This is probably the best village shop & tea room in Dorset. Excellent coffee, cakes & lunches at reasonable prices. Beautiful sheltered garden tea room. A warm welcome from hosts Rick & Jan - nothing is too much trouble.

I am at a loss to understand why this couple are running a shop, let alone a tea room. The shop is dark, gloomy and freezing cold. Very little stock. A wait to get anyone to man the Post Office counter, then an even longer wait to get man to find out the cost of a bottle of water. Shuffling around in track suit bottoms, bloke went upstairs then came back with a calculator. After about 5 mins a price was decided upon. No apology, just an instruction to pull my mask even further over my nose. This, in an area where there is no Covid. I left. An unpleasant experience with absolutely no redeeming features. Shop is untidy, poorly stocked and completely unwelcoming. Never again.

I found this hidden gem on my way through the little village of Fontmell Magna. I was greeted by the owners, who made me feel very welcome. I ordered a Full English breakfast which came out beautifully made, along with tea and toast ... I left very content in the knowledge, I will be visiting again for another breakfast! Thanks again x

We don’t often travel on the A350 but this time we took the route on our return from Poole. We had stopped at this village tea rooms attached to the village shop/Post Office a couple of years ago and were pleasantly surprised to find that we could get a late breakfast. It was reassuring to know that there are still tearooms like this instead of having to opt for some nondescript wayside eatery. Good breakfast and cup of coffee. Hope to call again one day.

It's on the way up from Poole ferry port, what better place to start an English day than with their full English breakfast "Sorry no black pudding" but I forgive them, the rest was a well cooked traditional breakfast with local ingredients. The shop was thriving too while I was there. They opened the cafe a little early just for me. I look forward to going back for tea and cake.

My wife and I called in for breakfast earlier this month. The dining area is at the rear of the Post Office village store so rarely seen nowadays, they offer a bed and breakfast service too. It is a very pleasant old fashioned style dining area, and the couple who run the business were polite and friendly. However the breakfasts were unremarkable, and a trifle expensive. Not outrageous, and what you might expect from such a place. Overall it was a pleasant leisurely stop, a stroll round the picturesque village was enjoyable too.

We often drive through Fontmell Magna on the way to Blandford or the coast. We saw the cafe sign and did wonder where the cafe was. We wandered through the local shop and found it at the back. We enjoyed the chicken stew and jacket potato. It was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful when asked about the area. This is one of our bests finds to date and we will be going back to try some more dishes on the menu. Have a walk around the village - it's lovely.

We held our daughters baby shower for 25 people here at the weekend, Alex put on a superb buffet and drinks (non and alcoholic). So helpful in letting us set up the room beforehand with a balloon arch and arranging a few tables. Everyone commented on what a lovely venue and how nice and friendly the staff were looking after us all afternoon. Alex and his teams award winning cocktails are a must to try,

Soup was awful, tasteless, not even a trace of leek and potato as described. Waste of money , dreadful. It was hot flour and water , like bechamel sauce only thinner.

We popped in today as our usual cafe was closed! I can see now why we don't visit the black cactus. This isn't the first time, but the two members of staff, who weren't busy dealing with lots of customers, weren't the most friendliest unfortunately. I completely understand they were writing the memo board and sorting that out, but I don't understand why they cheerfully couldn't have explained they would be with us in a minute. There were no happy faces etc. Then the flap Jack's we had weren't the best, but you win some and lose some. When it came to leaving, it was like we weren't even there. No goodbye, thanks for coming, nothing, and to reiterate, they were not busy serving customers. I'm sure many people have had great service there, but unfortunately we have not. So we won't be returning.... Shame!

We visited the Ibberton as we often do when In Dorset. It was warm, cosy, beautifully decorated for Christmas and the food was delicious. There is even a little jewellery cabinet made by a local lady and proceeds go to charity!
