Fantastic, cheery service from Roger! Very attentive and delicious food

We had such a great time at The Old Shades!! The beer was excellent and the Steak Pie was so comforting on a windy day. The staff (Becks and team) made sure we were taken care of and gave great recommendations. Would come here again and am grateful we chose this spot to pop in to!

We had an excellent time at this bar and owe it all to Beks!! He was welcoming and attentive. Not only did he take care of us but it was enjoyable to watch him interact with his other guests as well. Always had a smile and a kind word!!

Besides the White Swan, this may be my new favorite pub in London, especially since it's hidden among overly touristy spots. A perfect sized crowd. A nice selection of beers, including quite a few cask ales. And wonderfully friendly, knowledgeable bartenders...especially Bekim. He's astounding! Whatever you are in the mood for, he's got you covered. Cheers to Bekim!

We were visiting London and stopped by for lunch, it was definitely worth the stop! Mikey and Diana were our servers and they were really great !! It’s a very beautiful pub, with a great atmosphere, the food was delicious and the whole staff is very friendly and helpful !

Average food, but service was just awful. I live in France so am used to a slower paced service, but we had to physically get up to get the server’s attention for anything that we needed. They never even glanced in our direction. I asked if service was at the bar since no one was coming by and they very clearly said no, everything should be ordered at the table. I, and the party next to us, tried waiving our arms at various times to get their attention to the point that we were joking that they are playing a trick on us. I had to ask for water 3 times before they brought it. At the end, the server had the nerve to automatically add 12.8% service charge to our party of 2. The menu explicitly states it’s added for parties of 4 or more, which again is a bit odd, but to sneak it into the bill for 2 people was ridiculous, especially for the quality that of service provided. Very disappointing experience in an otherwise wonderful holiday.

Such a genuine and atmospheric place. The bar food is absolutely amazing and they could easily charge double and I would have been happy to pay. Highly recommended.

Booked a medium sized table for a team christmas dinner and the service, atmosphere and food was excellent. The pub had a nice Christmassy smell and servers were attentive.

Authentic English Pub next to Trafalgar Square. Good atmosphere, good food and better service. To put a but, the prices are somewhat high. Next time I return to London, I will repeat :)

Delicious food, friendly staff. It is quite pricey, even when you consider where you are. The stairs to the women's toilets are quite steep so avoid if drinking and in heels!

It’s always a pleasure coming here to The Old Shades. It’s been around since 1680, what more can you ask for! Great food, great drinks, even better service! Highly recommend sitting at the bar and talking to the bartenders!

Wow! Amazing place . Becks was our server and he was great. Made a perfect recommendation for the fish and chips and the steak and ale pie’s!!! And the caske ale was superb. We will be back! It was super crowded with locals, but Becks fit us in somehow! ❤️

Bek’s was absolutely phenomenal for us tonight! We just got in from the States and were tired and hungry, pub was full but he found us a table for 7! Food was amazing, I went with the Fish and Chips and wow - great serving size and taste was out of this world. The Old Shades is a must hit spot for a quick bite or a pint, don’t skip it!

Loved the Old Shades! Classic English pub, beautifully appointed inside and out. The food was tasty and the selection of beer was top notch. Our waiter / barkeep Mikey was an enthusiastic and helpful guide to the cask selection and seemed genuinely interested in making our time in London as ideal as possible. I enjoyed our chat about pub culture and appreciation of the real ales. Would strongly recommend.

I was there on Sunday evening. We didn't expect much because it was late, but they served us a delicious Sunday Roast. Cosy atmosphere next to Trafalgar Square and nice service.

Nice atmosphere of a typical English pub but forgettable food. Many dishes were finished, little food was available and we had to fall back on food recommended by the waiter. My fish and chips (gluten free) were overcooked. I wouldn't go back

Food it’s great, a 10/10. We didn’t leave a piece of the Fish&Chips nor the Schnitzel. The pub was great too. And Beks was great with the service. He makes you feel at home. Best bartender around!

Food was fairly standard. Ok but nothing special. A lovely pub though.

Stopped in to get out of the cold, and stayed for the fish and chips. They were delicious. Even though they were busy, we were seated immediately. Diana was our server, and she was great. Definitely will dine there again on our next visit to London.

Re visited the old shades on Sunday and it was exactly the same wonderful experience i had on my first visit Sunday roast was delicious i had Roast beef and it was perfect . Excellent service great atmosphere very friendly people and it will be my regular now very clean all around beautifully decorated. Thank you Rob and the team.

Had read a lot of good reviews, so was really looking forward to their Sunday Roast (bc I normally have to cook my own.) Unfortunately, I think all of the reviews must’ve been written by tourists bc it was incredibly disappointing to say the least. Do not go here if you’re looking for an authentic, flavorful Sunday Roast, bc you’ll be underwhelmed. Bland, tough, dry, sad.

Awesome food! We had fish & chips, purple broccoli & wild rice salad, homity veg pie. All were good! We have enjoyed the food thoroughly! Might be worth noting that the waiting time is a little long, but the experience was great nevertheless!

I came across this pub while passing by, the atmosphere was really nice and the staff were very friendly! I was wondering what beer to drink, so he let me taste each one and recommended them, so I drank some delicious beer.

I first went to The Old Shades Pub nearly 47 years ago to ask my future Father-in-Law for his daughter's hand in marriage. It is as good now as it was then! I have visited it whenever I am in London. On Saturday it was for family members and there were eight of us. The friendly service was exceptional as was the food, beer and wine! Another great experience! Thank You to all the staff.

We couldn't end our stay in London without trying one of the classic local pubs Near Trafalgar Square there is the Old Shades, a beautiful English-style pub, warm and welcoming, all in wood Friendly and cheerful staff, we are immediately transported into the typical festive atmosphere of the place, where mugs of beer whiz by everywhere The menu is varied, ranging from classic dishes to slightly revisited ones We tried something based on fish but above all meat, and we must say that we were satisfied It was definitely the best way to return home coming here, one of the most typical things about the United Kingdom remains vivid in the mind

This pub was a delightful find on Google after a visit to the National Gallery. It's narrow but goes way back so not too small. The food was delicious! And the service was superior. Not too busy either on Tuesday at 2pm. Convenient to buses and trains. I highly recommend a visit.

Just came in this morning and we were so pleased to find this delightful pub. Had the soup of the day and my husband had the fried haddock. Loved both. Diana, our server, was very helpful.

The food was so delicious that my mouth is still watering and I and stuffed full! Sticky toffee pudding will be something I dream of in the future! The duck was tender and tasty.

Good ale and a proper unspoilt London pub now owed by YOUNGS who know their Ales. Unofficial "HQ" of the Royal Yachtsmens Association when attending the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sundays.
