was only 8 years ago. I'd have 'lunch' here again but I'm in no rush to get back.

Sitting on the pavement tables on a summer August afternoon would be perfect at The London Particular if it were not for the busy, loud, polluted new cross road beside which you are sat. The service is pretty average, but exactly what you should expect from a trendy little cafe like this, attentive, but not overly concerned. The coffee is good. I personally prefer Brown of Brockley a short distance away, but this is definitely the running up in the local area. The food however is the highlight for me, simple, very honest, well put together menu reasonably priced, and pretty healthy on the whole too! All in all a great little place for any occasion.

Came here for a straightforward bite to eat and a coffee. The barrista here knows his coffees and is also a bit of an artist, milk wasn't burnt, looked pretty, tasted even better, i asked for a flat white and got a flat white, not a bad latte or a milky americano. I had the soft boiled eggs which were cooked perfectly and presented well with fresh mushrooms, rocket on muffins with bacon rashers. Really nice how this place adapts throughout the day to eventually become an intimate cocktail bar in the evenings. They have a small but solid collection of craft beers to cool off with in the modest outdoor seating area and even the wines are well chosen - nice to see that no matter how small the establisment, no aspect has been brought less attention to. Great little place. Friendly, underated and easy going.

Really amazing food- I have to say, saving grace! Everytime I've been I've had bad service. A few saturdays ago I went in and ordered a few coffee's, as did the guys next to us. They still hadn't arrived after 15 mins. So, when we ask the waiter, he stopped in his tracks .... "sorry, the guys on the coffee are being really bad today and not listening to me" ....what about working as a team mate? If you can see your barista is having a tough time- go and HELP THEM!. If I was running this place Id sit down all my staff and get them to understand that a happy work place and one that works together as a team is on that works! .. I will go back, because i like what you're doing, but i thinks all this feedback on your staff is important, as you will loose customers if this goes on.

Visited last Friday, for a quick lunch with a friend. As usual the food was tasty and the coffee is honestly some of the best I've tried in London. Can't go wrong... Especially in the local area, it really stands out. Some reviews on here complain about the service but I've only ever found the waiters to be approachable and chatty. By chance, I overheard a member of staff speaking about their evening menu and inquired, only to find out they're open Thurs through Sat for Dinner, with a 'small plates' menu. Pleasantly surprised, I booked for that evening and wow - their Smoked Bacon special was out of this world. Salivating thinking about it... AND they accommodated for my picky teenager's ever changing dietary decisions. Will be back soon for dinner!

This used to be a fave of mine, the food was great and service was warm. Since then the guys behind the Particular have launched a fish and chips (posh version) next door and a cool hoxton-esque bar the other side of the original Particular. It had been a while since I last visited so made a b line to the place on Sunday for lunch. OK it had gone 3pm so call it a very very late lunch. Service was non-existent and we had to chase the overworked girl trying to serve over 20 people. When we finally flagged her down (after around 15 mins) the food which is the usual saving grace of the place was a real let down...I noted their was a new guy cooking - but really dis-appointed how the place has gone down.Perhaps the crew are over -reaching and to be fair a recent visit to the fish and chip shop was good, good service and great food, but I suspect the founders are focusing on their new ventures and leaving this original place to rest on its laurels,They now do evening meals part of the week, so my review is based on day time eating, but unless you're popping in for a flat white and chill and watch the cool hipsters of SE8, steer clear for great food....a shame

Unfortunately the service isn't brilliant here but the food was great. My boyfriend and I came for dinner one Friday night. There was a bit of awkwardness at the door as we had to interrupt the staff having a conversation to see if they had a table. We were told one was paying up and to get a drink next door while we wait. The venues are part of the same company but have different drinks menus, so we decided to wait in the restaurant. We were sat at a nice table at the back and had about 5 small plates to share, along with a carafe of wine. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is really lovely. We had to ask for our plates to be cleared and then to pay once we had our bill, which I find particularly frustrating in small venues, but not the end of the world. This place is local to my boyfriend and a real gem, we will definitely be back.

Went for brunch here today hmmm..staying in the area..read the reviews..thought 'I'll give it a go'..run by late twenty/thirty something's wearing the same look as a million other people of their age group..friendly enough and helpful.. the layout was like a hundred places I've been before all offering 'something different' but you end up thinking, am I in Bristol or Oxford..maybe bath or London..the alternative look that has become so uniform in 'up and coming' areas. I opted for the breakfast bowl..soda bread, tomato mushroom baked beans sausage and spinach (£8) with a soft boiled egg (no poached scrambled or god forbid fried option) and a portion of 'roast potatoes' adding another £2 making a total of £10.. Coffee was extra at £2 so a total of £12 in all. It arrived in around 15 mins (hardly anyone there, more staff that punters) and call me tight or mean or a grump old woman but I thought 'what the heck is this?' . Firstly, no spinach, actually thank the gods as I didn't really want green teeth that early in the morning, secondly, considering there were three of us for brunch and the total cost for the meal was thirty pounds..yes THIRTY POUNDS for six chipolatas, three mushrooms, three small eggs, two large spuds diced and fried, three to five table spoons of beans and three slices of (I must say here fab) soda bread I nearly died..and yet others seem to be fauning over the food and the ambience (on the roadside of the A2 in New Cross). Am I just a moaner or is it as I suspect a case of the emporers new clothes where no one is strong enough to actually say 'hang on a mo..what am I paying for? there is nothing new here to warrant the price..go to Waitrose and get some decent Gloucester Old spot sausages and free range eggs beans mushrooms etc...you'll save yourself a packet and at least you'll get a free coffee, if you join my Waitrose, to drink on the way home to your own kitchen where you'll be able to turn out a better meal in the comfort of your own home (or team up with a mate and agree that as you bought the nosh they cook it!) don't go to The London Particular unless of course you really do have more money than sense..

I thought the prices were very reasonable, with my dish coming in at about £7.50 (would have cost a fiver more for the same thing in Shoreditch, I'm sure).I'd also add that it's super-easy to get to - right next door to the Overground and a 5 minute walk to the DLR. That said, 20 people mean that service should be faster and waited 10 mins for a salad which was just sitting in a bowl on the counter. Ordered the quiche, which took 15 mins to arrive and only on paying did I notice, it was sitting on the window about 5 yards from us, so it should have taken max 2 mins to cut it, plate it, put some salad from a ready made pot on it and serve it. The other 13 mins was spent standing around by the waitress chatting to the cook. This is a very artisan venue, slightly alternative apart from the bill which is very commercial and pricey. They seem to get customers as in that part of town, there is nowhere else to eat as most of the shops boarded up.

A gem, I think this place is just fabulous, the creative & thoughtful menu is wonderful. Love the seating arrangement too. Its a tiny place but it has All. Have been there twice & it will be my choice of place every time am in the area.

We waited an hour for a couple of bacon sandwiches to arrive, two halloumi sandwiches and one granola. There was no apology for the delay. The food order turned out to be wrong and had to be sent back. Though the food was tasty (once we eventually got it), the bacon sandwiches consisted mainly of bread than bacon. Expect very few rashers.Won't be heading back there in a hurry, unless we have a couple of hours to spare.

It offers a really interesting though not extensive menu. It's a little pricey for what you get but it has a friendly, cosy and hip atmosphere. It's worth a visit. 3.5.

Coming home from Q.P.R vs Birmingham game Sat. Afternoon (QPRs 1 b/ ham 0 ) were on the lookout for a bite to eat and my daughter suggested the Particular from past experiences as it is near their flat, so we ended up there around 7.30pm. Really friendly staff, and as a few people before have said a bit hippy with a few hanger arounds, but great food. We had the six main dishes to share and they were all gone in no time , but were still filling. My daughter and her boyfriend have gone there for breakfast a couple of times and enjoyed it.I will be going there for breakfast with my wife and son and his girlfriend tomorrow before heading off back to Aust.

Off the beaten track, not bad but not sure why it is here? Its quite hip and the food and coffee are great. Expensive for what you get, service is informal and good. Not sure about the loud rap music though .... Tables on the pavement , but busy dusty noisy road. I'm not sure if I recommend going here out of the way. However if you are in the area or passing by pop in for a coffee. If you have money to burn then try the food it is good( but not that good you can overcharge for it)

The food is really good, if a little pricey, I've eaten breakfast lunch and dinner separately here but the third time just hasn't rendered me charmed. The chef has a bit of an attitude (it's a tiny place with lots of staff so it's not like it's manic) and tends to make personal comments (of which I have experienced and myself and my friends found this a bit awkward and uncalled for...). The coffee takes ages for them to make but tastes ashy and the staff think they're totally cool and chilled, man. They seem to be a little too preoccupied with being hip to give you any 'genuinity' (to quote from the apt Urban Dictionary). BUT, like I said, the food is good and there's lots to choose from. The bad coffee, pretentious staff and poorly justified pricing just seem to outweigh it for me though.

Absolutely nice little restaurant with a friendly and engaging staff, light inspired cuisine and a tasty choice of breakfast. It surely will be one of our favourite places whenever we stay in South London.

The food is actually really nice. A lot of veggie options, and relatively healthy. It's becoming more and more hipster (perhaps because of proximity to Goldsmiths college which in turn is becoming more and more hipster), but overall it's cute and rustic and yummy and lovely in summer.

The London Particular is a bit of a hidden gem of South London. We've been in a number of times previously and it's always busy so you do struggle to get somewhere to sit in this tiny eaterie, but it's well worth the wait or the cramped seating arrangement. It’s incredibly cute and boho without being pretentious or just for ‘yummy mummies.’As you walk in, you pass the counter and the kitchen and can see all the food being made. It smells delicious, hearty and healthy. The produce also appears to be ethically sourced. It’s also worth noting that it has a Scores on the Doors hygiene rating of five out of five. There is a great range of vegetarian options on offer and plenty of meat options. They also offer dairy free cake suitable for vegans or the lactose intolerant, including a chocolate cake that has earl grey ganache in it. Though I haven’t personally tried it, friends do rave about the quality of the coffee on offer and they have soy milk. You automatically get a jug of water on arrival with what appears to be a spring of mint in it. I can't say the mint makes it taste any better, so I assume it's for cosmetic reasons.I love the mushrooms on toast with goat’s cheese. It’s a really big portion and perfect for brunch. It’s very filling, the goat’s cheese is fantastic and it doesn’t feel too pricey either at £6.50. My partner had roast eggs with bacon, toast and a lovely yoghurty dip, but worth noting that the dish takes 15-20 minutes to make so the person with you will also be waiting a while for their food as a result unless you opt to eat separately. The dishes the serve on are really retro and remind me of my grandmothers old homewares, which is cute. The staff are really helpful and went to the trouble of making me a mojito in the afternoon when they usually only serve these at night. A great hair of the dog!

Went for the dinner last night after being enticed by the menu on their Facebook page. I had lunch here before which was excellent so decided to give the evening meal a go.The dishes are designed to share so we picked 5 plates between two of us. We had the chicken wings, chorizo stew, mackerel bubble, sweet potato wedges and dip plate. everything was completely faultless but my favourite were the chargrilled aubergines on the dip plate - really smokey and melt in your mouth - and the mackerel fishcake thing which was deliciously smokey and went brilliantly with the dip.Our waitress was very friendly and helpful and served us some fantastic american style sours cocktails which certainly fixed our hangovers ;-)The chef also said we were welcome to ask her if we had any question about the menu and ingredients and was very approachable.Towards the end of the meal a large group came in and so I can see how things might start to get a bit hectic for the staff, so I'd recommend getting in a bit earlier if you want to get their full attention. Will definitely come back again to try the sticky ribs!!

Kooky place, small and arty with a small open kitchen behind the counter in what looks like organised chaos. In truth more chaos, the cafe is far to small to sit and enjoy anything here as just one table inside and a small stool area. Coffee although great was expensive and the menu although home made in appearance was again toppy in price and I'd felt I had to eat fast as others were waiting to sit down. The staff were the big let down, This seems the only cafe in an area of run down shops so no competition and standards in service need addressing, they seem unaware of the chaos of the place and service very slow, although my order was just a piece of crustless quiche which was on the counter and a big spoonful of cous couse salad. it took 15 mins to get to me and 14 and a half minutes just sat on the counter ready to be plated up!

Fantastic food and the best coffee around. The place is very small but it is well worth a visit. Food is made fresh on site. Refreshing to find somewhere great and a little different.

La carta es poco variada. Y la relación calidad precio deja que desear. 4 hamburguesas pequeñas, de carne de ternera, servidas sin gracia ninguna, con pan reseco y 3 cervezas más 1 agua (del grifo) nos costó 76 libras.

Good pot of tea. Great coffee (of various varities) or hot chocolate when the weather demands it. Breakfast tea when needed. Really good cakes (mostly made locally/on the premises). An excellent range of savoury short orders. Cheerful and very friendly service/staff. All recommended. Reasonably quiet. Weekday closure always by 5.00pm. Kitchen closes at 4.00pm.

A little gem in Ladywell. Splendid rear garden which was just great in the sun - with a good amount of shade. And the coffee was really, really good.

Seems like a lovely community place for the neighbourhood and good atmosphere, however the service was the worst I've experienced anywhere in London so far. I tried to get an order in with an egg roll and one cappuccino with oat milk. Pretty basic you'd think. The guy at the till was either distracted or forgetful, but had to repeat it like three times to finally get it in. Straight after saying 'cappuccino with oat milk', proceeds to make a cappuccino with normal milk and hands it over. Eventually I get the correct drink in. After that, I end up waiting 40 minutes for the food, which is nowhere in sight. I go to ask inside, and all the staff members look at me equally blanked, with the kitchen lady saying she's never got that order from the guy at the till. Marvellous. At this point I've given up. Eventually, I got my food and the only plus to the whole experience was that they offered cake as a 'sorry'. However, really disappointing in overall.
