Amazing Bloody Mary! Great Pub food and ambience, very central to town. Roger is very friendly and we sat by the window overlooking the street.

Wow, great find on TA. Never in London to make a Sunday roast. Food and drink delicious. Atmosphere was amazing traditional British pub, super clean, and well managed. Thanks to my server, Roger, he guided me through the menu and provided prompt service with a big smile. I will be back!

Such a nice welcoming pub to enjoy after strolling through London. The staff, Roger in particular, were all very friendly. Excellent Sunday roast!

The Sunday Roast dinner was amazing. The roast beef was fork tender. Our server, Roger, was so helpful and attentive. And the gentleman behind the bar was extremely knowledgeable and great! Love this place!

Nice tea, good location and interior

We wanted that authentic English “Pub” feeling (sadly a lot of places felt like they’re trying to be U.S). This pub though got ALL our desires. From the warm friendly welcome, to the delicious British classic dishes, to a very attentive, kind, treating us like family great waiter (Arman), to one of the servers from Poland sitting down and talking story with us… 10 out of 10! We will ALWAYS go back to this pub. It was the best atmosphere vibe feeling ever!

AMAZING gluten free fish and chips and superb attentiveness to my food safety concerns. I sent an email inquiring if I could book a table where one of our party had a gluten allergy. Jack was very responsive booking my table and ensuring that I had all of my questions answered. I had a menu outlining exactly what I could have and the rest of my party loved their food too.

Sunday roast was amazing, had the beef and it was cooked perfectly. The gravy was perfect and the Yorkshire pudding topped off the experience. Jack served us and was great. Really enjoyed the experience and service would recommend and come back !!

Best sticky toffee pudding I’ve had in England 😄 Sunday roast (beef) is simply yet fantastic. I changed my mind about English cuisine from now.

Sunday roast: Lamb was dry and hard to chew and the veggie pie was cold inside. They never asked us how the food was so we had to get up and ask someone to heat up the pie. They were nice enough to give us £10 off our meal, but wouldn’t come back here again.

This is a wonderful and tasty place 🤩 We highly recommend you to order chicken pie and Cumberland sausages - it’s delicious

Stopped in for some awesome pub fare. Our server, Jack, welcomed us with a warm hello and smile & quickly took our drink order. We started with some bar bites...cheese platter/Scotch egg/sticky ribs/sausage with mustard and finished with an order of Fish & Chips. Our fish & chips were the best we ever had...haddock w/a light fluffy batter sprinkled with maldon sea salt alongside of golden chips/mushy peas/homemade tartar & curry sauce and charred lemon. Well done Old Shades...would highly recommend.

By far, the best meal we have ever had in all of greater London and beyond. Ambiance, service (Roger was a wonderful server!), food and drink offerings, ALL absolutely stellar! Chicken and leek pie was MAGNIFICENT and the Fish & Chips my husband had was the best he’s ever eaten worldwide. Loved the long list of gin cocktails, the Newcastle brown ale, and finished it off with INCREDIBLE sticky toffee pudding. Our only regret is that we found it on the last day of our trip, but this will be our first stop next time we’re in London.

Fabulous Sunday Roast! I had the beef roast and my husband had the fish& chips. Everything was delicious! Wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive. Great pub atmosphere. Will definitely return!

We went here twice it was so good. The starters are fabulous & the Haddock fish & chips over the top. They have a secret way fry the fish without oil. The thin crust on the fish makes it unique & to die for. The pub atmosphere is authentic & service is friendly & prompt with attention & constant attention

The food was great, but portions were small for the price.

We just had a magnificent Sundays Roast. But the best thing about the restaurant is Jordi, one of its waiters. An attention of 10! We will surely return on our next visit to London.

Service was great, was here with 8 children who barely speak English, the server Jadson was very patient and very caring with the kids. The food were amazing as well. Good value for this location.

Visited yesterday after checking amazing review and photos. Food arrived after 50min (for pub lunch;;) and were not good at all. Had to chase few times during lunch break and they kept saying the food is coming “in a minute” whenever I asked refund. Do not recommend at all.

Between Marty...Monica and Jackson this was the MOST fun pub we found in our week long stay in London!!! Bar is amazing and the service is the absolute BEST!!!

We booked from Australia weeks ago and it did not disappoint. The traditional roast was everything we thought it would be. One of us is gf and the options were great.

Absolutely fantastic. We are on holiday from Australia, 🇦🇺 and really enjoyed the full “English pub” experience. Great atmosphere, amazing staff, the food was next level. Delicious and authentic, we really enjoyed the original versions of the food we have at home, but it’s better!

The perfect pub! The exterior is lovely and the interior cozy & fun. From the moment you walk through the doors, the staff are super friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious, portions generous, and prices more than fair. Bonus - they have gluten free fish & chips! Very hard to find in London. Roger our server was awesome. We met three staff members while at Old Shades and all were so gracious. Best food, drink and service ever! We had 4 adults, 3 kids and two strollers. Lots of room. So family friendly! Thanks to Roger and a great team!

We sat in a booth in the heart of the restaurant overlooking beautiful bar. My steak and ale pie was delicious. Veggies flavourful! The food took a little while to come out but I'd prefer that if it means quality is good, which it was, and which was rare during our visit to London. My husband's fish 'n chips was the best we'd tasted during our trip.

Delicious food and great service. We came for Sunday Roast and ordered the lamb, pork belly, and beef. Everyone had great things to say about their dishes, as well as the fish and chips and carrot soup. My dad even said the pork belly was the nicest he's had in the UK (he is a tourist, but has visited here a few times!). Roger was a super friendly and helpful host, made us feel very welcome and had great jokes :)

Drinks and service were great, steak less desirable, fatty and grisly. 1/2” steak asked for medium, came out well. I definitely would not recommend the steak.

We reserved ahead of time and the table was ready for us when we arrived. Service and food were great though very loud inside (as expected for a busy pub). The food was generous and tasted great. We enjoyed ourselves and would return!

Old Shades has a beautiful interior, friendly and helpful staff, and great food. We were walking between sights in London and the outside of Old Shades caught our eye. When we entered (mid-afternoon between lunch and dinner) it was not too busy, so we were seated right away. Our server was attentive and made sure we were taken care of. We had the Steak and Ale pie, the Fish and Chips, and a rump steak. The Fish and Chips was perfection, nothing negative I could say about it. The pie was actually a pie, which was great, and it was also tasty. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered and was excellent. All of our chips were crisp and well cooked. It took quite a while to get our food; not sure if they were short staffed that day, but we weren't in a rush so it was fine. Highly recommended.

Thefood is good and decent range of drinks. Feels more of a restaurant than a pub though. Felt a bit awkward going in on my own and just having a drink. Atmosphere set it down, but still a lovely place

We had great friendly service and wonderful food from Roger and Beks at the old Shades. Had Sunday roast beef and fish and chips. This is our second time here and we really enjoy the atmosphere and vibe and will come again

I think The Old Shades is my favorite pub on Whitehall. Always something worth drinking on tap, and the interior is very beautiful.

Been visiting London and went to a few pubs. This by far and wide was the best ine we visited! Great food, great service, clean and very nice bathrooms, air conditioning! I will certainly be coming back next visit! Cannot recommend enough!

Really Very nice pub right on Whitehall. Small entrance frontage area, but big inside with chic interior and high ceilings. BEKS was a great barman and member of the team looking after our party of 4 very well indeed. Such a great chap. Will definitely use the Old Shades again when in that area as much better than the 4 others pubs near by 😁

We stopped into Old Shades on July 7/24 hoping for Sunday Roast. We did not have a reservation and our waiter was kind enough to squeeze us in. We were so glad as the Sunday Roast was fabulous and of course we had to have Sticky Toffee Pudding which is our favorite. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the music and of course the food. Our waiter was amazing and so accommodating. Thank you so much for making 2 Canadian seniors feel so special. Jane and Pat

A small looking pub from the outside, but roomy and comfy on the inside , big high ceilings and a/c. A good selection of good cask ales and keg beers . Harvey's and Young's on draught on our visit Friday afternoon. Friendly helpful staff, Beks looked after our small group. A well looked after clean pub , attentive staff kept tables clean. Highly recommend a visit here if in the Whitehall area. Beer London prices !

Old Shades was conveniently located considering we had been traveling all day with 2 small children and we needed dinner fast. We weren’t sure about bringing 2 kids into a pub but Beks at the bar was the man and was very welcoming and hospitable. The atmosphere was great, my wife enjoyed her cocktail, and I enjoyed the drafts. The burger was phenomenal.
