I had a very good lunch experience today. My order was fish and chips, and sticky toffee as a dessert. I enjoyed them both. I was served by Arman, who was very kind. I would definitely visit again.

6 pm booking hoping to get 2x sunday roasts before a theatre show Lovely venue - calm, peaceful, not busy. sadly ends there. Ordered 2 starters and mains, mains turned up with no starters. Waiter forgot to order it. Look at my plate to find 2 small potatoes and what look like scraps for veg. When asked if there was any chance of some more, they came without any crunch or seasoning. 20% off the bill total, nice but ( had to ask ) Just poor for a 4.7 star place.

Very nice place with a quite atmospher. The food was amazing!!! We had fish and chips and got a huge portion! We had Diana as a waitress and she was very friendly. We would recommend this place!

Re visited the old shades on Sunday and it was exactly the same wonderful experience i had on my first visit Sunday roast was delicious i had Roast beef and it was perfect . Excellent service great atmosphere very friendly people and it will be my regular now very clean all around beautifully decorated. Thank you Rob and the team.

Ate fish and chips. Just thought it was tasteless. I also noticed that the girl was not looking forward to her work. Finally: the owner himself determined how much tip he received by secretly pressing 10% on a tip selection menu at the PIN terminal. It is a very nice thing. Owner indicates that this is not the case, but they are. I don't know whether it was the owner himself, or at least someone behind the bar.

The staff was delightful, and the interior decorations were wonderful. Even the music and fresh Guinness draft beer! I love everything about this restaurant. (I don’t know the food because I’ve only been drinking) I recommend it!

Excellent service.. nice place BUT One burger(awfull),one chicken schnitzel,4 beers and one salad(5 small pieces greek cheese and onion) 87£ or 105 Euros. In Greece with 100 euros we eat perfect food 4 persons.. I wondered if English people knowing to eat..

We went here before a show at The Trafalgar Theatre (opposite). What a find! Friendly service, tasty food - good portions, good vibe. Would definitely go here again.

First Sunday Roast! Super cute little pub with a fun and quaint atmosphere. Beks was amazing. If you don’t come for the food, come for Beks.

Every time I come to London, I go to this pub, the food is good and the atmosphere is warm. I recommend the Steak and Ale Pie with my eyes closed.

We came across this pub whilst walking around midday and decided to stop for lunch. The place is incredible, very nice inside, with soft lights and tidy tables. You sit where there is free space, like in every London pub, and order at the counter. Wide selection of beers, all very good and obviously well poured (also poured into the glass corresponding to the chosen beer). Hamburger served with chips perhaps among the best I've ever eaten but on the other hand it's difficult to eat badly in a good pub. Clean place, friendly and fast service. Nothing to complain about. Mandatory stop!

Atmosphere is great, and we went here because it had 4.7 on Google. I don't think it was for the fish and chips, which was greasy and flavorless, so the tartar sauce (which is very good) is a must.

Came here looking for universal classics (steak, burgers, etc) and also traditional London cuisine. The menu is very deceiving as it sounds like you’ll be served a well garnished and well-thought out dish but it appears no one is really cooking in the back as the dishes were presented is a very formulaic way (ie. meat + random scattering of salad greens + small portion of “Triple cooked chips,” we expected deep fried homemade fries but it was obvious they were frozen). Well cooked steak, decently friendly staff, and nice decor. Thus comments are equivalent with the rating.

The good: fish and chips, kids and adult serve both excellently made. The bad: chips in tiny little buckets for the kids, served with a bizarre bbq sauce + chili flake mix. The terrible: tiny schnitzel compared to the fish; no salad as on menu (I think based on photos it’s actually the same thing as the kids chicken strips, just for the kids they cut it up). The lazy/very disappointing: arrived just before midday, FORTY SEVEN minute wait for lunch. Building itself is very nice. I would suggest attending for a quick drink at the bar of something easy to prepare - tap beer or similar.

Beautiful and classic decor, though sadly that is where it ends. Food was very average at best, as were the cocktails. Furthermore, the ladies toilet had a leak in one cubical, with another without toilet roll and no soap to wash your hands. Assuming the rating of 4.7 is due to high levels of tourist footfall who are in awe of the interior, but perhaps do not have the context of really good british pub food, to measure this place against. Much better quality food, service and cocktails to be had in the surrounding area.

Stumbled into this pub more or less by accident when looking for a place for some small snacks for lunch after Christmas shopping. Lucky us that we arrived before noon given it became very crowded shortly after. But we got a table without reservation and really like the menu which has some things on it that are not seen in every pub (scallops, chestnut soup). We really enjoyed our small lunch, a couple of classic cask ales in a lively & very nicely decorated pub

A nice experience all around. Our server Irid was especially attentive. Came in with a friend for a chat and light dinner. Fish&Chips were very good, portion of chips initially a bit small but upon prompting our server brought more. The curry sauce could be improved or dropped. It was a quiet night.

We had such a great time at The Old Shades!! The beer was excellent and the Steak Pie was so comforting on a windy day. The staff (Beks and team) made sure we were taken care of and gave great recommendations. Would come here again and am grateful we chose this spot to pop in to!

Old Shades is the typical pub that you have to visit. You realize you are in the right place when you see that it is full of Londoners. The food was very good, we had fish (neluza) and chips that comes with several sauces (a very good curry and the tartar also very good), a beef pie which is stewed meat wrapped in puff pastry with mashed potatoes. We also ordered beef burger for the boys. All very good. We also ordered a cauliflower with cheese which was not bad but we were not convinced because the cheese was strong for us. They have Guiness 0.0 which if you don't drink alcohol is very very good. Totally recommended.

We had the best Christmas Eve at The Old Shade. Beks was the most excellent bartender!! Fun time and dinner at the bar. Drinks and food was amazing. May I also add the music was fantastic. Not kidding this place rocks!

Greatest PUB in London, undoubtedly!

My partner is Coeliac and never has much on the menu to eat, even from home in Australia. This menu had so many gluten free options for her, including the staple fish and chips, which was excellent! Rob did a great job to find us a table even when the pub was packed, we highly recommend this place!!

Old Shades was a wonderful pub for a Christmas family lunch. The food was outstanding and the highlight was Roger from Portugal! He was so kind, attentive and funny. We enjoyed the experience particularly because of him and we will return and highly recommend. Happy Christmas

Besides the White Swan, this may be my new favorite pub in London, especially since it's hidden among overly touristy spots. A perfect sized crowd. A nice selection of beers, including quite a few cask ales. And wonderfully friendly, knowledgeable bartenders...especially Bekim. He's astounding! Whatever you are in the mood for, he's got you covered. Cheers to Bekim!

Average food, but service was just awful. I live in France so am used to a slower paced service, but we had to physically get up to get the server’s attention for anything that we needed. They never even glanced in our direction. I asked if service was at the bar since no one was coming by and they very clearly said no, everything should be ordered at the table. I, and the party next to us, tried waiving our arms at various times to get their attention to the point that we were joking that they are playing a trick on us. I had to ask for water 3 times before they brought it. At the end, the server had the nerve to automatically add 12.8% service charge to our party of 2. The menu explicitly states it’s added for parties of 4 or more, which again is a bit odd, but to sneak it into the bill for 2 people was ridiculous, especially for the quality that of service provided. Very disappointing experience in an otherwise wonderful holiday.
