The Ocean in Coventry

Estupendo. No hay otra palabra. Comí el pollo akbari, con un keema naan y arroz hervido, y fue magnífico. Mi esposa tenía una madras de pollo, papas fritas, arroz y un naan. Mi hija tenía la tradición de pollo tikka masala por 1 vez en la calle (la versión asiática más tradicional) y dijo que era el mejor curry que ha tenido. Si te gusta el dulce masala británico te pido que pruebes la versión tradicional no te arrepentirás. El camarero está en otro nivel lleno de espíritus altos, incluso si la comida era tan así que valdría la pena una visita para verlo. Estoy sorprendido de las críticas negativas porque he estado viniendo aquí durante años y nunca he tenido una mala comida. Una persona comentó diciendo que desearían haber escuchado las críticas, bueno tal vez deberías, porque hay 175 excelentes críticas contra 5 terribles, lo que indica que eres tú quien está en la más pequeña de las minorías.

Worst butter chicken I have ever had, my partner cooks a better curry the curry was more like oil and hardly any cheese on the garlic and cheese nan

I went out with my friends few weeks back and food was very bad staff is very rude. They asked us ‘if the food is bad why we ate it’. Food is definitely not for Indians. I suggest our Indian friends not to go there.

Iam the driver of jmco Foods. We have been supplying the ocean many years but Don't have a chance to have anything to eat from ocean but recently we have had a few MEALS from they and the food is truly delicious and extremely friendly staff special thanks to Adil for the special nan he made me which was garlic, onion, coriander and cheese any way big thanks to all management and satff

Food was extremely bad and the tomato in every dish was reducing the taste of dishes lamb and chicken was not fresh never visit this place not worthy

I have visited today for dinner with my friends and ordered saag paneer the manager who worked he told us that it is very spicy and he over hyped the dish and garlic chilli naan and in the naan the taste we got is sweet and the service is really bad and I never gonna come back.. I don't have a chance to give 0 ⭐ review otherwise I can give 0 ⭐

Just now visited this place absolutely not worthy especially kheema was too worst not at all fresh and I don't recommend it even I got the stomach pain after eating not worth it Indians please don't visit this place

Sorry to say that food is very bad and the service is also not up to the mark and when we are speaking to the people who are working they were very manipulative.. and at the end when we are speaking they were like food is good why you guys are telling lie your plates are empty and we are very dissatisfied and never gonna come to this..

Local shop with parking near. Had a takeaway this evening. The only let down with this place is the naan bread is not fresh.

I don’t know who is in the kitchen tonight but just when you think the food can’t get any better it does. Praise for the sheek kebab, the cheesiest cheese nan, and the chicken vindaloo, chicken rogan and chicken bombay which had the most amazing flavour. I always love the food from here but tonight has been the best yet!!!! Thanks for an excellent meal guys.

As it was Nye, there were a lot more bookings for takeaways than people dining in. We did have to wait a long time for our food. We arrived at 7 and left at 9. The food and overall service were excellent as always.

Came back after 20 years to coventry to see friends order food chicken and a naan and 2 chapatis we waited 45 minutes. They were not Busy. Its a joke . We were looking forward to eating there. May come back in another 20year may be a new owner will take over. The chicken was few weeks old and naan was un cooked and chapatis were un cooked spoke to owner he said its the way we cook our naan in tandoor. Food was really good 20years ago . When we paid we was asked was the food ok I replied no there was no response it was like speak to brick wall. I think the owner doesn't no about cooked or uncooked food. Need to get back old cheff . St Place. All ask for fresh food when you go to this restaurant.

The food is probably the best I've ever had. The takeaway food is amazing!! The quality and taste of the dishes are excellent. The meat is always high quality cooked to perfection and to the perfect flavour. The staff are lovely welcoming and friendly. The food is always done on time when collecting. 10/10 best one you will find to the point where we drive past several nearer restaurants to go to this one. 👍👍👍👍 We usually spend about £20 each once you try it you will want to order half the menu it's that good!! 😍

Havnt been here in quite a few years. It looks tired and could do with a revamp. The food was very dissapointing and not very good. Looked like it had been sat and reheated tbh. Not much flavour. On the upside the staff were welcoming polite and friendly. Wont be back in a hurry such a shame used to be a great place.

Had a takeaway from here tonight for the first time, lovely food large portions and good value for your money. The staff were friendly and helpful. Nice welcome soon as I entered the restaurant. Just wished they served alcohol so I would eat in with friends. I will be ordering again from here for a takeaway. Thanks 👍

Had a family takeaway 3 madras’s 1 korma with pilau rice & chips(fries) keema naan & chilli cheese naan 27/09/2023, Totally should of just listened to the reviews & saved our money. Chicken was dry what was in there just loads of sauce, very small pieces of chicken,naan’s you couldn’t even taste the cheese or chilli’s Very bland awful tbh will not be ordering again total waste of money very disappointed tbh

We had been staying in Coventry for a weekend car show at the nec..the restaurant at the hotel was appaling so we spent ages on google looking for a good indian...this place has the highest marks so we decided to go with it...unfortunately the curry had no taste...5 pieces of chicken...cold french fries ( i would of gone to mcdonalds for them) onion barghi we flat and no taste. Mint sauce was ok...and the best part was the naan bread...although they were very helpful on the phone and delivery driver was lovely i cab say the curry was very disappointing

The interior and seats needs a makeover but the food is worth it Overall portions to price ratio is a tad on the expensive side for what you get but you will enjoy the hospitality from the manager Is a under rated venue hidden in plain site

No alcohol. The ambience is almost non existent and the seating uncomfortable. The service was very warm and friendly but inefficient. Drinks order was bungled and our bhindi bhaji side was missing completely and rushed to the table 5 min later. It was not very good bhindi. The tandoori chicken was nice and only very slightly over done. The lamb biryani really good. Tender lamb and a nice flavoursome mild vegetable curry accomplishment. Naan breads also quite good I wouldn't rush back

A charming shop with a strong base of loyal fans. The delightful and friendly owner and staff, along with the addictive deliciousness that you can't help but come back for, filled my stomach and heart with happiness. 💗😊💗

I've been going here when in Coventry for over 25 years. I really enjoy the Indian food, and the staff are great fun.

Visited for first time . It was really nice food. Was welcomed as we walked in . Staff where very friendly and polite . I would say it has the old school vibe we all remember as kids when we went out for a curry. 5*

Been visiting this place for over 30 years despite no longer living in Coventry. Without doubt the best curry in Coventry and very reasonably priced as well. You won't be disappointed

Great Indian food. Good price for takeaway in these inflationary times. Only criticism is that they don't serve alcohol, so if eating in, you are limited to drink? Otherwise they are good on the food aspect.

Found this restaurant by accident. But sometimes accidents turn out to be good things. The staff are friendly helpful and even though the place was full they found time to talk / help. Nothing was too much The food all of our group enjoyed every bite... Hope to go back when I'm next in the area.

This place is a gem, a time travel back to the 80s...full of nostalgia . If you want a memorable night out, you will get it in abundance. Iqbal the host here is with the most, transporting you to a sitcom set, delivering great entertainment to all his customers. You will not forget or be disappointed. When the food arrived, it was an explosion of great flavours from the first mouthful to the last. The dishes were authentic, traditional and nostalgic. The quality was rich and full of flavour. There was no style over substance. It was class act of cooking. The cheese garlic naan was done with finesse. This restaurant will be my go to in Coventry. There is more on the menu I want to try. I will return again and more often.

I have eaten in the restaurant had take away and over the lock down had my favourite food delivered from the Ocean Indian Restaurant. Over the last 17 years. I can honestly say with hand on heart the Ocean is simply the best Indian food in Coventry. The service is great the staff are lovely the boss man is totally hilarious. Here’s to the next 17 yrs !!!

Food is always delicious and so tasty! The service is wonderful, they really are lovely hosts. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

We visited here with a group of friends on the recommendation of some of our other group who had visited earlier that evening. When we arrived we were a little worried as a very large group had arrived just before us, but this didn't detract from the wonderful service we received from the wonderfully charismatic and charming man who took our order. Despite being a totally dry restaurant and serving no alcohol at all, this obviously didn't deter anyone as it looked to be an extremely busy little restaurant. All of our group ordered different dishes and we were all extremely happy with our choices. I opted for one of the hottest dishes and was warned by the man taking our order, and I was very pleased that it lived up to expectations, this is possibly one of the best curry's I have had in many years.

We were worried that the Ocean, our local Indian restaurant, might not have survived the lock down, but fortunately it has, and is good as ever. We have had two visits since June, and both times the curries have been spot on. We started with lovely crispy poppadoms, and relishes- so often a disappointment in other restaurants, especially the mint sauce. My wife always has Chicken Tikka Pathia, "juicy, madras minus hot", and says it is the best in Coventry. On the first visit I had Chicken Tikka Traditional (with minced meat), and on the second Chicken Tikka Ceylon, hot with coconut, and both dishes were delicious, with tender meat, and generous portions. I always ask for extra fried onions with my curry, and they are happy to oblige. Mushroom rice, and Malayan rice (with pineapple) sides went well. Both times we have been with another couple,  and they both really enjoyed their meals too (Chicken Akbari and Paneer Tikka), and had a take way for their son!. Four clean plates at the end of the night says it all. And a reasonable price, around £30 a couple, so no complaints there.  You can't review the Ocean with out mentioning Icky, the owner/manager, who's OTT behaviour make the night. He knows us and most of the other customers, and loves to chat and brighten up the evening. We would go for the food alone, obviously, but friendly and entertaining staff are the icing on the cake!

Easily one of the best Indian restaurants in the Coventry area and even after lockdown the quality of the food and the service from the staff was just as fantastic, now we can eat out together again I'm sure me and my buddies will do so many more times.

Just ordered a lamb curry had a few mouth full not nice the curry was to watery and the frys was soggy it was bad from the start the only decent thing I ate was the naan bread waste of money no stars of me ...... the only reason why its getting a one star is because I have to press the star to post this review... not happy ...

Fantastic food as always. I've been coming here for over 20 years and have never had a bad meal. The staff are amazing too, adding to the whole experience, highly recommend.

First visit to this establishment. Did not disappoint, great food and amazing atmosphere. Nearly did not come because google said 'no dine in' but called to confirm that they are taking bookings. We had the lamb shank as recommended by the hilarious waiter who had everyone in stitches. Great night can't wait to come again. They need a website !!!!

First visit to the Ocean tonight following a few recommendations.. we were absolutely not disappointed! The food was fantastic and delicious, plentiful and the staff made for a memorable and great visit! Loved the place and will definitely be back again soon!

Restaurant newly refurbished, more room and so much brighter. Food was excellent and the staff brilliant. Well done Bobby and Icky.

For our first visit to an Indian restaurant since February- it had to be the Ocean! I phoned to book a table the day before, and it was lovely to hear the formal phone voice change in to Icky's famous tones when he recognised me!  Obviously there had been a few changes since the new rules came in. Hand sanitizer on entrance, less chairs and tables, paper menus, no hot plates, and the staff all wearing masks. But Icky was still his normal OTT self, and most importantly the food was as good as ever. Lovely poppadoms to start with, then I had Chicken Akbari, and the OH had Chicken Tikka Pathia, and both were as excellent as we remembered. Full marks! Even the mint sauce with the poppadoms is still the best in Coventry! No alcohol served now, but that wasn't a problem to us, and there was a good range of choice. No complaints about the prices, especially compared to other more "celebrated" restaurants, and a shout out to Bobby for making sure we got After Eights with the bill! It was a bit quiet, as was to be expected, but hopefully trade will start to pick up, and we will certainly return!

We were the 1st actual diners since the lockdown was lifted. We have been ordering a takeaway almost weekly since the lockdown but this was the 1st time we have been able to dine at the restaurant. Stunning meals. I highly recommend the Akbari, I had the lamb version pictured. My partner had the chicken tikka main, with an onion Bhaji to go with it. Great service as always from Icky and Bobby, two top fellas.

First time try ,I like to visit resturant before I try takeaway but I was not disappointed with the selection of fine foods would definitely eat there again but will sit in when restrictions lifted and a lovely friendly manner on phone and I must say very quick delivery thank you

During the lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic after weeks of home cooking we decided to get a curry and phoned an order through to the ocean. Good to see they have policies in place one in one out, Social distancing, Gloves and anti-bac. As always lovely meal, and at a good cost. Defiantly recommend the ocean.

My first visit as did not know this was an indian resturant until i found it on the web today . What a gem. ! Had chicken chilli balti which was fab . The best one i have had in a long time . Will defo be going again and will let others know . Service was excellent and staff pleasant. Will defo be visiting again..shame its took so long to find it .

Incredible food and astounding atmosphere. The food was authentic and the staff had great banter.

Had the jalfrezi madras hot, the colour of the curry looked very nice but it wasn't particularly spicy or tasted of much. I was a bit disappointed. Also no alcohol at all allowed in the restaurant.

Another fantastic meal at The Ocean. We've been going for years and have never been disappointed.

Having a birthday on new year's eve is not always ideal but this year we booked at table at my favourite restaurant. Icky was on great form and replied when we asked him how he was with "I'm still fat and I'm still Indian". The place was really busy and a lot of takeaways went out too. Service was, as always, excellent and the food is divine. Beautifully flavoured and some creative dishes not seen elsewhere. We all really enjoyed our food (or dinner as Icky calls it) and my mother in law had her first Pathia. Perfect birthday meal and thanks again to Icky and the staff.

We visited here on New Years Eve, fantastic service and food. Was disappointed to find out that from 1st January, there will be no alcohol served or allowed on the premises!

First time i have been to this restaurant and yes it was great. The stories about the place are true lovely food and great service. Maybe a bit in the 70s style wise but its bang on for a vintage feel.

Visited The Ocean recently for our wedding anniversary meal. As always a wonderful welcome from Icky and the staff. As always the food was absolutely top notch and Icky is always willing to modify a dish to suit. My Chicken Sylheti was absolutely superb.

1st time having food from here and from the moment I called i knew I'd picked a good 1 - friendly on phone and very helpful - food was 1st class and the leftovers the next day were just as good. We had chicken jalfrezi which as the manager had said was spicy but not overly hot and a lamb bhuna - the tender lamb was delicious. The side dishes were just as good and i was recommended an okra dish which we'd not tried before and it was devoured with the rest of the food. Finally found a great Indian in Coventry after many failed attempts with Deliveroo/just eat and uber - see you again.Matt and Helen

The vindaloo wasn't classic but warm and tasty none the less, the meat chilli balti however was spot on. Tender, complex and firey.. Much like the wife.

Once again The Ocean chaps do it again! They were friendly and jovial and my wife and I had a jolly time sharing a delicious Begum Behar, the chef’s signature dish, with mushroom rice, saag aloo and garlic naan! It was first rate - we have eaten in a range of curry houses in the U.K. over the years but returning to Cov, the Ocean is the one that never disappoints! Long may it continue to delight the tastebuds of Coventry! Thanks guys! Loved the funky music too!
