The Mermaid Stonehouse in Redcar and Cleveland

Visited easter Monday for a carvery wish I never roast potato's where as black as Cole it's beyond belief they where even aloud to be out for consumption turkey was the most driest ever not sure how to upload picture on here unless it let's me after this step I actually left the full of my carvery cabbage was under cooked pigs in blankets turkey and roasties well over cooked staff didn't care less after telling them I was told food is boud to dry out sitting under the heat lamps after being a regular here for approx 2 years fair to say my custom will not continue worst experience I've ever had eating out. I'll be reviewing on all platforms and hopefully can attach pics too never again will I even consider eating here especially for carvery menu food is totally fine I'd of been happy being offered another meal as staff could see nothing was eaten on plate but no plate was just simply taken away no apology or anything once they have ur money customer service is non existent

Love popping in with the dog for a quick drink. The staff always fuss the dog and give treats which is lovely

The all-you-can-eat breakfast is really tasty, It’s fresh and more is brought out on a regular basis. All staff are welcoming and friendly. The carvery is also kept fresh and clean, will be eating here again. Overall a very good experience :)

This is a great 👍 stonehouse branch. Plenty of parking available and very popular with the locals during meal times. Nicely decorated and well designed with plenty of seatings area. The staff are welcoming and helpful during our visit. The cravery is well prepared and tastes delicious. We enjoyed our lunch and would visit again

Terrible burgers 🍔 cold buns and grey microwaved patties I've had better at my local football club. Over cooked pizza 🍕 young staff probably trying their best, but unfortunately we won't be back again.

Recommend Thursday nights - great quiz and had a very nice pizza which unfortunately I had to share but great value for £8.99 😊

Always a brilliant place to come. The staff make it the place it is. Bracken, Jamie, Cameron, Jo, Holly & Rachel make it SO special. We love bringing our very noisy pup Daisy in. Defo 100% recommendation

I havnt put a rating for the food it was discuting . The gammon and beef were down to the scrag ends and dry as an old boot . The mash was grey looking and dry the roast potatoes were rock hard and dissintergrated inside the gravy was like tar and had the thickest skin on . The whole carvery looked like it had been there for days . It was tasteless . I had a cpl of mouthfuls and left all mine . My partner ate half of hers and left the rest because we hadn't eaten all day . Later in the evening at home my partner was throwing up all night and running to the toilet with stomach cramps , I only had a tummy ache and put that down to because I only had 4 mouthfuls thank God. Also the guys chef outfit that was carving the meat was absolutely filthy . I know you might get a few food stains on the uniform but this was another level . Seriously would not recommend discusting.

I’m a little surprised to see so many negative reviews. When I visited, we had a really enjoyable experience. The food came quickly, and everything was nice. The only part that was a little off the mark was the Sunday roast my son ordered. However, I would like to add this was really late in the day, so it had probably been sitting under the heaters for a while! I can imagine if we had come a bit earlier, it would have been nice. I will be returning and I hope it’s a good experience again.

Great place, I spend A lot of time in the mermaid. It’s a place where I can come and get my work done. The staff have made me feel very welcome and it has a great family atmosphere. “It also has the best pint of Madri in the area” 🍻

The food was amazing as always. Haven’t been back here for a good while, so it’s good to know the food quality and taste has stayed the same. Staff were fantastic and fast, made sure to check in with us when we were eating too. Atmosphere was nice and quiet as we came in for 11.45 carvery. All in all great visit!

We went for a breakfast buffet at 9.05 am, thinking it would be all hot and freshly cooked. VERY WRONG. All the food was COLD.. Added to that, the black pudding was DRIED up, unable to cut it, chew it, taste or enjoy it. So very disappointed. Shall not be visiting again.

I've given this place the benefit of the doubt too many times now. In what world do these incompetent kitchen staff think that a good substitute for vegetable fingers are fish fingers when it clearly states they are suitable for vegetarians on the menu. 3x times they have done this. To top it off this time the food was overcooked and somehow cold.

Went for a carvery on Saturday lunch, food was amazing, the portions were large. Friendly staff. Would have no hesitation recommending the mermaid stonehouse pub. Will go back to try thr breakfast

The food would be 5 but the cheese on the cheeseburger taste a bit weird but the brownies are gorgeous I’ve been here 3 times and would happily go Agian

Absolutely disgusting.....ordered 2 large sunday dinners 1 with pork and beef and one with gamon and beef...when it arrived it was all in a bowl slapped on top of each other...i dnt knw what the meat was but definitely not wat i ordered i never seen so much fat on a dinner...when i rang up the girl n the phone said i have to get intouch with uber as its there fault my dinner was wrong and full of fat! For £30 u expect a nice dinner not the scraps whats left over!

A nice little pub however the bar can get busy and this means you spend a bit of time queuing for a drink. Not much of a selection on pump for dark ale drinkers.

Good pub for a nice pint, but the food is not for me a bit pricey for the quality you get. Maybe i just ordered the wrong thing.

Pizza was out of this world, definitely come back for another, the handsome feller on pizza deck was very kind and was very quick service ( deserves a raise) overall very happy with the mermaid however the tunes could be better.

Lovely service from all members of staff. Pizza made by young lad called “Ethan” who was very chatty and had some lovely banter.

Christmas dinner at the mermaid was perfect. Table of 11, starters came out quick and were gorgeous, dinner was lovely and deserts were good too. All served quickly especially for such a large table and catered for my niece who's diary free. Was such a lovely relaxed atmosphere for Christmas day, exactly what we wanted. Gorgeous and would definitely recommend.

I've been going to the mermaid for about 10 years about 3 to 4 times a week we went on a boxing day before we went for a drink but my dad died 4 years ago so I thought I'd take my partner this year but what a waste of money the food was absolutely rubbish the staff told us to hurry up and eat our food I would never go there again on a boxing day or any other day it's a shame how it's gone like this

Fantastic time. Jo served us and made sure we had everything we needed, Callum was fantastic he let my 4 year old stand nd watch him pizza which made it all the more fun. Thank you to you both x

Absolutely shocking, customer service, terrible, booked a three course meal for boxing day, dried up food ,told to hurry up, no pizza available that they had on the menu for boxing day, waste of mon̈ey, we ended up getting a takeaway on the night, as still hungry, won't be going again, not one of the staff members came and asked how our meal was, more interested in talking to each other, gone down hill this place.

Everything was good I felt like Peter Griffin using Jackie Chan's shopsyick hands with my food so 👍

Bear in mind the place was vertualy empty, the server who served us our carvary was extremely rude and miserable (23rd Nov around 5pm foreign gentleman) the meat was very poor quality full or gristle, yorkshire pudding are not home made and the same goes for the Mash although the Mash was nice....its sad to see this once great pub has gone down so far and things I mentioned are simple things to keep on top of ..msg to the management don't put up with second best if your staff aren't performing like they want the job get rid and find people who do. (Speaking from experience) good luck .

Had a carvery but sad to say it was the worst dinner I've ever had meat was dry potatoes were dry and undercooked the mash was like glue,frozen Yorkshire pudding and worst part was the gravy, it was dead watery and tasteless it didn't even taste like gravy. Absolutely shocking from the chefs. Definitely won't be going again. I'd be embarrassed as a chef to serve that kind of food. I've cooked better dinners myself hanging out of my arse off the night before

Was in the area and decided to try the pizza here. The base was well done fresh but a bit to dry, I only ate half of it. I enjoyed the first few slices, and then it was just too dry to eat anymore. As for the carvery my partner got there wasn't many options and most kf the stuff was bought in not like the toby carvery which is owned by the same mother company. The Yorkshire puddings seemed like Aunt Bessie's. And the vegetables all seemed frozen, especially the sprouts. It was average all in all, sort of like witherspoons but with a slightly higher price tag.

New menu is outstanding and the service is second to none in the area. Friendly and easy to communicate with.Ellie was the singular stand out amongst the staff.

Very poor , been a few times and always hit and miss , never great but fills a hole if your hungry Frozen Yorkshire puddings , dry meat , frozen vegetables, barely warm Chef didn’t even speak apart from to ask if we wanted a Yorkshire , even then it was just one word YORKSHIRE ? Really need to pull your socks up mermaid

Good food from here All the staff are polite, friendly and it’s a diverse range of people. I was served by Jo, very professional and made sure our experience was enjoyable. The atmospshere is welcoming and i definitely recommend visiting here.

I ordered food and have regularly eat in the restaurant never had a bad experience. Today I ordered 3 meals from uber eats and when it was being delivered the delivery man dropped all of my food on the floor and then claimed he had delivered it. He asked me to enter my pin to accept delivery which I obviously refused to do. I phoned up to complain and spoke to bracken (hopefully spelt right) who was very helpful in the complaints process and also complained about the driver. I had to ask for a refund and pay again for food but was given complimentary desserts as compensation thank you for your efforts. The food was piping hot even on the floor. I could see the steam coming off it!

Went for a midweek carvery Service was good staff very friendly. Plenty of meat, some of the veg was not to my taste some a bit hard some just over cooked which I get it on a hot pass and not everything to everyone's pallette or taste, and Yorkshire puddings presented as not home made as to perfect, gravy was thick and tasty, Not bad value for money and they do other meal options as well, which from what I saw on passing all looked good especially the pizzas Have to say one of the bestest coffees after lunch iv had in a good while. All in all not bad if you want to nip out for a quick bite to eat and not cook, this would be ok to do that.

Had the carvey ,food was OK nothing special usual stuff ,the food was only warm ,which isn't good ,gravy was thick and looked appealing but was tasteless I had beef which was OK but a bit dried out ,vegetables usual selection but as I said just warm . That's it really nothing special

Very disappointed tonight when visiting 02.09.24 Daughter ordered on the app nobody came over for over 9 minutes then bought bottle drinks no glasses had to ask for glasses with ice barman didn't seem in the best mood. When getting the carvery ordered pigs in blankets sadly you could have broke your teeth on them they were that hard. The beef was very tough and uncutable so definitely on edible. Nobody did a check back so I had to approach a member of staff about the pigs in blankets she brought over replacements eventually. Very disappointed in the whole meal veg been sat there most of the day very hard. When collecting the plates the girl asked if everything was ok and I said no she then said I'll get somebody to come out and speak to you after 10 minutes nobody arrived but she returned offering us puddings so we agreed to have the puddings which weren't too bad. Sadly customer service was terrible staff members certainly didn't want to be there and made that quite apparent. I won't be returning again as a very disappointed tonight.

We popped in for the carvery. We had the standard size, between the 4 of us we tried all the meats and veggies. It was excellent. Very reasonable, our visitors told us it was so cheap they couldn't believe what they got for the money. Excellent food, lovely helpful staff, nice environment, would recommend it to everyone. Went in a few weeks later, and everything was as good as it had been the last time we visited. Our visitors always ask to go the mermaid for lunch when they visit us.

Food is pretty average. Not really worth the money . We gave it another go after being previously underwealmed. Wouldn't recommend it if you want something that looks like a meal. A Burger and Chips is exactly that no trimming on the plate like garnish or Salad. It's basic overpriced food.

Ordered a 2x meals, a burger meal and the chippy platter. The burger meal was fine but the chippy platter wasn't. The fish was hidden by a mountain of thick batter and once I got to the fish it was tasteless and such a disappointment. Also stated it came with bread which was missing. Such a shame on the poor quality fish, hopefully the chef will up his/ her game and make a massive improvement as currently not worth the money. Thought we would try the Mermaid again, this time the order didn't even turn up and when rang told it had been delivered to the wrong address. I asked if I could just pop round and pick up the newly cooked food and got told no, I would have to re-order via just eat. Honestly this place is terrible, won't be going again.

Worst roast potatoes ever. I'm not sure how they can taste so bad (3 people had them). No one came anywhere near us to see if our food was OK. Other than that, the rest of the food was OK.
