I arrived here wet and tired. I had a lot of luggage. Biata, the manager was so kind. She stored my luggage for me till I could get into my hotel, and she also printed off all my flight info! So unbelievably kind! The other staff were so lovely too. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was lovely with beautiful art all around. I highly recommend a visit!

With the town of North Berwick having a plethora of Cafes and other similar types of eating places, the Orangery is certainly to be highly recommended. Within the Westgate Gallery it is bright and cheerful with a very good menu produced and served by a very welcoming staff. Not far from the West Beach on the main road out of the town, it is easily accessible nevertheless. All varieties on offer look excellent, with a typical example being pate, chutney, salad and traditional Scottish oatcakes! Well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.

A huge thank you to the staff at the Westgate Cafe, especially the owner and the manager, for helping us to celebrate our engagement on the 1st July! We popped in to the cafe for a bite to eat after getting engaged in North Berwick, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel special. They even gave us our first engagement card and gift which was incredibly thoughtful and generous. The food was also very tasty! Thank you for making the most special day even more amazing! We’ll not forget your kindness. Lia and David

We're always on the look out for cafes providing a good lunch - and this is one of them, located in an art gallery at the quieter western end of the town. A warm welcome was a good start as tables were moved to accommodate us. We chose the chicken and vegetable soup, served in a decent sized bowl with plenty chicken and non-pureed vegetables (I like to see my veg!). That was followed by brie-cranberry and cheese-haggis paninis - not greasy, done to perfection. We couldn't resist a cherry scone to finish off - one of the best scones we have had this year on our travels. The cheery goodbyes ensured we left with smiles on our faces.

We visited the Orangery early on a Monday morning in January. We ordered a cheese scone, fruit scone, coffee and hot chocolate. The scones and drinks arrived, were well presented and with the exception of the hot chocolate (which I thought was a bit weak), were very nice. As I mentioned, the hot chocolate tasted week, however, this was because it wasn't properly stirred, as I found out as I approached the bottom of the mug. I look forward to returning to the Orangery in future and indeed North Berwick.

This is one of our favourite cafes in North Berwick and today it again lived up to our expectations. Definate lack of training re gluten free choices and Coeliac requirements. The menu offers a range of GF options so, having said that I am Coeliac we asked for a gluten free toastie - an option on the menu. No problem, unless you need it cooked on a separate press. Staff genuinely didn't understand why I declined. I asked what was GF; after 10 mins a cook returned to say they had leek & potato soup (not on the menu). They later offered GF oatcakes on the side. The soup was delicious but we won't be back.

For many years we have visited the shop and restaurant tucked away at the end of the shopping area of North Berwick High Street. We have always enjoyed our light lunches or cake & coffee experiences in this pretty little venue but on our visit yesterday I was disappointed with the meagre portion served. It was only a sandwich but the ham portion on it was as minimal as you could get. The sandwich was two slices of normal sliced bread with a very small portion of salad; it was nothing short of a disgrace to find one slice of ham in the middle. The mustard mayo was also scarce which left me feeling quite short changed. I don't know what has happened to make the change in what's on offer but if its a cost cutting exercise then customers will be driven elsewhere.

The Westgate Gallery and Orangery are a MUST on a visit to North Berwick. You go through the shop with its jewellery, sculpture, art works, leather goods, soaps and perfumes, greetings cards - in short if you want an unusual present this is the place to come. Then in The Orangery you are in a bright restaurant with an almost cosmopolitan feel because of the natural light, the art works on the wall and the delicious food available. The food is very tasty and prepared to order with the menu reflecting the season of the year I.e salads and quiches in summer and soups and hot dishes in colder months. This is the second time I have eaten at the orangery in a week it is a good place to go with a old aunt and enjoy a tea time treat .The home made cakes are very good and beautifully presented. The set up is a bit of a mesh mash though. It needs a clear identity which it hasn,t got . It is not really an art gallery or a gift shop but it is trying to be that and a tea room. Weird. The staff look bored and indeed they are . It was very very quiet when I was in and somehow they forgot my order which strangely enough can happen when staff aren,t concentrating. The food was over priced for what is was a very average soup and a poor panni. There were only two tables mine and another and yet when I got up to pay the waitress said to me where were you sitting ?This cafe could be buzzing all year round with the right formula. On my last visit the friendly waitress said north berwick could do with a good wine bar well this could be a great location for one.The owners are employing far too many staff and to make money they need to be here themselves . If they have lost interest let it go to someone else. Empty shops are very hard to come by in north Berwick

I cannot understand why the Buttercup Cafe is so high in TA ratings and Westgate is lower down! We visited both cafes during our recent trip to North Berwick and the Wesgate one is in a different league. Classy surroundings, sweet girls serving and lovely homemade cakes. What a lovely place!!

The gallery lends atmosphere but more could be done with the cafe area. Good range of cakes and snacks but could do more to make its offering distinctive. Looks good for a light lunch, but unfortunately was late afternoon when we visited and menu was quite restricted. Staff friendly but seemed keen to clear up quickly. We will go back as it has potential and does seem to be trying harder than some others in the town.

Lovely choice with a good selection of baking. Offered a choice of magazine as I was on my own. Quick service but not hurried!

Have visited this cafe on a number of occasions. The food is always tasty and I love browsing the lovely gifts, art and cards available. Had the most delicious smoked salmon and prawn salad yesterday and was impressed with the 'layering', which meant that all the 'goodies' were not just on top! The red wine vinaigrette was light and refreshing too. Hubby appeared to enjoy his panini as his plate was completely clear, but I was too busy tucking into my own to ask!

We go to The orangery fairly frequently for coffee and have never been disappointed. The cakes are all home-made and absolutely delicious whilst the variety of coffee is outstanding. Staff are welcoming and extremely pleasant. There is plenty to see around the gallery and a wide variety of gifts, cards and jewellery in the shop. Warning, though, don't go there of you are on a diet and weak willed!!!!

I visit regularly both to eat in the Orangery and to buy items in the gift shop/gallery. Recently I bought a necklace there. In conversation with Brenda I mentioned that I already had a necklace of the same make but not bought in Westgate Gallery. The colours in the necklace had faded in the sun the previous summer. Not only did she suggest I return it to her...REMEMBER, NOT BOUGHT THERE...but she spoke to the salesman who replaced it for me. Now, that is personal service which one just does not find nowadays.

I visited a couple of weeks ago on a cold, blustery day. Ordered soup and bread and was presented with the smallest portion I have ever been given in a restaurant / cafe! It was delicious, but was only filled a third of a small cereal bowl. I was also given a half of a thin slice of french bread. For £3.50 (I think), really, really disappointing. The setting is lovely, and whilst not the owner's fault, seems to attract lots of older ladies who sit for hours over one cup of coffee. It was rather noisy.....

When we go to North Berwick for a walk on the beach, we usually end up going here for our coffee. There are quite a few coffee shops in North Berwick nowadays but i have to say this is one of the best . The quality of the coffee and the food is always very good and is made fresh to order. There is always a nice homemade soup on the menu and their cakes are a delight. Its also quite a rekaxing place to go for coffee. When in North Berwick, this is one not to be missed.

Chose The Orangery on the strength of its Trip Advisor reviews. Easy to find, delightful surroundings between the gift shop and the gallery. It was late in the day, but the place was spotless, there was still plenty of choice in the cake department and the service friendly. Cake did appear home made to me and there was a choice of two types of lemon cake! Curd and drzzle. Nearly had them both, opted for curd and it was lovely. Mr Smith had a delicious apple and apricot cake. If my travels take me back, I would return for lunch.

Popped in here for a light lunch after a walk along the sea front. Good menu (although the cheap format of the menu is not in keeping with the rest of the cafe) and reasonably priced. Food was lovely. The gift shop is nice but expensive.

Lovely setting for cake and coffee or a light lunch. Bright and airy and nice to view the artwork on display as you sit, or have a wander round the gallery and shop while you're there. We did wait a while for a table as they were busy but after we asked them, they provided a seat for an elderly member of our party. The service, once we were seated, was pleasant and efficient.Large selection of cakes and tray bakes, scones etc for coffee time and soup, sandwiches, baked potatoes, salads with lots of different and quite interesting fillings on offer for lunch. We had sandwiches and filled baked potatoes, tasty and very substantial, so much so that we couldn't manage any cake afterwards. Shame! Prices around average I would say.

The cakes all look very impressive, but the cake mix can be tasted (so stop pretending they are all home made!). Also the staff are all very friendly - just try to avoid the guy who owns it - customer service is not his forte!!

We had a delightful lunch at East Coast Musselburgh today, choosing from their set menu. The restaurant is clean, contemporary, and tastefully decorated, which created a welcoming atmosphere. We both started with the mussels in a spicy tomato sauce that also served as a flavorful broth. The sauce had the perfect balance of heat and richness, complementing the fresh mussels. For mains, I opted for the Spaghetti Harbour, which was generously portioned and packed with clams and mussels. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the dish was hearty yet refined. My wife had the King Prawn Calamari, which was served with a light, perfectly cooked batter, accompanied by crispy skinny fries, a fresh salad, and tartare sauce. She loved the combination of flavors and textures. We washed everything down with a refreshing Leith draught beer, which rounded off our meal perfectly. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. The facilities were well-maintained, including spotless toilets, which is always a good sign. Overall, the meal was excellent value for money, and we left feeling satisfied and eager to return. I highly recommend East Coast for anyone looking for fresh seafood and a great dining experience in Musselburgh.

Went here today for a birthday meal What a total and utter disappointment the quality of the food was very poor. I would have rated it no stars but had to give at least one to continue with the review. The meal I ordered was billed as a triple steak burger, OMG it was awful, when it was served to me the burger was bone dry and very small, over cooked and totally tasteless. There was no burger sauce, (what we were offered was a bottle of ketchup and seriously watered down mayo) there was no onion or cheese only a little piece of stale lettuce and one slice of very thin tomato in the very dry bun. It was listed as being served with rustic chips but I actual found they were nothing more than a handful of frozen skinny fries from a bag. I was charged almost £17 for this which is an absolute disgrace. I've had far better any tastier burgers from McDonald's for a third of the price. My partner had what was billed as peppered chicken which was very poor, served in a skillet which was no deeper than a saucer and it was served without rice which was listed on the menu. The manager came over before it was served and gave her a spoon and we were wondering why you would need a spoon to eat the meal! Then It became apparent when it was served, hardly any chicken and a few bits of pepper and onion and was swimming in some kind of peppered sauce, hence the spoon. This was also priced around £16/17, again ridiculously over priced for what was actually offered. We checked out the menu online before booking a table but when we arrived we were given a totally different menu from what was online. Then to top it all we paid cash and after some time we had to ask for our change from the bill (over £5). When the ki Manager came over he then said "folk normally say just to keep the change " we were Shocked and utterly embarrassed by this comment. What an absolute rip off this place is and we certainly won't be back .

Excellent service. Ordered 2 chicken mystique baguettes with salad and they were ready for me to pick up. Delicious. We order this every time we meet for coffee.
