The Oast & Squire in Fareham

Was out longer then expected so as we were passing decided to stop and get something to eat (lunch time on a Wednesday afternoon). Awful attitude from staff as we had not booked in advance, we were told the only place we could sit was the seating by the bar which was the same menu but no table service, which we didn't mind. We found a seat and then heard bar staff very loudly announce they couldn't believe people turn up without a booking (as I said stopped by unexpectedly as out longer then planned). We waited over an hour for foodto arrive, but when it did it was piping hot and tasted good so no complaints there. I wouldn't be in a rush to return due to staff attitude, and I would rather they had just said sorry we are fully booked (which i dont think they were as as you had to walk past the main dining area to get to the toilets and it was only ever half full the whole 2 hours we were there)

Good service liked 40%off best.

Lovely evening meal, before heading back to Cornwall! Lovely atmosphere, brilliant food! My steak was cooked to perfection! Caroline was a joy and so friendly 😊

Mixed grill and chicken melt both excellent. Can't fault it. Will come again.

Food not good I ordered half a chicken very small chicken sweet corn very hard un eatable. This is my only second visit I will try again BUT?.

I ate there as part of a party of ten last Monday evening (14/10), whilst celebrating a friends 30th Birthday. We were looked after by a very bubbly dark haired waitress, who from our first engagement with her, was intent on making our evening a fun an enjoyable one. Our order was taken efficiently, with our food arriving hot. I enjoyed the sirloin steak, which was tender and very tasty. Time passed very quickly and without realising we had managed to stay 45 minutes beyond the Oasts usual 10pm closing time. No one from the staff approached us to speed out departure, which is something we were greatly appreciative of. An excellent experience all round. Thank you.

I wasn't expecting to much as our last beefeater in Bracknell was worse then rubbish. But this one was really good, we had the mixed grill, £22, but worth every penny. Even the piece of steak that came with it was tender with no gristle. Fed 7 of us for £140 with drinks. The staff were spot on and very accommodating. As there is no Toby near, this will be one of my regular haunts.

A bit pricey but really lovely food, had a good time and all staff very nice and polite.

I don't know why but for so.w reason the food at this beefeater is so much nicer than any other one I've been to its an hours drive fro. Where I live .but prefer to have a good meal I. Clean place with very lovely staff .the one in Farnborough is . rude staff . Dirty the staff have dirty cloths just so different how can this be

Poor choice of draft beer, 6 different Lagers, 2 Ciders but no Bitter or Ale. Decor is aged abd tatty, The vynal was cracked and peeling from our seat. My starter arrived on a chipped plate. This is a shame because I normally enjoy a visit to Beefeater, and the food was really nice, I just feel the Oast and Squire needs a bit of investment.

Liz was an amazing waitress, checking on us, friendly, and helpful! She made sure we had everything we needed—going above and beyond to give our twins a birthday card when she realized we were celebrating their birthday! Thank you Liz!

Popped in to meet with Brother & his wife ( Brother 70th ) had a starter mushrooms a bit crunchy for 2 of us, Great Food and service

Good solid food and staff are great!

We did not eat. Had to wait 10 minutes to be served 2 drinks. If it had been busy it would not of bothered me, however we were the only 2 stood at the bar. 2 staff did go behind and get their cigarettes as on break and say they would tell someone we were there. Used to be a good pub, hopefully just a off day.

What a wonderful experience this was! We went here to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and we all had lovely meals- steak; a burger; gammon steak, which were all absolutely delicious. My husband tried to use a gift card but there was a problem with it (through no fault of his own) so the manager gave us a voucher for 25% off. Our daughter had a problem on the day and the waitresses stepped up to help, we are so grateful to them for their discretion. Even a kind customer helped out. We really felt cared for and well treated (which is unusual in this day and age of impersonal and careless treatment, everything seems to be AI now!) I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Good evening spent with friends. Decent food overall. We had a good offer with vouchers so overall pleased. Portion sizes not massive but average for the dish.

Auug 24 - Just visited Friday evening - very very busy so quite a wait for each course but apart from that, everything else was great. Big shout out to Declan for sorting out a table reservation issue for us, the ever attentive waitress Leasa and front of house meeter/greeter Kelly. Will definitely be back.

This is a lovely and friendly Beefeater! The staff are great although service cancelled be a little slow at busier times. On average, I find a 3 course meal takes 2 to 3 hours here, from starter to dessert. They give you plenty of time to order, nothing is rushed. Coffee is offered after the meal. The background music isn't too loud, it's nice to listen to, but a little outdated. It suits the atmosphere here, which is always brilliant. The Oast is a large pub. It has a ground floor bar area (with TV), accessed by one step up, and a large upper section that is accessed in places by sets of 3 or 4 stairs. The handrails always feel a bit sticky (maybe they are supposed to be?) but the tables are always clean. There's space between tables, so each table isn't too near another. Drinks: The bar has a decent selection of tap beers, with Doombar on tap or bottled. It has a good selection of spirits and soft drinks, including zero alcohol beers too. Table water is available upon request. They offer free refills of low sugar/sugar free draft soft drinks ("Zero" drinks) with your meal. Food: The food is good! It's a decent menu of steaks, burgers and pub meals, all cooked well. In particular, the steaks are good here. It is a Beefeater after all! The cooking of the steaks is consistently good; you'll get the temperature you ask for 4/5 times, plus they taste really good too. The mixed grill is happily more of a challenge than a meal, but I guess this depends on your appetite! Please note that even though this is a Beefeater, there is a good selection of vegetarian food and there are vegan options too, including meat alternatives. It's a clean pub with clean facilities and is perfect for a cup of tea or coffee and lunch too. The servers here are friendly and well trained. They know the menu and are attentive but not overly so. They won't make you feel rushed when deciding what to order. You get your drinks quite quickly, ordered from your table after you are seated when having a meal. You can lower the cost of your meals here with a Beefeater card. It provides you with vouchers that are relevant and actually offer decent discounts. For example, my family (of 6) uses vouchers for free starters and desserts. In all, you won't find fine cuisine here but what you do get is a good meal at a reasonable price and an atmosphere that's very enjoyable. People always seem to enjoy their time here! Pros: Big tables for big families and tables away from the bar area and speakers too. I'd definitely recommend booking a table (book online or phone), especially on a Sunday afternoon. There's nothing to entertain children here, although this is subjective! The outside tables are in a high-enough fenced area, so young children can't run into the carpark. There's smoking allowed outside and ashtrays provided on the tables. Music is played from an outside speaker. It's really nice outside on a sunny day! The roof provides part shelter from the rain (it doesn't extend over the tables) and there's a door that takes you in/out of the bar area, more convenient than using the main entrance. The main entrance takes you directly to the 'wait to be seated' desk, where you're greeted quickly. Cons: Not many! The size of the Ladies toilet cubicles are a somewhat narrow. The salad is a little boring, it really needs a dressing! Very unfortunately, Whitbread is considering closing some Beefeaters in the Fareham and Portsmouth area, including this one. The manager and staff tell me they are currently waiting to hear if they will close or not. I really hope it doesn't close as there aren't many alternatives in the area. Not only that, this is a well-run community house and it certainly doesn't deserve to be closed.

We regularly come to the Oast & Squire for a quick meal. The food is OK; it's quick, cheap and filling. The real attraction for us is the super-friendly staff who work extremely hard and are clearly not fully appreciated by the Beefeater management. I suspect the Oast & Squire will not survive the cull, but I am absolutely certain that the really energetic and eternally cheerful staff will be quickly employed and go on to better things.

Enjoyed our Sunday Roast Our Server Sam was excellent.

Not good really food looked like it had been microwaved on warm and it's not cheap we have been to far better places with good home cooking for the same price!! Just saying

Not particularly fond of the reduced menu and limited choice. Had to book a very early reservation because apparently the restaurant was fully booked and yet throughout our visit it was pretty much empty as was the car park.

Sorry but when we first came here a few years ago this place was really busy. Now it all feels a bit sad. The greeter was distinctly unhappy but the waitresses were at least trying to be cheerful. You can see dust on surfaces.

Extremely pleasant and welcoming

Came for a big family dinner to celebrate, was a lovely atmosphere and a fantastic time. Most of us ordered steaks, which were absolutely delicious. Big thanks to our waitress clare.

Thank goodness I'm on a diet because the food was terrible. Mushy wet corn on the cob. Dry bland ribs and triple tasteless chips . Forget the potato cheese starter. Bluuuuuuur . Chicken was nice, moretti beer was nice, honey mustard sauce was good and the sticky toffee pudding was good . Nuf said.

Popped in for lunch with a friend we both ordered from the new lunch menu under £8 deal . Great value and was delicious 😋 also decided to have a brownie after and that was yummy . Will be back

Came here for Lunch Today. and I had Steak, Eggs and Chip which I enjoyed, the service was good with friendly staff and the Atmosphere was nice.

Eaten here previously and always been great value and great food, tonight however was not such a great experience. Ordered rib eye cooked medium, arrive d well done and fries luke warm. Waitress immediately took away and brought back a rib eye which in my opinion was the same steak still well done and dry and had my cut in it from the first time, it was suggested the chef had cut to check cooked medium. This was clearly still well done, which waitress acknowledged, not wanting to cause a fuss carried on, waitress referred to manager and meal was taken off the bill. Dessert then arrived and espresso was not hot, and swapped over, clearly not my night. With this primarily being a steak house cooking a steak medium should be straight forward. Will give this Beefeater another chance given previous experiences but the kitchen team let you down last night.

Excellent service, very attentive and friendly. Food very good and a interesting wine list. We were looked after by Caroline who is simply the best.

Always a good place to eat. Booking is recommended. A shame it has been put up for sale so the consortium that owns Beefeater can concentrate on its hotel chains. Will continue to trade until sold. I have been using here for 20+ yrs and would highly recommend eating here before it goes.

Meal after a long day travelling and visiting Sheffield Park, we were late for our booking but they were fine. Manager was very helpful and took the child order straight away, waitress was not over friendly was ok. Food was fine.

Can’t fault the friendly servers, but the food was worse than average. The Sunday roast (beef, which is meant to be their speciality) was no better than the frozen supermarket ready meals, very disappointing. The kids menu also looked like it was frozen food reheated.

Is it my imagination or have the prices shot up and the portion sizes shrunk with the 2018 Christmas menu ?

First time there and unfortunately the waitresses were unprofessional, snobby attitudes and dismissive.

We arrived early so we could pop into the bar and get drinks prior to sitting at our table . Once we were seated in the restaurant the lovely Leesa took our orders, engaging with the child on our table whilst she ordered her food . She was very professional , welcoming and attentive . Sparodically touching base with us checking on how we were getting on and whether we required our drinks replenishing. All the food was well presented , nicely cooked and delivered at a good pace . I highly recommend this establishment as it never fails to deliver top class service along with tasty reliable food .

Fantastic place. Steaks seasoned perfectly. Great service too, considering was a large group of 17. Everyone's food was hot and all served at same time. Definitely recommend.

An expensive way to get out of doing the washing-up. Burgers were cooked-well, but essentially paying double for the same from Wetherspoon.

Service is so slow and it was really quiet, Don't mind waiting a while when a place is busy, but there was only 3 tables in the whole restaurant. The food itself was fine, usual basic pub grub but just waiting around for so long for food to arrive, then for plates to be cleared and then for one of the staff to come take the order for afters. Some of the staff were nice but others seemed like they didn't want to be there. I can see why it's so quiet during half term. Also prices were expensive and they had no specials as advertised on their website.

I hate to be rude, but the Sunday roast was awful. Nothing nice about it at all. Not enough gravy and the potatoes were like frozen ones. Not fluffy or crispy. One tiny parsnip and peas and carrots only. Very disappointing for the price we paid. Service was great though from Declan. He was very busy rushing about but was very professional and well mannered. Maybe the main menu is better?

I thought the chips and burger I got was the worst ever . Especially for the price. I paid £16.99 and I think it was the worst meal I’ve ever had in a restaurant ..! The atmosphere for a Saturday night was Dire, as there was hardly anyone in the restaurant ( which tells you a lot) but I thought let me give it a go. I would NOT recommend telling my friends to go here.. and tell them to avoid coming here..! The burger I asked to be well done, and it came back Burnt with NO taste and the bacon was small with a very small bap, it was actually disgusting and a complete waste of my hard earned Money..! This place was a shambles and a poor excuse for a reastaurant

Mother's Day. Booked a table for my parents and from working in hospitality in the past and knowing how manic Mothers day can be was sceptical about the food and service we received. The whole experience was nothing short of excellent. The staff were very busy but still extremely friendly and went over and beyond to provide a great service. This included the two (I think I saw) duty managers who were brilliant too. The food was outstanding. All 3 of us had piping hot food and all meals were cooked to perfection so we'll done to the chefs. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and all the customers I saw seemed to be having a great time. Don't know why I haven't been here before but we will be returning very soon. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Went in for Sunday lunch, had a gluten free half chicken roast which was massive and very tasty. Service was good and we had 25% from the meerkat site.

My wife and I went for a meal today, friendly greeting at the door. Taken to our table. Dri k orders taken and brought quickly. Our waitress Caroline was very good. She was friendly and very efficient. We were very well looked after. Food was good. Overall a very pleasant experience. Thank you.

We made a booking for 7.30 and were unfortunately running late. This was no problem at all and we were warmly welcomed. One member of our party has a disability and staff were quick to acknowledge this and immediately checked to see if the table selected was suitable. We could not fault the food and service, our waitress was warm, friendly and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. It was so nice to feel valued, without being rushed at the end if our meal. Value for money and we will definitely be returning. Thank you.

Visited the Oast and Squire on Wednesday 21st February 24, and again myself and 9 of my friends had a great evening. Everyone 's food was well cooked . But what made the evening, was our lovely waitress Caroline. Caroline always goes above and beyond our expectations.,very helpful and attentive. We come to the restaurant about 7 times a year and always have good food and excellent service Also all the staff there are very helpful and friendly.

The restaurant was fairly empty being a rainy Wednesday. The staff were very friendly and helpful, providing a good service which is why I gave it a Two Rating. I was not very hungry and thought I would have two starters instead of a main course as I hate wasting food by leaving half of it! Chose the Breaded Mushrooms Served with BBQ Sauce and Crispy Calamari with Fresh Chilli and ’74 Spicy Mayo. Terrible! The button mushrooms were chopped up and the small fragments were heavily coated, the latter providing the bulk of the food. Only three were complete but tiny mushrooms. The calamari were also tiny, the "rings" of the tentacles smaller than my little finger. I cannot comment on any of the other courses but, bearing in mind I was and still am biased, I'm not impressed with what my companions were eating. Will not go there again.

Birthday meal with my husband He ordered steak which was lovely, i ordered chicken and ribs. The ribs were vile there was hardley any meat , usualy there is so much juicy meat that falls.off . the bone sadley not this time . After trying to cut through the ribs i gave up and ate some of the chicken till.i came across some blood in it . I stopped eating straight away . Hope i dont get sick later. The waitress took.it to show the kitchen and returned with dessert menus. I said no thanks well have the bill.please the meal was ruined. She wasnt happy when i said i wasnt paying for a meal i couldnt eat . I said i ate some chips and some chixken till.i found the blood. She said she would.ask someone for me. She came bk with the bill.which showed a promotion discount. . No real.appology no offer of a replacement meal. No manager I feel disapoited ive been eating with my family in this beefeater for many years. It has put me off returning if im honest. I just sat there while my husband finished his meal as she had taken mine to kitchen and didnt come.bk for ages. I went home and had some toast i was still hungry. All.my revews have been good . Sadly today was a total.let down. 🙄

Back again for a roast . Had the Sharing roast Lamb and Beef with upgraded Cauliflower Cheese . Food was tasty and hot only thing I would say would be warm up the plates as the food goes cold quickly. Great service from James ty

6 of us went for a meal and had fabulous service from the moment we arrived, all the staff were friendly, attentive and really couldn’t do enough for us. All the meals were great. We all left very full and happy!!! Thank you to the staff.
