This rustic decor village pub also delivers a foodie heaven. I had the pork belly, the meat was tender and the sauce 10/10. Another in our party had Cajun salmon that was well cooked if rather uncajuney, but that was ok. We were all rather full by then so shared a tiramisu, it was rich and delightful and definitely home made.

A dog and people friendly village pub in Kilham, East Riding, Yorkshire that serves excellent food with great selection of Wines, Beers and Sprits. A tiny little bar but spacious areas for sitting inside or out in their twin beer garden areas. A great food menu using locally produced fresh ingredients, that is served from 12.00 through to 21.00, Mon-Sat which is fairly rare now a days. They even have their own Pizza oven, which looks like a miniature house. We both fancied their Ribeye Steak, which came with their own made peppercorn sauce, salad, mushroom, tomatoes and their lovely chips. The steaks were cooked to perfection, medium and their own made peppercorn sauce is to die for. We are planning to return to the fantastic watering hole gain very soon.

Staying locally and with a combination of host's local knowledge and TripAdvisor we settled on this delightful old style village pub. Typical Yorkshire welcome from the friendly and massively overworked bar lady/server. Having said that, we have to say she handled with some skill whilst trying to satisfy all. I had the creamy mushrooms as I don't do meat whilst my lady had chilli prawns. This was followed by fish pie for me and fall apart lamb shank for her. For afters it was Biscoff cheesecake and syrup pudding. Absolutely zero complaints about the tasty food served in a timely manner. Some Guinness and local bitter were also consumed again with no complaints. Only here for a week but hoping to revisit if not too busy.

We have 2 large Irish Setters, so need some space ! Arrived, was in a lovely snug, fire was on ( these old buildings get cool ..) and the baby dog got settled in front of the fire 🔥 Food was great, as was my lovely Sauvignon blanc, and the hubby's Hawkstone Cider ala Jeremy Clarkstone ( thanks Jez). Stopped on way to Bridlington. The pub is a lovely old style English pub, with cozy small rooms and real fires. We had pre booked a table, which was ready on arrival. The full menue is extensive, but some produce may not be available at certain times. I selected the chicken and my wife had the steak pie, both of which were superb including the presentation and service. Good find and will re visit soon.

First visit from outstanding reviews and will definitely return. Greeted by friendly staff and a lovely open fire to combat the chilly rain outside. Table for 2 right in front of it! Settled to a creamy pint of Theakston's and peppery glass of shiraz. Lovely while awaiting our roast dinners. Beef for me. Pleasantly surprised to be asked how I would like. Rare please......and indeed it was. 2 thick slices, Yorkshire pud, velvety mash, roast potatoes and parsnips, broccoli, mange touts and finally, carrots. My wife had beautifully tender roast lamb with the same trimmings. Oh, and horseradish for me; mint sauce for her. Nice touch of stainless steel gravy boat in addition to that already on our plates. At £14.95, a real steal for this quality ( and quantity). To round off, we shared a jam sponge pudding with custard. None of this cream, ice cream or creme anglaise rubbish on a traditional British pud......and it was delicious; piping hot too. Sooooo good.......and only £3! The Old Star is a very traditional country village pub. Lovely atmosphere; the place was rammed. Service 1st class. Photos of the food were taken but can't do justice to the real thing!

We visited the Old Star after Instagram suggested it as somewhere I should follow. Lovely old world feel to the pub, attentive staff. I opted for belly pork cooked with ginger, very succulent, and served with crackling. My friend had the steak pie, plate swimming in homemade gravy. They were accompanied by a side of veg - carrots, French beans, and cauliflower - there was ample. I finished off with a treacle sponge and custard. Good honest, well prepared food. We found the locals in the pub to be very welcoming and friendly.

The ambiance of the pub was good and the food, home made roast turkey dinner, very good. My only issue was that I do NOT agree with letting dogs into a pub were food is being served. There must have been at least 4 or 5 dogs and it put me off, barking and the smell of dog. The seating we were given had a dog smell! I do not understand why dog owners can't leave there pets at home just for 2 hours whilst people are eating. I would still go back to the Star Inn but pick a day during the week that hopefully is dog free.

My husband and I enjoyed a very nice meal at The Old Star to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The evening started out really well, and he enjoyed the pork belly bites starter off the specials board, which he says was very nice. As we were waiting for our mains to come out a very rowdy group of men were sat at the table next to us, and my husband, who is autistic, struggled with them. I spoke to a member of staff, and she very kindly helped to move us to a quieter table in the bar area. We were able to continue enjoying the rest of our evening, and the food was delicious. We had the fish pie and ribeye steak, and for pudding we had the crunchie cheesecake.

We had an amazing meal in this traditional English country pub. The service is super friendly and helpful. The food was superb, really tasty and well presented. The vegetarian menu is amazing and my meal was ‘different’ to what you get done in many places. It was really well thought out and crammed with unique flavours, not your usual run of the mill meal there to be a token vegetarian meal. Lovely pub and restaurant that we’ll definitely come back to when we are here next.

We both had the steak and ale pie for mains and weren't dissapointed - proper made Yorkshire pies....... non of this stew in a dish with a pastry on top nonsense!!!! soooo good you have to try, served with amazing fries and plenty of gravy plus perfectly cooked veg - 5 stars can't fault anything - can't comment on desserts as didn't have room unfortunately!!! We went for Sunday lunch and were really disappointed with everything to be honest. The food was nothing special, definitely needed more gravy. The desserts were luke warm. We asked the the waitress what beers were available and she didn't know, didn't even offer to go and find out. We asked another waitress about a certain dessert and her response was 'I don't know what it is, I haven't seen one' no offer of 'I'll go and find out. Numerous people stood at the bar drinking and people walking about without mask on. One young man even made a joke about it. I highly doubt the tables are distanced correctly either. The bells on the table are a waste of time as nobody answers them. Really, really disappointed in the overall experience.

This restaurant was very highly recommended by a friend and Trip Advisor, so we booked it expecting a good, if not an excellent meal. We were advised to book and did so.We were thus surprised on arrival to find ourselves the only customers. The only fish on the menu was (cold) prawn salad - in January. I chose the mushroom omelette but was advised that a they had no eggs!! it was off. After pointing out the lack of a fish choice I was given another menu which had Cajun salmon or fillet of plaice, bit with vegetables and baby new potatoes. The fish was overcooked, smeared with some spicily hot stuff and tasteless. The chantenay carrots were drooping horribly with overcooking, the cauliflower and sugar snap peas equally inedible. I did not try a potato. This cost £14.95. The 'Chilean Merlot' was also disappointing, in glass smeary from the dishwasher with a chip out of the base.We shall not be returning.

Great ale, great wine choices, dozens of interesting gins, three cosy rooms with a welcoming fire in each and most important on a Sunday, the best most tender delicious lamb roast with superb giant homemade Yorkshire puddings, plus ample tasty fresh veg, and lots of perfectly seasoned gravy. Proper Tomato & Basil soup to begin, with lovely warm brown seeded baguette and butter. The pub itself is very cosy yet deceptively commodious inside, a veritable Tardis effect, decorated with an interesting eclectic selection of retro items. It is deservedly extremely popular most of the time and booking is strongly recommended. Lucy and her young team of smiling, helpful girls are excellent, efficient & friendly. A lovely country pub. Very quirky decor which I found fascinating. A warm welcome from the girl behind the bar. She was on her own and rushed off her feet. Waited around 20 minutes before she could get to us to take our order. The food took a long time to come. I know they were busy and it’s cooked from fresh but we waited longer than we should have done. The food was nice when it came and maybe on a quiet evening or an evening with more staff it would’ve been a better experience. An unexpected invitation led to our very enjoyable Sunday lunch. The pub was full but a reserved table was ready for us and after securing a drink ( and bumping into some old friends) we were seated promptly and our order taken. In addition to the usual Sunday fare there was a good selection of other dishes which a friend and I took advantage of. The men went for the Sunday roast as expected. My chicken dish baked with brie, cranberry and bacon was delicious and accompanied by chips to die for and a very tasty crisp salad. Another Malbec and a piece of lovely moist carrot cake made for a great finish. Service was good and we met a charming couple visiting KIlham while on holiday, at the next table with their dog. Perhaps a lighter choice on the pud menu would be a bonus, otherwise spot on.

Last Sunday my wife and I wanted to go somewhere different for lunch so after reading favorable reviews on this site we plumped for The Old Star at Kilham. I rang and booked a table for 2PM. We drove the 30 miles or so from where we live in Hull and arrived shortly before 2PM. A very charming and friendly young waitress showed us to a cost little table for two next to a lovely open fire. She brought our drinks to the table and we then proceeded to order. We both plumped for the roast beef and were pleasantly surprised when she asked whether we would like our beef rare, medium or well done as you are usually only asked this if you are ordering streak. We both asked for medium and this alas was the last of pleasant surprises. We were expecting pinkish coloured slices of beef as per the photo illustrated on the pub's website. The beef arrived swilling in gravy with a roast potato, mashed potato and Yorkshire pudding on the plate, and looked nothing like the photo. The vegetables were served in a separate dish. We proceeded to scrape the gravy of the meat and rather than medium it looked very well done and dried out. I can only assume that as the Yorkshire pudding was a bit on the soggy side the meal had been warmed up in the microwave and the gravy had been poured over it to prevent it drying out. The beef also looked as though it was the scrag end of the joint. We both put our forks into the meat and found it was difficult to cut through it with our knives. We also had difficulty chewing it. In hindsight I should have complained to the waitress but my wife did not want to make a fuss. The waitress did come across when we had just about finished and asked if everything was ok. I responded by saying the meat was as tough as old boot and asked for some toothpicks. She apologized, returned with the tooth picks and apologized again. I then went to settle the bar to pay the bill and it was the same waitress at the till. She apologized for a third time but no discount was offered. Needless to say I will NOT be recommending this pub to my relatives or friends. It was a total disappointment after reading all the positive reviews and it would be interesting to find out if any other diners had similar problems on this particular day.

Me and my boyfriend had an absolutely wonderful evening here. The pub was really busy but so cosy and welcoming. The slightly older blonde tall waiter who I think was called Henry was absolutely brilliant ! A lovely evening and would definitely recommend

My husband and I visited yesterday with our two children on a very cold, rainy winter eve. As soon as we arrived we sat by the roaring fire and my husband was offered tasters of the 3 guest ales. The serving staff were incredibly friendly, always checking we were ok, always attentive and making sure we had a fantastically relaxing meal.

We visited here on a glorious October Saturday evening. The place was packed out when we arrived but we were promptly shown to our table by a very friendly and polite chap and given our menus. We were seated next to the lovely open fire. Now it's not that I am a fussy eater at all, it's just that I have very specific dietary requirements so I always have a lot of questions to ask. On this occasion the menus were detailed enough for me to understand the ingredients, however, I did have a number of questions to ask. How refreshing it was to have a waiter who didn't have to shuffle off to ask chef various questions, as the young chap had clearly done his homework and could answer all my queries! Normally you get a grunting teenager who doesn't even know what the soup of the day is, that's not he case here so I felt confident I was in for a good experience. The menu here changes daily according to what seasonal produce is available. I have quite a fussy 12 year old who also makes various changes to his order. He could choose from the standard kids meals of nuggets, sausages etc or have a half portion from the main menu. He chose the latter but with an added request of no dressing on the side salad! We ordered starters and mains and what a refreshing change to actually receive your order all as requested! There was a wedding going on so I thought that with being so busy they would miss something but everything arrived freshly cooled and all as requested! My son had the lemon drizzle cake for dessert and our only disappointment was that there were no cheese and biscuits on the menu, but we were full anyway. This is a great rural pub well worth the visit if you are in the area with friendly, welcoming and knowledgable staff.

Small rural pub with open fires, a warm welcome from helpful staf and delicious food. Game burgers are special and the cider a brilliant accompaniment.

Faultless Sunday Lunch. Three people. One excellent homemade chicken pate starter. Two roast beef, one lamb ; perfectly cooked locally sourced meat. Two super homemade apple crumbles. Really, really difficult to pick out a `best bit` but the freshest ever sugar snap peas, from Rafters of Driffield (voted Best British Greengrocer two years running) and the creamy mashed potato were spontaneously chosen by two of us and the crumble by the third. I have categorised it as mid-range but the quality of the ingredients, preparation and service pushes it towards the cheap-eats end but without the `greasy spoon caff` connotations.

My partner and I visited The Old Star Inn a week ago and it was fantastic, we both has the roast; she ordered pork and I lamb, both were cooked perfectly and were delicious! The ambience in the pub is the standard of a comfortable cosy pub with what seemed like a family element, honestly a lovely establishment.

Took the family her for Sunday roast and we were not disappointed. I went for 3 courses at £14.95 and the food was generally good. My roast pork and associated veg was tasty though only got one roast potato. My chocolate and raspberry cake was tasty though slightly dry. Service was excellent, very attentive staff. recommended.

Were staying in a holiday rental nearby and this pub was recommended. They were very accommodating when our party of 8 arrived, pushing two big tables in the window together for us. The food was lovely and all plates were cleared - apart from the 2 who couldn't manage their massive gammon steaks! We had a range of starters, main courses and puddings, but the highlights were the monkfish, the gammon steaks and the lasagne - oh and the massive slices of chocolate cake for dessert. Service was great - even though the place was really busy. An extra special thanks to the lady behind the bar who helped us whittle down the choices from the 65 bottles of gin (!) to the gorgeous strawberry and the Scottish Bramble gin! Shame we'd left it until our last night to come here! We will be back though!

Whenever we visit Filey we call into this pub on the way home for a drink or two and have always really enjoyed it, until yesterday that is. We could forgive them for the lack of choice in crisps and also for serving us flat cola in a drink, although they did change the drink when we brought it to their attention. What was unforgivable was being asked to vacate our table so other people could sit to eat. We were still drinking our third round of drinks at the time and we felt it was rude and inexcusable. It seemed like they were happy to take our money whilst it was empty but obviously we were not potentially spending enough money compared to others. Made us feel very unwelcome. Needless to say we will not be visiting again.

Always stopped off for a drink en route home from Filey as the 4 us remember it as a lovely traditional village pub. Arrived Saturday before 6pm, drinking our 3rd round (we’re expecting to order a 4th ) we were asked to leave the table for people who were ordering a meal had a table ! ( no menus or reserved sign on the table at all ) Think we were that surprised , never had that happen anywhere ,EVER, we finished our drinks and left. Despite the fact we’d spent around £40, interlopers are obviously not welcome when locals come in. We won’t have the problem next time as feeling unwelcome, will not return

I cycled out from Bridlington in the hope of finding non seaside food and success. The pub has a couple of good ales nice gardens, most of all good grub. I had the ribeye steak and it actually came crunchy on the outside, pink and juicy in the middle. Best bit of steak I’ve had for months.

This was our local for the week we stayed in nearby Langtoft. We were recommended it by the cottage owner where we were staying and found it the most welcoming of pubs and were delighted with the food. The lasagne, steak pie and chicken with home made chips were hearty portions and absolutely delicious. The pub was full of character and the locals were very warm and welcoming - so much so, that my husband wants to move to Yorkshire!

Went with son in law and grandson for early Saturday teatime meal. The meal was absolutely delicious. The starter choice was simply stunning. We ordered the Pigeon and carpaccio of beef , wow the presentation was top class and tasted lovely. Rib eye steaks to follow which were cooked to perfection. A child’s portion of pasta from the main course was no trouble at all As was the arrival of the pudding early to placate a tired little boy. Superb

We stopped in on a Tuesday late afternoon. There was only one table occupied so it was nice and quiet. We both had double scoop cones. There were loads of ice cream flavours to choose from. Yummy.

We booked into the lodges next to the Gardeners Inn and decided to walk around for dinner & drinks. The venue is decorated for Halloween which I did enjoy and we had a lovely welcome from the waitress. A few item were sold out but the menu was plentiful and the food did not disappoint. I had the sizzling hunters chicken and my partner had Korean Chicken. Portion size was fantastic the side salad & slaw was fresh, definitely the best hunters chicken I’ve had. Banoffee Pie & cream for dessert again it was better than any other I’ve tried. Lovely atmosphere, service time felt right for the number of tables eating and the price was reasonable. Would recommend 100%

First visit to this lovely little restaurant to celebrate 🍾 both Mother’s Day and my wife's 60th birthday and we were not disappointed! The setting in the window table with background music and plenty of space was perfect. We ate off the a la carte menu and we both had three courses complimented by a bottle of fizz. Each course was food heaven and the service was exceptional so we will be returning for the Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday in April. Thank you
