MORE AT TripAdvisor

The Old Bakehouse is situated right in the centre of historic Farndon not far from Chester and the A41. It’s a quirky and extremely interesting building with a modern annexe - all cleverly developed in keeping with the original building. The B&B rooms are in the original building overlooking the quiet High St and we had the double room with en suite - this had a bay sitting area making the room very spacious. Everywhere was spotlessly clean with a roomy and modern bathroom ensuite . Guest parking is off road in front of the building with your car visible from your room. We were met by a very welcoming Hilary and as it was relatively late we went straight to our room for the night. Hilary has two small dogs but they were no problem and we only really were aware of them in the morning when leaving. Before then we were treated to a superb cooked breakfast in what must be one of the most special dining areas in any B&B anywhere - overlooking the High St and oak beamed it invited photos and made for an even more satisfying breakfast. The walls throughout are hung with tasteful artwork and historic photos and items adding to the experience. We saw a No5 bus to Chester which stopped outside so the Old Bakehouse could be a great base for visiting Chester without hassle. The village itself has a long and important history particularly being on the border with Wales and there’s a fulsome description of its past in the guest book in your room. Just over the River Dee a few hundred yards away you are in Wales and in the sister village of Holt - between the two villages there are post offices, shops and plenty of places to eat all within walking distance - whats not to like? We thoroughly enjoyed our regrettably short stay there and feel certain we will return at some point.

Only two, delightful rooms here in the centre of Farndon village but they are both very, very nice! The welcome from Hilary is very sincere and professional and the breakfast choice excellent, too. Certainly recommended as a convenient and pleasant place to stay. Note, credit cards not accepted.

We were due to stop here in our campervan overnight (EHU available with a 3 pin adaptor) but got flooded in at the previous site at New Years! So as the landlord was so lovely with us on the phone, we decided to at least call in on our way home and have lunch instead! The food was fabulous, very large portions and the owners are as lovely as they are on the phone!! There is so much going on here - live music, Burns night at the end of the month, folk events, car boots weather permitting and books and board games inhouse to borrow - this place is a little gem and well worth a visit! Dogs are not just tolerated but actively welcomed with spare doggy blankets and a hamper full of doggy treats to purchase at really reasonable prices! We will most definitely be back to this lovely place and bring as many friends as we can, this establishment deserves to do well!

Waiter excellent. Food better. One of the most flavoursome breakfasts I’ve ever had. Cortado very good. Would be nice to sit outside (if weather was nicer).
