Absolutely fantastic as always. We eat out a lot and I really think this is some of the best, if not THE best, food in Sheffield. For two meat eaters, the aubergine was our stand out dish.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience. The food and drink were so so good and we were surprised by our favourite dish - it was the best aubergine I've ever had! You can tell that they use really good ingredients and know what to do with them. We will all be thinking about this meal for a long time and we cannot wait to go back!

Another visit to Orange Bird and it didn’t disappoint. Unbelievable food, excellent service and just a lovely vibe. Definitely our favourite restaurant in Sheffield now. Love it.

Really tasty hummus and beef with a gorgeous flatbread . Loved the mackerel main course. The blood orange sorbet , sharp and sweet bursting with flavour. Really enjoyed all three courses.

Welcomed warmly by one of the owners (her partner, from South Africa, is the chef, I understood) who went out of her way to chat and tell me about the selections, etc. Had such an enjoyable meal and experience that I made sure to bring my daughter with me when she came to Sheffield from Berlin a couple of weeks later. She also had a lovely time. :) I live in Montreal and hope to go back to Sheffield and the Orange Bird in the spring! (Don’t forget to ask the origin of the name…)

Fantastic restaurant. We had a lovely time there and certainly plan to go again. The staff were friendly, the food was amazing and the wine was excellent. Very glad to have such an awesome place in Hillsborough.

Love this place, the food is excellent and they accommodated our dietary requirements. Would recommend the cabbage (best cabbage I'll ever eat), the milk washed punch and the peppermint crisp tart. My vegan friend loved the bean houmous, aubergine and cabbage dishes. The chocolate sorbet was divine. I appreciated that I got the dairy accompaniments despite sharing the vegan dishes. A fantastic place.

Went on Saturday 20th to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As always, Ann is so welcoming and the food was simply amazing. Love our visits to The Orange Bird and this was no exception ❤️ See you again soon x

Delicious food in stylish and intimate surroundings

It was fantastic! I have just come back from the restaurant and can't wait to tell you all about it 😀. Orange Bird is a small restaurant near the centre of Hillsborough. Understated decor suits it very well. Seating is comfortable on the benches as well as the chairs. It can sit around 20 people with a room to spare I'd say. We were greeted by the member of staff and asked straight away if we needed a drink or had any special requests. I like that. We ordered Burrata, Mosbolletjies, and Mother-in-law flatbread as starters. Delicious beginning of the meal. I especially enjoyed the Burrata which came with beautifully caramelised butternut squash and hemp seeds as well as bitter leaves and kombucha dressing. All flavours complementing each other. Very nice. I followed with Braai Sea Bream and my partner had Brai Pork Ribeye which I tried and enjoyed. But let me tell you about that fish.... I've eaten fish in many places but that Bream was heaven on earth. I truly can't describe the level of cooking to give it justice. I'll try though... Fish is cooked whole (yes head and bones in) but it has a crispy skin and is so succulent that bones nearly separate themselves. I never before had fish that was jucier. It was full of delicious flavour and smelling of the sea like it was whipped out of it 5 minutes ago. Again hat off to the chef who cooked it to PERFECTION. Fish comes with fantastic sharp and spicy sauce that I also enjoyed. Seriously well done! The side dishes (house Curried Chips and Morogo) were very good too. For dessert there was Peppermint Tart and Miso Malva Pudding that I enjoyed very much. Throughout the meal we were asked if we needed anything.... We didn't becouse everything was flavoured very well but it shows care. All the questions we had were answered on the spot. We were made feel welcome and very comfortable. Service was unparalleled. Despite heaving tried half of things on the menu we payed less than £100! Amassing food great atmosphere and fantastic service and all that on a budget. What a great find!!! We will be coming back and we will be bringing friends. Thank you Orange Bird. You were REMARKABLE.

We had the masala flatbread, white bean hummus, sea bream, pork rib eye, aubergine, peppermint crisp and sponge puddings. All food totally delicious!

Delicious food and excellent service!

I grew up on braai and to find somewhere in Sheffield that serves the cuisine is great reminds me of my childhood. The staff were excellent and the food was super tasty. Pricing was reasonable for the two of us. We had a great date night, will definately be back soon 😊

We had a lovely evening at Orange Bird - the food was delicious and atmosphere was great. Our South African friend who came with us thought it was an authentic but fresh take on South African cuisine.

Lovely lunchtime meal. The aubergine, and chicken were particularly tasty. The malva pudding with ice cream and apricot jam was divine. Planning to be back soon.

Friendly local restaurant with attentive, helpful service, great South African themed food and wine, interesting and unusual (for the UK) spicing. All four of us enjoyed it thoroughly and look forward to going again. Highly recommended.

Amazing food, lovely place and staff

We live locally and have been regulars at OB since lockdown days and so great to see these guys going so well. Always super friendly hospitality and hearty and brilliantly flavoured food, the south African BBQ style has to be tasted to be believed. Definitely our favourite restaurant in Sheffield.

I was treated to dinner at the Orange Bird by a friend who was visiting - another gorgeous meal - the white bean hummus and carrot molasses flatbread were to die for but all the dishes were fabulous and a great atmosphere as ever.

Wonderful food and excellent service. We love the atmosphere and quality of the food. Sharing means we get to try lots of new flavours. Aubergine and malva pudding the highlight (we always leave room for the malva).

We've had an amazing dinner here a couple of weeks ago. Atmosphere was great and the food was absolutely delicious, it was the best meal out we've had in a while. We had the mosbolletjes, braai pork chop, braai hispi cabbage and caramelised aubergine and it was very hard to decide which dish was our favourite. Will definitely come back.

Just visited for the third time and have been raving to other people about how good the bistro is. The food is always first class with amazing South African flavours and the cosy venue allows for the service to be very high quality. Only open Wednesday to Saturdays though, book a table in advance!

The best place to celebrate our anniversary. Atmosphere amazing, the friendliest staff with the best service, and the food was out of this world. We had a snack (their speciality bread), side dish (the much lauded and delicious curry fries) and two mains (monkfish, and chixken with sausage) to share all together rather than starters and mains (which is fab in itself that there's the option!). We failed to take photos as it smelled and tasted so good every crumb was gone before we remembered. We don't drink so we were delighted that the soft drink options were a bit more exciting than your standard restaurant options, and the raspberry lemonade was delicious, not too sweet. Whilst we aren't vegetarian we have many friends who are, and also noted really good options for them too. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely loved the menu, relaxed and warm atmosphere, especially on a wintry Thursday night. The team were very flexible when my friend was late. Just a lovely place with lovely people.

What a fantastic dining experience in Sheffield. Delicious South African BBQ at what I would describe as premium dining done casual. Definitely worthy of one of the top restaurants in Sheffield. On-hand quick service and the atmosphere is top notch with the open-fire grill visible from the seating. The menu changes regularly but the sweetbread as a starter and the Miso Malva Pudding especially were major highlights, absolutely delicious.

What a lovely place to spend an evening with someone. Wasn’t to sure what would be like but totally surprised and we loved it. We’d already organised to come with friends again before we left. Could not fault anything at all

Orange Bird is an absolute gem of a restaurant - everything about it is delightful, from the charming decor and superb food and unusual wine list to the welcoming warmth of the lovely staff. It's amazing to find food of such quality and inspiration (the combination of being authentically grounded with a South African twist works brilliantly) in a local area of Sheffield, and so reasonably priced. Tables were full of happy customers and it's clear that this is already a much loved establishment. Talented chef-patron Matt and chef Rhea must be commended for their magical cuisine. I came all the way from South Africa to savour this experience and was not disappointed. I left feeling replete with joy!

Booked for the 5:30 sitting. Which is a new addition to service times. Kitchen not quite ready for us but enjoyed the atmosphere whilest waiting.

Another fantastic food experience at one of our favourite places. The BBQ Pork Chop and Flat Iron Steak were both delicious, cooked perfectly so they just melted in the mouth. Amazing.

Been to this great little eatery twice, the food is delicious and the service is excellent.

Fantastic food. Loved the sides and particularly the braii cabbage. Interesting menu and we really enjoyed trying some new dishes. Loved how fresh and home cooked everything was.

Unfortunately we were only visiting Sheffield for football so can't visit every week. We weren't sure what to expect as we booked online but I have to say, it's superb and would recommend it to anyone. Do yourself a favour and book it!

Always a warm welcome here. Food is always tasty and inventive, you can have the same dish twice and it will have a new twist from last time. Superb steak last night, the houmous, fries and malva pudding were great, and we tried a new wine and that was fab too. We are regulars for a good reason!

Very attentive and supportive front of house - your suggestions hit the spot without over facing us. Food cooked and presented with flavour and texture. We will be back and will spread the positive word of mouth that brought us here. Excellent that you not only allow carry out beer from next door but welcome it and the £1 corkage is reasonable esp on a two pint jug !

Great food and drink, but we felt the allotted 90 mins wasn't long enough to enjoy the experience. It all felt a bit rushed.

Literally the best food we’ve had out in the last year. Beautifully presented and full of flavours. Front of house staff were lovely. We will definitely be back.
