Great atmosphere, great music, great staff.

Perfect small locals battle cruiser where all are welcome. As an out of towner I felt at home sat at the bar with a couple pints talking to whoever stumbled in. Also has a late license.

Bert & Victoria and the team are excellent hosts. A proper old boozer the likes of which are fading into history, but this one is very much alive. Popular with locals but not clique and very welcoming to strangers. You're struggle to find a better welcome in Hove.

Not many of these kind of pubs left. Clearly serves a community, plenty of regulars but the atmosphere is welcoming and bar staff brilliant and super friendly. Didn't eat but the crisps were delicious! Will be back.

What a quirky pub - one of the last few remaining in Brighton. It has the "frog in the hole" game and feels very snug and homely inside.

Not a pub to take a lady to but excellent beer. The punters (not customers)and barman have all seen a lot of life and it has taken its toll. Very friendly though. A 1960s pub catering for the older male as long as your catering wants are crisps and peanuts. I felt quite at home.

"Traditional" pub with eclectic mix of people, beer is always excellent, great pub for live music. Can get busy when live music, but always friendly. If you like traditional English beer and pub music then you should visit. Don't expect to eat here, this pub is for drinking in.

I appreciate the music and the effort management trying ti achieve through entertainment. HOWEVER , I had bad experience from the bar tender with folded head like a pirate man, he is and explorer , goes around with the car machine and when see you dress well presuming that you are rich and not bothered. And ask you to pay again claiming the card didn’t go through. I paid cash to the other bar tender lesbian. And I did not use card so here you go right on scam. A person was pretending to be a manger. Finally I found out he is not. Be careful with that pub. No is slightly normal. They just want to get you and your money. Who is the manager? We never know. They are all in it it’s a big scam. Ladies going around collecting money for the band. It’s all big scam. Management should pay the band. Stay away from that place.

What a great find! I was walking past in the early afternoon and decided to stop for a half. Very friendly barman and a quirky interior. Very reasonably priced beer to boot!!! I'll go back on a night out for sure.

A proper traditional British pub with a great atmosphere and a very friendly neighborhood local vibe to it. They have live music regularly, which I've heard is always great and draws a crowd. Big thanks to Bertie & Victoria for making this gem shine 🙌 a new favourite for sure x

Hidden bar we came across in Hove, UK... well worth a visit, with loads of atmosphere. Victoria is the bar lady ( an English rose ) whom makes you feel really welcome !! Hoping to go back again ...

THE best pub in Hove for live music! Well supported music nights happen 4 nights a week! The open mic on a Monday is brilliantly hosted by Theseus Gerard and draws a broad spectrum of artists who are all welcomed and appreciated. Sometimes the standard of talent can blow you away! The staff are wonderful and the drinks are very reasonably priced. No food here but that would just take up space when people mainly come here for the music and the interesting characters who frequent this gem of a bar.

A great little pub, when we visited we were lucky enough to get the last table and there was a great, friendly atmosphere, we had a couple of pints here before heading off for dinner.

Such a lovely old school proper pub. Used to come here after work when my team had finished late. So welcoming. Recently visited here for the first time in years and it's just as nice. Highly recommend if you want a good pint with some nice people.

I mean, I went into this pub once for one drink. Friendly staff, but small. Gives off the vibe of a local pub, but didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all.

What a little gem. Great evening in a lovely pub with a fabulous live jazz band. All the characters from far and wide seemed to be there. Will definitely return next time we visit Brighton.

Such a classic boozer. This is how I remember certain pubs in the 70's and 80's. Great music, great welcome. I really shouldn't say anything about this place as I don't want you to come here! It's our secret and you'll find somewhere else... Have you tried the Sussex?

Great pub with a good range of reasonably priced drinks that often has live music. Kind of place you can pop in by yourself for a quick pint and spend the rest of the day at, talking to interesting people and enjoying the friendly laid-back atmosphere.

My idea of a local and I come here every time I visit Hove. Good range of beer and friendly people easily chat to you. Small so I have avoided busy periods and I hope for them eventually their entertainmdmts can resume.

The Neptune is a traditional local pub with a regular varied clientele. Prior to the pandemic it was a great music venue with live music at weekends and on Wednesday. The beer is excellent a fine pint of Harvey's is just the ticket after a bracing walk on the seafront.

So I get that the location is fantastic - over looking the beach etc. But I think I can safely say that this is the most unwelcome I’ve ever felt in a pub. I tried last week to make a booking for dinner for this Sunday and was told I had to call back between 11 and 11:30. Weird, but okay, I can do that. I called back the next day at 11am only to be told that that I could only call on the day I wanted the booking. That wound me up as what if I didn’t get in? It’s my wife’s birthday weekend and I wanted something nice. In the end I forgot and we turned up on Sunday and were told that the kitchens shut Sunday evening. Why couldn’t they have told me that on the phone? So we decided to stay for a drink only to be told that we could only stay for 1 hour! It wasn’t busy and there were quite a few free tables, but we got put along a shelf opposite the bar which made talking hard. The landlady then kept telling us to move in and when we asked for a second drink said, “Well, you’ve been here for more than an hour, so make it quick”. There was absolutely no one waiting for our seat as it was a rainy Sunday early evening. Our friend then heard someone phone asking to book a table and she asked “Are you local?”. Absolutely zero chance of ever returning which is a shame as I had such high hopes.

A Maze Ing.......... This has got to be the best kept secret in Hove. No not Hove, on the whole South coast. Really friendly staff, great Ales and the most wonderful musicians. 5 nights a week there is music for everyone. A proper Sussex pub, in the style of 30 years ago, thanks in no small part to the publican. Nice one 🧡🧡🧡

I was lucky enough to have this pub at the end of my road for over a year. There has never been any one time when their friendly bar staff and clientele didn't make me feel welcome. I always got chatting with new people - about everything and nothing - feeling very welcome and part of the pub! Regular great live music, great beers and dog friendly makes it even more special. Small but cute and 2 minutes away from Hove seafront! And if you get hungry a fish and chips, and lovely cute Thai mini restaurant with home made food are just round the corner :-)
