The Old Chippy in County Durham

My favourite chippy! Food is cooked to order and is always so fresh and delicious. Absolutely love the staff too, always so friendly and energetic! Music videos while you wait - love it!

First timei visited here after reading the reviews. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. The fish was cooked while I waited. Very tasty fish and chips. Better than my local chip shop up the road. Definitely return hete again

we were in the area visiting a friend and decided to have fish and chips.. we had to wait a while as the fish is cooked to order, staff friendly and bantering with the customers, one way in and out, fish and chips were absolutely lovely... they do deliveries too.

Usually fantastic fish and chips, tonight not so. 3 Fish all with soggy batter, 1 of which was grey. Chips tasted really oily. Guessing the oil not hot enough to fry. Both the batter and chips had an awful aftertaste. A waste of money and waste of food that went from the fryer to the bin!!

wondered what the food was like so called in.there was fish ready so chose that to save time.it was ok.reasonable sized portion of fish but had I waited for a smaller one I may have been disappointed.as £6 30 seemed dear for what there was.the chips were nice but not very hot.the batter was not crisp and therefore spoiled the meal.if I return I will ask for a fish to be fried for longer

This serves traditional fish and chips. They are well cooked crisp batter and plenty in a portion. Very obliging with smaller portions to suit small appetites and free local delivery

This is one of the best fish shops around our area. Dave always buys really good quality white fish and cooks fresh to order. People come from miles away as such good quality..delivery service aswell.

Nice freshly cooked fish and chips they also offer a delivery service staff friendly they also do pizza soft drinks and a good size car park on the front of the shop

Having been using this chippy since it opened and have only ever had great food. The staff are very friendly.

We stopped going here a few years ago when it was under different owners, had gone downhill very fast, tried again a while ago and now go regularly. Miles better than it was and can't really fault it. Hopefully they won't start scrimping and cutting portion sizes down.... We'll keep going as long as it stays as it is.

This is our favourite fish and chip takeaway. Excellently clean in all areas, staff are very pleasant and friendly and the food has always been very good. We notice people in previous comments saying the chips are not good, only twice in our many visits have they not been good and we would put that down to the potatoes not the way they were cooked. No doubt about it, we will be back

Previous owners of this business had built a good reputation for serving excellent fish and chips. Unfortunately, the new owners have left that reputation in tatters, with the food that is currently being served. We hadn't visited since the change of ownership and found tonight's offering dreadful. Whilst the fish had been freshly cooked, both quality and quantity was very poor. The fish fillet was only about 1/4" thick beneath the batter and the small number of chips were over cooked. I'm not sure what fat/oil they cook in, but it left an unpleasant aftertaste. Needless to say we won't be returning any time soon.

Visited on a Saturday night. Whilst the service was excellent and the place immaculate. However, the food wasn't so great. Fish and sausage were fine but seeing as this is called a chippy you would expect good chips. But they were seemingly half cooked as they were hard in the middle and just to much grease. I won't be going back.

As we have just moved to the area you will in the coming months see several reviews of new eateries that we have never tried before with this being one of those places. It is on a busy main road with some off street parking but not many parking spaces and the car park can be a little tight to get in and out of when busy. One small negative with lots of positives. It has to be one of the most immaculate fish and chip shops we have ever frequented with everything absolutely spotless - so much so you would not believe food was cooked here - so first impressions were excellent. The service is polite and efficient with the staff all being extremely courteous unlike some other fish and chip shops we have visited so another tick in the box. The food is not cheap and probably amongst the most expensive fish and chips we have had but in my opinion worth it as my philosophy is I will always pay more for quality and that is what you get here. It really is one of the nicest fish and chip shops we have visited and we have already been back and sampled the same exacting customer service and quality of food. So a big tick in the box and this is now on our regular list - so well done to all concerned as I am a convert to the "Old Chippy" our new local fish and chip shop.

We have never experienced fish & chips as poor as today. Batter on fish was soggy, the fish was poor quality, the fish was grey not white like what you would expect. Chips were also soggy and tasteless.

Puedo, sin duda alguna, recomiendo esta para llevar!
