we were invited back for refreshments after a funeral, well it was terrible to say the least not one member of staff to put us to the room where the food was lying on tables at the side and the 2 urns for tea and coffie nobody was told anything as there was not one person there to ask so it was a family member who took it upon herself to get things moving. i was asked did i want tea and was given a cup of cold tea the urnes were not even switched on, ffs the sandwiches were all dry round the outside and basic rubbishy filled well then we come to the worst little sausage rolls in the history of baking they were disgusting cheep rubish the only thing that was half ok was the scones so owners of this dump get your act together and give folk a better service in the future. 0 out of 10.

The hotel has been taken over, and you can see that it is being refurbished bit by bit. The room was comfortable enough. THE STAFF ARE EXCEPTIONAL. They greet you properly, provide proper service, and make you feel like a welcome guest and not an inconvenience. Now, the real test is how they react when something goes wrong. We had a meal (which was good) that was ruined because I had to remove my daughter from the restaurant due to the behaviour of some locals who were going a bit too far. We left half our meal. I complained the next morning. The owner immediately apologised (took complete ownership, no argument or excuse) of the problem and ensured that our stay was as pleasant as possible. That is proper service and something that you don't see very often. The food was good and generously portioned. A slightly expanded menu would have been good or a dish of the day, but Dingwall is a small rural town, so I can understand why the menu was limited. Wifi was also good Overall, Yes, I will come back.

We spent two midweek nights at The National in January 2024. The lasting impression will be of how friendly and helpful all the staff we met were. Our room was spacious and well equipped; coffee, milk, etc. was replenished and there were fresh towels daily. The breakfasts were excellent, freshly prepared with care and imagination, alongside a generous buffet. On the first night we ate in the hotel restaurant - a limited but adequate choice but again freshly prepared, good quality food served with a smile. There are areas of the hotel in need of some refurbishment but nothing that adversely affected our stay - we were comfortable and well looked after. I genuinely do not know how this level of service can be provided for the price we paid.

Stayed on a Saturday night in a delux double room. A nice room with very modern bathroom. Plenty of gluten free options for dinner and adapted breakfast to ensure gluten free. Even the cafe attached to the hotel had a nice gluten free cake. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only negative was lack of hot water in the shower, even though the sink had hot water.

I believe the hotel is in the process of a refurb ,which is needed in some areas ,but our bedding ,towels etc were clean ,bed comfortable, complimentary hot drinks tray and kettle in our room ,the Highland sea kelp soap, shampoo and shower gel were really nice ,above all of these things though were the helpful staff , especially Leah who was so friendly and kind ,she is a real asset to the hotel ,we enjoyed a few hours in the bar and the food was good too .Thank you from us bikers from Yorkshire .

I unfortunately arrived at a meal time the bar staff told me. The manager told me in a email that they were dealing with another customer. Glad I wasn’t wanting to book in for a stay as the manager thought my complaint of ringing the doorbell 5 times was exaggerated. I had compared it to if there was a fire would they have dealt with the customer first! Word of warning don’t try and see anyone at the hotel during meal times or if they have an imaginary customer!

I booked friends into the National..it being so close to the station and the other venues we were using for our meeting. Sadly it was Karoke night which they hadn't been warned about and all but one ( she is very deaf) slept badly. One of group who is elderly was on the top floor and there was no help offered with cases. Breakfast was very disappointing, even the Continental version and the tea/ coffee etc. in the rooms had obviously been there for some time. The good thing about the stay was that the rooms were clean and the one member of staff who seemed to have to do everything was very friendly and did her best.

The hotel itself is a little tired but the room we got (103) was pleasant enough although as mentioned - heating pipe work looks a bit tired. (Room 101 has door access to outside balcony). Hotel room warm and cosy, furniture is of a good solid standard and bed is comfortable. All you need (kettle / tea / coffee etc), nice tartan curtains and matching bedspread. Bathroom recently renovated to high standard and very spacious overall (corner bath and separate shower). Staff exceptionally professional and extremely helpful and always willing to go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable and welcoming as possible. 10 out of 10 to the owners and a very big thank you for all that they had done, assisted and helped us during our stay.

My husband and I came to Dingwall to visit our friends and they took us to the National Hotel bar and restaurant called The Stag. We were very pleased with everything, from the yummy and very well designed menu to the cool drinks and awesome vibe the place offers! They had a duo playing live music in the bar that evening as well and we had such a great time singing along their tunes. The staff is also great and super friendly and we had a superb time overall, we truly can't wait to get back and we can't recommend enough their delicious food and great atmosphere.

We stayed here recently and decided to eat in their restaurant. To be honest we weren't very hopeful of getting anything other than a very basic meal, but we found the menu to be simple but diverse. I decided to risk the cod - not something I would normally do in an unknown restaurant but still. My partner went for the risotto. You will agree that these are both dishes that can be a bit - shall we say - risky. But how right we were to choose them! The cod arrived - a lovely thick piece of cod, cooked perfectly, with a crisp skin, atop a bed of peas cooked French style with spring onions, with whole baby potatoes sautéed and a light sauce to set it all off. My partner's asparagus risotto was a creamy delight, well seasoned and the rice with exactly the right amount of "bite". A bottle of Merlot to enjoy. Cheerful service. What's not to like. The decor is simple and plain. The bar next door was quite noisy, but once the door between was closed it was quiet and we were undisturbed.

I've been staying at the National for the last two weeks , the food and staff were good . However they don't cater very well for workers on night shift , as someone else pointed out a timetable in the bedrooms would be a handy addition as it seems to vary to suit staff availability . The bedrooms are in need of refurbishment , but my main complaint is to do with visitors , my partner arrived on Wednesday for a shopping trip and was made to feel unwelcome by Andrea at reception who went on to explain visitors were not allowed in the hotel due to their insurance policy . I would suggest if you own a hotel then perhaps a course in hospitality would not be wasted on you .

We stayed here for one night on our way north. Room was small with twin beds, bathroom extremely basic. Flow of hot water in the shower very slow, light above the mirror not working, taps too small for the basin so unable to get hands under them. Room was clean, bed linen and towels fine. Chair need to be replaced, see photo. No hairdryer or tissues provided, toiletries poor and on the tea tray only one sachet of coffee, three milk cartons and no biscuits. Should have been replenished before new guests arrived, and be enough for the number of guests, and to have more than one cup each! Breakfast the usual buffet, chaotic but OK. Staff friendly. You may think I'm being very fussy and picky, but this room cost £130, more that you would pay in Inverness or Aberdeen and certainly more basic than a Premier Inn. Not good value for money in my opinion I'm afraid!

Well, how to start with this place, we stayed in a hovel of a hotel on Thursday night (the royal guest house) that didn't serve breakfast, so we came here at quarter to 9 in the morning and asked if it was possible to have breakfast and despite the kitchen due to close at 9 they were more than happy to help and served and incredible breakfast freshly cooked, the waitress was an asset the the place and I kick myself for not remembering her name but she was so friendly and couldn't be more helpful. We decided to cancel our reservation at the royal guest house we had booked for the second night and decided to come and stay here. There were 2 rooms available that we booked at a fantastic price, we went to our rooms, they were warm, welcoming and spotless, the second room wasn't quite ready but this was 10 in the morning, completely forgivable and yet the receptionist and the manager (who was also very very helpful and friendly) were so apologetic, like I said we had only booked it 15 minutes ago and didn't even expect the rooms to be ready it was not a problem at all, we were out for the day anyway. We came back, the hotel is lovely and secure with the doors being locked between 9 and 10pm, guests are given a pass key to get in this was very comforting. It was lovely and warm and I slept like a log that night, woke up refreshed and happy, we went down for breakfast and once again we were served by the lovely waitress we had met the day before, service once again was outstanding. I also forgot to mention we had dinner in this hotel on the Thursday night and the waiters were so helpful, the food was fantastic and we left smiling until we reached the awful hotel (the royal guest house) we were staying in that night. Our trip was saved by this lovely place and the service cannot recommend highly enough, delighted with it, the manager was so lovely and greeted with a very warm welcome and chat, the waitress is also an asset the business also.

Having arriving earlier then planned and our departure delayed we got to spend the best part of the morning and afternoon in Dingwall. It is a small town in the Scottish Highlands and after one and half hours we had seen most of what Dingwall had to offer. By 1.00 pm we were in need of sustenance and set about looking for a place to eat. There was the usual pubs and places selling ready made sandwiches but we stumbled upon the delightful National Hotel coffee house. It had only been open for a few months but it seemed well patronised by the locals. The young couple who ran the coffee house Pavlina and Ondres we smashing, Freshly made Sandwiches with a side salad and crisps to order, so you got exactly what you wanted, not smothered in mayonnaise or other dressing. And very reasonably priced. It was spotless clean and nothing was to much trouble. Good selection of coffees and teas, tea served in a propper pot. If you find yourself on a touring holiday in the north of Scotland and happen to be in Dingwall give this place a visit and you won't be disappointed.

Went for a meal with drinks on a Saturday evening. The decor is a bit tired, so we weren't expecting much, but the food was great. It was served with the minimum of wait, by an attentive waiter. I will go again. Give it a facelift and we'd go a lot more often.

We were staying at the Gowanfield B&B guesthouse on Station Road and the owner recommended the restaurant at The National Hotel for dinner. She was able to show us the menu and we liked what we saw (incidentally the Gowanfield is a fantastic B&B). The National Hotel is under new management and they are planning some improvements to the building. They certainly don't need to change the chef. The proprietors Johan and his wife Rita were excellent hosts and we were served by a very pleasant waiter. The menu is not huge but I always think this is the sign of a good establishment. We were a group of four and started with an aperitif, followed by a main course and dessert/cheese board. Two had the Hebridean Chicken which was a fillet stuffed with black pudding and haggis, absolutely mouth watering! Served with a selection of vegetables and dauphinois potatoes. The other two had Venison, also served with haggis. This was delicious and a very generous portion. For dessert, two had strawberry cheese cake and these were small individual portions rather than the usual 'bought in' slices of cheesecake seen in many other establishments. The cheese cake was beautifully served with some accompanying fresh strawberries and ice cream. The other two shared the Scottish Cheese platter. This consisted of a very generous selection of three Scottish cheeses served with oatcakes. Very tasty! The drinks are very fairly priced with a house wine prices at £15 and a selecting of other wines at varying prices. We felt the food was excellent, service was very good and all in all an excellent evening and very good value for money.

We were travelling late and hadn't booked accommodation in advance. The National was just what we needed and even though the restaurant was about to close they cheerfully rustled up two fish & chip meals. Parked our car right by the front door. Just an older style hotel but good value with friendly staff and nice clean rooms.

OK , so the decor is a bit old fashioned but it is a very old hotel and I believe the decor gives it a bit of personality.Anyway the food is very good value, you can get a two course lunch Mon/Fri for around £7 or pick from the full menu which averages about £10 per main course. We have visited many times and cannot complain about service or food, if you are unhappy with your meal please complain and it will be replaced as is the case in most hotels. Previous posts suggest their are not many eateries in Dingwall and sadly this is true given the size of the town but try this hotel and if you are dissatisfied with your meal please say so there and then as they are obliged to replace or refund if not to standard.

Was recommend by our landlord, if we liked British food to go here! The frontage is impressive we were seated quickly and given menus, I had a glass of Chardonnay it was very good!I ordered the goats cheese and blini starter this was very tasty but far to much English lettuce as garnish on the plate and a dribble of balsamic reduction not really needed when there is also a chutney on the plate, my partner had the stuffed mushrooms with Haggis these were also tasty but yet again plate was covered in lettuce as garnish! I had the fish cakes not much taste. My partner had fish and chips it was full of bones and not much taste. The chips on both dishes felt and tasted like they had been sitting for awhile.

Food is reasonably priced and tasty with friendly service. Choice in town is limited, hence is worth a look. Be warned that the place caters for coach parties so speed of service may suffer at times. In fairness. Our food was delivered swiftly and was in the main tasty.

just saw it besides the street and literally drifted in there by car; interior looks a little bit old fashioned but not wrecked; but hey , we are here for dinner; we had: cullen skink, grilled goat cheese w/ salad, black pudding and sticky toffee pudding; all very tasty; staff was very nice; everytime again worth a visit!!

Dinner was served by a very nice waitress. Other than that the steak was like rubber, onion rings soggy and the chips were the best part. The dining room has wood paneling and nice detailing, but with the layout and furniture it looks shabby.Accepting that the choice may be limited in the area, this may be the standard to expect. If you are able, I would jump in the car and look elsewhere.

ne venez pas à deux s'il y a déjà des groupes dans le restaurant même, sauf s'ils sont dans des salons réservés. En effet le service ne suit plus dans ce cas et nous avons dû attendre deux heures pour nous faire servir un "fish&chips" !

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.

We all had Sunday lunch (£22), service was good and waitress was friendly. However the Roast dinner was lukewarm, the beef was far from tender and the Yorkshire pud was clearly reheated and very greasy. The bar wasn’t able to provide many of the beers/lagers on tap. Altogether a very disappointing visit. We were here last year and I still remember The Venison I had. Clearly new management/chef. Definitely give it a miss.

Avoid this place . Poorly cooked frozen fish and staff who see you as sn inconvenience. They add a 10% service charge and offer rubbish service.
