We we’re passing through Montrose and decided to stop for something to eat. The Market Arms had a soup and sandwich deal at £5, unfortunately for us the last of the soup had been sold to the previous customers. On looking again at the menu we both decided to take filled sandwiches with crisps a glass of milk and tea for my wife. We were served promptly by friendly staff all in all I was very pleasantly surprised as the sandwiches were nice fresh and tasty. Everything on the menu was very reasonable with quite a number of customers sitting within the premises. Would certainly go in for something to eat again when in Montrose Sandwich £2.70 each Glass of milk £1.60 Tea £2.00 Our total bill was £9 very good value indeed. 👍

Driving from Edinburgh to Stonehaven on a miserable cold and rainy day. Stopped for lunch at the Market Arms. Very limited menu but just what we needed - delicious homemade soups and simple sandwiches accompanied by a glass of cask ale. Bar staff friendly and nice atmosphere.

Good and very popular bar on High Street, handy for a beer before or after train journey. Were in on a Saturday evening and pub was very busy but got served very quickly. Squeezed into a corner table and had a good chat and laugh with locals. Nice pub for a friendly beer or two.

We arrived in Montrose in atrocious weather conditions and after some time fighting with the umbrellas and wet feet, we decided to take shelter in this pub, which I must say for a visitor did not have that first pavement impression ... Oh how wrong. We opened, the door, expecting to find a smoke filled, dirty pub only to find it relaxed, nice cosy areas and so friendly customers and staff. We found a table and sat down to enjoy a wee whisky. After a few minutes, we decided to stop for a bite to eat, as we felt so welcomed. Although it only did snacks, we decided to stop for a while and ordered the soup and sandwiches. Well that young woman in the kitchen was a wonder. She never stopped working and the bar staff were a joy, so friendly. A local gentleman, who overheard us discussing bus timetables, went out to confirm our bus timetable, then realised it was Saturday, went out again, informing us the timetable for Perth. Oh we're going to Aberdeen we said .... Out he went and came back to confirm the bus times. The soup was to die for, a hot spicey cream of Cajun with sandwiches. Needless to say we stopped for a wee while and left with a feeling of well fed and happy with the experience. Thank you to all the staff and customers we had the privlage of meeting .... Brilliant.

Went here today after getting bus from Aberdeen to Montrose, we picked our table and sat down, looked at the snack menu, my friend ordered the soup and sandwich combo and I ordered the burger, the soup came and it was like water with a few vegetables floating in it, my burger on the other hand was dry and tasted like it wasn’t home made it tasted like a chippy burger alright for the price but avoid this place

Visited market today for lunch with my friend , very busy so we sat at end of the bar , when we were abruptly told by red head you can't sit there , why not we thought ? Because he sits there every day all day , we were told , he being a man who supposedly collects glasses , we soon got a table after a couple left . The MAN who had seat at end of bar sat with a pint whole time we were there chatting to another bar maid .maybe a reserved sign should be posted on back of chair , obviously a valued member of staff unlike we were as customers , we were served our lunch by red head along with a dirty look and my soup being somewhat slammed on table . Very poor attitude , food was lovely as it always is , but spoiled by this member of staff , she said out loudly to guys sitting behind us she has no manners , how true , we then asked for our coffees which we had pre ordered to be told by red head I don't know what you ordered , isn't that her job to find out ? Will be back but hopefully service with a smile next time not a scowl

On arrival we asked if it was ok to bring the dog in to which we were told yes. Ordered our food (which was ok, you get what you pay for) sat down the two girls working were lovely. The owner/ manager on the other hand was rude in her approach to my dog & looked as if she was scared to smile. In all fairness my dog had been upset so I picked him up, she asked me to put him on the floor. This is not the problem I fully understand why. It was her mannerisms & the way in which she spoke to me. Retuning to Montrose in the next few months, I can safely say I will not be returning here. Small cafe a bit further up the road much nicer owner & food.

Feeling peckish we decided to try the Market Arms situated on the High Street of Montrose. A very good choice. The décor was lovely. It was very busy and we were lucky to get a table. I understand stand now why it is well frequented. It is excellent value for money. The snacks well all around £2 and for a large bowl of soup and sandwiches the cost is £2.90. I had a bacon roll and a pot of tea and couldn't fault it. The service was quick. Well worth a visit. I will certainly be back.
