A most friendly atmosphere and welcoming pub, favoured much by the locals as well as visitors. The mixed grill is a real delight, cooked to perfection with the best onion rings I've ever tasted... Great range of beer, ciders and friendly helpful staff. Onevtoo add to the 'Must Return' list...

Edit: The pub has since changed hands since this review. I’ve not had a chance to visit under new ownership. We called in on our way home from Yorkshire. Finding the Camelot serving food all day, on a Monday was a huge surprise. The welcome was very warm and the food was excellent. They accommodated my partners food allergy requirements without a qualm and even have a separate frier for gluten free chips. The chips were the biggest and best pub chips I’ve had, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Talking of fluffy, Mr Fluffy balls the ginger cat was very attentive and was keen to ensure the food had been prepared to his satisfaction. He enjoyed the wild boar burger and captain Morgan sauce almost as much as I did. I would highly recommend this pub and will definitely return when I’m in the area.

I don’t like writing negative reviews but honestly our experience wasn’t great. The food looked great (and was priced accordingly) but really wasn’t that great once you got beyond the presentation. Fish-and-Chips was particularly disappointing. Tomato Soup was very ordinary. Platter had wow factor on delivery but failed to impress. No wood on the fire despite asking - and this was a cold day. In many ways it’s a lovely old pub but it’s got to the point that I reckon the whole place needs a complete refurb. Old wooded table collapsed whilst we were all eating! Apologies if we just picked the wrong Friday lunchtime to be there!

On our journey back from Cornwall to Essex on 29 Dec, we found this pub on Google for our lunch. Basically a good pub and food was good, but could be made so much better! It was quite cold in there so kept our coats on.🥶 The large fireplace was in need of a good clean up if it was going to be used, which it clearly wasn't. There was a lovely layer of dust on an unused table. Ladies toilet was in need of a good clean, bin was overflowing and clearly hadn't been emptied for a while.🤦‍♀️ Lots of interesting stuff on the walls of the passageway, but couldn't read them as it was too dark. Definitely room for improvement at this lovely pub.

Lovely rustic pub. Great meal with seconds if desired. V reasonably priced and service - ace. Dessert lovely. Just up road on right is trackway to one of the finest hillforts is UK. Very historical - iron age but refortified during 5th century AD so of Dark Age interest and regularly connected to 'Arthurian' sagas. If visiting hillfort wear stout shoes - trackway stony and this time of year muddy. Recommend a visit to pub andd hill. Latter sports exceptional views of countryside for miles around.

Popped in for a beer and some lunch after a walk in South Cadbury, totally ignored by rude barmaid so walked out. Waited at bar for 5 minutes as barmaid served couple in front of us. Barmaid then walked past us several times but not so much as an acknowledgment, eye contact or be with you in a minute, we continued to stand there before barmaid returned to the bar and preceeded to serve the locals at the far end of the bar, clearly passing customers dont count, couldn't believe our eyes! Didn't get a warm welcome last time but thought we'd give the pub a second chance, shan't bother again, took our trade to a pub that welcomes its customers.

Nice chatting to the locals too ..not forgetting to mention prince furry balls the cat..very cheeky...his equally affectionate girl friend & son (cats) I wish I had a local pub like this in my area...near Blandford/Wimborne in Dorset. Just been for lunch here as was cutting our journey home up. Lovely pleasant staff, could do with a light in through the corridor from the toilets to the bar side as it's very dark and nearly tripped over the step. The food we ordered was the king Arthur burger, with chips , salad and coleslaw. We have to say although we left full, the £15.50 price tag was considerably expensive for what was presented. Homemade chips were nice but a little greasy. The coleslaw was nothing special. The salad very basic, iceberg lettuce with tiny bit of chopped red onion and peppers with a vinaigrette splashed over it. The "king Arthur" burger was ok, Not Befitting the name its been given tho if im honest. The burger was served on something very similar to a small heavy doughy Hovis cob you can buy from the supermarket in pack of 6, not something you would expect to be served at a pub for the price. The patty was again ok, not too thick, but quite small as it fit in the small cob, luckily there was a good portion of chips to make up for it. However, if you are going to call a burger by such a legendary Name you should deliver but it falls far from that and at best would be better named "Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot" burger. We also felt to make the burger or meal feel less "Royal" it was served with very cheap vinegary Tomato ketchup the kind you get given at layby burger van or chefs larder from bookers, sometimes the ketchup can add to the overall burger this did thhe opposite sadly. I have had much worse burgers, but that said you can definitely get better burgers cheaper from chain pubs which is a shame. I'd say if this was £10 tops then it would be a nice meal/ burger but at £15.50... it is has been over priced and under delivered for something of a legendary Name that it represents!

Place was busy which was good to see and together with lovely friendly staff, welcoming bar and good drinks menu this pub succeeds in offering a very warm, cosy atmosphere. Traditional pub, owner landlord and lady, a little tired décor but outweighed by the welcome and friendly staff. Good value, tasty homemade pub grub. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal served in the garden. Good range of ales.

Fab lunch at the Prince of Wales today. Confit duck leg with dauphinoise potatoes, and venison faggots with mash were our main courses. Both dishes were tasty, filling and cooked perfectly. Puddings were good too; ginger treacle tart and apple pie with custard, not overly sweet and decent size. Thank you

We went for dinner here- it was fantastic! We both ordered rib-eye steak and it was the best steak we have eaten. They knew their menu completely and the atmosphere was great. We will back- highly recommended!
