I've visited The Old Fishmarket by Sankey's previously and rebooked to visit with my daughters on a Friday evening. We shared a mix of dishes, and each reflected the chef's attention to detail and knowledgeable insight into fish. Highlights for me were the Rockefeller oysters and Trout Gravadlax. I'll definitely be booking again, and I can't thank the Old Fishmarket team enough for the warm welcome and wonderful evening.

Sankeys is located the historic Pantiles of Tunbridge Wells a beautiful part of the town. This was the original Fish Market that Matthew Sankey has cleverly turned into a delightful restaurant with terrace on the pantiles. we had a selection of Oysters, Mackerel Pate and dressed crab with excellent bread made in the premises; followed by Lobster Linguini, hake gently poached on a bed of vegetable and a Dover Sole. All washed down with Sancerre and Premier Cru Chablis. The service is charming and efficient. the terrace has a huge umbrella over it with heaters. The inside restaurant which will reopen on 17 May has a fish bar where you can see the chefs cooking and high tables and chairs. i have spent many happy lunches there and can't wait to be go again.

We were booked for dinner elsewhere and were looking for somewhere for a pre-dinner drink as we were very early. A couple of other places we tried first claimed they were fully booked even with many empty tables. The Manager at the Fish Market was welcoming and helpful, even though we had explained we would not be dining. We had a glass of Kent produced sparkling wine mainly as we thought we should try local products. I brought a friend for a celebratory meal - my first trip after literally years of wanting to come! The meal was outstanding, especially the oysters (we had a selection of cooked ones) and the lobster linguine. We started off outside but when the rain started pouring down were offered a table inside, all done with great professionalism but with a friendly and light touch. Both the waiter and waitress who attended to us (we stayed a long time!) made us feel very welcome and were charming. It was also great to be able to watch the chef in action, who also was cheerful. I should add that my after dinner latte was the best coffee I've had so far in Tunbridge Wells! A memorable experience which I hope one day to enjoy again. Thank you

My husband and I booked for lunch on Friday 18 September and the food was sublime … the scallop, chorizo & pea starter together with the grilled seafood platter (mussels, lobster, prawns & clams) with side orders and another fish platter were beautifully presented, cooked and enjoyed by us enormously. The only small criticism we had was sadly we felt the two male waiters, though perfectly pleasant lacked any charm, personality or warmth though the lady serving the next table to ours seemed to have a little more rapport with a customer known to her. The Italian wine was reasonably priced and we didn't have dessert. £165.00 bill not cheap but a gorgeous lunch and we would love a restaurant like this in Chichester!

We had booked and paid our £50 reservation fee. Staff there were young and very pleasant. The food was pretty good but the prices were right up there! Moules Mariniere came in at a hefty £19... House platter in the low £30’s but if you added a crab another £30 .. ( you can buy crab at any fishmonger £6-7)..Dover sole £29 ... it’s up there! We had a very pleasant lunch (Just a main - no puds or starters) with no wine and the bill came to just under £100 .

Visited the Fishmarket, this is located in the "Pantiles" area with a number of other in/outdoor bars are restaurants. Its quiet interesting to note the different approaches different establishments take towards fulfilling best COVID practice. Sankey's is by no means a cheap dinner option and the seafood is generally excellent. My wife loves the ritual of selecting a number of different oysters! Comparing the COVID routine to other eateries, I suspect they are fulfilling them, but somehow I felt that it would have been nicer had the waiting staff been wearing some kind of protective visors/masks and or gloves as we are seeing in other establishments? How are the customer to know whether a staff member is asymptomatic and potentially able to pass something on ?

I went with my sister as a treat to Sankey's on the Pantiles at The Old Fishmarket - really prompted by the Eat Out To Help Out initiative. The two of us were greeted warmly and, when I realised that one of us would be sitting in the sun at our designated outside table, I asked to change tables which they agreed to readily. We were served well by the young waitress, Molly, and the food was delicious as was the wine. We also both had a coffee to finish off. Molly was apologetic when I pointed out that she hadn't taken off the £10 each from the bill and rectified this quickly. Sankey's is an expensive restaurant and not where we would go every day but certainly worth a visit for that special occasion. Thank you very much for a delicious lunch!

You don't go to Sankey's for cheap food and wine- you go because of the carefully sourced fish on offer and well chosen wine list. You go because you can sit at the open seafood kitchen and watch the care the chef spends preparing and cooking your dish, whilst chatting with you. You go because the front of house lady is both delightful and knowledgable. Another wonderful evening being cosseted.

I really fancied some seafood and was fairly sure this is one of the best places to visit in TW for this and they didn't disappoint. This historical small restaurant is quirky and delightful. I was not wanting to spoil my main so just had some olives but hubby went in for the sour dough bread and smoked mackerel pate and I'm glad he did. I happily went back in for an offer of seconds to try as the pate was the best I've ever had. The smokiness was not overpowering and so different from the packet supermarket flavour. Hubby had halibut and I regret not trying it but he said it was amazing. My dressed crab had a few bits of shell in it but was fresh and tasty. Likewise the side order of crevettes were delicious - firm and not watery. We had bottle of Macon Charnay which was a perfect accompaniment. We shared a brownie with butterscotch ice cream for pudding and washed it down with a few glasses of bubbly to celebrate. The staff were attentive and friendly and it all added up to a lovely memorable birthday lunch. I can't deny I did get a bit chilly towards the end of the meal but it was a very cold day.

Set in a lovely old historic building in the middle of the Pantiles, The Old Fishmarket by Sankey's is stylishly fitted out and a classy environment in which to enjoy some seafood but it wouldn't be warm or cosy in the winter methinks. I went during their oyster happy hour (3-5pm) on a Friday afternoon with a friend and her 4 year old son, to break my 'oyster virginity'. At a pound a piece, the Colchester Rock oysters were good value and I enjoyed them served with their finely cut shallots in red wine and a splash of Tobasco; they really just melted in the mouth. We polished off about 15 between us. For her son we ordered from their afternoon £15 set menu; a prawn starter and hake main course, with which I helped him out! Washed down with a couple of glasses of wine and a coffee to finish, the bill still came to about £70 including service charge. That said, I can well image that you could easily spend that per head as many of their menu's delights do come at a price. The place was very quiet when we went so service was attentive, friendly and swift. A good experience!

The atmosphere and service here is second to none. All of the staff are courteous and attentive but the Head Chef is the real asset. The title just about sums it up. If you want Oysters and/or fish it is a very good choice. Seating inside (limited) and out. More an Oyster bar that also serves some other fish options. We were all very happy with the quality of what we had, Halibut, Hake, gravadlax starter (very small serving) and bisque (very rich). Service very good. Very amenable to us having to hold the mains a while because on of the party was ill and we needed to get them home, as long as we were done by our alloted end time. Pantiles can be lovely but most of the seating is outside so you need a nice day for it to work well. Almost excellent all round just lacking something.

We ate here yesterday afternoon for Fathers Day. Myself, my partner and my 2 children aged 10 and 4. My eldest LOVES seafood and so do partner and I. My youngest won't even look at a fish. We planned to order a platter between the 3 of us and share, we did just that and it did not disappoint. it was honestly the best seafood we have ever tasted. The waiter who served us was professional, polite and very helpful arranging for my youngest to have some plain spaghetti and cheese. My only complaint would be with the manager? As we walked in I asked discreetly if my youngest could have some snacks from her lunchbox has she wont eat anything. He replied with a dead pan "No" so deadpan I genuinely thought he was joking and laughed! I asked if he was serious. He replied again with a dead pan "No" shook his head and walked off, leaving me standing there dumb struck until I realized he wasn't trying to be funny! He was well within his rights to say no, but the way he did it was so rude! He could of quite simple said sorry no and explained why and offered her the pasta as did our waiter. He made me feel like something he stepped in and if it wasn't the fact we were held to ransom by the cancellation deposit I would of turned around and walked us all out of there. Its a shame he put such a bad taste in our mouths before we ate. But like I said the food was to die for. Thank you so much to the chefs they do an amazing job. If you eat here you will not be disappointed with the food.

Wonderful service. I'm lactose intolerant and felt really well catered for. My family are regulars and have never had anything but a fantastic meal.

This was our first but not last visit. Service and food exceptional. Small dining room but full of atmosphere. Lobster and Skate wing were prepared to perfection, drinks and service faultless. We will definitely be making a return visit to try more from the menu.

I have being this place with my friend who visited me and like sea food. We went in there and it is nicely designed place nicely made menu but it is very expensive. We ended up paying 112 pound. Service was also good.

Had a late lunch with friends, never been here before but was pleasantly surprised at the standard of the food. We had octopus salad, oysters and sea trout for starters ...all beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Then we had hake and mussel linguine ...again tasted delicious. We even had desert of ice cream with almonds , ameriti and expresso poured over it...again tasted fantastic. Bit pricey but well worth it and the waiter could have been a bit more friendly! But would definitely go back.

An amazing set up with one or two staff and one chef who cooks everything in full view in the restaurant. The dishes are simple but the quality is first class. Watching the chef work from the counter seats is entertainment in itself. The fish is so fresh and I didn't realise there were so many different oyster options.

I have been coming to Sankeys since the 1980’s when your lobster tank was in the basement of the Mt Ephraim location! I have continued throughout the years to frequent a place that has always been welcoming and where the food has been good. My partner made a reservation last night for dinner for us at the fish market in The Pantiles. I was concerned to see that because of how your clientele treat you, you now feel it necessary to charge £25 per head to cancel. This penalising everyone, even those with a genuine reasons to cancel AND who have the decency to let you know. However, I wasn’t concerned as we were looking forward to dining with you. Unfortunately we have had a family emergency today and have had to phone the restaurant to cancel our table. I spoke to the manager apparently, who just said that’s fine but he would be charging the £50. I asked him how when we booked the table with less than 24 hrs notice it was fair to do this when we then don’t have the option of cancelling without being charged. He said he was just following orders.

I went to Sankey's in the Pantiles (19th April 2019) with my family for an evening meal. It was Lovely, even though i am Vegetarian. As i was Vegetarian they made me up Pasta, that was Delicious. The Rest of my Family are fish eaters, and its there favorite fish restaurant. Every-time we go there they enjoy the Meal. The Chefs are Brilliant, as they make the food literally next to you, and you can talk to them if you want to change something in your meal. I definitely recommend it.

On a cold wet thursday Afternoon noon the restaurant was expectedly quiet but the two staff were helpful and pleasant The crab and lobster were incredibly fresh and succulent and went well with the Mâcon. Cant really fault. Well worth a visit.

Saturday lunch, simply stunning. Irish oysters, very fresh, lobster crab bisque, rich and creamy, scallops, smooth and smokey, and the mackerel fillets on peas and samphire, fresh, hot and rich. Washed down with some Picpoul, perfection.

Been here a few times and my last most recent visit was with my little girl, both big oyster fans. The service is always smart and spot on, food is always amazing cannot fault it. The only thing I would say is that it’s a little chilly inside during winter as the decor has also got that cold feel to it, but prefect in the summer evening sitting outside.
