I've been going here for years but sadly no more Last 3 time the quality has gone down along with the price going up Yesterday was my last time I bought 2 fish and chips and they were inedible absolutely disgusting Everything had a weird taste the chips were soggy and the batter on the fish was even worse Sadly the whole lot went in the bin after 2 mouth fulls Worst £19 I've ever spent

Best fish/sausage and chips I’ve had in years

First visit and will be my last! I bought sausage and chips with curry sauce times two for me and my friend , the chips were burly cooked anaemic white, the curry sauce was like yellow water with no taste , when the curry sauce was added to the chips the chips turned to mush so they have lost a customer won’t be going back.

We love going to Clem's Fish shop staff are warm friendly service is brilliant and the food comes to your table hot warm plates they go above and beyond to serve the customers with respect

Good quick service and usual the fish & chips excellent value for the money and always tasty.

I remember when this was a good fish shop, I can understand the prices going up but not the quality going down. Expensive yet average.

The staff are very friendly, It's very clean and tidy & well worth the money, I would highly recommend visiting this place.

Ordered a chinese takeaway delivery and our chips came black/green. We complained to the restaurant and the manager was horrible to us and refused to admit the chips were dodgy, she was extremely difficult on the phone for 20 minutes claiming the chips were fresh. We sent her a photo to her whatsapp after she finally allowed us to show her. She continued to deny and refused a refund or any compensation. Awful service, don’t recommend at all!

Usually like it here but the spam fritter today was a bit of a joke. Wish I was as slim as it. Photo on the right is my usual fish shop's spam fritter.

Ordered large fish and chips with scraps - fish was tiny, didn’t get the scraps and the curry sauce was very watery. Wouldn’t order again.

Lush the best fish and chips I've had for ages and excellent value for money too

The place and staff are lovely, the food didn't got that well to be honest, the Kebab was like rubber. The chips are ok, prices abit much for portion size.

I have gone to this restaurant since the early 1970s with friends and family and have always been highly satisfied. I went in today with my nephew at 11. 30 expecting fresh hot food. The chips were served on a tea plate instead of the usual dinner size plate and the curry was watery . The chips tasted as if they had been reheated from the previous evening but were still cold. I requested a fresh plate which the waitress brought, but with no apology and no offer to exchange my nephews. I bought fish chips and peas for my nephew and chips and curry for myself alo g with 2 bread buns and 2 bottles of coca cola. This cost me over £26. The price was not the issue but the quality of the food and portion size was. Sad to say but after 50 years I won't be going back.

Best chips I've ever had, perfectly cooked . The staff are friendly, and very pleasant, and you can pay by card. I think I paid £3.20 for a portion of chips. Would have been five stars however one of the staff fed a dog outside the chip shop didnt wash their hands and continued serving customers. Will defo be back.

The staff never listen and mess the orders up. I found a long blonde hair in my food when I got home, I'll never eat there again.

I used to go regularly to the Chester-Le-Street branch of Clems whenever I was visiting the area, and was sad that it had to close. However, I can and will always make a beeline for the original Spennymoor restaurant now - the same friendly service and just the best fish and chips in the world! Thank you!

Stunningly good fish and chips at a proper bargain price. Was a group 11 of us and all of us thouroughly enjoyed our food. Batter crispy and tasty, lovely flakey white cod. Chips cooked spot on which is a rarity nowadays. Highly recommended!

Phoned ahead to check they had scampi. Friendly lady took my order and said they'd put it in to cook. Place was very busy even midweek. Staff were all really friendly, helpful and happy. We went for a takeaway but the restaurant looked busy too. Food was very nice. Not the cheapest but not too expensive. Portion size is good. Chips were very nice. Fish was good though could have been a little crisper. Spam fritters were very good. Gravy was weak. Scampi very nice and a decent portion too All in all I'd definitely recommend Clems and will be back.

Food was GOOD, service was GOOD, Atmosphere was GOOD. Staff were good and made me welcome, The fish and chips were a good size and tasted great. Even cleaned the table which looked clean again b4 I ate. Plus music in the restaurant I would recommend.

Probably quicker to fry your own 7 pm nothing ready could of made a Sunday roast quicker get stuff ready people don't want to be waiting 20 mins for chips plan ahead

Best fish and chip shop in County Durham for a long time now. Regular visitor, quality of food excellent and consistent at every visit. Staff very polite and helpful. Gets very busy at times but always have plenty of staff to cope. Highly recommend this establishment.

My hubby and I were staying in a nearby hotel and decided to try Clem's Fish Restaurant for our tea. It was a great choice!!! Warm welcome, friendly staff, lovely food (big portions), immaculately clean restaurant and good covid measures of socially distant seating, staff wearing visors, lots of sanitising etc. Would certainly visit again if in the area.

This is my preferred fish shop the staff are nice and friendly, the chips are always good there's always scrapings if wanted and the fish is always fried correctly and the oil used is never old and dirty, keep up the good work

Very disappointed tonight. Its our fave chippy usually. Not any more. Chips just say cooked, fish small (asked for large) and soggy batter. Peas were like stones. Asked my order 5-6times, got it wrong after telling them over and over my order, had to go back and get the chips added to my fish. Maybe just a bad night but honestly the food was really off putting so we won't be back.

Food was not up to standard, curry sauce was watery, they obviously watered it down for good Friday! Not good practice and the potions where half what we have had before, defiantly scrimping on the chips hardly got any for the price I paid!! Won’t be going back...

Good Friday Meal! We always go to Clems at spennymoor for fish and chips at least once a week. This afternoon I got fish and chips twice with Mushy peas. The fish was nice, there was hardly any chips to the portions we normally get and the mushy peas are normally the best, but today the mushy peas were watery and tasteless! Was really disappointed with my meal today .... think today was rushed with it being good Friday. It will be a while till we go back again!

Lovely food and service. Completely forgot to book a table but luckily they were accommodating and offered us a free one. Nice and clean and food was hot when arrived. Lovely coffee too

For me without a doubt the best chippy around we come from Thornaby but think the 50 mile round trip is well worth it, the cod and chips are fantastic and the staff are as friendly as you will find anywhere.Well done Clems cant wait to come back !!

Been loads for both takeaways and sit in. Food always Good and staff always friendly and polite wife is coeliac and they always manage rondo gluten free option.

I was eating my 9.5 chicken nuggets when a strange charver came up to me and ask me “ewwww mush fancy gis en Es a bite of ya scran dos” I said beware I have pepper spray of course I was only joking I had much more the chav backed of and I later continued to munch down the chicken till it was no chicken then I found out there was a tooth in my nugget I cried my self to sleep coz me wife is tryna get me healthy and now we split up coz I told her this story and she left me coz nuggets have 64000 calories in them bad bois

One of Clems fish and chips restaurants and takeaways. I've visited and eaten in three of their establishments. The same high standard and super taste of their fish and chips are exactly the same. If you want a good tasty fish and chips with crisp batter you can do no better..

Very good staff very pleasant no complaints

Having decided to get fish and chips I decided to give the well known Clems a go in my new home town. All of this having just moved. As I walked though the door (2nd in line to a man who looked to be passing the day chatting with staff) I was met by a young man on the till. He looked keen but was obviously flustered. His sole job was to take the order and grab your money. After which he lined up the receipts on the till. Throughout there after he would pick them up and move them around. I ordered a jumbo sausage with chips and being informed that a jumbo would take some time I was offered 2 small sausages if I wanted it quicker. I elected for the latter. The place proceeded to fill up fast with at least another 4 people coming in. It became apparent that the young lad at the till had one job and that was to get the orders and line them up. Communication after this seemed to fail. It is off note that the last woman that came through the door was well known by the staff. She gets greeted well, places her order which promptly gets chucked in the frier. Within minutes her order is prepped and she is getting it boxed up. At this point having waited some 15 minutes for 2 sausages to fry the bloke who came in after me proceeds to be offered the 2 sausages that I had cooked. Round about now and having been polite and patient for quite some time I found myself having to ask the staff if they operated an ordering system or did it depend on if they knew the person coming in. I was then asked if I had made my order?????? I replied yes and was then informed that the reason my order was taking some time was because my sausages were in the frier. At this point I identified, " surely not as you were just about to give my sausages to the bloke that came in after me". Ladies/gent a good Army term I learnt in my 32 years of service was less speed and more haste! Also prior preparation and planning prevents .... poor performance. Sadly a lovely night was spoilt by ineptly controlled orders. I wanted to make my order and be dealt with in line. At one point I thought I would be making professional waiting as my new career as people entered and continually proceeded to jump my order.
