A delightful location in a delightful village… but looks can be deceptive. Step inside and the greeting is terribly rude and unwelcoming. I wouldn’t venture in there again.

We've visited three times over the last couple of months. I've had something different each time and it's been delicious every time. A special shoutout for the pulled pork burger, though, with that tangy barbecue sauce and spicy bite of the jalapenos on top. A fantastic meal. I love that they highlight the farms and areas where their ingredients come from as well.

I had a meal here with 7 of my friends last night. We sat in the garden room which was perfect for a little gathering. The restaurant was really busy which is lovely to see and even though we weren’t in the main restaurant we were not forgotten. The staff were very good and looked after us extremely well. The food was presented beautifully and was fresh and very tasty. All in all everything about the place just worked and it was everything I hoped it would be - Thank You for great service in a relaxed atmosphere and a lovely evening xx

Excellent food but let down by slow service - I ate there for three nights during a business trip and waited an age on each occasion for the meal to be served. Was worth the wait when it arrived however.

We were visiting a relative at the community hospital on Tuesday of this week and wanted to have a meal afterwards. Very friendly welcome from the staff, pleasant seat near the window and excellent food. I had small rump steak and chips, my husband had one of the specials for the evening of roast duck breast. My steak was served "blue" as requested and the chips were totally delicious as was the stilton sauce ordered as an extra. My husband loved the duck with a selection of nicely cooked vegetables. We both had an Eton Mess for sweet - huge, but one of the best I've eaten. All in all an excellent meal. Only slight criticism, and it is slight, the sweet took nearly half an hour to arrive, however, the restaurant was very busy and I suppose that is the price you pay when the food is prepared to order. Liked it so much that we have booked in for tonight and am sure hat it will be just as enjoyable.

We were visiting the village and called into the pub for lunch. We had wholetail scampi, which came with chips, peas and tartar sauce (tasted home made), ordered side of salad (good size) lamb curry and a New Yorker. We were also offered a free desert with a choice of three things, two had Apple pear crumble and one had the chocolate parfait. Food was lovely and plenty of it. The chips were quite a pale colour but were cooked. We had a very enjoyable meal. For the three people with a drink each, Coke, coffee and half a cider £39 If visiting the area again we would certainly call in there. We were met with a lovely and friendly welcome. Several dishes available were gluten free

Popped in Sunday evening for a meal. Restaurant was empty and we were asked if we had reserved. Said no - and there was a pause whilst it was worked out whether they could fit us in... Eventually a table was laid up for us (despite there being 6 other tables already laid up) and the menu was rattled off to us verbally whilst we were trying to sit down and get ourselves comfortable. Staff member went away and then came back almost immediately to see if we were ready to order. We asked for a menu to be told they only run a limited menu on Sunday and did we want to hear it again. She then rattled through the options at break-neck speed. We placed our order and our drinks were brought over quickly. When the food came out, it was plentiful, hot and tasty. The sides of fresh veg were served in separate dishes so you could help yourself to as much or as little as you wanted. Dessert menu was just 3 items, and none of us fancied anything, so we settled the bill and left. During the entire time we were sat down, only 1 other small party came in - so not sure why there was the uncertainty over whether we could be 'fitted in'. Food was good, though the 'frosty' welcome means I'm not sure I'll be back in a hurry...

The food was excellent. We ate on St Patrick's night when they had a special menu, however, the general menu also looked very good and came complete with details of all different ingrediants to make it easy for any allergy sufferers. Would certainly go there again.

We decided to try the bakehouse as we had eaten there a while ago and we often use the adjoining Brewers Arms. The restaurant was nicely decked out for the occasion and we were shown to our table and it all looked very good. It was a set menu choice (as many are for valentines) but it was a good selection in our opinion. I had the a starter which was of more than ample proportion, well presented and very tasty. I chose the 5 spiced duck served on a potato cake and my wife had the rack of lamb which both came with a good selection of veg. Again good sized portions and very tasty. We had a more drinks brought to our table before our sweet. I plumped for the cheese board (and it was on a board!) My wife had strawberry based desert which she said was delicious. My cheese board was more than ample and again very tasty. I would like to thank and congratulate Nikki and her staff for there attention to detail and all in all good value for money. A lovely evening in great surroundings

The specials look like someone with some culinary ability has been involved. The traditional pub grub appears to be left to the work experience. While the staff are attentive, the woman in charge has all the warmth and hospitality of a prison warden. Portions are large but quantity does not equal quality. Unfortunately there is no other choice in this old fashioned but charming village.

Belly of pork is the star in the excellent menu. We just have to keep coming back. All topped off with great gluten free choice for pudding and friendly service and its a real winner. Only small gripe is lack of local cider-Perry's and Burrow Hill are just down the road and would have expected more choice seeing as the pub is CAMRA pub for 2016 but all round a real find

This is the part where visitors can enjoy a more formal, sit-down dining experience. Sourced from the same kitchens as the Brewers Arms the food is excellent and is an excellent choice if you have longer to savour the food. Strongly recommended.

We had planned just to have a bar snack but at 6pm the bar was already full as there was football on. We were therefore offered a table in the restaurant. This is simple but nicely decorated and set out, very warm with a fire and very comfy. The menu has a good range of choices and there are also specials. Prices are reasonable. We only had a main each as we were short of time as we were going to a concert in the local David Hall - but starts and desserts both looked tempting. There was a good range of local beers on offer too. We couldn't fault either the food or the charming service from both the waitresses.

Centrally located in the very pleasant village of South Petherton, this restaurant is fairly local to us. We have eaten here a few times and, except for one occasion, have found it excellent in terms of value, food and service. Under shared ownership with the Brewers Arms pub next door, the menu offered is extensive with a specials board every night and special meal deals on certain days. A reasonably priced wine list and a good selection of real ales are also available. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the ambiance is good. The only occasion when we were not satisfied was when there was a large party of guests dining, I think this may have overwhelmed the kitchen and the staff, the result was that meal and service were well below their normal standard. The last time we visited was a few days ago, it is pleasing to report that the food and service were both exceptional in all respects, in fact it was one of the tastiest meals I’ve ever had. The Old Bakehouse is highly recommended and we shall certainly be eating their again soon.

Having read some bad reviews about The Old Bakehouse, it was with some trepidation that we decided to eat here, on the first night of our 4 night stay in the villiage. The plan was to eat here for the first night, and then go elsewhere, once we'd had a chance to look around.HOWEVER, the food and service were SOOOO good here, that we chose to eat here every night of our stay. Each night we had something different, and each night we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent, Tues/Weds nights are Surf and Turf nights, with 2 steaks, or 2 fish and chips, or 1 of each plus a bottle of wine, all for £22.50. Thurs was Curry night, and Friday Fish night, but the normal menu was also available every night.Every night it was busy, with the staff working really hard. My husband and I couldn't fault anything about The Old Bakehouse, but a word of warning, to be sure of getting a table, then you do need to book.

We had soup and a main- soup was lovely taste and hot. The main menu had quite a choice and there was also a specials board so there was something to suit all. It is a large place but we were sitting next to the coffee machine which had broken so they were trying to fix it all the time we were eating - the noise of the grinders (for two hours!!) was wearing. We should have said something really - our fault for not doing so but they needed to get it fixed for the following day as they had a large funeral party to cater for and that had to take precedence. Other than that it was fine. Prices were reasonable, it was clean and staff were friendly

I've lived in the village now for nearly a year - and right from our very first trip to the pub we were absolutely shocked by the rudeness of one particular member of staff. The others aren't much better - they clearly all hate their jobs, and can't wait to get people out as fast as possible. The food is mediocre at best, and it's so desperately sad that the only pub in this lovely village is tainted by this rudeness. I have never in all my years (most of them spent in rough parts of large towns) encountered such utter bad service and rudeness in a customer service role. We relented and attempted to give them one final chance this week, and they were ruder than ever before. It genuinely feels like they don't want any customers.

Visited this restaurant for a Sunday lunch. It felt as though the staff were in a hurry to serve us and get us out again as quickly as possible. The Sunday menu was reeled off to us verbally and within a couple of minutes we were asked if we were ready to order. I had to ask for the normal bar menu as I have eaten here in the past and knew that it was possible to choose from this menu in addition to the sunday lunch choices. However, we opted for a sunday roast. The food appeared within 5 minutes, far too quickly I thought. The vegetables were nicely cooked but the meat was somewhat tough to cut, the roast potatoes pale in colour and the Yorkshire pudding a little soggy. I have eaten here in the past, admittedly a few years ago, and the food was very good. Regrettably, this is not now the case and I know friends have thought the same and no longer eat here. The staff need to realise that most people do not want to be rushed through a meal.

The Old Bakehouse is attached to The Brewers Arms in South Petherton. You will receive a warm welcome, the menus are wide and varied and the cooking excellent. All choices are very reasonably priced. The ambience and atmosphere is cosy and homely; children are welcomed and there is an enclosed garden room for parties. The staff are very friendly and will cater for most requirements. There are 'Themed' evenings - steak, fish and chips, curries etc. but the full menu is still available. Booking is probably not essential but advisable. The Brewers Arms won the Somerset CAMRA pub of the season, autumn 2012.

In the popular brewery entertainment area of Cheltenham. One of many restaurants but definitely for me a stand out. Loved the look inside. Had a bit of a Spanish or Italian old town vibe to the decor.
