The Old White Horse Inn in Powys

Stopped off here yesterday after our walk to the waterfalls and what a lovely little pub, The food was outstanding every dish we had was freshly cooked and could tell it was homemade. Very homely feeling and the staff were lovely and friendly Will definitely be back to try more dishes on the menu.

Absolutely amazing food after a great day gorge walking with ancient boar adventures! Who was the ones which recommended this hidden gem. Was quick to be seated and greeted with drinks followed shortly after. Food was fantastic we all left happy and full ready for our journey home ! It’s a lovely charming pub hidden on a little side street definitely worth a visit

Avoid for vegetarian meals! There is no clear vegetarian Sunday roast option so I had a ratatouille. It came with one boiled potato, a single piece of parsnip and a Yorkshire pudding with stuffing powder in it. The ratatouille itself was not nice at all. My friend had mushroom stroganoff which was a bit nicer but came with the same disappointing sides. The staff were nice and the pub was busy with families having roasts - I am guessing their meat option is nicer!

Enjoyed this local Welsh pub. The staff were nice and welcoming. Couldn't complain about that. Probably didn't enjoy when they cleaned the tables next to us that the cleaning spray ricocheted off the table and went right into our food. The food was okay. Mexican night. Wasn't exactly authentic. Mariachi band was good.

Dropped in on the off chance on a Friday night. Managed too squeeze us in, and glad they did. Food was excellent and service was very good. Went back the following night and nothing had changed regards service or food quality. Will definitely be going back here when next in Brecon.

Me and my partner travelled 3 hours to do the four waterfalls walk, we stopped in this lovely place after for food. Food was amazing, was very clean and felt so welcome. Sarah was absolutely amazing would check to see if we needed another drink and just an overall nice person. We will definitely be back again. Steak was beautiful. Thank you guys Jay and Courtney

Really lovely pub with friendly, cheerful staff and a cosy interior. The food was great, and there was always a space here as it's hidden from the main street. Recommend the koftas especially. Dog friendly with a dog menu to boot, which impressed our pup! If you're in the area, do drop in.

Popped in for a Guinness after a walk to the waterfalls and loved the atmosphere. Menu looked amazing so came back for my birthday meal. We both had the lamb shank and I'm gutted I didn't take a pic of the food as it was stunning. Couldn't resist the dessert menu, we normally skip dessert but as it was my birthday we spoilt ourselves. As with the main meal it was stunning. Staff are amazing and friendly and as our visit was in January the fire was going so made it a lovely cosy atmosphere. Loved looking at all the ornaments and pictures around the pub. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. Guinness was gorgeous too

Lovely pub with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Went as a family of 8, 7 adults and 1 child. All arrived in time for our 7:30pm New Year’s Eve booking. There was a bit of a slow start (waited around 15-20 minutes after being seated for our drinks order to be taken) but after taking our drinks order all went smoothly. There was an issue with one of the starters where 3 of the party had ordered the same starter but the portion size was less on one of them (easy mistake to make given the Restaraunt was jam packed and extremely busy). Once staff were informed of this, the matter was quickly rectified. Meals, both starters and mains were to die for. Portion sizes were plentiful and arrived at the table piping hot. Staff, when asked for extra portions attended our needs immediately they were informed. Although some of the normal pub grub foods such as the curry and lasagne were a bit on the expensive side, we will definately be returning, as we all agreed this was the nicest meal we had received in a long time and as such don’t mind paying. One thing I will say though is we had paid a pre booking fee to secure our booking but when the bill arrived this had not been deducted from the total sum, so make sure you check the bill before paying. A huge thank you to all the staff and the chef who helped make our night out a good one.

Really dog friendly and generous portions

First visit and wont be the last. Took my daughter and grandaughter for a farewell dinner before they returned to England. The Staff were really welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious, my daughter and I had the Sea Bass, it was massive and we had the home cooked chips which were a real treat as usually its frozen chips My grand daughter had beer battered fish and chips, which she really enjoyed. Desserts were massive - we could not finish them unfortunately. The meals are not cheap but they were well cooked and we had no complaints whatsoever.

Cozy village pub with excellent (and huge) meals and lovely service. They have a dog menu & brought our pup water too. We'll definitely be coming back.

Cold food, one dish frozen in the middle. Staff chatting all the time. Where is the Manager to address these matters? Spoiled Xmas party. Very expensive too! A place to avoid.

What idiots are giving this place five star reviews? Myself and a group of girls went here recently. The starters and main meals were freezing cold! One of my fiends vegetarian dish was frozen in the middle. She demanded her money back! Very expensive for rubbish meals. The waiting staff were chatting all the time amongst themselves and someone stated the cook had all doors and windows open in the kitchen! No wonder the meals are cold! Where is the Proprietor not to eradicate this? If you are thinking or booking here for Xmas parties, forget it, unless you want expensive drinks, cold sub-standard meals, and a cook/staff who are hot, unlike the meals and chatterboxes typical of this area I’m afraid. Perhaps Mickey Mouse is wearing White Horse badges nowadays.

We visited here, when doing the four waterfalls trail, firstly there are way more than 4 waterfalls. This pub is just perfect after walking for hours, on arrival, the two ladies there were very welcoming. They showed us to a table, took our drinks order and quickly handed them over. We ordered some food from here, it was amazing. If you are visiting the four falls trail, then you don't want to miss this place, you wont be disappointed. Great cosy place, roaring fire, great service, great selection of drinks and totally amazing food. perfect.

A lovely place and very welcoming. We were large group (8) so asked to pre-order and pay a deposit. We’d assumed that would mean that food would arrive quickly, but it was actually quite slow and they reconfirmed the order when we arrived. That aside, staff were really friendly and the place had a good overall feel to it. 👍

I really wanted to love this place . The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The adults mains were good . However when it came to the kids meals which were expensive for portion size I thought , we were disappointed. We wanted to fill the kids up before going out for the day but my daughter ordered pizza chips and peas and my other daughter chicken nuggets with the same sides. The pizza arrived but half a small pizza but the issue was for some reason red peppercorns had been added over her sides so all she could eat was half a teaplate size pizza. My 4 year olds meal was a few nuggets with the same peppercorns on hers. Obviously I raised the issue but was not offered any fresh food for them or a discount on the bill. An hour later we had to stop in the local McDonald's as they were starving which was not the type of meal I wanted for them. So adult food great but kids and resolution of problems was such a let down.

I love this place. I've been a few times, and they're always super accommodating, the fireplace is always going, and the food is always excellent. To my surprise this last time I visited they're prices seemed cheaper than before and the food had improved again! How is that even possible. So much to be said for a roast that I didn't even stop to take a picture for. The beef was outstanding. Smash a roast. Then go and walk a few KM in waterfall country. Highly recommended.

Popped in unplanned last sunny weekend and our 10-people group were served quickly and efficiently with friendly and accommodating staff. The food was awesome! Chicken Caesar was very generous with lots of meat 👏🏽. Highly recommended.

Lovely place, food and staff were very friendly and helpful

Went with my partner and food was good, but no warning about the plate being boiling hot and my partner was left with scolded fingers. The manager did apologise quite awhile after but that was about it! The burn was quite painful but it was dealt with no sense of concern. Really disappointing!

First time to ever write a review but felt it was needed. Staff were VERY friendly and welcoming to ourselves and our 4 dogs. They could not do enough to make us all feel welcome. Chose to have two starters for my main - halloumi fries and minted lamb kofta which were very well presented and delicious. A special mention to one young girl who I think was called Shanice (apologies if I am wrong). I will 100% be returning very soon!!

The standout dish for us was the Lambshank—it was absolutely incredible. I'm not usually a big fan of lamb, but this dish truly won me over. It seems there's something special about enjoying lamb while in Wales! Overall, the Old White Horse Inn offers a wonderful dining experience with great atmosphere, friendly service, and fantastic food. We can't wait to return!

Booked here for 9 of us on Sunday July 21st for my mother’s birthday, and all I can say is wow! The staff were very welcoming and attentive, had a great selection of beers/lagers, and the food was simply amazing! Great quality meats and the gravy was to die for! Had the Terry’s chocolate orange cheesecake for dessert afterwards, perfect way to finish a lovely meal. Highly recommend, will definitely be back soon!

Staff are friendly and welcoming. It's a lovely pub restaurant with a nice atmosphere. We've been before and enjoyed our meals here previously during the week, but today we went for Sunday dinner and it was absolutely awful! Seven of us ordered a Sunday roast, none of us enjoyed it and ended up leaving it. The roast potatoes were raw and still hard, the stuffing was mainly hard onions, the meat was like rubber and you couldn't cut it. The veg and gravey, all just totally bland unfortunately. It was extremely disappointing as we had taken our father there for his birthday. We certainly won't be returning for a Sunday lunch again.

On the off chance found a hidden gem. Had a lovely Sunday Roast and Puddings Staff are kind and attentive, the food was good value for money with a generous portion. Would highly recommend Parking on the road outside. Dog Friendly 🐕

Came here for a late lunch after hiking the elidir trail and it was wonderful. A very warm welcome with a great menu. The atmosphere is very good. We had a main course each, majoring on the lamb shank which was excellent and the vegetables very well cooked also. Excellent service. Fully recommend

Would definitely not recommend, attended Saturday night with a friend food was cold and not very nice however ended up with food poisoning have been really ill for 3 days now. Do not recommend

Nice pub to stop for a drink but sadly the food is overpriced and not up to standards. Pie was a bowl filled with chucks of meat with pastry placed on top, with the meat being very tough and no side gravy. Also ordered vegetable side that was just a bowl of soggy vegetables.

Just had Sunday lunch here today was absolutely amazing full of yummyness we did phone ahead to book a table as it does get busy with private functions but was lovely tbh friendly staff yummy food plenty of it parking too definitely will be back again.

My husband and I were so impressed with the Old White Horse Inn. On Father’s Day they fit us without booking beforehand and despite being extremely busy. We had drinks and menus in front of us within 5 minutes, and the food was just as quick after placing the order. The food was delicious, staff couldn’t have done more, and we left very happy!

The service was very nice and helpful, the food was good. The place is atmospheric, although the prices are a bit high for such a menu. There was no paper or crayons for children, which can be found in most restaurants.

This is mine and my parents' favourite place - the food is good, the atmosphere is second to none with the log fire and ambience, and the staff are amazing. Special shoutout to Richard who is so kind and attentive, patient and friendly, he really makes the experience. When we went for my mum's birthday he made a real fuss of her with a free dessert and a bottle of wine. Even just popping in for a mid-week meal is treated like a special occasion.

Steak poorly cooked, wanted it well done, only cooked medium at best. Muliple garlic cloves in salad and olives. Everything overpowered by garlic. Had a side salad, covered in mustard dressing. Okay if you like mustard but not if you don't! Disappointed with food but service/atmosphere second to none!

A late lunch after a big walk with the dogs. So friendly and welcoming ( especially to the dogs ) they even have a menu for the doggies ! Food was lovely .Open all day .

We didn't eat, but popped in after our hike from Henrhyd falls. The staff were friendly and welcoming with a choice of larger, the restrooms needed updating, but well stocked. Will definitely visit again.

Both times pub very busy but staff & service was excellent. special mention to Richard front of house for his superb customer service & hospitality. would highly recommend & book again if in the area. This place is a star find. We been 3 times now and they Don't disappoint each time. The staff are friendly, helpful and take time to speak with you. The food is lush, tasty and very good for value. They do a really good pint too. On one visit with my brother-in-law who is blind the young lad behind the bar quickly noticed his white stick and promptly took items/objects out of his way, described where he was and where the bar was. He totally attentive, aware of his needs and acted accordingly. What a star. Shall be recommending The Old White Horse to all who will listen to my noise. 🤭 Well done guys, please don't change. 👌🏼👍🏼

We went on Easter Sunday at noon, we ate the Sunday roast lamb, and mushroom stroganoff, excellent flavor, presentation and abundant portions. Matching prices. The attention of the staff was very friendly.
