I love this place. Somebody wrote in previous reviews that this restaurant is a hidden gem. I cannot agree more; well it is. Huge amount of dishes, with meat or vegetarian, very kind staff, and reasonable prices make this place worth to visit. Must visit, to be honest! And do not confuse yourself - the dishes are much bigger than looks at the photos.

Had an evening to spare in Sheffield and came across this place while searching for restaurants. Not going to get Ethiopian food where we live so decided to give it a go. Reviews are well deserved - food was great, really flavourful, generous portions and very reasonably priced. Khaleb who served us was a great host, taking time to explain the dishes to us and show me the best technique for scooping up the tasty lamb stew with the injera base - no cutlery here! Well worth a visit.

Just had a delicious meal here. Food all tastes authentic and home cooked. I have a wheat allergy and that was a problem because the staff had very poor English. If you have no allergies and will eat anything, I'd highly recommend it. Traditionally, food is eaten using the pancakes without cutlery, but there's a basin to wash before and afterwards.

I’ve eaten Ethiopian food before at Mosab in Newcastle and was keen to try it again. This place came up as recommended. The area it’s in might put some off, but I can assure you there’s nothing to worry about. We got in and were welcomed by a lovely, smiley lady. The decor is very similar to most of the most authentic restaurants. Basic and traditional. We ordered the mixed meal for 3. There was 2 of us. The selection was so varied. Lots of injera bread to mop all if it up. We were stuffed after eating about half. Lamb, beef and vegetable dishes with varying spice levels. It was delicious. A huge amount of tasty food, 2 very nice beers and a bottle of sparkling water came to £43. We finished the rest today. We will certainly go back.

Great food good value. I had the Beye-Ayinetu which is a vegetarian (possibly vegan) dish .. it consists of small portions of lentil and vegetable dishes. It is served on a type of flat slightly spongy bread - you use the bread to scoop up your meal. It would work well sharing. If you eat meat or fish they have those options. I had it with a beer. I was very full by the end. Great value meal. Its not in a particularly nice part of Sheffield, the building is slightly post apocalyptic everything around it had been demolished. Seemed it was popular with the local Ethiopian and Eritrean community. My food was served in a touristy basket thing ... theirs was not. More of a cafe than a restaurant but all the better for it.

Visited here with my mum and sister. Not clear what to do when you arrive and service a bit slow but we didn’t mind too much. Server however was lovely. We ordered the Veg Sampler between us. It was huge, and myself and my sister can eat A LOT of food but between the 3 of us we couldn’t finish it. They were happy to provide us with a doggy bag though for the leftovers. Food was lovely and at just under £11 a head to be stuffed is fantastic! Will be returning again. To correct a different review, we visited 20/01/24 the place has not closed. The large fencing around the area I believe is to do with Market Tavern next door being demolished.

Best Ethiopian/Eritrean food I've ever eaten, and I've had my fair share. There's a good representation of this cuisine in Sheffield, but this restaurant stands eminently above the competition. Don't expect much ambience, however the service is very friendly.

I came here with my Dad a couple of months back and i have to say it was great, As an Ethiopian I have to say this place had not only given us amazing food but had amazing cultural deco and Ethiopian Music playing in the background. Even though when we were one of the few people there at the time we went, more people usually come in the place in the afternoon and evening. Although the restaurant is not in the best location i do think its a great place to eat Ethiopian food.

We heard about this place from a cycling friend, and being in Sheffield decided to find it and try it out. Firstly, it sounds like it's difficult to get to., but i's really close to the city centre by foot. Next food: we took the owner/ manager's recommendation (which happened also to be the cheapest thing on the menu) and it was fab. A huge Ethiopian pancake, like a plate, covered with about 7 different dishes, all complementing and delicately spiced. Really friendly owner / manager (without being too pushy) , and we waddled out happily fatter later and only £18 (for two) poorer. Recommend

Amazing value! The Beye-ayinetu was a feast of different vegetable dishes presented on a large sourdough pancake (injera) with more injera on the side. At £9 this was phenomenal value - probably enough for two hungry vegetarians/vegans! Really friendly and welcoming.

Fantastic food at a great price. Speed of service can be a bit hit and miss, I've both waited ages and ages for food to arrive and been served in what's felt like minutes, but the hospitality is always warm. Would particularly recommend the veggie sampler but there's an extensive menu of both meat and veggie dishes so no shortage of options.

Despite what you may think based on its appearance from the road, the food was outstanding in a very relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. I had the lamb Key (awaze) tibs with an injera which was extremely flavorful. I also had an imported eretrian beer on the side. There were also sharing plates if you wanted to try multiple dishes between 3 or more people.

If you’re in Sheffield city centre and fancy something different for lunch/tea we’d highly recommend the Ethiopian/Eritrean by the old markets. We popped across from the quayside market and so glad we did. This was the veggie taster plate. We’d have ordered one between us if we’d realised how big it was going be. Every dish freshly cooked and uniquely flavoured. Great value for memes too and leftovers to take home as big as the meal we ate. Well worth a visit we’ll definitely be back.

Dropped by on my way from Grimsby to Manchester, went looking on the off chance since a lot of places I wanted to try seemed to be closed. Am so glad I did now! It's a little bit out of the way and amongst a lot of closed down places but if you don't overlook it you'll be glad you didn't. Staff are friendly without being overbearing, and very welcoming. I asked for a reccomendation since I've never had etheopian food before, and he suggested a vegetarian dish, which I was more than happy to try. When it came out I was amazed at just how big it was. There was loads. All various things placed on a soft pancake like thing? I'm not sure what it's called but it was delicious. No cutlery served and I didn't ask for any, its the sort of food you eat with your fingers (plenty of napkins provided thankfully!), was also given a jug of water, and some sweet pancake like things for desert which I couldn't quite manage, didn't even manage to eat all of the main. So I took the rest with me on my travels. I was expecting a price of around £15? Nowhere near. For £9 I was given a meal that would easily be served as a main dinner, and it was absolutely delicious. Good flavours, fantastic combinations, I suspect it's usually the sort of thing you'd go with friends to, and all share and enjoy various types together. They do actually do a family meal for around £30 I think he said. Well worth the money and the time, absolutely check this place out, you'll be glad you did!

I've been wanting to visit one of Sheffield's Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurants for a long time, and today was finally the day. I can't stop smiling. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant and genuinely felt like I could order anything from the menu and enjoy it, but here I I did feel that way. It was a really tough decision to narrow it down, but I ordered the Key Tibs and it was absolutely outstanding. This place is definitely no frills, but in a clean and cosy way. I felt so relaxed here, not under any pressure, so I could just sit and enjoy a meal with friends. I would 100% recommend this place to anybody. The best restaurant I've been to in years. The experience of having something a little different deserves a top rating, the hostess was fantastic, too. Going is highly recommended as the food was delicious, get a variety of stuff to share or a taster dish to get a good sense of variety in flavour. However everything made me feel my pallette usually expects quite dull food. By comparison every dish was bursting with flavour, too many to really do justice in an explanation. Just go and try. Probably would benefit with being served either with the injura on the side, or extra items to scoop up with. As the injura became really rather sloppy in the centre with most the meal served on it. Quite possibly more about my palette usually expecting less flavor, more texture, so didn't detract from the enjoyment too much.

This place was a revelation! I'd never had African food before (living in Preston our food choices are fairly limited...) and we were a bit confused at first, but the waiter was really helpful, and everything soon made sense. One word of warning: my wife is allergic to wheat, and they were totally confused by this, but MOST of the food is fine... it's just that it all comes served on a a big pancake thing (not sure what it's called!) And as long as you accept you can't have this you're probably fine! Just ask for it without the bread-pancake thing and all will be well...

One could easily walk past this place, don't. It's not in the main part of the city, surrounded with building works, look through the window and see plastic tablecloths, no cutlery ... ... then one must set aside our cultural expectations. This is very typically Ethiopian / Eritrean. Clean and simple. There are a couple of pictures on the wall that aren't straight, and a beep from the low battery in the smoke detector. But that is all completely irrelevant. The food is quality and authentic and very much a delightful surprise. Taster plate was truly superb.

I wanted time to reflect on our dining experience before sending this review. It was a party of six for a birthday celebration arriving at 6.30pm to a welcoming host. The restaurant has a large TV, clean, decorated beautifully and has a homely feel. The restaurant had no other customers and very cold which we told the host but nothing was offered so we kept our coats on. I love Ethiopian food but it was new to the rest of the party so the host suggested a platter of all the dishes served at the restaurant and assured us that there would be plenty. Sadly, when the food arrived it was cold or luke warm together with the plates and injera. Also, the amount was insufficient for 6 adults although he did reheat dishes. It’s was clear that the host was the only person there and the food was not freshly prepared and cooked but reheated in a microwave. Disappointingly, the host would not acknowledge the concerns voiced therefore sadly we will not be returning but hopefully this will help with improving customer service.
