Our menu was a fixed price for three exceptional courses. We started with two fabulous starters presented beautifully, a cream soup with tortellini and a warm potato salad. Our entrees were red deer with sauce and a vegetarian mushroom pastry with local vegetables and lovely sauce. We had two different puddings with scrumptious ice cream to finish the meal. The service was very good and the courses arrived at an enjoyable pace. The experience was most enjoyable.

We were booked into the hotel for two nights and I had informed the hotel that I had a dairy allergy well in advance. I began to get a feeling that this would not be a good experience when we arrived. After a four hour drive we asked for coffee and perhaps a scone to be served on the lawn as it was a beautiful day. We were told that we had tea and coffee facilities in the room. Oh dear, first impressions and all that. However, optimistically down for dinner and a look at the menu had me struggling with any of the choices. A brief conversation with the waitress confirmed my initial fears, this was not going to be a chef interested in catering for the individual needs. Eventually a partial compromise was reached and we headed into the dining room. Another waitress offered fresh cooked bread which smelled wonderful, it was served with butter. I asked for margarine but was told that none was available. I then realised that this waitress was unaware of my pre informed allergy but only after I had eaten the bread (I am sure that you can guess where this is going). Before the starter arrived I could feel the reaction starting. I have to hand it to them, this beat the previous British, Commonwealth and all comers record for poisoning me, most restaurants wait until dessert before slipping something in. As an aside, my Wife asked for port with her cheese course, she was told that there was no port but she could have a dessert wine. Just a reminder that this is a restaurant in a five star hotel. Breakfast, another masterclass in failure to prepare. No plant based yoghurt, margarine or milk alternatives. I should have learned my lesson from the first night and gone to the spar shop for some dried out sandwiches. This should have been the night when they made an effort. Not so, there was a worst choice and no attempt had been made to set aside some dishes and make them dairy free. This restaurant is not the only place I have been to where they appear clueless about a dairy allergy but I think it’s the attitude of this one that really annoys me. Despite prior warning (at least three weeks) no attempt was made or cater for my requirements. There’s a menu, but the only nod to allergens is a note on the menu saying that the food contains allergens. If you have something serious like ceoliac (or celiac) disease I would definitely avoid this place. In fact, I would avoid this place if you have any food allergies. On a positive note and in the interest of fairness my Wife advised me that her food was pretty good. I spoke to the owner at checkout, she alluded to chef not being flexible but that was all. I really should have asked for a discount because I never got the full dinner service. However, I did the very British thing and paid my bill in full without causing a fuss. But I will vote with my feet, never again.

The restaurant was pleasant and welcoming. The napkins were tightly rolled, but when opened a large black hair appeared. The cutlery was incorrectly laid and the menu had spelling mistakes. When questioned, the waitress had little knowledge of the dishes on the menu. After a wait of an hour the starter appeared. This was followed by another wait of an hour for the main courses. The dessert then took another hour. Although the food was good (except the chive flower) and obviously cooked to order 3 hours to get 3 courses is far too long. So we cut our losses and left without coffee as it would probably taken far too long.

We were lucky enough to visit the orangery restaurant tonight at the stunning Old Manse of Blair hotel for a birthday treat and the food was simply beautiful! Every course on the dinner menu was exceptionally presented and tasted delicious. In our party we had two children (both 12 years) who selected food from the older children’s menu and both were very happy with their selections. The children even got to try the granita and the voloute from the adult menu which was a lovely touch. The staffing team were very friendly and attentive and we were lucky enough to meet the chef which added to our experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend a trip here. Thank you for making our evening a one to remember!

We booked a table at the restaurant for my birthday, hoping to enjoy some excellent Scottish high quality food but alas that wasn't to be the case. The wait between courses was unacceptable long ( in excess of 30 mins). The food looked good but was very bland. It was not worth the price we paid. We ate higher quality food in pubs in the area than we did at the Orangery. I did talk to the waitress regarding our disappointment.

Having booked and paid our £20/head deposit three weeks beforehand, our party of five turned up only to be advised that the chef hadn't; neither had the email that was, supposedly, sent to us during the afternoon to cancel our dinner. The manager apologised suggested a couple of alternative restaurant options we might try and asked if we'd like our deposit returned in cash. In the event, my wife's birthday celebration was rescued by a very positive response from The Loft Restaurant at Blair Atholl who offered to re-set a table for us if we were happy to wait a few minutes. For a "top end" restaurant to fail to have a contingency plan for one sick chef (backup chef or cut down menu), fail to check a cancellation message was sent and fail to make a provisional booking elsewhere reflects very badly on its attitude to the customer.

The restaurant is fine, with some flashes of very good cooking, but the service is inconsistent. Some staff are excellent, others not very accommodating and a bit rude. The wine list is well judged. It’s fine for where it is but would not do well in a larger city. The hotel is a lovely building but some of the design is a bit in-your-face and may not be to everyone’s taste, especially in the outbuildings, although they have tried hard. Three and a half but certainly a good option if you need to stay or eat in the vicinity. Nice grounds.

We had dinner at the Orangery last night and it was a very nice experience. From walking though the door we were greeted by one of the staff and shown to our table which was nice and spacious. There were plenty of hand sanitiser and tables were well spaced to observe social distancing. All staff were wearing masks. We started with a complimentary amuse bouche of lentil soup with home made brioche and butter. To start we ordered the langostines with leaves which were cooked perfectly. Our friends had the ham hock terrine served with oatcakes, equally as delicious. We then moved on to the main course, venison (served pink) with green beans and roast potatoes again all perfectly cooked and nicely presented. Our friends opted for pork belly with black pudding, mash and broccoli, which again look lovely and they said was tasty. For dessert we opted for the banana and white chocolate cheesecake with toffee sauce, the chocolate marquise with white chocolate sauce and Chantilly cream and the roast nectarine panna cotta with Perthshire berries. All the dessert looked lovely and were perfectly sized and not too heavy or sweet. To accompany the meal we had a nice bottle of Rioja and a beer. The total bill for four was £249. We all felt the whole experience was very special and relaxed and well worth the cost. Booking advised.

We were lucky enough to have dinner here on Tuesday 25th August. The food is exceptional, all ingredients locally sourced. I had the langoustines to start and they were some of the best I’ve had. My partner had the lamb for main and said it was absolutely delicious. The orangery itself is beautiful, cozy but modern with Scottish touches. The staff were fantastic, even with the COVID-19 protocol they managed to make you feel so welcome, remain personable and on it when it came to service. Couldn’t recommend enough, one of the best restaurants in the area!

I chose this place tonight Tues 25th August to celebrate my partner’s birthday because of its promising 22 reviews ranking it 5/5 on TripAdvisor and the attractive photos that made the food look special. Sadly, we walked away feeling like we had been robbed. When this hotel restaurant averages out with a few hundred reviews, it will no doubt show its true colours and be a much lower 3/5 on TripAdvisor - it seems like the hotel have got lucky on their first few reviews, or perhaps even generated the ratings themselves based on our experience. The restaurant itself is a pleasant setting, although there is little ambiance (the music jumps bizarrely between Ben Howard and loud Scottish folk, the lighting is too high and as a couple we were placed on a huge table for 5 ludicrously far apart). Service was slow and scatty although the waiter was a friendly, sweet guy so we cut him slack. Food was very, very average and I apologised to my partner for it being so poor given our expectations. Lukewarm and fairly uninventive. Notably nothing like the food photos the hotel has listed online which make it look like fine dining - we know this because had the same dishes as some of the photos and the quality and presentation gap between food shots and real life was vast! I could put up with all of this is the bill for two hadn’t come at a whopping £137 - even with the Eat Out to Help Out discount taken off, this stung. To be honest, we were stunned by the bill - and would have asked to have a chunk of it taken off had we not felt bad for the young chap serving us. We hope the hotel takes note that they won’t be able to charge these kind of prices for the quality they are delivering in the future. My opinion is the hotel should offer us a refund or significant for the meal - until this experience, we were considering it as a wedding venue option and had decided we might stay as guests soon. What a shame :(

We ate here while staying at the hotel and it was amazing. The food and service were superb. Couldn't fault anything in fact I believe this is the best meal we have had and we have ate in some lovely restaurants. I had the Duck Egg which was slow poached and so good, then the Venison and the cheese board. Marion had the salmon then the Halibut and finally the rhubarb crumble. I am not a great desert fan and have never liked rhubarb crumble but this was totally different and amazing, I was so disappointed I didn't get it. Great atmosphere, amazing service and outstanding food.

First visit here and very impressed. We had such a warm welcome when we arrived and shown to a table. Each server who attended our table was friendly and helpful. I am all about the service and this venue has aced it. A wide selection of food. We had open sandwich (smoked salmon and there was plenty) and sirloin ciabatta both were super. Lovely atmosphere too. Will be back.
