Fantastic food, brilliant service from Reece. Our go to spot for some top food. We always bring visitors from abroad here. Highly recommend

Great ambience and very relaxed for our family reunion. Staff were not just attentive, but full of warmth and cheer making it a very special evening. The food was fine and everyone enjoyed their meals.

We stopped by for a drink on Good Friday afternoon. Sat at the bar and were cheerfully served by Beks. Returned on Easter Sunday. Beks remembered us, down to our drinks. He helped us get a table for Easter lunch. The food (a burger and chips and soup) were good and filling. The staff were all helpful and attentive but Beks is the standout. We definitely recommend the Old Shades and hope to return in our next trip to London.

Great restaurant. I am gluten free & got the fish & chips. The chips were nothing “extraordinary” but the fish was great. The crust was light & air-y, the sauces (curry sauce, aioli, and pea pudding) they supplied on the side were all fantastic & provided a nice variety that usually places do not have My fiancé got the steak & ale pie - was not gluten free (obviously) and she said the beef was unreal - she still thinks about it weeks later. The seasonal veggie was some type of cabbage which is not something she would particularly love usually, but she said even that was exceptional. Pub was lively but near our dine in table was spacious, so we still were able to enjoy a nice dinner while being surrounded by the fun energy over near the bar deeper in the restaurant. Great restaurant, nice area of town near the river & government buildings. Would recommend to anyone going to London!

Nice pub with decent food, friendly and efficient staff. We're a family of four so we ordered four mains. The Steak and Ale pie was great. Not a huge fan of British-style short crust pie pastry, but the filling was rich and delicious. Fish and chips were respectable. The Cumberland sausages and mash were good. The sausages weren't the tastiest, but the gravy and onion were delicious and made up for it. The shepherd's pie was the only letdown. Very basic and the ratio of filling to mash was a bit off. We also ordered some sides (cabbage and cauliflower cheese), but next time, we won't bother with them. Beers were all good. Would come again.

Food in quantity, plenty to choose from and with vegetarian options. Possibility of trying local beers and also a wide assortment of cocktails.

We had reserved a table and we were seated immediately upon arrival. Staff was friendly and attentive. The ambiance was nice, but became a little loud and busy toward the end of our meal. My wife chose the fish and chips, which she said, was one of the best she'd had of the 5 while in England. The mushy peas were a bit old tasting, though. I had the Sunday Roast with the beef. The veggies and potatoes were barely warm, but still very tasty. The beef, unfortunately, was overcooked and a bit tough. I was expecting a thicker cut that was medium, but was not asked when I ordered. However, it was a dinner time meal and perhaps those cuts were not available. The Yorkshire pudding was good. All in all a pleasant experience. Just can't recommend the beef based on what I was served.

The Sunday roast was great, but the company made it better. Beks is a bartender, and he was amazing. I sat at the bar as I didn’t make reservations in advance, and I was glad I hadn’t. I would not have met Beks! He is so funny and made the experience at the restaurant so much better. Thank you, Beks!!

It was my first day in London after 15 years. This pub was exactly what I needed after an excellent walk around the town. Beks made my evening and helped me to feel myself at home♥️ come over and have some fish and chips (it’s really good) and some nice beer✨

The food was terrible. Burger bun fell apart. Took so long to get our food. My daughters salad was mostly feta - no lettuce So she ordered a burger. Took even longer. No one refreshed our waters Or checked on us Had to ask for the check eventually Surprised they have such great reviews. Perhaps they were having an off day. Too bad we won’t be trying again.

Very good gluten free Fish&Chip

Bekim was incredible. He let me sample different beers to find what I liked. Very pleasant and shared stories and made several recommendations that we loved.

Wonderful atmosphere and absolutely gorgeous pub. The prices are very reasonable. Decorations are gorgeous I could not get over it. Diana was our server and she was so great! We got appetizers as our meals and it was wonderful portions for a light lunch. The scallops and shrimp were delicious. The drinks we had were also so refreshing. Would definitely recommend and come again!

Great atmosphere and food Classic pub experience

A very traditional pub atmosphere, you will find the regulars there but there will always be a place for a tourist wanting to have a beer and as the staff are great, I can only recommend this address!!!

Came here to try the London Sunday roast. The roast beef was pretty hard so that was a disappointment. Yorkshire pudding was good. Serving size is massive. Fish and chips not bad. Food came out quite slow so expect to wait if you go. Servers nice and friendly.

The fish and chips was surprisingly disappointing (could not tell if the oil they used to fry it or the fish was not super fresh). The Peachy cocktail is to avoid at all cost. The rest was fine. Just fine however. Not sure why the pub was so highly rated on Google. I would not go back.

I had a long layover in London and took the opportunity to get to know the city. I did some research beforehand and found Old Shades with very good reviews, so I decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise. The place is beautiful and the staff is super friendly. I was with a friend and we ordered fish & chips to share with an extra side of potatoes. The order arrived super fast and the fish was delicious and even came with 3 sauces. If I have the chance to go back to London, I will definitely go back.

Excellent Haddock and chips with sides of mushy peas, curry sauce and tartare sauce was absolutely lovely and very filling, atmosphere was relaxing, clean toilets downstairs with disabled toilet in the main restaurant ground level, flat access no steps. Excellent greeting with clean tables and cutlery, staff were professional and polite, all in all very enjoyable experience of visiting Old Shades.

We went in for the classic pub experience. The drinks were cold and yummy. I had an IPA and mu wife ordered a strawberry lime cider. The pan roasted duck was yummy. The bangers and mash was good too. The scotch egg was perfect. Good crunch and the sausage was seasoned well. The yolk the way it should be. Look forward to coming back.

We were looking forward to a nice and memorable Sunday Supper experience as first time travelers to London. Reading the reviews as of this morning, we were primed for the evening after a long day of sightseeing. Upon entering there was no hostess stand so we ventured past the bar before we found someone to check in with as we had a reservation. After being seated, we waited several minutes before further acknowledgment. We witnessed another party walk out stating rude treatment, their exact words. We had to ask for steak knives to cut the roast and flag down the server for the check. If you wanted service this night, you had to ASK. This was one of three reservations over a nine day period for a milestone birthday trip. Glad this was not the birthday meal. Quite a disappointment.

A very pleasant establishment, nice decor. I found a table for one with ease. Had a drink followed by a superb Haddock and Chips. The batter was crispy, the fillet plentiful and succulent. Generous portion of lovely chips and sides of mushy peas, tartare and curry sauces. Staff friendly, attentive and served quickly. Well worth a visit.

We found it had a difficult booking system but once we managed to get tables for our group on the day, we really enjoyed the experience and ambiance. Great cask beer selection, awful 'craft' beer selection of corporate macros (Heineken - Neck Oil / AbInbev - Camden Helles / Asahi - Meantime). Food looked good but didn't try. Nice classic / traditional decor and atmosphere. Owners reply is either not genuine or ill informed...

It's a beautiful pub with good location. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for! Food is good, nothing spectacular, but that's not what you expect from a classic London pub - good burger and chicken schnitzel, tasty drinks, that's all you need.

Beks (one of the bartenders) is the best! The burger is great, but the fries are much more like American fries. So if you like that, you’ll like this.
