Food is a little pricey but worth it as it’s quite tasty and portions are generous, especially with the fish and chips. Lovely pub however the parking rules let it down as the signage isn’t clear and no doubt will catch some people out.

First time visiting the Nelson for a long time . The service was great, even though they were busy and the food was fabulous. We both had the Sunday roast . Really generous portions and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. We will be back soon . Note - you don’t need to pay for the car parking we weren’t aware of this but they did take it off our bill so at least we know for next time .

I will never visit this pub again. There is a controlled paid parking lot adjacent to the pub. On the day I visited the app was not accepting payment for myself or my friend on separate phones. The machine was also out of service. We wanted to pay before going for a walk prior to eating at the pub but because this wasn’t possible we left it. We ended up eating a meal at the pub after our walk. I ended up with a £170 parking fine which was unfairly given as I had proof of being a patron at the pub, where it is free to park as long as you are a patron-this is the entire reason it is a controlled parking lot in the first place, to ensure spaces for patrons. I contacted the pub for assistance and no reply, it ended up going to debt collection which is absolutely ridiculous especially considering we made real attempts to pay to parking fine and were also actual patrons of the pub. Thank you for nothing, your system is wank.

So disappointed! Have been here for lunch a couple of times, always been excellent. Tonight service was so poor, slow, lacking knowledge about the food. I will never use this pub again because of the parking situation. Went for a meal and a few weeks later had a parking ticket. Rang the pub and they checked I had actually been for the meal at that time but then refused to cancel it. I appalled and surprisingly it failed. I refuse to pay the fine.

They use a corrupt parking company for the parking. Be careful. They will not waiver your fine even if you prove purchase. £60 fine reduced from £100. It is ridiculous.

Absolutely ridiculous new parking charges brought into place and a quick pint turned into £100 fine because of a faulty machine. The company hired to monitor the car park are an absolute joke. Will never be returning due to this and I know so many others who have also been fined, don’t dare to try and reason with anyone in the bar though as you’ll be barred!

Sorry but this is last straw for us. We’ve been customers here for 15 odd years. This car parking situation is diabolical. 1st time we have registration as requested. Which we have. Few weeks later received parking fine anyway. Waitress possibly took the registration wrong. We appealed surprise surprise the appeal failed. Recently went again, told waitress registration. She explained now they don’t do it like that and I had to buy a ticket. Great. Went back out to buy ticket. But by now over 10 minutes had passed. So guess what another parking ticket. Totally ffs annoying. I’m not going again. Old vol is just down the road and everything’s better there. And none of this faff.

Food was excellent (I had the 12 hr slow cooked braised beef cottage pie, from the specials) it was everything I could have wished for. The downside, to our visit, was the wait for our food to be brought out. 45 minutes for three mains is a pretty long time to wait. I'm aware, and to some extent agree, with the argument that, it's all freshly cooked and no 'pinging' involved, but 45 minutes....... Would definitely go here again though (having said that).

Staff were lovely but my food was horrible. They need to revise the recipe for the paneer makhani as they clearly grill or fry the paneer and then simply put the sauce on when paneer in curries should simply be cooked in the sauce. It ended up with the paneer being incredibly tough, chewy and flavourless to the point I couldn't eat it. The rice was also cooked poorly with no flavour and the poppadom was absolutely covered in oil. The rest of my table mostly enjoyed their food but if they can't cook a paneer curry then it shouldn't be on the menu

This pub should have a big ‘drinkers beware’ sign outside saying ‘THIS IS NOT A PUB’. I’ve been using the Nelson for over 40 years but we’ve not been in for a while because we’ve been told to move to make way for those who are buying more than a few drinks on more than one occasion. We went in on Sunday, because we heard that they had changed the management, we bought two drinks and sat down in two empty seats, within a few minutes the young lady from behind the bar came to us and said, quite abruptly, ‘I need this table for a booking’ and whilst I was waiting for a please/thank you or a suggestion as to where we might take the drinks she had just taken our money for, she just said ‘in a few minutes’ and walked off!!! I was gobsmacked, the management may have changed but they are still employing staff with the people skills of a traffic warden, only this particular young lady was more offensive! I suppose you could just accept the fact that, generally speaking, they don’t want ‘the drinkers’ these days and buy a sausage roll or something to try and bribe them onto treating you like a ‘customer’, but given the fact that this place must be one of the most expensive places to drink outside of London, (the wine is astronomical), my advice would be to take your hard earned elsewhere and don’t use the Nelson at all. I’ll keep a look out for the next change of management.

This pub is a gem, especially for outdoor enthusiasts and dog lovers. The outdoor area is perfect for a relaxed time, and the fact that it's dog-friendly is a huge bonus! Nonetheless, the overall experience is outstanding, making this pub a must-visit for a delightful day out. 🍻🌞🐶🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A very cosy little pub. Accessible from the main road in Burton Joyce or via the pedestrian crossing over the train line from the river trent side. The food looked and smelled fantastic. Staff were a little slow and, to be honest, a tad miserable. But it didn't take away from the lovely atmosphere. Prices were shocking! For a pint of Guinness and a large house red wine, it was £16.40 The wine 🍷 turned out to be £11 a glass! It was a nice glass of wine, but it can be purchased for £13.99 a bottle online ( so it wasn't a premium wine ). It was massively overpriced. We didn't stop forward second drink! Other than that I would recommend this little pub, it's nice. Just ask how much a glass of wine is before committing to bankrupting yourself! I will visit again.

Spotted their sign advertising that they were doing breakfast again so, having had good experiences before, took the plunge. I really wish I hadn't bothered. The bacon, sausage and black pudding were all pre-cooked and subsequently dry and tasteless. The beans were barely warm and the two fried eggs dropped on top of a piece of bread which was supposed to be toasted, but wasn't. And the pot of tea that came was barely luke warm. I would have said something to the waitress but she never once came near to ask if everything was all right. The restaurant wasn't busy with only one other couple having breakfast so they can't use that as an excuse. At £14 per breakfast, this isn't cheap. Needless to say, I won't be returning soon.
