Popped in after today for Tammy's birthday, as usual a warm welcome off the staff who are all lovely, welcoming, just opened so our scones were warm, delicious as always, but the special touch, which overwhelmed me was all the staff came out to my wife with candles in a massive slab of victoria sponge and a card singing happy birthday, nowhere else would you get that, that special touch which either of us will never forget. Just amazing, which makes this little gem in the beacons amazing.

I think we maybe turned up just before closing. We'd already walked 9 miles and were desperate for tea and the toilet. We had a cream tea which was very nice and the young woman serving was polite. The toilet offered six different soap dispensers which made me laugh. You can pay cash only. Poor wi-fi means this is the case in many such places hereabouts. We did not like the other tables being cleaned with copious amounts of furniture polish while we ate. It smelt sickly and spoilt the taste of what had been nice scones. Lovely setting, nice little business but lacking finesse.

Pen Y Big / Pen Y Fan / Pen Y Scran - in that order 🤌🏼 Waltzed around the horseshoe trail from the Taf Fechan Forest car park (c. 11 miles), taking just over 3 hours. Completely drained and dreading the drive back through Merthyr for some scran until I remembered I went past the tea room 1000m before the car park. Boshhhh! Walked in, found a table and plumped for the Old Barn Special for £10. Changed the tea for coffee and inhaled it all within 7 minutes. Everyone who works there are happy and look like they throughly enjoy their lives. As I lashed on the jam on top of my scone all of my troubles were momentarily cured. The enchanting tunes and sound of tea cups clinking as merry Welsh ladies potter about… oh just take me back. Do not miss this place when you’re in town!

Our group of six visited on a very wet Sunday afternoon. Between us, we ordered a wide range of items e.g. soup, sandwiches, beans on toast cakes and scones. Service was prompt and efficient and overall, the food was of good quality. I imagine it depends on personal taste, but the group's views of the homemade scones were mixed. Some thought they were just right whilst others thought they were a bit heavy/stodgy. Overall though, a pleasant experience.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Absolutely 5 star. We booked in as we were due to go on a rally day but unfortunately this was cancelled. So we decided to still go and enjoy a night away at the hotel. The hotel and our room was absolutely spotless. The bed was very comfy the room lovely and warm, bathroom and bedroom spotlessly clean. The hosts were so welcoming and so helpful. The food, drink and log fire in the restaurant was amazing. If you are ever near Knighton this IS THE hotel to stay at. Very highly recommended. We can't wait to go back ❤️
