The Merchant Cannock in Cannock Chase

Food is really hit and miss, eat here a couple of times a week, often don’t get extras that’s ordered with meals (waffle fries, fried egg etc), stale tortillas seem to be a common occurrence too. But often it’s simply excellent, guess it depends who’s in the kitchen. Their steaks are normally fantastic. No complaints over atmosphere and service though, both are excellent.

Recommend food, nice coffee too brilliant place.

Lovely food ,great value, we had chip shop platter,was amazing, cooked by Ann. Lovely friendly staff, Nice beer as well.

Nice surroundings pleasant staff but food came out cold. Had chicken tikka masala and a mixed grill. Chips cold meat cold and naan breads not cooked properly. Maybe an off night but won’t go back.

Went for lunch with a friend and had the small plates deal. Used the app to order, staff all lovely, tones of food, great choice and value. Wil be returning. Nice busy atmosphere too

My wife and I went shopping in cannock town centre and treated ourselves to lunch . Very friendly staff serving drinks and took our order pleasantly surprised how clean the pub and table was as this hasn't been our experience in pubs in this area before. Food was hot and a good portion a full mixed grill and all day breakfast great value and treated our selves to desserts as mains was so good 👍 😋 thank you very much we will definitely return

Food is Basic but well presented service was very good & the Atmosphere was OK but not over active

I must say I was pleasantly surprised from the food here I had fish and chips mushy peas.. The service from the all the staff (waitress, bar Staff) was 100 excellent could not fault them at all 👏 . The fish well what can I say I have eaten fish in Cornwall & devon and it was top notch fish served here , batter was light & crispy beautiful cooked and very tasty , the mushy peas was as good as most places I've eaten in 4 out of 5 , the chips was very fresh and tasty just not enough of them shame really, my hat is off to the cook / chef you deserve all the credit you get because it was very nice food all round , I will be returning and I will let people know about the food here well done to all the staff who worked here today .......

Staff always pleasant and food great for the price..

Can’t have alcohol and they brought me the alcoholic version. No mango chutney for the curry. Dessert should have come with ice cream and it came with cold custard. Dessert was cold. Waitresses not bothered. Ask them to turn sound up on TV, said they would and didn’t. Allowing an old bald bloke to swear at the top of his voice in front of children. Poor

Didn't have any food...not comfortable...

I remember going there once and fair play to the girl that delivered the food to a table with older man and his family I presume, he tried to smack the servers bottom, but she must be used to him coz she swerved quickly and he missed, she took it all in good faith and the old man was a tad disappointed. His daughter or granddaughter can burp for England without any embarrassment. Imagine having to serve them or sit next to them. We'll done server.

Food was served piping hot and tasted lovely and fresh, the staff was lovely especially the lady who brought the food, she’s always polite even towards my children (sammy) always lovely to see her :)

Visited for breakfast with daughter and grandson. I had traditional daughter had breakfast burger and grandson had sausage and toast. Food was well cooked, hot and well presented. The girl who served us was very friendly and helpful. It wasn't overly busy but felt comfortable

Went for a family birthday meal, table of 11. The food was lovely, cake out really quickly. Had some picky children but all orders were correct, and the team couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely return

Garlic bread wasn’t cooked properly, they didn’t bring out one of the drinks and took us 15 minutes to get someone’s attention, when I went up to the bar couldn’t even get a word in was told to go to the back of the queue which was far too long to get a drink that I had already paid for, the staff were just rude, the girl who brought the cutlery to the table pretty much slammed it on the table and walked off

We asked for the fish and chips but they had sold out so had the scampi instead which was very yummy. Service was very good

Went to meet family and friends for a quiz night. Had a lot of laughs and a great quiz on a Thursday and Friday night.

Been to this pub now a few time and normally have a good experience. Went for lunch today as always the staff were really friendly even though they were mad busy but unfortunately the food was not up to the usual standards. Had to wait over 40 minutes which even though I was on my lunch break, I wouldn’t have minded had the food turned up and was editable. Ordered 3 items from small plates, chicken goujons and hunters BBQ chips. The goujons were overcooked and the other was soggy chips due to the change from grated cheese to cheesy sauce. Not liking the new menu and hope it’s just here for Christmas. Had it not been for the friendly service by the staff who were so busy and the fact we’ve had nice food from here in the past, if it had been my first time to this pub it would put me off going again.

Went to watch rugby, reserved us a table next to big screen, had the volume up too! Very helpful, great food.

Was in cannock over the weekend for the boxing. Went here for our breakfast. Saturday and Sunday, the food was nice, and the staff were very polite and friendly

Seemed ok like a nice place to have a family meal but I thought it was over priced. £3 for 330ml of Fanta ect

The staff are wonderful, helpful. We’d actually gone to another pub to watch sport and the manager sent us to The Merchant. The ladies behind the bar were absolutely wonderful. Thank you ladies 😘

We've only had breakfast here so far but it's been really tasty every time. The breakfast burger on a brioche bun is 🤌. The staff are really friendly too. Will continue to go here.

Large open plan pub, big screens for sports, large selection of drinks with a variety of on tap beers and ciders, nice food and good service.

Staff go out of their way to make the visit one to remember. Food was excellent, quickly served and it was hot as well. Pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Well done!

We visit the Merchant twice a week for quiz night! Having only loved to Cannock less than 2 years ago, we have found the pub friendly, welcoming and great food. The staff are always smiling. We especially enjoy the SpeedQuizzing on Fridays with Ash. They are fun, engaging and the bonus rounds are always exciting! 😀 Would definitely recommend visiting!

Staff are excellent, always friendly, helpful and with a smile. Food is always good with great service. Quiz nights on the Thursday(pen and paper) and Friday(speedquiz) each week are great fun with a fantastic quizmaster, lively and inclusive atmosphere.

Come for the speed quiz every week, we love it! Ash is great and all of the staff make the night enjoyable x

Food spot on truly hats of to the chefs bar staff friendly helpful and ready to go above and beyond and the price of the meals well you defo get your moneys worth and sort of like loyds prices 10 years ago I love going in here I tell everyone about it all the time there was only one thing wrong with it the last time I went in there was a load of fruit flys I had two go in my drink and was flying around the food killed the mood abit but carnt win them all lol still good it a 10 out of 10

Very disappointed food wash terrible, been going here for years but Thursday 3rd August my family sat at table 3. Came to order food no lasagne ,, no katsu chicken! So ordered 10oz gammon which meat was off,, steak and ale pie couldn’t even cut pastry’ with a steak knife. , garlic bread cold hard and burned around edge ,, chips where sired not hot. Egg was hard not runny. Paid £55 for food the woman said I can refund you for 2 dishes of £17 ,, should of been a full refund ,, gone there for years never encountered this before. Also waited 27 minutes for ice feeders for my granddaughter

Called in on spec.A wide ranging menu with adult special offers .We had Scampi and Chips and Lasagne ,garlic bread and side salad . Followed by dessert of Chocolate Fudge cake and Ice cream and Apple biscotti pie and ice cream. With drinks.Good food friendly staff and great price .

First time we have been in the merchant, it was very busy but my husband and I managed to get a table. My husband decided to have the full breakfast, and when I say full, that's exactly what it was. I felt sure he wouldn't be able to eat it all, but he did. He said it was delicious 😋. I had scampi, chips and garden peas. It was ok, but I thought the chips were a bit dry. But it won't stop us from going back. The staff were very attentive, and the service was excellent 👏
