We booked a table for my granddaughter's 10th birthday today, 4 adults & 2 children never been before, on arrival we were greeted by a lovely barman ( sorry never got his name) were shown to our reserved table and because the weather was quite warm my 2 granddaughters wanted to play outside so we could watch them we moved outside and a lovely waitress came to take our order, the food was amazing even the birthday girl who never eats a full mean ate every scrap, unfortunately it started to rain so we had to move inside again, Thankyou to everyone who never made us feel bad for swapping tables so often, we will definatly be back and can highly recommend not just for excellent food but very welcoming staff....

A good find. Beer and food is served at your table. Our waitress was Chloe. She was really clued up and provided excellent service. We were there on a Monday when they had 3 specials available which included a drink (beer, lager or wine) for less than £10. The meal choice was scampi and chips, veggie balti or chicken masala. All home cooked and well portioned. Highly recommend.

Went here for a meal with my brother. Amazing food - we had their ham egg and chips (best pub chips I’ve had for years, plus the ham was off the bone and amazing) and also their pork belly dish - tasted great and portion so generous I didn’t need dinner later. Definitely recommended. Will certainly come back. Thank you!

If you’re looking for a place where good food, great service, and a parking spot that doesn’t involve a parallel parking nightmare come together, The Old Elm Inn in Churchdown is your new best friend. Tucked away in a corner of Gloucester where the sheep outnumber the people (probably), this charming inn serves up meals that will have you questioning whether you accidentally wandered into a 5-star restaurant. The food is so good, even my picky Uncle Bob, who once sent back toast for being too 'bready,' left satisfied. The service? Let’s just say it’s like being greeted by an old friend who somehow knows exactly how you like your tea and who doesn’t judge you for ordering extra chips. They’re friendly, attentive, and manage to make you feel at home, without the awkward small talk about the weather. As for the parking situation – there’s free parking right across the street! And let’s be honest, in the UK, finding free parking feels a bit like finding a unicorn. So, if you’re in the area and fancy a meal that will leave both your stomach and your sense of humor satisfied, swing by The Old Elm Inn. Just be warned, you might leave with a food baby and a weirdly strong desire to move to Churchdown.

Arrived to a deserted garden with parasols only in dilapidated garden benches, we had 3 children with us and 3 adults I moved a parasol to a larger table. We were greeted by the publican shouting ‘what the hell are you doing?’ I explained the situation, he took the parasol and put it back in the table too small for our party and marched off. This set the tone for our visit. The atmosphere was hostile from our greeting to the sign in the play area stating that if children are too noisy they will close the play area. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon during the summer holiday and people were on edge. Food was mediocre. Rest of the staff seemed ok, although, one of the many chalkboards stated it was table service but we were sent inside to get our cutlery etc despite the staff walking past it at least 4 times to come out to us. Carpets inside are next level dirty and inside smelt like a public loo.

This place was ok. Very very busy on Friday evening. The pub is looking a bit tired and could do with a refurb. Large menu choices. I had the cheeseburger. It was just ok. Not the worst. Not the best. However if you want to go out for a quiet drink this is not the place. Kids were running around everywhere. To be fair it’s very family friendly with a beer garden and a small playground area for the kids to play. Just not the place for us.

This is a nice 'village ish' pub with an impressive range of well kept ales. Food can be variable, often very good but sometimes poor. They operate more as a restaurant than a pub (table service, can't stand in bar) which I personally find annoying when you just want a quick pint.

What a great pub. The food is locally sourced, they do themed nights like burger nights or curry and quiz. They serve drinks table service. They do a quiz on a Thursday evening which is tough but fun and it really is one to try Sunday lunch is very popular with a range of meat options and vegetarian too. The ambience of the pub is really very nice, there is parking outside and the cleanliness of the pub is servings to non. Revisited on the 21st had a couple of nice beers. Allergen training is basically non existent. You may really end up killing someone. Ordered the chicken sandwiches, which lists all the ingredients: chicken, bacon, lettuce tomato. However what it doesn’t say is that it comes absolutely smothered in mayonnaise. I have a serious egg allergy so had to send back the sandwich but was made to feel it was my fault for not checking first because “all sandwiches come standard with mayo”. I read the ingredient list from the menu and it doesn’t say anywhere that it comes with mayonnaise!

We have been long time customers of the Old Elm inn; however, we moved to Bristol and therefore away from the area. We wanted to come back for the Christmas quiz and booked a table for 8, months in advance and called up on the day to make sure everything was OK. We were told everything was fine; however, we were now booked in on a 4 seater table, rather than 8 which would have been a disaster if my parents hadn't needed to cancel owing to having the flu. We turned up and we were informed they were overbooked and that our table (a table for 4 not 8) was to be one of the bar tables for watching the sport, far away from the pub quiz section which would have been inaudible from our seats. We were quite rightly very upset as we had driven an hour to be there and this had interrupted our son's sleep routine (who woke up from the pram owing to the commotion and noise of the sports TV). Matt, the quiz organiser, was dismissive and made no effort to accommodate us. It in fact seemed premeditated, we are long time attendees of the quiz and have never complained or made trouble and it appeared to be the case that the inn had downsized our table and tucked us out of the way so they could make room for two more teams. Matt showed us some fake texts that he had supposedly sent to a ten digit number similar to our own in an attempt to try and excuse their behaviour, however his phone service would have immediately told him that the messages could not be delivered. If they really wanted to contact us they would have reached out to us on Facebook as we have been in the quiz hundreds of times in the past, winning on several occasions with our photo and profiles on the inn's page, which the inn is more than aware of. Completely unacceptable given the amount of time we spent driving there and back, the amount of money we spent on petrol and the disappointment of not being in the quiz. There is no loyalty to returning customers and this is not the first time we have found Matt rude and dismissive of our team.

Felt compelled to write a review after reading some others and having now visited the Old Elm. We aren't local and picked the pub purely on location. The food was delicious and in generous portions. All the good signs were there; proper steak knives, vegetables cooked with bite, an interesting range of vegetables, incredible crackling on the pork roast, plenty of stuff on the walls to look at and every seat was filled. The play area out the back was a bonus, as was the colouring and books made available for children. The ambience was friendly, staff went out of their way to help us. Service was prompt whilst not making us feel rushed, even though they were clearly very busy. The children's meal portion was huge and it was carefully double wrapped in foil when I asked if we could take the leftovers home. Overall, we were all impressed and I would absolutely recommend!

Several rude staff and owner unbelievably rude and aggressive to many customers not just me! Checking back here 5 months later it appears that some of my review has been deleted! My experience was awful when I defended the rude behaviour of staff and the Publican when six other customers were denied their dessert after spending a huge amount on their meals. There was almost a physical fight with the owner - if he is the owner! They were told that they had run out ot desserts but a waitress had told them the staff and owner/manager were playing in the quiz! They have favourites at this pub. It's dirty - the chairs, the carpets and in general not a nice place to go. The locals don't have much choice in the village as it is the only pub there in the old part of Churchdown. Shocking behaviour...even the teenagers behave with more etiquette!

Despite having a vegan specials night once a week the regular menu is a bit scarce for vegan options with no readily available allergy information. Ordered the vegan roast, they brought out a veggie one, I realised because it had cauliflower cheese on the plate. Asked for it to be changed and it was, very quickly, but these sorts of mistakes should be avoided.

On street parking reasonably close by, very dogfriendly, with a great and varied menu which suited my vegetarian partner. We both had the all day breakfast, mine meaty and my partner’s veggie, which was not just fantastically cooked in the oven, but very reasonably priced with large portions…we were going to have one of the many lovely specials as a dessert but were simply too full. The decor and theme were interesting, the music was a reasonable volume and entirely to our liking (jazz), and the service was friendly and spot on. I cannot recommend this place too much. Our only disappointment was that we discovered it on the last day of our holiday, if we come back to Tewky, we will definitely return to this wonderful café.
