I really want to say how thankful and grateful I am to Steve and his team for hosting my father's wake after his funeral. Steve took all the stress away and provided a superb buffet to cater for our family and friends. Many commented how lovely the food was. He listened to what we wanted for the function room, everything was ready when we arrived, and we were able to give my dad a wonderful send off without any worries, we will never forget the service you gave, thank you ♥️

Me and my partner had a reservation and payed £20 for a taxi to take us to the restaurant. We turned up on time and even though we rang up to reserve a table they then told us the kitchen is closed and they can't serve us food anymore. We then had to pay another £20 for a taxi to get home. £40 in total we spent on travel just to be told we can't have food at the time we reserved the table for. The restaurant made no attempt to call us to let us know they wouldn't be serving food anymore, instead they waited for us to turn up just to tell us the kitchen is closed. We spent all day travelling just to get to the restaurant and get told that we we wasn't going to be served any food now. It's absolutely disgusting that we wasn't even offered 2 free meals for next time we came or any service that could of improved the situation. I do not recommend this restaurant to anybody as you might book a table just to turn up and be told you can't be served any food. Due to the restaurants mistake, our whole day has been ruined and we payed all that travel money for nothing!

Absolutely disgrace. Would not recommend coming here for food ever again. Went out for family members birthday meal, the beef was rather undercooked (we were also not asked how we would like it because it was a roast), the turkey was cold and dry. For having the best roast in Somerset, they don’t set the bar high at all. They should be ashamed of the food they are producing to customers. I would feel embarrassed to work or be associated with this work place.

We were on a long drive back from Cornwall with my wife, son and dog to London and was facing horrific traffic on the way back. After being on the road for four hours we decided we couldn't face another 4 until we got home so scanned the internet for B&Bs at a reasonable price close to where we currently were and found the Halfway House. We decided to have a gander before booking on line and were delighted we did. Not only was this family run establishment extremely friendly and warm welcoming, the room was also perfect and our 9 year old was delighted with his mezzanine. The grounds out the back were lovely with a lake that has plenty of Carp should anyone have their fishing gear The food was super tasty and my vegan wife was over the moon with her wellington. On top of that the prices were great! Another bonus was by booking direct with the hotel we saved a good percentage compared to the hotel sites we were looking at, what a place! Well refreshed after a great night's sleep, we sat down for a delicious breakfast that was included in the price, it was a beautiful morning so a last walk around the lake before we set off was a fantastic way to start the day We couldn't have wished to find a better place, the family who run it are clearly skilled at what they do and couldn't do enough for us or the dog! We're so glad we couldn't face more driving or we would never have found this absolute Gem. As a frequent Cornwall visitor, I will certainly be back for an overnight pit stop. I couldn't think of anywhere better for the great prices on offer. 10/10

Wouldn't call it a country lodge , I would call it a very basic rundown pub , no welcome when we walked into the pub ( apart from the locals sitting there) ignored by the old lady , served by a lady who was not at all welcoming ( no customer service) but fair to say polite, the food was awful , very basic portion and extremely overpriced. The bar smelt of fags. It shows a beautiful beer garden and a lake , looks nothing like that, the lake looked pretty but fag ends all over the grass no beautiful flower beds . It was very rundown , old containers , sheds , didn't see the camp site area so can't review that but if you want a decent meal go elsewhere!!

This was the 2nd time I had been here, the first was meh. This time though was poor. I had booked for 6 people, when I get there to book us in one of the ladies told me I couldn’t have, I must have for 4. No my dear. We were eventually found a table after a table. A member of our family had parked on glass in the car park and not realised until another diner pointed it out to us. When he informed the owner that he had a puncher from glass that had been smashed on his car park, she didn’t care. Not even a mention of a courtesy drink, all we got was sorry but not our fault. Then I mentioned perhaps if she’s allowing people into the car park with glass, perhaps checking in the morning that there’s no glass been left, so any could be swept up? Nope, didn’t care one jot. The food, the meat by the time we finally made it through the buffet queue was dry and not very nice. The veggies over cooked and sloppy. We didn’t really enjoy our food at all. We won’t be returning.

First room we stayed in was number 21, Jacuzzi bath, all singing all dancing double shower, very relaxing after a long day at work. Very comfortable four poster bed. The second week, we had one of the apartment rooms opposite the lake. Nice comfortable living area, with separate mezzanine bedroom, again comfortable bed. There was also a small private garden area to sit in with this apartment. Had breakfast every morning, full english. Very friendly staff, very welcoming. We also ate in the bar area a few times and would recommend the burgers, huge portion sizes. Thank you for making our working week more bearable. Hope to see you again soon

Stayed here as a last minute thing and only had this choice due to being a bank holiday. First impressions is the place is like a maze and the decor needs serious attention and the toilets near the bar needs a total refurb, it’s not great nor welcoming. The customer service was ok, but they need to be knowledgeable on things such as the menu. Told a list of ice creams that were on the menu that hadn’t been available for 3 years! The food was not good at all. I had the special, Sunday roast, and was clearly microwaved. The salmon my wife had was really dry. 1 star on the food, sorry. Breakfast was ok. The rooms were ok, just....ok....again needs refurb and attention. But for one night it was ok..... I was going to give it 3 stars but the food seriously let it down as the prices were not reflective of the quality. This needs sorting immediately as whilst the place needs refurb your food could still bring back business. Shame, as this place could be fantastic, the setting of the lake is great and all it needs is money injected to bring it up to a standard and a new chef/menu to capture local repeated trade. There is a lot of wasted space that could be used to make additional income.

We stayed here for a night as a half way point on our way to spend a week in Devon. We were a group two adults, two teenagers & a dog so really needed two rooms so wanted somewhere quite cheap. For the price we paid which included breakfast for us all, I couldn't fault the place. It was clean and the breakfast was nice. A bit old fashioned but we didn't mind that. Everyone made us and the dog feel welcome. There's a leak to the rear where the dogs can run around. We didn't eat dinner here but the meals that came out while we were having a drink in the bar looked very nice. The boys had a pudding each though which were nice.

A lovely welcome and pleased with our room. One of the chalet rooms with a mezzanine level for the bedroom. It was nice to have a separate living space with a tv, seating, tea making facilities and a fridge as we were staying for 3 nights and the weather was unpredictable. It was warm and clean and the bed was comfortable. The meals were large and well presented, in fact too much for us really. Breakfast was also good, be prepared to wait for the toaster which took ages! We did find the place to be generally run down and tired and in need of a lot of attention and there’s lots of things I could list, however we have genuinely enjoyed our stay and these things have not affected our enjoyment. So if you want something that is not expensive and convenient for lots of places, this is it. The bar has a limited selection of drinks and certainly hasn’t caught up with the gin trends but this didn’t stop us spending a couple of good evenings there talking to other guests. It also is tired and in need of some repair but it would be a shame to try to modernise it as it’s one of the few “traditional “ inns around. I hope that the owners are able to make the necessary improvements soon but don’t make it bland and cold like so many other pubs these days. Quirky can be good providing standards are kept up.

We booked two rooms through booking.com - one for us and our three dogs, the other for our daughters. The rooms were next to each other and handy for the dogs, as they led out to the car park/lake and walking area. The rooms were basic, but comfortable and fairly clean. People walked right past our windows/rooms to access the inn, but we had blinds, so it was fairly private. We ate in the bar area. The menu was simple and food was ok. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was great. Handy location for Yeovil. We would consider staying again if we returned to the area , but it could do with a face lift and a refresh.

People excellent, evening meal excellent and reasonable, setting good and LOTS of potential. If reviewers pay £200 per night then yes they cannot rate it 5 star but they are a 3 star AA and as such very reasonably priced and I agree with some saying the place looks a bit tired but they are constantly getting round rooms to paint etc and they are clean with good facilities. Would certainly recommend as a base for visiting local attractions/walks etc. The breakfast was excellent thanks to Angie and they could not do enough for us ( wife had broken leg due to accident a week before our visit). Always encouraging to see a full car park and locals in the pub! So whoever rates this hotel/restaurant, be open minded and fair!

I've just returned from staying here for one night. The staff I met were lovely but the décor was very tired looking, my room was at the front of the building so the busy A37 running past kept me awake most of the night. Be aware that at the weekends you cannot get breakfast until 8.30am!!! I asked for a 7am start but it was flatly refused, apparently the chef does not get in until 8.15am and has to get everything cooked. This is very late compared to all the Hotels/Inns that I have ever stayed in, I was offered a breakfast tray but wanted a cooked breakfast, as I had a very busy day. I've looked on their website and can't find anything about this late breakfast. I ended up going out at 7am to another hotel and getting a full-English there!!! My bathroom was very clean, a shower, but no bath, the room looked like it needed a face lift. I have to be honest and say that I will not be returning again, it's the local Premier Inn for me next time where I am guaranteed a 7am breakfast even at weekends!!!

Landlady was polite and engaged with my young children, showed us to a quiet area in the pub and we placed our orders. Kids menu was good with lots of choice and the girls loved their meals. We both had burgers and ordered extra cheese - agree with another review that the amount of cheese was huge but we scraped some off.....rather oodles of proper cheese than a synthetic slice! The portions are big so make sure you have an empty stomach we had 4 meals, 2 drinks each and it was under £45 whuch I think is good value for a family of 4. Cant comment on the rooms but the toilets were spotless which I think is always a good sign....pleasantly surprised and will be back!

We were pleasantly surprised by the pub as from the hotel website it was not clear it was a pub that served food. The room we were in was a chalet style with the bedroom above a small lounge type living area with the tv. The stairs were quite narrow and the toilet being downstairs from the bedroom may not be suitable for people with mobility issues. For us was it fine and was better than a traditional style hotel room. The pub was friendly and the food good, as was the breakfast. We would certainly stay here again.

We were their for lunch so it wasn't busy at all. They brought the food out at different times so some of us had to wait and by then it had gone cold this goes for sides as well as mains. The food was pretty average. One of us had a cheeseburger that might as well of had a block of cathedral city cheese dropped on it. It was far too much cheese and the attempt to melt some of it turned out awful. Will not be going here again

We booked one night at the Halfway House through Groupon (£49 for 1 night, B&B). We were welcomed in straight away and taken to our room which was nice not to have to follow any instructions. The bedroom was well furnished with a four poster bed, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was superb with a jacuzzi bath and a very large shower with many functions. We did not eat at the Inn but it looked fairly standard pub fare. They were kind enough to book us a taxi into Yeovil when asked. Later on they were also very accommodating with requests for hot chocolate and paracetamol.Breakfast was good with the buffet section providing all the usual items before the cooked breakfast came out.Overall, recommended for the experience, a taxi was definitely required to get into Yeovil.

After wandering through corridors with no signs that I could see, I eventually found the reception desk. After ringing for attention, I waited several minutes as the lady was busy chatting - another customer actually interrupted her and told her I was waiting. My room overlooked the car park and it was grubby with black mould around the bath area and also on the window blinds. The paint was peeling off the walls and the laminate flooring was damaged. One of the twin beds looked as though it had not been changed (very creased and rumpled). I had to go and get a hair drier from reception - she could have mentioned it whilst I was there. I was left to find breakfast which was not where she had told me. The food was OK, but the toaster took forever to produce under-done toast. The coffee was pathetic. I was made to pay on arrival as I was told they were short staffed in the morning and it would be busy. As I didn't leave until 10.30 I wouldn't think it was a problem. Not a pleasant experience at all.

Booked four days here for my family. Having seen all the nice pictures on the net. Well the pictures must have been taken by a 1980s estate agent! The lake is to shallow and full of weed, you cannot fish it. The rooms are spacious but very dated and tired. Cobwebs come free as do the fag buts everywhere you go. Everything needs painting, cleaning , even the broken gazebo in the garden has seen better days. The breakfast was awful. It tasted as if everything went in the deep fat fryer apart from the beans, the lady cooking, taking orders, clearing tables was trying so hard bless her but couldn't do everything on her own. The eating area was a tatty bar come dirty function room.As we were checking out at five to ten am, having our last cup of tea and checking we hadn't left anything a very large girl was standing in our doorway with her Hoover , yes we felt uncomfortable. This place is clearly used by builders stopping over, vans everywhere , banging about around 7am loading and sorting and banging doors. The builders bums, unwashed sleepy eyed dirty smelly shirt brigade wasn't very nice to see over ones pre cooked rock hard sausage in the morning.Avoid this very tired establishment, go camping , caravan, sleep in a doorway! But stay away from the halfway house.

We went on recommendation for Sunday Carvery and weren't disappointed! There was a good choice of meats - lamb, turkey or pork - and the display of vegetables and trimmings was very impressive. The portions of meat were generous and the help yourself vegetables were beautifully cooked and very tasty. Very good value. Tables were nicely placed with sufficient space between them giving a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were helpful, friendly and efficient.

Huge Yorkshire puds, choice of 3 meats (chicken, pork or beef today). Vegetables were cooked to perfection, unable to have dessert as stuffed to the gills lol friendly staff and although we weren't big spenders, we only had 1 drink each no one was pushing us out of the door. Well done to all.

First time we have been there since moving to this area.Good parking. Lovely, friendly, accommodating staff. Good menus for both the bar or resturant. We ordered off the bar menu but staff were happy for us to eat in the resturant.Food freshly cooked and obviously home made! Steak Pie good sized portion and fresh vegetables with lovely rich gravy. Great spanish omelette (rather large portion for me but my partner enjoyed what i couldn't each) with a good salad (fabulous to have a salad without the ubiquitous peppers which I usually have to fish out). We shared a beautful Raspberry PavlovaFinal word, definetly recommend this place to eat. Nothing protentious, good friendly service, lovely food and a welcoming fireplace and warm!!!!

I got a nice place in the sun and the menu + grabbed myself a beer. Choice went back to the fish and chips I had the last time.... Unfortunately the chips were the standard quality you can meet at the pubs across the country. The battered cod was nice and juicy so nothing wrong with a standard rating. I really missed the crispy / juicy chips from my last visit!Nice pub with friendly service.

Great B&B pub, our room was in the annex at the rear of the hotel, with a mezzanine bedroom. Bathroom is a little small but works well - good shower with plenty of heat/power.We had a back garden with a gate out towards the fishing lake. All in all a very pleasant environment. Our evening meal was superb, took a while to decide what to have as the menu all sounded good. No idea what the desserts are like as we were both too full to even think about having one.

As part of our stay we ate in the Hotel bar/restaurant and very tasty it was too. Pub classics - pies, scampi, curries. All very well cooked. All very flavoursome. And good portions too. Great staff and nice beer too. We had breakfast there too the next day, and that was superb. Well worth a visit.

As I stayed in the Halfway House for a few nights and the breakfast was great, I decided to give the Pub a try, too. The inside looks very clean and like one of the better pubs.... however the tablecloth had a hole in it.I went to the tab to get a beer and got it brought to the table a little later. By then, I had decided to settle for an English classic, fish and chips. When I received it, I got the best fish and chips I ever had in England/Scotland! It was juicy and hot on the inside and crispy on the outside. The chips were just the same, a perfect combination of crunchy crust on the outside and mellow inside ... DELICIOUS! Obviously all was freshly prepared and it didn't take a long waiting time as in other places. With it came a few bits of mixed green salad and mushy peas.WONDERFULL and the price was good but the size was not gigantic so the hole thing was great. If they get the other parts straight, I'd say its a five star fish and chips straight through and not "just" a five star fish and chips!

I am technically a regular customer and have been for over a year. I can honestly say that I have never been dissapointed with their carvery either food or service wise.Their Sunday carvery is exceptional value for money. You start off with a choice of two roast meats. A vegetarian option is available, though you might need to book in advance. There is then the option of either Stuffing, Yorkshire pudding or a portion of each. The lovely lady serving then offers you the plate already part full of goodies and tells you to take a serviette to hold your warm plate with, No cold greasiness here! Then it is on the self service section where there is usually two vegetables, and mashed Swede plus the ubiquitous Roast potatoes and Cauliflower cheese baked in a lovely mustardy sauce. Sometimes, there is a third vegetable choice and, with the Pork, there is Crackling on offer. With that, you are onto your sauces and a pot of Gravy. The Children's carvery is served in an unheated bowl so that there is no risk of them burning their fingle-ingers on it.They offer a choice of desserts which change periodically and there is always Ice cream if a pud is just too much after your plate full of Carvery Joy. Though they are often quite busy, it is worth poking your roast desiring nose through the door if you are passing through. It might be worth booking though especially if you are vegetarian, they will do you a boat of vegetarian gravy as well.My only reccomendation is to sprinkle a little salt onto your potatoes just to bring the flavour out.Their bar is stocked with a Guest Ale (Currently Sharps 'Atlantic', A light zingy ale that refreshes and is clean to the pallette) one or two other bitters If I recall correctly, Lagers, wines and the usual mixers. They have a carvery during the week so it is worth dropping them a line, and they also have a menu.

We went for dinner here- it was fantastic! We both ordered rib-eye steak and it was the best steak we have eaten. They knew their menu completely and the atmosphere was great. We will back- highly recommended!

My wife and I stayed for 2 night, expecting evening meals and breakfast as we were visiting Wells and Bath and Yeovil . I think it was a lovely pub at one time but not now. It did no food closed most nights , we visited other pubs for our meals very disappointing stay and would not recommend anyone to stay I think it will possibly close down very shortly.

Fantastic night for dinner, we always struggle taking our child out for dinner but we felt such at ease. We were greeted with friendliness, served fast for our drinks and told to choose a table! Food was delivered fast, hot and delicious! Lots of parking space, my son was given colours and colouring paper which kept him happy. We booked in for the Christmas breakfast with Santa and can’t wait 😍

Had been looking forward to visiting here for a while but was left disappointed. Unfortunately they dont seem to be well adverse with alligies. After informing them of an alligie within our party it's seemed that panic struck and we were told they couldn't guarantee that the food was suitable as the kitchen had various things made in it. We left hungry and disappointed
