My husband and I had an evening meal at The Smithy with a couple of friends on Saturday evening. The meal was excellent, as was the welcome and the service. The menu was imaginative and the atmosphere was very good. We would certainly eat there again if in the area and would thoroughly recommend it.

Fab quirky wee place with lovely staff and the best gooseberry and rhubarb crumble ever. The plates were hot so check out their solution in the photos below. We're definitely coming again.

Called in for evening meal. Lovely food and welcoming, friendly service. Home made pasta with oats is a nice touch. Very enjoyable!. We had prawn cocktail and homemade Tarmosalata to start with, followed by spaghetti bolognese and mushrooms and pasta. No room for a sweet. Bought the pasta to try at home.

We visited on 27th May to try out the evening menu and were given a great first impression when we called up in the morning to book. Very helpful staff who clearly take pride in their offer. Food was absolutely delicious with several items on the menu made vegan upon request. We were made to feel very welcome. Lovely place to sit in or outside. Pasta is made fresh on site and local oats and salt are used in the process. So nice, we bought a bag to take with us. Fantastic all round. Will definitely be back!

We were passing through the village on a meandering route to Gatehouse of Fleet and timed it nicely for some lunch. We parked a short walk away just off Whylie’s Brae at an official car park as the streets are narrow and spaces were at a premium elsewhere. The café is in a traditional cottage style building but has been modernised internally. There was outside seating available at the entrance, which would have been an attraction had it not been raining at the time of our visit. There were a number of visitors present, staff were friendly and there was therefore a pleasant ambiance. Despite the offer of specials, which included a homemade pasta dish of the day, we were looking for more of a snack. There were decent options in this regard and my wife ordered a Tuna Mayo & Cheese Jacket Potato which was served with three different salad garnishes - carrot & sultanas; baby broad bean & sundried tomato; and a house coleslaw (£7.75). I ordered a soup & sandwich combo - Broccoli & Stilton soup and Chicken with lemon mayo sandwiches (£9.00). Service was very good and the fresh, tasty and quality produce made for an enjoyable lunch . We finished things off with an Americano and Flatwhite coffee (£2.70 each) which brought our bill to just over £22 which we thought was good value. Tempting as the cakes looked, we resisted indulging to save our appetite for later. Toilets were well maintained. There are small gift options on display for purchase. Check opening times - currently only on Friday & Saturdays during winter months.

My husband and I came here today for lunch. What a fantastic menu to choose from. We decided on one of their specials....... pulled pork sandwich served with coleslaw, sweetcorn salsa and tortilla chips. Absolutely delicious. A mug of cappuccino to finish it off. We sat outside, lovely table and chairs with parasol. Our wee pup was very settled and received two biscuits from the lovely staff. Friendly service, couldn't ask for more. Will definitely be back very soon.

Driving back from Wigtown to Troon we stopped off for refreshment at the Smithy in New Galloway. Scones were delicious accompanied by a lovely pat of fresh butter and ever so tasty home made blackcurrant jam! All excellent! Staff lovely and friendly! Toilets immaculate! Would certainly recommend the Smithy! They make their own pasta also, all with Scottish ingredients! Looking forward to trying it! It’s run by Margaret and her husband. Margaret makes the scones. They also do slow cooked pulled pork which seems to go down a storm! Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area!

A beautiful setting next to the river, a lovely menu, everything was prepared to order and you could taste the freshness and care. Lovely choice of accompanying salads.
