The Manor in Tendring

The third time I have eaten there in the hope that it had improved. Food ok, however the noise from the bar & the swearing did not impress. It is not a place I would go for a special occasion or take a lady. The staff were pleasant but no one seemed to care about the language from the bar.

The food was delicious, we all had a starter, main and dessert. My main was duck, it was cooked perfect. We all could not fault our meal, and fabulous service.

We had been recommended to the Manor by friends and overall we were not disappointed. There was plenty of choice on the menu plus specials and the prices were reasonable. The service was very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious; good portions and piping hot. Will definitely go again - assuming they can sort out their heating (mild lunchtime in January but one coat and a couple of scarves stayed on throughout by members of our party). Also, an impressive array of beer taps but only one draught bitter available.

Read reviews online so thought I would give it a go. Went for a lunch with my wife, dad and partner. Nice location, Nice welcome, friendly/knowledge staff good menu and great food. Will defiantly come again. Don't think it's suited for children though. Good lunch out.

Visited with a group of friends for a work Christmas dinner. My Turkey dinner came out stone cold so returned it. A new meal arrived and I must say I wasn’t impressed. The starter pate was nice but 2 pieces of bread was not enough to enjoy all the pate so half was left. The turkey tasted like a cheap turkey roll and the roast potatoes were hard, Yorkshire’s were tasteless, so I left it. The Xmas pudding again tasted like a cheap microwaved pudding with the smallest portion of custard. Must say next year we will be booking elsewhere.

We went here to celebrate a birthday. We arrived at our table to find that our table had a Happy Birthday sign and sprinkles which was a lovely touch. There is ample choices on the Sunday menu and a few specials on a board. The food was delicious and all very well presented. The waitress was very attentive and so was the bar man. We didn't have to wait very long for all our meals. There is a lovely feel to this place and will definitely be returning soon.

Delicious food and great Sunday vibes of relaxed and not rushed. Great food for the children too - thank you!

Our party of six friends went for lunch and it was a lovely experience, relaxing atmosphere, attentive staff but not over-bearing, tasty food beautifully presented and a very reasonable bill at the end.

We were invited here by friends, it was our first visit to The Manor. We were not disappointed! The food was very tasty and well presented. We were very impressed with the portion sizes too. I spent ages choosing a gin as the gin menu was massive! Thoroughly enjoyed my rhubarb and ginger gin! Will definitely go back and think that our kids would love it too.

Would highly recommend this pub/bistro. Great food and wine. Exceptionally friendly and helpful. You’re allowed to take your dog inside if you stay in the bar area. We’ll go back!

Partner rang up the establishment For Sunday booked a table for 6pm and went in there they stop serving food at 3pm surely the staff should know this when making reservations and started to say do you mean the ship I’ve never heard or been to the ship very poorly stated about food times.

8 of us had a great time tonight all with different food all cooked to perfection.

Took our visiting friends there for a meal, my friend & I had the Duck which was absolutely fantastic, my wife had the scamp & my friends wife had the salmon which were both presented very well, which was also very good, very pleasant surroundings, nice pace to have a beer, very friendly & helpful staff, a hidden gem, looking forward to taking my brother & sister in law, who I know will not be disappointed.

Service good and friendly staff. Food was hot and good. Was duck really £18.95? Would not have chosen this at that price. Not a lot of fish on menu for someone who likes fish.

I found myself in the area with friends and we looked up where to eat and The Manor was recommended. Thank you TripAdvisor. An excellent experience for a weekday lunchtime. The place was not busy, the service was very friendly and efficient from young staff. We all chose fish dishes (it was a Friday after all) and they were all freshly cooked to perfection. I am pleased to recommend this place. A little away in land from the coastal resort of Frinton - but the village looks nice and well worth seeking out this place. Nice garden area as well. I hope to return.

Lovely atmosphere and staff very friendly and willing to please nothing was too much trouble.

I have visited three times in March/April, mid week dinner and Sunday dinner. The standards of the food are not what they were 12 months. Specifically, the curry dishes taste good but portion sizes were small. Roast dinner: Yorkshire puddings lacked taste, roast potatoes were not crunchy and appeared to have been cooked and left waiting for some time. Specifically asked if the roast lamb was well done, was assured it was and it arrived pink throughout. In the interests of balance the burger and chips were good and could not be faulted. Everywhere can have a bad day but over 3 visits the food quality and value for money are are going down.

First time at the Manor. Lovely People, great food sensibly priced. We had lovely evening and will be returning soon. Five star, well done guys.

Popped in for lunch on Saturday with family, the food was fantastic. Homemade burger cooked perfectly, homemade red Thai fish cakes with plenty of fish and spice. Friendly staff . Will be back soon x

Another great evening at the Manor, food was outstanding! The Christmas menu was great and the quality and quantity amazing. Service with a smile as always and the managers suit went to PJ's by the end of the evening. Thank you The Manor.

Every time we go to the Manor we have a really lovely meal, great service and atmosphere ... and we are able to walk there. A few weeks ago we took 30 friends there and the staff were so accommodating and helpful.

We visited here last week, when booking we were promised a round table as there were 5 in our party which makes it easier as no one has to sit on the end of a table. When we were shown to our table it was a large rectangular one laid out for 8 people so we sat down one end of it. When we sat down there was a large party behind who were making such a noise and were swearing a lot. We ordered and ate our starters and just before our mains the party behind left at last we could actually hear what we were saying to each other. Unfortunately the previous noisy party were replaced with an even noisier group so loud I couldn't hear what the person sitting next to me was saying. We tried to get the waitresses attention but could not be heard. We finished our mains and 2 of our party left the table to see if there was anywhere else we could sit to eat desserts but the place was full so we gave up and left. I did speak to someone when we paid and explained the situation to be told there there was nothing they could do about it, so even though we enjoyed the food none of us will be returning. Not the place to go if you actually want to have a conversation while you eat.

Visited yesterday with family who live local, Food was a reasonable price good service and very tasty, one minor criticism was there wasn’t much choice on the sweet menu, but we will be visiting again.

We went for an evening meal on recommendation. Very nice comfortable bar area and staff could not have been more helpful and friendly the only problem was a very noisy group of people which made it difficult even to talk to each other properly. My husband ordered a vegetarian meal and he said it was so hot it scalded his mouth and also made the food tasteless - it was cheese and spinach but he said you could not taste either. I ordered Ham egg and chips. There was plenty of thick cut ham but I was most surprised to find that it was not from a home cooked joint but it was a processed meat. What a shame from a restaurant with such a good reputation.

Great welcome, service, food and beer. Just the sort of place to enjoy a calm but very tasty lunch with family and friends. 2nd visit and definitely will not be the last time. Just go and enjoy. Highly recommended.

Not been here before, but I’m sure we’ll be back! We visited with friends last Tuesday. A delightful, cosy atmosphere in this tastefully refurbished pub/restaurant. The loos were spotless - always a good sign! The food was excellent, the service equally good. Highly recommended!

We went to the manor with friends and our two dogs ,the service and the food were wonderful they made us feel at ease with the dogs as soon as we arrived .and the evening was excellent

Booked late midweek but were accommodated without a fuss. Service and waiting time excellent. A good and varied menu with reasonably priced locally sourced fare of a high standard. Thank you for an enjoyable meal.

Our group of 4 couples venture out to find new venues to frequent. The Manor, first impressions, really cosy warm friendly inviting. Restaurant side, solid wood tables & Chairs, menu had a decent selection, food was for our budget, Quality tasty well presented food & plenty of it too. Staff, just the right amount of attention when required so for us it was perfect. Highly recommend this establishment.

Went for lunch with mum who is in a wheelchair.easy to get into the restaurant.we also had a small dog and he was allowed also into the bar area.he was given treats too and made a fuss of.the choices of food we had were the fish and chips,the spinach and ricotta cannelloni and the fish cakes followed by creme brulee and fondant pudding with ice cream.all dishes were delicious and served promptly .the staff were so friendly and welcoming.the restaurant and bar are beautifully decorated and warm and inviting.cant wait to go back in the evening or for Sunday lunch .

Had Sunday lunch over the Bank holiday and left very impressed .The place had a very homely feel to it and the service in the bar and restaurant was top notch,helpful,knowledgeable and attentive staff.

I booked a table for 12 and pre ordered food for a Friday night out with family. I did this through email but the staff rang me to confirm and couldn't be more helpful when I added a further guest to the table. On arrival we had a lovely waitress greet us and the evening started at the bar until we all had gathered. The food came and we were all happy with our choices. The chicken, halloumi and chorizo skewers to start were a particular hit. The rack of lamb was beautifully soft and the fish in the fish and chips huge! We were all impressed with how friendly and efficient the staff were and all at such good value. I am looking forward to returning.

Visited the manor this evening on the 25th August with two children and five adults

We booked a table for 5 for my birthday lunch. When we were shown to our table, we were met by a little blackboard on a tiny easel with Happy Birthday written on it!!!! There were little gold confetti sprinkles along the middle of the table. We were made to feel very welcome. I asked for a salad with my Sea bass instead of the vegetables which they did for me. They also grilled the sea bass instead of frying it as I am watching my weight! There was nothing they wouldn't do for us. The food was excellent and plentiful. I have no trouble what so ever in recommending The Manor. Will be back there again soon.

We visited this pub with our 93 year old aunt and had to eat in the bar as we had 2 dogs with us. The staff bent over backwards to help our aunt be comfortable and we had a very enjoyable evening with excellent food (belly pork fabulous!) and the most wonderful attention from all the staff without exception. I would not hesitate to go back. I also have to say that the bill was extremely reasonable in fact we had to double check they hadn't fogotten anything. They were also really attentive to our two dogs, providing water and treats. So lovely to go out with pooches and not be treated like 2nd class citizens! We will be back soon!!

This was the second occasion I have been here (my mother goes regularly). I will certainly be going back. The service is excellent - really friendly and very swift. The food is superb. The duck was particularly amazing last time, this time the (huge) jerk chicken was really tasty and beautifully cooked, as were the chicken wings. My daughter loved the hallumi fries, both kids said the burgers were delicious. I love the salads, and desserts were really lovely. The cost is very reasonable too! We were a little hot, but that was frankly down to the weather. I will definitely be going back. Highly recommended!

All the staff were so friendly, helpful & couldn’t do enough for us. Food was amazing - recommend the jerk chicken with sweet potato fries - so tasty & generous portions. Allowed us to bring in own cake (it was a birthday celebration), decorated it up with extras & candles for us and even provided a jug of cream to eat with it! Amazing service! Would highly recommend this cracking little gastric pub.

went with friends for a meal last night. So looking forward to a lovely fillet steak and they had just sold the last one!! at 7pm. So ended up having a starter for main with chips!! What we had was lovely. So my advice would be, if you want a fillet steak, perhaps mention this when you order so there is definitely one there for you to have. Apart from that all was good. The Halloumi skewers I had in the end were gorgeous...

Popped in to The Manor tonight with my wife for a meal, it’s the first time we’ve been able to get a babysitter for some time and we were looking forward to getting out for a few hours.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Manor. The staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. We went on a very busy night (a Thursday) and there was a big group of ladies that were a bit on the loud side making conversation a bit difficult, however on a different night it would have been absolutely fine.

Came here for lunch, nothing was too much trouble, meals well cooked and beautifully presented, Blink was as usual amazingly engaging and catered for my every whim. Will visit more often, very impressed

Ate here last saturday lunch time, there were 7 of us and 2 dogs, we were welcomed warmly and sat outside, we got too chilly and so sat in the bar, no problems at all. the lovely waitress Maria came and took our orders and the food arrived quickly. we all enjoyed our meals especially the halloumi fries <3 but most of all we all loved the handsome manager in the green suit and would go back specifically to see him. And the halloumi fries.

The pub is very well looked after, it looks great from the moment you approach it in the car. This theme continues throughout. The staff were all only to happy to help out all night. The food was great as was the drink. Great for family's as well as couples.a Would recommend a visit if you are anywhere in the area. Will visit again I'm sure, keep up the good work all who work there.

Family birthday. Tasteful and comfortable surroundings, warm welcoming staff. Good choice, big portions, well prepared and presented meals. Downside, not many dessert choices, would have liked a lighter dessert choice there ie sorbets, and not much for vegetarian/vegan on menu. I would have felt able to ask about those issues though, due to the good attitude of staff.

19.15 may 14th 2018. Lot of meals unavailable, and only one sea bass. Had a steak done to my liking very tender came with a small basket of chips , half a tomato and two onion rings £18.95. well overpriced. we also had Homemade fish cakes, these were dry ,and over cooked came with small basket of chips and a salad that was so small it was only a garnish overpriced at £11.95. its a fish shop and not a posh one.The place was cold one lady was eating in a coat,the waitress was wearing a jumper and boots (cold?) the waiter /barman was rude when we would not have a desert as they had no cheesecake only ice cream or cheeseboard WONT BE BACK

We often pop in for a pint at the weekends and have eaten here on more than one occasion. Staff are friendly and the food and beer are good.

Have been here since it opened and we arent often in the area, so in we popped.

We dined at lunchtime and were able to sit outside in the brilliant sunshine. A fabulous village pub that's unrecognisable from it's previous life. A warm welcome on arrival was followed up with friendly service throughout. The menu is mouth-watering making it difficult to make our final choices. We settled on the chicken, chorizo & haloumi skewers and the fishcake for starters. Both were really tasty and the fish cake was probably the best I've ever had as it was not your standard 'mashed fish & potato' - you could see chunks of fish!

We've been to this pub/restaurant a few times. It used to be called "The Ship" until a couple of years ago ( which was confusing as there's a pub with the same name 3 miles South and another 2 miles North ). All I can say is it looks better, the staff are more pleasant, and the food is very much better now that its in new hands and changed its name. Reasonable price for reasonable food and a reasonable choice.

Four generations of the family from age 2 to 86 enjoyed a lovely lunch. Nice one guys, the food was excellent, service was super friendly and great with the kids, really good value for money. It was generally agreed by all that this was the best Sunday meal out for ages.

Had quite a few meals here and they have all been really great. Nice atmosphere and very helpful staff. Great place to eat.

I’d booked earlier in the week for Good Friday. They responded quickly and made sure to ask for any dietary requirement. When we arrived the table was ready and had been decorated for my Aunt’s Birthday. As an elderly lady who really doesn’t get out much this made her day!! The staff were amazing; friendly and attentive, they didn’t mind adaptions to the menu. The food was lovely and had generous portion; not a bad meal between us. Good value for money. I’m glad we booked in advance for this day.

We live in the village over and decided to try for ourselves after my mother panned it. Nice frontage and location. Inside was again pleasant. Staff were friendly enough. The food however was below par. My burger had passed through Weely Crematorium prior to been served. Thick carbon bark on the outside and dry and chewy in the middle. Unacceptable. Chips were pale and serving in a mini wire crate outdated. Wife said her fish cakes were ok but I won't be back. Kitchen needs to sharpen up its ideas.

Visited the Manor today for a Mother’s Day lunch. Have been here on a few occasions, but not for a while. The food was wonderful. The scotch egg starter was absolutely fantastic and we had the beef and lamb for our mains with raspberry cheesecake to finish the meal perfectly. Chris, the Manager was as attentive and entertaining as we remembered, and always goes that extra mile to ensure an enjoyable visit, and always compliments to the chef and the staff that make up the great team at the Manor.

Not been here before. Lovely place, however a bit disappointing. We had two soft drinks. I have never been served such a small glass of pepsi before. The ice cube took up most of the room, really ridiculous size glass. The waiter took the time to read us the specials, perhaps it would be best to tell people what you do not have, as my choice of main was unavailable. Not a big menu so why the problem? Perhaps a casual uniform for staff, waitress in tatty ripped jeans (maybe a fashion statement) but messy look. On a brighter.note, food was hot and looked nice.

Interesting menu, service a little haphazard, curious decor. But the food was excellent, well presented and the whole experience was most convivial.

Went there today for a nice meal. Very much a mixed bag, lovely atmosphere, friendly people and the starters were very nice indeed. Portions are rather on the small side. However, my main meal (a special - pan fried duck) was only warm at best and served on a virtually cold plate, it tasted lovely, just cold. No waitress around to speak to and near the end I managed to tell her the issue and was given the reply "if we'd known we'd have warmed it up a bit for you" - that's all very well but at this quality and prices food should not need to be re-heated on serving. My dessert, also a special - wild berry crumble was again hit and miss. The crumble was lovely but served with the silliest smallest drop of custard ever seen, it did not even cover the surface of the crumble and the "wild berries" were really a type of paste such as that found in shop bought Mr Kipling pies. At no point were we asked by anyone if it was all ok. Sorry Manor, not really good enough for the prices charged.

Visited this restaurant as we had heard it was good. Timer to check it out for ourselves!

Had a lovely meal here last week with my husband - you can always rate a place on the quality of their chips, and they were some seriously tasty chips! Lots of choice on the menu and lovely friendly staff. Will be back!

Went to this resturant today & what a lovely place. Took my daughter who is in a wheelchair & has to have her food blended which was no trouble at all for the chef to do for my daughter. The staff was exceptionally helpful & friendly. We would 100% come back for a meal. Lovely place !!!!!!

We had a great evening at the Manor, it was mid week but the food,service and atmosphere were great. We had a table for 8 but had plenty of room, nothing was too much trouble! Thank you.

We arrived early & had a drink in the comfy seats in the bar area. We all ordered a starter & main course. 2 of us had the Portobello mushrooms with blue cheese & the other 2 had the King Prawns -both were delicious! For main course I had fish cakes and the others had steak, venison pie & lamb. All the dishes were absolutely delicious & very well presented. Portions were a good size too! The staff were lovely & could not do enough for you! Will definitely return soon & would recommend to anyone who wants a lovely meal!!

After driving past whilst visiting the area in halfterm October we decided to give The manor a try. The staff seemed disinterested more interested in enjoying there conversations with other patrons and each other. When we did get served my daughters food was cold. When going out for a family meal you expect the courtesy of being treated like a customer ..good and friendly service.

The pub only had a couple of people in but the two female staff made for a good atmosphere. The food was excellent! Will definitely be going back. Very nice décor and very clean.

Four of us had dinner and experienced good service and very good food. I cannot fault what I had to eat, the food was high quality, it was all cooked well and presented well. The food is of a high standard and considering the pub has only just been gutted and fully refitted, this is a good sign for the future.

Went to the Manor for my birthday with my family and had an amazing mrL. Service was brilliant and the staff were lovely. The food was really good and there was so much of it. Everything was cooked really well.

I visited here in October 2017 for a birthday lunch. The staff are very friendly and attentive, the food is lovely and the location is quaint. I'll be returning for sure.

We have tried to eat here several times but it has always been full, a good omen. And when we managed to treat ourselves it certainly didn't disappoint. The service is not only efficient but incredibly welcoming and friendly. We all had different options and I would definitely recommend the pesto chicken. The chicken and bacon pie and the whole sea bass were also good. The waitress proactively offered to remove the head off the fish for my daughter. I was meant to share the fish but there was no chance as my daughter finished all but a mouthful!! The creme brûlée was slightly tasteless and needed some vanilla but the other puddings were delicious. They were incredibly busy that day and if we were in a rush then we might have had a different experience. But overall a great experience made with good cooking and a wonderful atmosphere. We will be back for sure.

Went here at lunchtime today at 12, luckily one table left as we didn't book, (a good sign), after being seated by excellent staff we got an excellent menu, (which I must say has improved massively) from when they first opened, but must say, we wasn't disappointed, the food was delicious, 3 courses and couldn't fault anything.. I must say the chocolate fondant was outstanding.. very good value, very nice atmosphere and will return again and again... Thanku..

I returned for dinner with two friends .The Cocktails are amazing and the staff are all lovely , you are made to feel so welcome and they all have full knowledge of the menu .The food is delicious and I have trouble deciding what to order. The manor is perfect for any occasion and the staff will always make your visit relaxed and enjoyable .Well done The Manor

I ate here twice in August, once with the family and once with my wife. The food was excellent on both occasions. Steak cooked exactly as requested. Lambs cutlets cooked perfectly with a generous amount of meet. Portion size were consistently good. The staff are friendly and service is excellent. Even when all of the tables were fool the food came promptly. I look forward to eating here again in the near future. Make sure you book in advance.

Nice pub good location, it's a shame the food wasn't better. We chose this pub because the menu on website looked interesting , however the menu in the pub was run if the mill . Disappointed!

Very average. Certainly not gastro pub.. service was average..don't want to point finger as its unfair..just our opinion.

Brakes wholesale delivery trucks are frequent visitors here and so decent average pub fare is what you expect and what you get. Nice location and nice pub with decent service. "Gastropub" billing suggests more.

Visited today with my daughter as per her recommendation. We were greeted by a real nice man who seated us and served us drinks. I had the special of rack of lamb and my daughter had the fish cakes. Both were delicious and I ate every bit of mine. We both ordered the chocolate fondant for pudding, again it was delicious. The pub is lovely, decorated nicely with staff that are friendly, warm and welcoming. Will definitely be back

I now go every time i am back in the Uk, it's local so use it. . . The food is great, the place is great. . . the staff are slowly becoming an uptick too . .. All good here, keep it up guys. .

Since Franck's closed in nearby Frinton, finding a really good place to eat with a wide range of well cooked food has not been easy but at last thanks to Trip Advisor I have discovered The Manor and it is well worth traveling to eat here.

Went here last night with friends and had a really nice meal. Had fillet steak on the special and two others had the T bone....all done to perfection. The cheese camembert sharer starter was lovely too and also the puddings....wonderful. Service was good, all young staff but all smiling...very friendly and welcoming. Will be back. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Popped in on a lovely sunny evening, it was busy lovely welcome by staff. Had a fantastic meal cooked beautifully, staff are so friendly the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. We had a lovely meat platter which we shared it was huge followed by steaks, chicken and goats cheese salad and a chicken burger. All cooked beautiful can't wait to go back again.
