Terrible. Small portions. Poor service and the food was very bland.

Me duele la boca pensando en ello. El personal era muy amable y servicial. Recomendaría encarecidamente una visita.

Por primera vez en cinco años, algunas personas me habían dicho que no era tan bueno como solía ser. Tenían razón, no era tan bueno, ¡era mejor! Absolutamente fabulosa comida, un gran servicio amable y a un precio muy razonable en mi opinión. Los cuatro estuvimos de acuerdo en que era probablemente una de las mejores comidas chinas que habíamos comido (y hemos comido muchas comidas chinas durante muchos años). Absolutamente de primera clase!

Some dishes were very good, others were less so. Service was just lack lustra

We have eaten at the Orchard Garden plenty of times and ordered takeaways. This time, we ordered a takeaway and felt i had to write a review as we were very disappointed. We ordered from the menu over the phone and were given a price, it was only when I put the phone down that I realised it was £15 more than what we had added it up to from the menu. I rang back but was told the prices had gone up and to check the website. Everything had gone up. For example, each meal had gone up by £2.00 upwards. After adding it up again, we were still overcharged by £6. The order arrived very quickly and was hot, but nobody enjoyed their meal. Each meal was quite tasteless, and the beef was tough to the point that I couldn't cut into it. Sadly, we will never order from here again as it's overpriced and the food was not worth the money.

Uno pensaría que un restaurante chino “de buena reputación” sabría lo que es un chow mein... Tengo un tazón de fideos. Un pequeño tazón de fideos. Cuando respetuosamente desafié el plato, confirmando que había pedido chow mein, no solo fideos, fui descortésmente puesto en mi lugar con un ‘que ES chow mein’. Vaya, todos esos restaurantes en los que me he hartado deben estar malinterpretándolo🤣 Basura absoluta.

You would think a ‘reputable’ Chinese restaurant would know what a chow mein was…I got a bowl of noodles. A small bowl of noodles. When I respectfully challenged the dish, confirming that I’d ordered chow mein, not just noodles, I was impolitely put in my place with a flippant ‘that IS chow mein’. Wow, all those other restaurants I’ve had it in must be getting it badly wrong🤣 Absolute rubbish. Measly portions&over-inflated prices for what is very, very average chinese food. And that’s being generous. Used to be a fabulous restaurant, with a buzzing atmosphere - now changed beyond belief. Pity we didn’t go to Jumbo’s…complete waste of hard-earned money.

Para llevar £ 28 - pollo agridulce y arroz frito. Crujiente carne de res y arroz. Chips. Galletas de gambas. ¡Son 7 libras cada artículo! Las comidas apenas tenían salsa, la carne era Rick duro y las patatas fritas se habían calentado. Rango absoluto.

I'm a regular customer here while in the area with work. Never had a bad meal and the staff are always kind and friendly.

I was charged £72 for 1 and 1/2 crispy duck very overcharged I won’t be going again this is not the first time I have thought there was something wrong with my bill each time I have asked for a copy of the itemised bill I have been told if I wanted one I would have to take a phot myself not easy when you are with friends

Fantastic food and staff very nice Chinese restaurant. Everything cooked fresh for you the staff are very friendly. Not many places to park. has wheelchair access. Would really recommend to anyone.

We've been here plenty of times and were regulars when Stan Hughes owned it, returned tonight for a take away, feel compelled to write a review because Unfortunately we feel that the food has dramatically declined. Not quite sure why it's always so busy, obviously personal tastes can vary but tonight our experience was dreadful, out of 4 of us only 1 ate their food. I ordered fillet steak but it smelt and tasted very fishy, the chicken was dry and tasteless.. I could go on but think you get the idea. Very expensive for what we recieved, definitely nicer restaurants and even chip shops which do tastier, fresher food. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

We ordered a take away for 4 of us and out of the 4 meals only 1 was half decent. The food was awful, the fillet steak smelt and tatsed fishy and the sauce was tasteless. Chicken chow mein was watery and partner left most of it... salt and pepper chicken pieces were not fresh, very dry and again tasteless. Would not recommend, we certainly won't be returning

The current owner has worked here for 18 years under previous owners so he obviously knows what's required. Excellent food and service for our 16 person party. I Really couldn't raise one issue. Been coming here for years and it's still maintains this high level. Thanks for a great night.

Got family takeaway from here this weekend, not good at all. Ordered Satay for 2 of us, it was a green water with chunks of pineapple in, no hint of any satay taste at all. My aunt had chow mein which was the same green water with cabbage floating in it. In fairness my lad had sweet and sour and it was fine, shame the other dishes were so bad. The egg fried rice had no egg in it! Just something orange which none of us could quite work out what it was. A pretty big waste of money, most of it went in the bin.

Our dine in 45th wedding anniversary meal was excellent but my son said his chicken cashew nuts fried rice meal was tasteless, therefore we will try another Chinese restaurant next time.

Food was quite nice. Especially the salt and pepper chicken and the sweet and sour chicken. We had the chilli chicken and that was okay. However, for £65 for 2 mains and a starter and soft drinks it was too overpriced. Staff was nice but left us waiting a while.

Very disappointed, we were a party of 5 and bill arrived with a £60 discrepancy. They had charged our table £15 more for a seafood platter, additional costs of starters and also charged for doubles when we had asked for singles. The staff tired to rectify by saying it was the bar staff that had caused the discrepancy but clearly they had tried to charge more for food also thinking we would not notice. Will not be returning

Amazing food , I attended a leaving celebration here last Friday and thought the food was absolutely gorgeous , I brought my partner back here tonight , food is amazing , fresh , hot and gorgeous flavours ….. the crispy chilli chicken and the chefs special char Sui is to die for …. The staff are so welcoming , David our waiter was so chatty and helpful , he recommended dishes to us … was warm and lovely smile … this is definitely our new favourite :) thank you new orchard garden from a very happy couple xx

Been here a number of times but somewhat disappointed this on this occasion. Food was good but our party of four were still hungry after finishing four £24 banquets. We're were given four of everything regarding the starters, one barbecue rib each, one prawn toast, one spring roll. The duck was fine but were given only 6 small pancakes. The three main courses were served on very small plates to be shared between the four of us, with two small pieces of beef, chicken and pork each and nowhere near enough rice for everyone. The soup starter, ice cream dessert were ok and the service was fast with waiters being attentive at all times. This was six years ago and the same problems exist today 2024, nowhere near enough food served.

Came for my Wife's birthday.. The food, the service, the staff were fantastic.. The best Chinese in Liverpool.

Not been here for 3 years but was told it had changed hands so me and my husband went, was a bit chilly were we sat the waiter noticed this and put the air con off and heating on, ordered a selection of starters and I asked for Malaysian chilli sauce which I got, I order crispy lamb as a main which came out 10 mins after my husband main meal I think they forgot as it was very dry , but I ate it as I was so hungry, on getting the bill I noticed they charged me £2 for a dipping sauce what’s that about, I’ve never been charged anywhere else for this , I was quite shocked I don’t think I will be returning, the staff were very nice and it was busy at 6.30pm but charging for a dipping sauce is just comical we spent just on £60 , so be aware of this silly charge , I’m not a minge bag but find it hard to comprehend charging for this

Booked the Orchard garden for my son's 18th Birthday. Party of Fourteen People the restaurant delivered a fantastic experience to our table. Lovely venue great service and fantastic food. Highly recommend for a Birthday party meal.

We were treated awful, people were getting prawn crackers when they sat down the lady taking our order told young lady there going on their bill, srarters were ok main meal orange chicken was like breaded chicken fillets you get out of freezer in iceland with lemsip over and few slices of orange, large man clearing table clicked his fingers at me to pass him my plate so rude..😡 everyone got hand wipes we did not, we sat chatting while the 2 children finished drinks and we were asked to leave table and go upstairs if we wanted to drink 😡 the only saving grace for service was young guy was lovely never go back. We go out once a month and always say how lovely a night we had well this place was a very rude poor service exeption.

A bog standard Chinese, more like an all you can eat type food. Abit expensive as well

I visited here with my 2 sons and daughter in law the prawn crackers were stale my son doesn’t like to complain but the restaurant itself was freezing we kept our coats on to eat our food we couldn’t get out of there quick enough, Pretty sad but we won’t be returning

This used to be a great restaurant, the owner passed away. Don’t no if someone else took over. Just got a take out £34.00 it was ALFUL, it tasted like a Chippy…….. starters hard and greasy, sweet and sour chicken hard, chilly beef congealed together . NEVER NEVER AGAIN.

Phoned and made a booking for 17 people, requested we asked to be put on one large table or two together. We had 1 large and 1 small table for 17 adults ? The staff were so awful we were just left they didn’t clean tables or ask if needed drinks. Service was a disgrace. When we asked for bill we were left for over half an hour and had to get up and go till as they had forgotten!!! Do not go as service and staff were a disgrace. Lost a lot of custom today

Absolutely disgusted, didn’t have a children’s menu and my baby is so fussy so wouldn’t eat anything from the normal menu, we even tried him with egg fried rice which he wouldn’t eat, so went and got him a sausage out the chippy and they refused to let my 2year old eat it even after we had ordered loads of food. Can’t believe they wanted my child to watch us eat and not have anything. Will never eat there again and anyone with babies/kids who are fussy think twice about going there!!!

If you are thinking about going to this restaurant with children- don’t! You are made to feel extremely uncomfortable straight away. Before we were even sat we was told that the children must stay on their seat! Which I know is standard and expected but we don’t need to be told. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and the service was fast! Which was great. BUT the food was average. It was ALL dry and I felt like it was all warmed up. I don’t think we had anything fresh on our table. Very disappointing! We won’t be going again. Even without children.

The New Orchid Garden is an established Chinese restaurant with a contemporary interior, serving traditional Cantonese cuisine. Fantastic food :D I ordered the springrolls, prawn toast and bbq ribs. I'll begin with the springrolls, absolutely sublime! The umami flavour was bursting and dancing on my tongue. Furthermore the prawn toast had an elegant aroma as if I was standing next to the ocean, perfect amount of oil used to fry the toast not too greasy but not too dry but just the right amount. Also the oil really complimented the toast as the oil conducted the heat of the wok giving it a nice wok hay essence!! Last but not least was none other than the bbq ribs, the spirit of Shanghai engulfed my senses and I had flashbacks when I was a young boy from the rice fields coming home to my late grandmother's cooking, it is simply to die for. Thanks bye.

A warm and welcoming restaurant. We attended as a group of 4 and were blown away by quick service, helpful and attentive staff and delicious meals. Prices were very reasonable for what you'd expect, and the quality was outstanding. We were all delighted and look forward to returning.

Meals expensive for the size of portions, wine expensive, my wife and I used to visit on a regular basis when it was run by the previous owner, we visited as it was under new ownership & it was our wedding anniversary, but after this experience, I doubt if we will ever go back again.

Very nice inside restaurant decor, myself n daughter got banquet for 2 people chicken sweetcorn soup bland no taste, got bbq ribs, spring rolls, n prawn toast, bbq ribs not nice no flavour, spring rolls jus had carrot n bamboo shoots in very bland no taste, n prawn toast big pieces very fishy taste! Had crispy Duck don't know what fat/lard it cooked in not very nice left bad after taste and had smell on it! Main meal sweet n sour pork, grease was separating from sauce didn't taste right, beef green pepper blackbean sauce beef very slimy and taste not nice, Kingprawn ginger spring onion sauce very thick too much cornflour so it was thick and could not taste ginger in it alls could taste was garlic no ginger, yeung chow fried rice very bland no taste and flavour! For pudding 2 scoops vanilla ice-cream n a wafer ok! This place was recommended to me by friends n family but we won't b going again it was our 1st time n our last time! The waiters/ waitress do a good job cater to your every need but you get to feel like you cannot relax and eat as they are waiting for as soon as you put your spoon down they linger!

Went for a family meal to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. We all thought the food was really good and service was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. They made a fuss of my mother in law which she loved. Will definitely be going back again soon.

Visited the restaurant quite a while ago and the food was very nice and the staff were incredibly helpful especially for someone like me who’s Health is not great due to a genetic condition I have. Prices are quite expensive but despite that, it’s not a bad restaurant

The food was excellent as was the service from tje lady at the bar. The waiters, however, were rude and inpatient. The chairs are really uncomfortable and there are too many tables so space is lacking. Ee wrre a party of 14 with space for 8. The new management need to look at thier appeoach.

This is our go to restaurant for every family occasion/birthday as we are local and been visiting since it opened. Came for my mums 80th in January and we were so disappointed that non of us will visit again. The days are gone were you were warmly welcomed made to feel special. We were 10 people and seated on a round table which should not have held more than 8! The tables either side were so close that you were jammed in and if you needed the toilet you had to apologise to your neighbour and ask them to move their chair, so embarrassing! The food is still nice and most staff members lovely but unfortunately it’s not for us anymore. It’s just now a case of how many people can you squeeze in, serve as fast as possible and get out! End of an era!

Just got back from a visit to The New Orchid Garden to celebrate our daughter and her partners engagement. It’s under new ownership and we’ve just had a fabulous meal. The service was excellent and the food was fabulous. Thank you to Stephen and his staff, we will be back again soon.

Had a wonderful night at the new orchid garden tonight. Hadn’t been for a little while, as we felt it had lost the personal touches to guests after Stan passed. We took a chance tonight and it was a wonderful surprise that it has a new owner, someone who is so passionate about the restaurant itself after being there for so long. The food was absolutely delicious as always, a lovely welcome, and the staff were so friendly and sweet and made us laugh all night. As our closest and most local restaurant, we cannot wait to visit more frequently again! Wonderful place!

We had an absolutely wonderful night back at New Orchid Garden. The place has a sparkle back now under the wonderful new owner, the food is delicious as always. The staff are so friendly, helpful and made us smile and laugh all night. We haven’t been for a little while as we felt the place changed a little since Stan went, however tonight under new owner and management, felt like that personal touch was coming back. It is our closest and most local restaurant and we cannot wait to come back!

Had an amazing evening tonight in the orchard garden restaurant. Food was beautiful, staff our amazing always pleasant nothing was to much trouble. We had a Lovley chat with the business owner Stephen who me and my husband remember Stephen waiting on tables when Stan who had the restaurant then ! Been three times and each time the food has got worse, and after the first time I didn't think it could get worse but it has will not be going again if I could give a zero rating I would, chef has a great ability of taking chineese ingredients and creating inedible food

Wow.. fantastic we went for a family get together for our late dad. The staff were fantastic & the food was amazing, the way the restaurant is set out it can be for large groups or for a more personal private evening. Would highl recommend it.

I used to come here when I was a kid under the previous owner - the food used to be amazing. However, I went recently and the food is awful and the quality is very poor. The decor is cheap. There's a chip shop 4 doors down called Chung Ku. I did a taste test and there is such little difference between the two apart from the price. Save your money and go there! What a shame that this once-great neighborhood Chinese has gone downhill.

Very disappointed tonight service was practically non existent! Table booked for 7 taken to our table and left, had to ask for drinks, when we finally ordered we waited nearly an hour for our soup to be brought out and sat for another 40 odd minutes, for the rest of our starters to be brought out! By that time a family of 6 or 7 had arrived opposite to us, we’re seen quickly with drinks and there starters came out just as we we’re getting the rest of ours! I asked for a bowl of prawn crackers because by this time we were really hungry! Yet again no one asked if we’d like a drink, so my husband had to pull the waiter and ask for some drinks, within minutes of finishing we were asked do you want your mains, we said yes as god knows how long we’d have waited, yet again we had to pull the waiter up for a drink! At the same time there were about 3 waiters serving the table opposite and they couldn’t do enough for them! I felt like because there was just the 2 of us we were ignored as we obviously weren’t going to be spending as much money as these big groups! So sorry will not visit again! Service was none existent and a very disappointing experience. Also the food wasn’t that great! And the portion sizes are a lot smaller than previous times we have been.

Rude staff, long wait for food, very overcrowded, cold food when arrived, served out of date beer (twice), no reply from Manager after writing a constructive letter. Money in the till not customers good will.

Booked for 19.30 19.45 told table was 5 minutes. 20.00 the upstairs was extremely uncomfortable and very crowded. Numerous parties had arrived and had been shown to the tables. 20.15 Member of the party asked about the table and was told the occupants were just paying their bill. 20.30 still no communication so again we asked and were told it would be ready soon. 20.45 we finally were taken to the table which was in a corner and very cramped. 21.00 food ordered by which time some of the party were extremely hungry having expected to eat much earlier. Clearly the restaurant had taken far too many bookings. The staff we’re having to work very hard in difficult circumstances. 21.15 the food started to arrive.! I have at this restaurant many many times over the years and 7 members of the party were there for the first time and I suspect the last. Food was OK but not as hot as it should of been. No one seemed to be in charge or taking responsibility for the chaos. I approached the member of staff who at 19.45 had told us 5 minutes and said the way we had been treated was disgraceful and he didn’t seem bothered. Moral of this story is NEVER go on a Saturday.

Visited with a large party of 20 on Sunday.Greeted nicely but from there our dissapiontment started.Service was hurried and abrupt aledgedly saying that we could not split the bill 4 ways probably because they could not be bothered.Orderd 3 separate banquets..starters were take away standard..duck only came with I small plate of julienne veg (I'm a chef to trade)..one small ramekin of hoysin for 6...had to ask for more .Main courses tbh bang average..again take away on a plate and small portions ...was not a fan of receiving our plates with fried rice already on it..not in a nice mould but just walloped on the plate ..poor presentation.Sate was bland with no taste of peanuts and with pineapple in it... sweet and sour chicken not great either and poor portions...beef and green pepper average ..only plus point really was the ribs .Very expensive for what we got , rushed service and we felt rushed out ..and for some reason it went very cold...was the heating turned off..I don't know?Have been before and it was great but this time really dissapointed mayde it was just an off night..but a very expensive off night.... take away served on plates 🫤

Visited as group 5 including 2 children. All staff very welcoming especially Manager Stephen and his Wife. We had a Banquet which was great quality food and we all enjoyed. Recommend this restaurant.

Visited this restaurant with a group of 15. Food was quite bland. Had better from local chippy. One member of staff was rude and impatient. Felt he couldn’t manage a big group. Made us all move seats to fit a high chair in the corner...

Fantastic banquet we had here a few nights ago. Restaurant was spotless and food excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will certainly be returning. Great night with Family. Can be a bit chaotic when there is lots of ppl dining but the staff managed it well. It's easier to order a banquet when there is alot of you dining plus its good value for money. Good night all round. Tasty food. They have improved immensely since last time i dined there. Would recommend. The only negative that I would say would be if anyone in your party decides to order separate individual meals + not a banquet like everybody else. You are waiting ages between you receiving your starters + then you receiving your main course. Beside that, fantastic place. Thank u.
