I had previously visited this restaurant in June 2023 and had a wonderful experience, so when I was looking for a place to show off Yorkshire hospitality to some fronds traveling from London this seemed like the place to go. Warning bells should have sounded from the start when I was told the latest we could book a table for was 6.30pm. I assumed, incorrectly, they must be super busy. When we arrived the restaurant was empty. 4 of us wanted the Salmon starter after our order was taken the waitress returned to advise that only 2 were available. With such a limited menu the choice for alternatives were slim. The food was good the choice is small only 5 main courses and 5 starter options with additional 'pub food' type classics making up the menu, but excellent quality food. We settled in for a good meal and some catching up. When we ordered dessert and said we may want coffee and liqueurs after dessert we were told the restaurant closed at 8:00pm so if we wanted anything else to order it now and we could stay to 8:30pm. I asked for the bill!. I was not made aware of the closing time when I booked that table, if I had known I would have not booked for an evening meal.

The restaurant is nice and comfortable, my wife and myself visited for a anniversary lunch however, I had the sirloin steak what I got was a bit of meat attached to a load of fat, when I pointed this out to the waitress I got a "oh sorry about that", my wife had fish and chips she assured me they tasted fine although a bit over cooked, we both had a sweet Bakewell tart that was nice, to sum our visit up what we paid and what we got there will be no repeat visit, very disappointed

Excellent Full English, quality ingredients, good service ,lovely brew , all in all couldn’t fault it. Some may think £12 for breakfast in a tad expensive, but if you enjoy it , worth every penny, there is also a lack of decent quality breakfast places on a Sunday in this area anyhow. Give it a try !

We went for Sunday lunch. The restaurant is comfortable and welcoming. My friend had the chicken and enjoyed it, however I opted for the beef. The waitress asked if I was okay with the beef being pink, I said yes of course. Unfortunately the beef was almost raw and was impossible to cut or eat. The roast potatoes on the other hand were nearly burnt. The stuffing and two carrots and the parsnip were cooked perfectly. The greens were also fine but served in a very small dish which made serving them out difficult. The food is plated up at a serving hatch, I was sat opposite so had a good view. Unfortunately the young man plating up the food was using his fingers to pick up the meat and Yorkshire puddings; he was picking up the slices of meat and moving them from one plate to another; he did have some serving tongs but kept forgetting to use them. Needless to say this put me off my food. This is not a cheap lunch and so was disappointing. I don’t normally leave reviews but hoping that they read this and make some improvements as this is a lovely restaurant to visit in a lovely village.

Chose this spot as a halfway meeting point for family to get together for good food and company. We chose so well as this place was warm and welcoming and the food was delicious. The most perfect Sunday lunch. Cooked perfectly, beautifully presented. Incredibly delicious, the Yorkshire pudding is so tasty. Roasted carrots, parsnips and potatoes with a good dollop of red cabbage and it’s definitely worth paying extra for the cauliflower cheese. All served by the wonderful Molly! Our favourite waitress. Have booked to try the breakfast next week, can’t wait. I have eaten many good Sunday lunches over the past 50 years and this is definitely one of the best!

We visited a while ago and although the food was quite nice, we would probably not visit again. We are a group of friends in our 60's and as we were finishing off our meals and drinks, we were discussing what time to ask husbands to come and pick us up so that we could call them to set off. We made the calls, and settled to finish our drinks whilst we waited. The man who had been cooking in the kitchen then came out and asked if possible could we "get them to come earlier" as they "had been there all day and were tired and keen to get home". This was very embarrassing and totally unprofessional on their part. We left straight away and this led to 3 of us having to sit in the car of a friend, in the cold car park, until our lift arrived. This is not the attitude to have when you are providing a service to the public, which is a shame as the venue is lovely.

It was a laugh 👍 Very average service, our servers knew very little about the food they were serving. I asked - what is Gravalas please? She didn’t know, Should this goats cheese be warm? She didn’t know, should I eat the skin of the goats cheese? She said I’ll ask. My wife’s soup was very cool, not cold but not warm either so they took it away and nuked it for a minute 👍 Food was tasty but nothing fancy. Can we get coffee please ? She said no we close at 8.00pm and it’s now 8.05, sorry. We paid and left, our bill was £159 for four. Don’t think we’ll be rushing back 🤨

Had a joint birthday with my mum here and the service and food couldn't get any better. The team here couldnt do more for you. They couldnt have been more accommodating of my uncle who is in a wheel chair and made sure it was accessible so all the family could enjoy the meal. My mum is a massive stress head and they kept her calm throughout despite last minute changes to her seating arrangements 😂. I've popped in a couple of times prior to this and the food and wine is always to die for. An amazing team with a fantastic attitude and the best food this side of Sheffield. Myself and my friend visited last night for a meal. The restaurant is beautiful, a lovely relaxing place. From an excellent menu we both chose pies, my friend choosing steak and myself the mushroom. The pies were both delicious and arrived served with lovely handmade chips, mushy peas and a jug of gravy. The pies were very substantial with perfect pastry and the mushroom one was full of large mushrooms. It was absolutely gorgeous. We shall return to try the other dishes on the menu , hopefully soon. Lovely place, fairly newly reopened and I wish the lovely owners and staff well, its a quality place with fabulous food.

After a lovely visit to Wentworth Woodhouse we went for a meal at The Old Smythie Restaurant. What a lovely place, very welcoming staff and very efficient. There was four of us and we all chose the steak & potato pie. The young lady who served us went to great length to explain that the pie was only pastry topped ie not encased in pastry. - but actually that suited us all better! When it arrived it looked so appetising, lovely presentation and piping hot. Flaky pastry on top of an individual pie dish. I was most impressed when I requested Dijon mustard and they actually had some! I have been to expensive restaurants and requested Dijon, they don’t know what I’m talking about! All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Lovely place would definitely recommend.

There was nobody sat in the restaurant when we arrived at 11:30 a.m hoping to have breakfast. We cautiously opened the door and stepped inside to be met by a young lady with the brightest of smiles. We were warmly welcomed and ushered into the restaurant on the right side. The building is quite an amazing place - Dr Who would be impressed by how much larger it appears inside. We were charmed by the quality of fittings, table layout and one of a kind decoration. I have never been a football fan but even I realised how special the fittings were. Must be seen to be appreciated. We ordered two full English breakfasts and could see the chefs beavering away through the serving access. A pot of tea and a cup of coffee kept us happy during the short wait for arguably the best full English Breakfast we have had.talked to staff for 20 minutes and found out they have only just started opening for breakfast - hence nobody else there. My advice is get there before everybody finds out. I took my Mum for breakfast on Monday but sadly they are closed for cleaning on Mondays. The disappointment was soon forgotten as the owners were in doing the cleaning and another happy 40 minutes were spent in conversation with the lovely couple. My lack of knowledge of football was evident as I had no idea who I was talking to. Do a bit of research and hope they are on site when you visit. In short - fantastic place, amazing food, incredible staff and fascinating down to earth owners. Just go there - go now!

Table reserved in advance and we arrived on time. Restaurant was busy and every table had reserved signs. We ordered food from the carvery and the main menu. Food arrived after 15 minutes and was hot. We had been sat at the table for 1 hour and 5 minutes. We were then approached by a member of staff and were told we had to give the table back as it was required to be used with another table for a large party who were due to arrive. Told staff that we hadn’t even had dessert and would only move if they found us another table. We were told to move to a table (also with a reserved sign) in the adjoining function room and when we did so, other people in there complained it was booked for a private party and we weren’t allowed to be there. We then managed to find a table in the bar area but had to help my elderly parents onto high stools. It then took more than 20 minutes for desserts to arrive. While this was happening, there were other people, some with children, complaining that they were also being told to move and were walking around with plates of hot food trying to find somewhere to sit that wasn't genuinely reserved to eat. We were never told when being seated that we could only have the table for 1 hour. There were signs stating that the function room could be hired for private use every day except Sundays (it was a Sunday). This Pub is my local for food and me and my family are regulars (several times a month). It was a joke and none of the staff had a clue what they were doing. I shall be finding a new local after this poor performance.
