The Old Post Office in South Oxfordshire

Thank you for making a 30th birthday very special , we had an amazing experience , food was great, the chef even stalled as a couple of guests were running late , Thomas took care of us all evening his service was outstanding .

We visited OPO on an early Sunday evening. On arrival, we were informed that all menu items that involved frying were not available as the fryer had broken. Fair enough, these things happen. We decided on a Sunday roast dinner but only pork and brisket (not more expensive sirloin as menu said). Can't fault the starters. The roast was very disappointing. When I asked where the Yorkshire pudding was, I was told they'd run out. I was offered a garlic pizza instead, which was declined. Must have been a very off day as the roast dinner was poor. We gave up on pudding as many items on the menu were not available. The waiter was great and was apologising continually about the problems with the meal. Felt so sorry for them. Members of our party had been before and were so disappointed with the meal.

The most delicious food! Enjoyed the halloumi in chilli honey and it was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. I had the prawns linguine as my main and it was delicious. The portions are so generous, which you don’t tend to see these days. The waiting and bar staff were friendly and attentive. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!

Simply put, the whole experience was exquisite. From the moment I walked in the door and was greeted by the host, the professionalism was apparent. Nothing was too much, the staff were attentive and the food tasted great. Highly recommended.

Very disappointing lunch. Items served were cold, table covered in crumbs and stains, service slow.

I cannot fault anything about the experience that I received a week or so ago. From the warm and welcoming greeting I received to the professional and polite yet friendly staff. The food was excellent and perfectly cooked which is unusual these days to actually get a steak blue to rare as it is often overcooked!! The sides of fries were ample, as was the side salad. It was incredibly reasonable price for the size of steak and accompaniments. I was checked on a couple of times and was offered a 2nd drink and third as well as to look at the dessert menu - I was far too full by then! The whole experience was a delight and I would highly recommend this place to everyone and anyone.

Good food, some music would help But a nice venue

Last minute Sunday lunch and we weren’t disappointed. I had the beef and it melted in the mouth. Good plateful of food. My friend had the butternut squash and spinach pie and was very happy with her choice also. Friendly staff, Food came out quickly. Overall, a fantastic trip and will definitely return 👌

I have recently moved to Wallingford and have found the Old Post Office to be welcoming warm and super friendly. The staff all seem to have a passion for what they do and the food was fresh, tasty and cooked very well. I had the Cesar Salad and Pollo Panna (chicken and mushroom pasta) both I can highly recommend. The cocktails are very nice too, I couldn’t find similar ones anywhere close

Ordered two salads for £16.50 each and asked for one without onion. Despite telling me mine was without onion, it contained onion. They replaced it quick enough, but the both salads were bland. Looked like it had been pre made in a batch hours prior, then dished up. Because of this, the leaves were soggy and it was generally unappealing. Despite staff being initially friendly, after delivering my replacement salad, no one came back to check on us. We ended up leaving half our salad each and walking out.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast. Good food & service.

Food and atmosphere was great, Service staff were very friendly, only negative is price is a bit on the steep side for dinner, but everything else was lovely

Service actually excellent - shout out to Mollie. Food very good. Background music a tad intrusive. But biggest bugbear is tiny print on menu saying they will add a discrentionary 10% for service unless you request it to be deleted. I repeat I not them decide whether I will tip for service, so poor Mollie got nothing instead if the generous tip I would have given her for her excellent skills. Photo is Dulche leche sundae not the dog icecream also on sale !!

Brilliant relaxed placed to eat

The whole of Wallingford clubs together to make bunkfest a great success. The only pub which clearly and evidently won't participate is the old post office. What once was a historical landmark of Wallingford, is a sad reflection of the dying hospitality industry. I recommend shutting down and letting competent owners who care about the industry take over.

What a fantastic restaurant, the menu had so much variety, all 7 of us were very happy. Lovely staff, great atmosphere we will definitely be going back there. If you haven't been get booked in... It's worth every penny.

Nice place, staff are really friendly and the pizzas are tasty. My wife had a greek salad and it was fresh! Not the Cheapest of places but very few places are currently. For 3x pizzas, a salad, 1x beavertown, 1x coke, 1 pinot = £87.67

Really nice bistro pub. Standard pub fair but with a few more interesting starters on the menu. Great service. Yes, it was a good choice for my hungry family

This is one of our favourite spots in Wallingford. Best breakfasts!! The pizza's are also really good. We have never been disappointed.

A few friends recommended this place, so we decided to give it a try. The experience started off well enough—we were seated quickly, and the restaurant wasn’t too busy. The seating was comfortable, and the coffee was decent, though nothing special. However, the meal itself left much to be desired. We ordered our food and ended up waiting nearly an hour for it to arrive. I understand that there was only one chef in the kitchen, which could explain the delay, but unfortunately, the quality of the food was disappointing. We ordered several poached eggs, and out of six, four were fully cooked through, including the yolk, which gave them an odd texture. The hash browns, although they didn’t look appetizing—they resembled a used sponge—actually tasted alright. However, paying £15 for a full English breakfast that looked and tasted like this felt excessive. We also tried the salmon avocado toast, but it was another letdown. The toast was burnt, and the avocado was stiff, clearly not ripe yet. Another aspect that could use improvement is the cleanliness and overall tidiness of the place. At one point, the waiter dropped a piece of cutlery on the floor and then placed it back on the table for customer use, which was concerning. In summary, while the restaurant has some positives, the food and attention to cleanliness need serious work. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend coming here for breakfast given our experience.

Nice relaxing environment with reasonable prices and friendly staff with speedy service. Well located and worth popping in if passing through.

Atmosphere was great. My chips were yummy but the harissa chicken burger was ok (more a 6.5 out of 10). It would have been nicer hot (it felt more Luke warm) and maybe with a salad on the side.

Very tasty food but in my opinion overpriced for the size of portions. Good atmosphere and service. Pizzas were tasty!!

Great service and atmosphere and I had a great pizza and the kids meal for my son was spot on. However my partners chicken burger was £18.95 and was a very small serving, chips were over done and the burger wasn't very nice. Please improve the portion size and the burger or reduce the price as the quality and size was not worth that price.

We were fairly disappointed with our meals, the reviews on here are very positive but our mains weren't amazing. We had a salmon starter which was lovely but the picante chicken main was dry and burnt, garlic on the potato's was also burnt and distasteful. The pork main was meh, not what we expected from a £20 main The atmosphere and drinks were nice and our waitress was very accommodating.

Amazing meals, Sunday Roast is a must.

If you're in Wallingford, this is a great place for dinner. They're not doing anything revolutionary, but they're doing solid, classics really well. We had the peri peri chicken - powerfully spicy and really tastily done. The pizzas actually looked like good neapolitan pizzas. Super friendly staff, nice family atmosphere.

We were recommended this place for breakfast. The menu did not disappoint, plenty of choice. The food was tasty, if a little over priced. Lovely setting with an open plan kitchen.

It was a quiet midday so not much going on, however it was a friendly atmosphere. Used as both a restaurant and local pub. More upmarket than your average gastro pub.

Visited with my boyfriend for date and we were both a bit surprised how quickly the food and drinks have arrived. Food was very good, nice atmosphere, a lot of choice and a buzzing atmosphere

Came here on a Friday evening to treat my mum for dinner after being in London for a while. The food was amazing, nice and hot, all three courses were perfect and the drinks were couldn't have been better! The server, Thomas was very attentive, asking if all was well and if we needed anything else etc., even giving us some amazing drinks recommendations! All in all, a lovely place for a bite to eat or for drinks for a catch up with family or friends. Atmosphere is perfect! Really happy with my experience here and definitely will be returning again when I'm in the area again!

Ok to start the eve off here, but soon move on, drinks bit pricey. Would probably stay for a 2nd round if they had a mainstream lager.

Place looks lovely but the coke I order is mainly water with a hint of coke tast.

We only went in for a couple of drinks but great place in town to go. Could smell lots of lovely food and the staff were milling around keeping everyone very happy.

Really poor meal. Went for a family meal at the weekend. Ordered meat balls to start with. They were served to me cold, I had to spit them out. When I returned them, the kitchen reheated them and served me them again with the bits I had spat out and the waiter had already touched them. I had a bad stomach for 24 hours after the meal. I also thought the service was poor and it is not somewhere I will be returning to, which is a shame because it used to be good.

Place smells of cigarettes as you enter, so bit surprised. Loud music, noisy drunken old people constantly laughing, we could not hear each other. Chefs on their mobile phones, most of the time, in full view. £3.20 for a herbal tea,! but one of those cheap tea bags, so again very surprised, wish i took one of mine. £14.50 for a full english breakfast where you get those scrawny Richmond sausages ...bargain. Be warned. I had poached egg fungi but little did I know that an extra topping (salmon) would cost shy of £4 extra, making my breakfast £16. Wish they would manage expectations. £40.10 total for 2 people having a breakfast. Rip off.sorry. -----' Having just gone to a place with a view on the river, we could have paid 50% less and my partner could have had better quality sausages. Gutted. We really have learnt for next time.

One of the best Roasts I’ve had! Really great food.

Disappointed with the vegetarian burger option which was very tasty but completely ruined by the cheese which had the texture and adhesive properties of glue. Mix up and delay with the desert. I fairness we were given a discount on pointing out the issues but it kind of took away from the experience.

First time visiting, choice of food was okay I suppose, wine and beer again okay, service could have been better, prices are higher than I would have expected,

Lovely restaurant with a wide menu. I had olives followed by the Lebanese lamb shoulder which was delicious. Service was excellent despite the restaurant being busy. I would recommend.

Really busy the day we went but didn't wait long for food. Atmosphere was nice.

Overall, this should be a 5-star review, but there is something of concern I must raise. CCTV in the toilets. I have never seen or maybe noticed CCTV in toilets located in a public house before. The camera overlooks one of the urinals as well. (One of two, the other was out of order). There are no clear signs that I noticed. Surely, this should be brought to our attention by way of a large brightly lit sign. I asked a member of staff, and they commented that it was to monitor drug use. Whilst someone is using a urinal? Surely, people who use drugs in toilets use them in cubicle, should the cameras not be monitoring activities in the cubicles? I am not sure this is a complaint with GDPR. This is something I will look into and report the business if I suspect a data breach.

I visited The Old Post Office with three friends this evening. It's obviously very popular as it was very busy at the bar when we walked in, which added to the atmosphere. We were shown to our table quickly which we had booked in advance. Tables were nicely distanced from each other, staff were polite and friendly and service was good. We didn't have a long wait for food or drinks. The restaurant was clean and there was plenty to choose from on the menu. My pizza was one of the best pizzas I've had, absolutely delicious and very filling. The toilets were upstairs and clean. I would highly recommend this restaurant, we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and look forward to visiting again.

Excellent service. But food came out immediately, so not freshly prepared for their Sunday roast. The beige chairs as you arrive look like you’re arriving in a 1980s nightclub. But apart from that it was okay. Excellent service.

Visited Wallingford with some friends. Lovely town. Found this amazing place. Perfect atmosphere, amazing service, they loved our friends dog. Food was 10 out of 10!! Delish!! Had a wood fired pizza and husband fish and chips… yum! Will be back.

Stopped for a drink on a cold wet evening Lovely and warm with a fire going and a nice bar area. After seeing some good looking food pass us on the way to the tables, we’ve now booked for dinner in a couple of weeks.

Lovely place, but way over priced. Been coming to the OPO for several years being a local lad that's moved away. Think it will be my last visit. Whilst being a popular place it's quite frankly massively over priced. While the drinks are reasonable, unless you indulge in an Espresso Martini at a tenner and containing barely any alcohol, the food is now at best worthy of half the priced charged. I really do not paying for good food and great service, but for example a Skotch egg starter, which was again a tenner but being half and egg on a bed of a few leaves is ridiculous. Likewise the shoulder of beef, consisted of a couple of spoonfuls of very lumpy mash, a single carrot cut into four and a lump of beef the size of a tennis ball, attached to a much larger lump of bone is again ludicrous. Very dissatisfied with it and really do not understand how they can justify the cost. Last visit for my family and will seek other places to eat during our family visits back home

Popped in for breakfast. Service was very good, friendly staff. Food came quickly and hot, and was very tasty. It would be nice to have the option of black pudding as it's my favourite.

While looking for the filming locations of "Midsomer Murders" and "Inspector Barnaby" we came across this lovingly designed restaurant in the old post office. The service is top. The portion of fish and chips was large and very good! Kudos to the young chef. Great restaurant, would come again!

Ordered x2 toasted Ciabatta sandwiches (x1 Aubergine & Crispy Artichoke + x1 Prosciutto Ham & Cheese). The Ciabatta was stale, the Aubergine came without any artichoke, and neither came with their accompanying side salad garnish. They also have the cheek to add a 10% service charge automatically (☹️). After complaining, we were given a partial discount 👍but, they gave a full refund onto my debit card and then took the new, reduced payment again. The refund is not immediate, so I've now paid for sub-standard food twice (until I get my refund in 3-5 working days)..... be wary!

Pretty also ran as an establishment. Friendly staff, good beer 🍺. Did not eat there but has a very extensive menu.

First visit to this restaurant, having previously stayed in the area and had heard good reviews which didn't disappoint. I ordered the sausage and mash followed by blueberry cheesecake for dessert, accompanied by rose' wine. Both meals were delicious ; my only comment would be that the main could've done with a more generous helping of gravy . However the side vegetables ( kale , peas and green beans) were tasty and the cheesecake superb Visited midweek just after the Bank Holiday. Service was friendly and efficient. Can't comment on parking as stayed nearby hence walked to the venue.

I came to visit my daughter with my sister and although the service was good and the waiting staff with the dark curly hair was really lovely the food was extremely poor and overpriced. Very disappointed and will not be eating there again

In Wallingford on business. Decided to try The Old Post Office for evening meal. Ordered pizza margarita. Shame the chef couldn’t manage to get the tomato sauce spread evenly over the base. Told the waitress hoping the chef would at least come over to apologise , but nothing!! Not even from the manager Plenty of other pizza places in Wallingford, but what a shame!!

We had a great late lunch in the pub/ restaurant having failed to find anywhere else serving food late afternoon. Great choice of 3 well kept Ales and excellent menu choice including good vegan options. The staff were excellent. Second time we've eaten here and both times were most enjoyable

Lovely restaurant, delicious food and well presented. The atmosphere was good. The staff were extremely friendly and professional, ensuring we had everything we wanted. We were most impressed that they catered for dogs, supplying our small dog with a bowl of water and treats. We will definitely return.

I've just had the best pizza I've eaten in YEARS! The Old Post Office doesn't look much from the outside but the service is swift and friendly, the beer is good...and the pizza... wow...

We were a party of 6 and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the Napoli Forte Pizza which was very tasty indeed. The atmosphere was nice if a little noisy due to the wooden floors. Service was very good. The Ukranian waitress was charming.

Vibe was good, service made several mistakes but apologized for them even before I had to say anything, so that was ok. Food was average. I love how they have on their menu what is gluten free, the main reason I choose the restaurant, but the quality wasn’t above average. The menu said some tomato’s and it had one, sliced in two. The rib eye medium was a little too far towards well done for my taste. It just didn’t deliver the value for money.
