6 of us Ladies visited today 11 March for breakfast for a friends birthday. Staff are so welcoming. Service was great, sorry didn't ask the name of our waiter but he was very friendly. We all chose full English breakfast, which was lovely and accompanied by a huge pot of tea for 2 of us which was excellent. Thankyou, we all had a fabulous time and will return.

Please be aware that if you sit in the bar area you incur a service charge. Came to The Nook for the first time yesterday. Ordered two cocktails and two glasses of wine, charged over £4 for the drinks to be brought to the table. Would have understood the charge if we had ordered food.

I had high expectations for the Nook, but my experience was completely ruined by their unethical approach to customer reviews. During my dinner with my wife, the staff offered me free drinks in exchange for a positive review. This was both insulting and disappointing. First, it made me feel like they assumed I couldn't afford my own drinks, which is both inappropriate and unprofessional. Second, it raises serious concerns about the authenticity of their ratings. If they are bribing customers for positive feedback, how can anyone trust the reviews? This is misleading to the public and completely undermines the credibility of the restaurant. As good restaurant should earn its reputation through quality food and service, not by manipulating reviews. I won't be recommending The Nook to anyone looking for an honest dining experience.

A Pretentious Dining Disaster: Timely Arrival: We arrived promptly at 20:35, just before our 20:45 reservation. The evening commenced promisingly enough, with a swift seating and the waitress offering water. And that’s where the semblance of decency ended. Managerial Mishap: Barely five minutes in, a gentleman—likely the manager—decided to grace us with his presence, inquiring if we were ready to order. How quaint. We requested a few more minutes to properly acquaint ourselves with the menu, given our brief seating. His response? A hasty, dismissive “Well, you need to hurry up; the kitchen closes at 20:45.” Ah, the irony—allowing a reservation at closing time and then chiding the patrons for it. Truly, a masterclass in hospitality. Culinary Comedy: Undeterred by this initial display of rudeness, we proceeded to order. My partner, being gluten intolerant, requested the gluten-free chicken. What we received was an absolute marvel: “chicken pasta without the pasta.” A stroke of genius, really. Stripping the dish of its integral component and presenting it as an “alternative” is nothing short of culinary brilliance. Perhaps next time, we’ll be served a steak sandwich minus the bread. Atmospheric Atrocities: As if the evening couldn’t be salvaged, we were placed next to a table with an unpressed, wrinkled white tablecloth. Despite the shoddy setup, we did find solace in the extremely courteous doorman and the talented pianist who provided a rare bright spot in an otherwise dismal evening. Ultimate Assessment: - Food: 0 (Complete failure in addressing dietary restrictions) - Atmosphere: 1 (For the pianist, though marred by sheer negligence) - Service: 0 (Rudeness achieved new heights) Conclusion: Do yourself a favor and avoid this establishment. It's a remarkable feat of disservice in the guise of fine dining. Save your time, money, and dignity.

A Masterclass in Pomposity and Poor Service If you enjoy being spoken to like an inconvenience and served a plate of sauce in the name of "gluten-free alternatives," then by all means, book a table at Nook. From the moment we arrived for our 8:45pm reservation, we were treated with barely concealed contempt. Instead of a warm welcome, we were told—before even sitting down—to hurry up and order. Because, apparently, the kitchen operates on a timer rather than customer service. The menu, while trying desperately to be trendy, fails spectacularly when it comes to dietary needs. Their interpretation of gluten-free? Removing anything remotely resembling food. No alternative, no effort—just a sad, lonely plate of sauce. When questioned, the staff seemed irritated that we'd dare ask for something edible. Speaking of the staff, they are the dictionary definition of dismissive and disinterested. Grim expressions, clipped responses, and an attitude that suggests they'd rather be anywhere else. They exude the kind of arrogance usually reserved for Michelin-starred establishments—except here, it's entirely unwarranted. The one saving grace of this experience was the talented pianist, whose music provided a much-needed distraction from the appalling service, and the doorman, who was the only person all evening who managed to be remotely pleasant. If you’re looking for a night of good food and hospitality, go elsewhere. Nook is nothing more than a pretentious, overpriced disappointment, where the only thing served with enthusiasm is condescension.

This place should work but it doesn't. Saturday night and most tables were empty but still the bar service is so slow. The bar tenders look like they want to be somewhere, anywhere but there and by the time we got served so did we. What's needed is table service, and some staff who look like they want to be there. I can't see how this restaurant is going to stay open which will be a real shame as it could be fabulous.

I had an afternoon tea with two friends there, the food was great but unfortunately customer service less so. We arrived on time and were told that our table was being cleared, could we please wait by the bar. After 10 minutes of waiting, with noone coming to see us or offering us a drink, it became clear that the "table being cleared" had not been true, and I had to go back to ask what was going on. Eventually we were given drinks on the house, and another 5 minutes later taken to our table. I understand that mistakes happen, but when they do, I expect a place that advertises itself as an elevated experience to treat its guests with more care than what we experienced. We felt invisible until I complained. When we did get to our table, it took a while to get our hot drinks and food - around 45 minutes from the time we had booked. Once past that terrible start, the service was ok. It took a while to get our orders in, and we also had to wait a while to pay. But when the cream and jam were forgotten, they were brought to us immediately. In terms of food was great, it was the best afternoon tea I've had in Cheltenham so far. The scones (two each) were big and crumbly as you would expect. The little cakes (choux bun with cream, mini carrot cake) were nice, especially the gateau - which looked like it had gelatine in it, but was in fact vegetarian, a plus! There was also a rhubarb posset which was delicate and pleasant. The sandwiches were nothing special, but just fine. The tea and coffee both really good.

Sorry to say, but this experience was chaotic today. After waiting 20 minutes for a pot of tea I then waited 45 minutes for the wrong food to be brought to the table twice and eventually served a salad in a cardboard box, even though i asked for eat in, and the box contains nothing but a huge potato salad and some limp green leaves with no dressing. That is not a salad box. When i asked about possibly a tomato salad i was brought a cut up tomato. Really very chaotic. Maybe try to do a few less things a bit better rather than spread the options so wide.

The service was unfortunately slow but when there was a problem with the food it was quickly rectified with no argument. A Stellar Family Celebration Experience at The Nook On Five. We recently had the pleasure of celebrating a significant family event at The Nook on 5 , and I can confidently say it was an extraordinary experience that exceeded all our expectations. Hosting a party of 28 people can be challenging, but the team made it look effortless. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the attentive staff who ensured our large group was comfortably seated and well-accommodated. The ambiance of the restaurant is both elegant and cozy, creating the perfect atmosphere for our celebration. The menu offered a diverse array of dishes, each more enticing than the last. We were particularly impressed with the quality and presentation of the food. Every dish was a culinary masterpiece. The flavors were rich, well-balanced, and absolutely delicious. Special mention must be made of the service the bride & groom received which left everyone at the table raving. The service was impeccable throughout the evening. Despite our large group, the staff managed to provide timely and courteous service without a hitch. They were attentive to our needs, ensuring drinks were topped up and plates were cleared promptly. Their professionalism and warmth added an extra layer of enjoyment to our evening. What truly set The Nook on Five apart was their ability to cater to the diverse dietary preferences and requirements of our group. From vegan options to gluten-free dishes, they had something for everyone, and each dish was met with enthusiastic approval. In addition to the wonderful food and service, the restaurant’s attention to detail in decorating our space and accommodating our specific requests made our celebration truly special. They went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of the evening was perfect, creating lasting memories for our family. Overall, they provided an outstanding dining experience that we will cherish for years to come. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion, especially for those looking to host large gatherings. Their exceptional food, top-notch service, and inviting atmosphere make this Cheltenham restaurant a standout choice for any celebration. Thank you, for making our family celebration unforgettable!

They didn’t have a steak knife in the whole place, just a crappy blunt thing. The steak was of such bad quality you could hardly cut through it. The table was shaking while all 3 of us tried to cut through it. So bad. The meat was terrible and chewy almost choking trying to swallow it, sides were tiny and basic. Not sure what happened to this place. Had been a few times and had brilliant food but came recently and everything had gone down hill! Food took 1.5 hours to arrive (blamed on a big group that had finished and left half an hour before...) the food itself was dreadful. It was poorly cooked but also the food quality was noticeably lower. The owners seem to be cutting costs and hoping people won't notice. Everyone is noticing.

Went with my other half for a few cocktails, and was very excited, as I’m a bartender who was interested by the look of their menu (specifically the Aviation, which is a hard drink to find around town). However the drink in question wasn’t made with the traditional recipe (however it was still delicious, all the drinks were). The main problem was the customer service. For a venue that seethes classiness, what we got was disappointing. The bar staff were unexperienced, which is fine as at least they were friendly, however I was asking for some cocktails that weren’t on the menu (it states on their menu that the staff are trained in a wide variety of classics) when a supervisor or manager (I assume) interrupted and very rudely and passive-aggressively told me to order a drink on the menu. Very displeased with their hospitality and customer service, as they didn’t even try to find me a drink, or go any sort of extra mile to make us feel welcome. Thoroughly disappointed, and for the price of their drinks unacceptable. Next time I’ll make the drinks myself at home.

This was our first time ordering from Yangtze. We heard really good things about this place, so we decided to check it out. I have to say, the food was incredibly disappointing. The ratio of meat to onions and peppers in all dishes was absurdly appalling. As a person who loves authentic Chinese food, this did not need even meet the basic standards. It was awful. I won’t be ordering from here again. The flavours were bland, and when ordering a meat dish, the dish was at least 80% onions and peppers. However, I did appreciate the complementary prawn crackers. Sadly, just that isn’t going to be enough to entice me back into this establishment.
