Tomahawk Steakhouse Saltburn in Redcar and Cleveland

Second time me n the wife have been due to a friend I go n see First visit was ok but this time they were massively understaffed and again not offered the 3 course menu and the service was very slow

Poor food portion sizes & quality, & sadly worse customer service (the basics too, not even the complicated things). This was booked for a Mother’s Day present for my wife and mother (with two young children). So 5 of us. All excited to attend, my mother and I had attended 3 times previously to this saltburn site for breakfast and loved it. My wife and I have attended yarm and potto numerous times for evening meals and enjoyed hugely. Especially potto. I appreciate its Mother’s Day and likely hectic and stressful for the staff, however sadly that’s part of the job albeit I have sympathy and if errors are made through no lack of trying I just don’t leave a review and unless anything horrendous occurs don’t complain. However considering what day it was, and how people put such importance on the occasion what was experienced was poor. We arrived early (out daily) by 20 - 25 minutes or so . We apologised the minute we said who we were and what our booking time was and offered gladly to sit outside and wait with a drink if our table wasn’t ready. The lady actually at the desk was fairly courteous however we were told we were early and the table may not be ready….we were aware of that hence our apology and offer. I believe the manager went to check. She then came back and announced it was ready however we could only order drinks pre our booking time and not food (in not a particularly friendly tone) and requested another team member to seat us. (Couldn’t this be handled with a bit of courteousy by taking saying “yes it is ready please follow us sir” then when we got seated, and weren’t in a busy reception area just say “sorry sir we can get you a drink however as you’re early we can’t take a food order until your time”!? Basic customer service. Feeling like you’ve been told off before you’ve even sat down despite apologising as a customer for inconveniencing your host isn’t great. We were sat down at around 2:20-2:25pm, our drinks order taken and delivered by around 2:40 and then we sat and waited until 3:10 when the food order was taken. Our food arrived at around 3:40-3:45 and I’ve got to say was massively underwhelming / disappointing. Choosing to go to a ‘steakhouse’ for a meal more often than not is driven by meat lovers, surely? The amount of meat on our Sunday dinners was minimal, sliced as thin as what you get in processed packets of sliced beef from the supermarket and there was only 3 (small) slices. A gesture. The veg was nice to the top however as clearly had been left on for two long much was burnt at the bottom (peas / Brocolli / the swede mash) and we got no stuffing on the two Sunday dinners as advertised, just on the Yorkshire pudding meal. My wife said she was going to complain about the quantities, the quality and the missing items however i said just to leave it as the children had already been getting bored and hungry (as were we) and I didn’t want another wait / delay. You can make exceptions in certain circumstances however when you go out for a Mother’s Day meal and the food amounts and quality are substandard, the service is substandard, and you all leave disappointed, it’s important that it’s aired. Such a shame as the setting is beautiful. The staff towards the end started being more attentive however as we likely displayed our dissatisfaction enough for it to be noticed they were maybe trying to make amends.

Very expensive, food was ok however due to being in a large group the bill couldn’t be split which they were adamant about. If we had known this we would have gone elsewhere as we weren’t told upon booking just rudely had a laminated paper notice put on the table after we had all arrived and ordered drinks.

Food was OK. Portion for salmon I have to say I was massively disappointed by. Salmon was lovely and cooked well but the broccoli was a small portion and burned, samphire, prawn sauce and potatoes were pretty much non existent and I had to ask for another portion of potatoes. Felt it was expensive for the quality I'm afraid.

Ordered a medium steak and it came blue and cold.

Don’t waste your good money on such a dreadful place for service. The manager running the shift was so rude we didn’t stay to sit our booking. She obviously thinks the ‘brand’ is more than the customer. Well done Tomahawk Saltburn. I do hope your Head Office give better service?!

Though quite expensive, the food here was well worth the price. Every dish was cooked with care and they handled our large group of 14 excellently. During the day the sea view is probably stunning and it's only a 5 minute walk from parking. Fair warning, it IS on the cusp of a hill. So it's either a steep walk around to get in. Or climb up a long flight of fairly precarious steps.

me and my mum came for food last night and asked for 2 steaks medium well, they came out and were not medium well at all they were still bleeding with blood, so got sent away and another one came out 30 mins later. the steaks were still very bloody in the middle. over all not the best experience especially for the price of nearly 80 pound.

Please save yourself by reading this review. This is not a steakhouse or a restaurant. For context- We arrived at 8.10 and staff looked at us to then turn around and carry on with their jobs. To be clear the restaurant was not busy. Finally we were greeted by the manager who said there would be a “wait” which was fine but they’d give us a good table. They took us to a table inside and insisted outside which I asked for was busy (table for 2 left outside all the time we were there). My girlfriend ordered a margarita (£10.95) which was clearly out of a carton despite her asking if it was a pre-mix. It was as it only took 2 minutes. After a new drink was brought we ordered a chateaubriand with 4 sharing dishes for £82. We were waiting over an hour (9.15) so by this point we asked if we could leave it and just pay for our drinks (we were already looking at takeaways we could go to) but they insisted it wouldn’t be long and was being plated up. Our food then came and it was the worst steak we’ve ever had, it was so chewy for a chateaubriand and meant to be “medium rare”. The broccoli wasn’t even cooked and the highlight of our meal was the truffle Parmesan chips which were sweaty at best. We should have listened to the reviews that we on here previously but thought we’d give it a go as it’s a great location near the hotel we stayed at. They did knock off £50 off the bill after we complained which is crazy to think for such an experience it would have been £96 for just the main pictured and a gin my girlfriend had.

Terrible experience at Tomahawk saltburn, starter brought out with Duck pancakes were all broken up sent back and pancakes changed but duck was then cold. Also a double Kraken ordered came in a very large glass full to the brim with coke. The mains arrived with my wife's 10oz fillet being cold,chips and mac&cheese also cold and sent back same steak reheated making it now well done. The mac&cheese was brought back still cold terrible. My wife not wanting anything by this point as very disappointed wanted to leave.This was Valentines a rare night without the kids that was totally spoilt. The manager had come over whilst the meal was being consumed to apologise but when paying the the end didn't come over to to apologise or to say sorry for spoiling the night. I think there needs to be a vast improvement with the food and also the service as both need work. We go to potto regular for dinning and staying both as a couple and with children and never had an issue. We also go to Rio with children but never had such a bad experience as with the saltburn location.

Had a meal with friends at Tomahawk Saltburn for the first time today. Food was great. We had a really nice meal and couldn’t fault the quality, portion size or cost. The service was really really poor though. Not one to complain usually, but staff were just inattentive and hard to speak to when I actually walked around to get someone’s attention. Lots of staff behind the bar drinking coffee. I’m only writing the review because they add a service charge which they say is optional. We paid 50% of the expected service charge, but not the full amount. A member of staff chased us out the restaurant to tell us we hadn’t paid our full bill (the most attentive they’d been all afternoon!). I said that we didn’t pay 50% because it was optional and was greeted with a bit of a blank expression. A mega shame really as the food was great and I’d be keen to go back if there was a little more time spent on service.

Be mindful about the size of fish and chips while ordering, it’s delicious however the quantity is way too much for an average person.

Just had an absolutely lovely time at this place. It's location is awesome and the food was not only absolutely lush but very reasonablly priced too! We ordered the open lamb burger (lush) and steak parmo! The staff were soo friendly which just made it a great evening too! Shout out to Vinnie and colleagues 🔥

Great venue for views over Saltburn. Delicious Sunday dinner delicious meat and selection of vegetables. Welcoming and efficient staff. Sam served our table was very efficient and polite.

We came Monday 27th January there was 4 of us and two children ( babies in high chair) sam greeted us & sat us at a beautiful table on the balcony. Sam was very helpful when I came to questions about the food. Drinks & food came out quickly and was absolutely beautiful highly reccomened the brisket hashbrown. 10/10 on everything especially the service and how helpful he was with us splitting the bill and how professional he stayed when one of our friends made the must stupid comment that had all us in stitches Thank you again sam From the us 4 ( including salmon girl 🤣)

Thank you for making our Mom's special birthday so lovely. We were a party of 15, everyone of us enjoyed the food. Special mention to Adam who looked after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble for him. We can't wait to come back.

Food is very good, staff are definitely not good. Unfriendly, couldn't care less. Spoiled our day. Had so looked forward to it. Unsmiling server was rushed off his feet hadn't got time to serve us, left us waiting 3 quarters of an hour, and the manager - I assume manager, (as he was in a suit) , so unfriendly, cold, officious, unsmiling. Horrible (expensive) experience. Really fed up of these arrogant people. Wonder why they work in hospitality?

What a lovely modern Restaurant. Brilliant location, great view in the conservatory. Only dropped on for a coffee in January but very impressed. Warm atmosphere very friendly staff (thought Yorkshire folk were friendly but they give us a run for our money up here). Good menu with reasonable prices. Well worth a visit

Good restaurant, the view and atmosphere is beautiful, food was good but a little pricey , I can cook very similar food at home, so for me it’s more for the experience and the view.

We stopped by for a few drinks on a Saturday afternoon with our dog. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Had a stunning view of the sea from our table. Will be back!.

Ordered the tomahawk stake came out extremely rare when asked for medium rare Had to ask for it to be sent back to cook more By that time our sides were cold not the best experience especially for the price you expect it to be right the first time Also would be great if you just dropped the pushed on you 10% service charge on the receipt and make it a option on the card machine instead it's more polite Unfortunately we won't be returning Waste of £120 TBF Hope it improves as it's in a great location

Cold food and uncooked chicken Parmesan I was so disappointed

We went here for brunch after a morning walk along the beach. Food was good, I had the hash. It was a little heavy on the cheese sauce, but ok. View is great, straight out to sea ✨ Team were good, although the team did all ask the same questions each time & there was no continuity with who was serving us…. Oh and there was no vegetarian menu at hand so the lad had to show us from his order tablet.. it hasn’t put us off as we are still going back over Xmas with the family for dinner

This burger and fish and chip restaurant has no ketchup provided, so strange. The lamb burger with big cheese on top was very good!

Went for a meal with some friends. We were seated in an area where there were only 2 tables and staff didn’t walk past. Because of this, the service was poor. The staff failed to check on us and we could see they were all stood together chatting. This meant if we needed extra drinks, we had to go and approach them and ask someone to come to our table to take our order. I’m not a fan of this restaurant anyway as it’s not my type of food and it’s unlikely I’ll return.

Friendly and attentive staff, lovely meal small parmo was a normal size one!! Cocktails were so very good, wished I’d of had space for a dessert, maybe next time. Reasonable priced, definitely recommend

Keep up the Good Work And great Staff

Had my 21st birthday booked in for months, then a stormy night caused a power cut for 10 minutes. They then decided that closing the entire restaurant for a Saturday night was an amazing decision and although the power had been fine except that one point in the night. Lazy people running the place, wouldn’t recommend an event to be hosted here.

Awful food and service do not come.

The place was very quiet (Wednesday night), despite the "3 courses for £20" offer. No problems with the food (set menu, 3 options for starter, main, dessert). Staff were great. No problems at all.

We went for dinner as a family for a birthday. The staff are all very welcoming, polite and attentive. Food was beautiful, presented well and fast service. Our servers were Adam and Brad, who were lovely and made our experience 100 x better. Well be returning soon.

Really great service from Georgia and the rest, always a really friendly atmosphere and the food is amazing. Highly recommend if you're in the Saltburn area.

The £20 deal for a 3 course meal is a bargain. The quality of the food is excellent, we really enjoyed it, (steak is very small though, looks lost on the big empty plate. It could do with a bit of salad - not just a little pot of chips!) But very top quality food overall and some of the dishes are beautifully presented. The pork dish was superb, as was the fish. Starters are exquisitely presented and are the real stars of the show. Drinks are a bit over priced, but you expect that, given the setting and you are getting a great meal out with glorious views. It does feel like it's a 'treat'. However, charging you nearly £4 for water is outrageous. They don't tell you it's not tap water when they offer you "water for the table." Beautiful views over the sea, but we are always shown to the smallest of tables for just 2 people, away from the windows. This slightly dampens the experience and mars the otherwise excellent view, somewhat annoying when other couples are taken to the bigger tables by the windows later on. Otherwise we would have given 5 stars for service and atmosphere. A 10% service charge is always added on, a tad cheeky, but it is optional, so you can have it removed if you prefer to leave your own tip. A great place for a special meal out at a great price if you get the meal deal!

A lovely meal with truly excellent service from our lovely waitress Liv. We enjoyed every course and 3 courses for £20 was excellent value for money. The 3 courses we chose were all delicious. We ate before the evening rush when it was still light. The views of the sea from our table were spectacular, even though we weren't able to sit in the special area with views overlooking the sea.

Lovely restaurant fantastic meal but for a disabled person it was difficult to get to as the small carpark was full and we had to park at Saltburn Pier car park then negotiate about 20 steps.

Wonderful place，wonderful food! This restaurant is supposed to be 4.8, it is underrated. The seafoods are very fresh and delicious! Steak is also very nice! If the fried fish crust could be a little bit thin, it will be very great!

Not great. Waited 20 minutes before we could catch someone’s attention to order a drink. Steaks were not flat iron and not cooked as requested. Was not asked once if everything was ok, then the bill came with £21 service charge! Needless to say we did not pay that and will not be returning!

Food was incredible we shared the Sea food and steak sharing board with 4 standard sides £85 everything was really really nice we left absolutely stuffed, service was great from all staff we spoke to, it was quiet but staff were still friendly and engaging, highly recommend a visit!

hi food and waitress staff were great. however as a single person I wasn't allowed to sit at the empty window seats with the amazing view! very discriminating! the manager said they were a 6.m million business, obviously wasn't interested in good customer service or my business today or in the future!

Cramed in like sardines, pre ordered food took 45 -59 minutes to be served, the quality was mediocre and the prices were high , o e meal each and one drink each ,,,sorry I can't recommend this one

Having an anniversary meal out being treat by my son and his wife. Table was very sticky, which doesn't give a good first impression. Got a rewipe but still sticky and dirty when wiped with a tissue. The main courses were okay for a steak house could have been a bit more steaky for the price and more generous sides would be good , premium extra sides left a lot to be desired. Frozen mini prawns about 8 in garlic butter. Five mini rubbery scallops, and I mean mini! in garlic butter. Not worth the price. Tap water was horrible, must still have lead pipes! Staff were very good, though, and the table was in a nice place overlooking the beach, which did help offset the food. Think the ship will be the next tryout, unlikely to return. Felt sorry for my son paying high for low quality.

As usual we were dealt with by the waitress with courtesy and friendliness , we got served quickly and politely. No animals to disrupt our meal . We live in Saltburn and find eating in the Steakhouse idyllic.

Great ambience, good service, great food. My steak was overcooked, complained to the service, after 10 minutes I had a new steak medium as ordered. Absolutely professional handling of complaints. Keep it up! We'll be back!

Georgia and Joe our waiters were brilliant and very accommodating. We came for the set menu but unfortunately one somebody had an allergy. However the team allowed us to choose a dessert for the main menu. Great service x

Great food on the 3 course for £19.95 offer - we were stuffed! Our server Georgia looked after us so well making sure we always had a drink, clearing plates away quickly and even allowing us a breather in between main and desert - she did everything with a smile too, she was lovely! Had a lovely night with really good service.

Booked the night before table for 5.we where greeted with open arms ,staff where polite and welcoming .we all ordered the three course set meal we weren't disappointed I can recommend the fine choices of food that was on offer , we all went out with smiles on our faces, we definitely will be coming back . This was the Saltburn restaurant.

We popped in on a whim yesterday, while we were visiting the area, hoping that it wouldn't be to expensive. We were not disappointed. We went for the Sunday lunches between 4 of us and we had beef, lamb and chicken with very well portioned side plate with veg. Very happy to say the least. Portion sizes were fantastic and very reasonable pricing. A little gold mine.

Ate here for lunch today with 3 friends. All of our food was amazing. We had excellent service, all of the staff here are fabulous. Beautiful views of the sea. Would thoroughly recommend.

Nice food and atmosphere but unfortunately hugely let down by terribly slow service. We arrived for our booking with a party of 11 at 18:30 and didn’t receive our mains until nearly 20:30. Deserts took over 30 minutes to arrive and when they did arrive there were two people’s orders missing. Poor service like this can sometimes be forgiven if a restaurant is very busy but it was a Tuesday evening and the place was basically empty. Upon complaint to the on duty manager, she sent a young member of staff to speak with us rather than show her own face which again is unacceptable given how quiet the restaurant was. We won’t be returning.

Absolutely fab restaurant with lovely staff and good food! We were staying in Saltburn and chose Tomahawk for lunch on a bit of a whim. The waiter that served us was fabulous and went the extra mile with my 3 year old (she chose the cranberry juice to drink but has never had it before, he could clearly see my surprise and offered to bring her a taste of it to see if she liked it!) They also had a pretty extensive gluten free menu for my husband, including burgers which made him very happy! All the meals were superb (they did forget a few ingredients in my husbands burger, but as soon as we mentioned it, they rectified it immediately) We would definitely return here!

My partner and I went for our anniversary. They gave us free prosecco when we arrived and were so attentive. The staff were so lovely and even wrote Happy Anniversary in chocolate on our dessert. If seated outside, the view is to die for with a clear image of the beach and the ships in the distance. The STEAK WAS FABULOUS. Definitely recommend and vegetarian options were excellent. Even gave us a box to put our leftovers in. All round great experience, no bad comments at all. Thanks to everybody who made our experience so lovely. Hoping to be back next holiday!

Ate at Tomahawk this evening with friends and our two dogs. After reading a few mediocre reviews we didn’t expect much but this place exceeded our expectations - we had a steak sharing platter which was amazing, couldn’t fault one thing about it. The service was also great.

The food is nice but expensive. The waiter said the Tomahawk could serve 4. My son and I smashed it and could have eaten more. Tasted good. Beef dripping chips were delicious.

Staff here are doing a brilliant job full of young staff who have been trained very well, loved the attentiveness, always cleaning up. The food here is very expensive, if you want to buy a steak which is around £30 and want to add chips to it, it's all additional, I just had something else which was presented very well

Although the atmosphere is very nice the food and service are of poor quality, 10 pounds for a starter that was burned and took two mouth fulls to eat and not to mention the sloppy mess the parmo was. Service is absoloutely shocking, waited 40 minutes for a peroni to be brought out which was left on the side of the bar and not once have we been asked if we would like more drinks. Absolutely shocking would not recommend at all, wouldnt feed the food to my dog.

Seating and area is great but the service while isnt an issue it was the waiting times for our drinks to arrive, had ordered a peroni and could see it was left on the bar for 25 minutes went to the bar and asked a staff member if it was mine and then took it myself and then had to go to the bar myself too order a drink after not having a server come outside to us to offer more drinks, after eating our starters we were waiting for 2 parmos and a burger for 40 minutes

We visited for Sunday lunch and although the food was tasty it just wasn't warm enough to enjoy, it seemed to go cold instantly. The accompanying veg took a while to arrive after the mains and was cooked too al dente for our liking. We felt a bit disheartened after spending nearly 70 quid for the two of us. The service was fantastic and the restaurant itself was in a beautiful setting too. I'd be willing to try a different tomahawk in future but probably wouldn't return here.

What can I say oh so disappointed. We were shown to our table views where good but the table was so sticky and tacky and covered in glass marks. We ordered the Sunday roast platter which wasn't an issue. We both ordered a 2 glasses of Wicked Lady rose and one glass had bits floating in. We asked for it to be changed and all they did was pick the bits out at the bar not impressed and requested a new glass of rose. The platter arrived at the table and the lad serving the food said I will bring you the sides. 5 minutes later we had no plates and no sides, I asked the young lady serving about us waiting 5 minutes she apologised and said I will get the platter reheated and the rest of the sides and plates. I advised I wanted a fresh platter as this was cold. 10 minutes later the platter came to the table and the server said here is your reheated platter but the young lady serving said no it's a fresh one. Well you could tell it was just reheated, the veg was rock hard and under cooked. I am so disappointed and can't believe how shocking the service and quality of food was. We use the York and Yarm Tomahawk lots and very impressed but will never return to the Saltburn one.

No idea about the food but their loud music audible clear across Saltburn seafront is a disgrace.

We went for Sunday lunch. The service was poor and very slow. The roast dinners were luke warm to say the least.

I can't say much about the food as we'd only had an iced coffee, but overall very nice and quick service and great outside view of the beach and Saltburn.

If you want a soggy bland overpriced English breakfast then this is the place to go. The weekend staff don’t care. We commented on how bad the food was and they just said ah sorry. We had barely touched it and not once did they ask if everything was ok. There was food missing from our plates too and the cutlery was filthy. We overheard someone saying never again as we walked in. I wish we had turned around ourselves now. I hope this saves someone a bad breakfast. Go to the spa hotel instead because theirs are fantastic.

I’m a foodie so it’s four stars, need to take this score seriously. But if you just want get some food, this is a good place. Tbh the beef is fair enough to become their classic dish worth to try!

Pre booked a table but our plans changed so ended up being early but the restaurant was very accommodating and it wasn’t a problem. We ordered drinks and a couple of different versions of the Parmo, the regular beef brisket and a large hot shot, both were excellent as was the service, definitely book in advance though as the restaurant was very busy.

Although this place is a great Steakhouse what really is amazing is the fish n chips! They were so good we had them everyday during our 3 day stay here! The wagu burger was very nice too. Staff were lovely! Will be back

Me and my friend went into this restaurant expecting great service and perfect steaks considering that they are a steakhouse yet we ordered medium steaks that took 40 minutes to arrive after our starters were cleared off the table. When said steaks arrived they were massively undercooked to the point that they couldn't be cut properly. They were rare. We ordered a jug of water that took 30 minutes to arrive alongside no explanation as to why it took so long. The waiters did what they could but the service from the kitchen and bar was obismale.

Steak was tough and hard to chew/cut. Broccoli was over cooked. DJ blasting out music was overkill

Lovely surroundings with sea view. Excellent service and atmosphere. The food was beautifully cooked and served. A good selection of cocktails and beers and a good wine list. A visit is a must.

Came for Bottomless Brunch. Fantastic atmosphere with DJ Theo. Drinks just kept on coming with a great of cocktails. Service by Fin and James was second to none.

The best steak I’ve ever had! We came for a meal and all the staff were so helpful and gave us the exact table we wanted even in the busy times. Ava was excellent and helped us have a great night. Thank you
