. . y me desanime. . My family and I have been visitors to the restaurant for years and I have been here with friends many times as well. We always order from the buffet menu which is a great value way to experience a number of dishes. We ordered a number of dishes from salt and pepper prawns, steamed dumplings and a chicken and sweetcorn soup and all the dishes arrived in good time, hot and tasty. This is then followed by a duck course and then finally the mains which again are all very good. All of your usual favourites are available as well as some new things to try. The service is always very friendly and interested in you having a good meal. We use the restaurant for normal meals out and special occasions and it never dissapoints. Definitely worth a visit.

We visited the Mandarin on a Thursday to celebrate a family birthday. The experience was average and the restaurant is not as good as it was under the previous management. It used to be the best in the area but not anymore. The food was fine but the service was lacking considering there were only diners at two of the other tables. The rock being played as background music was not really appropriate for the restaurant. So not really the best dining experience.

Went with family yo mandarin buffet,Never been a fan of all you can eats but this one was ok. You have about 20 dishes of starters to choose from and same again for main courses. Then you have to ask about duck. Little tip!As its better to order the half duck or 3/4 duck when you order starters as will be ready when for main course. The BBQ ribs on starters was nice and fried chicken in peppers. All starters were tasty.Main course the duck was a hit and then the double cooked pork and crispy chilli beef.Service was good and polite.Would go back if a group want to eat out. We had 5 in our group and was a Wednesday evening, so was quiet, which I liked.Enjoy.

This has been a favourite restaurant for several decades but visits since it was taken over proved disappointing. However we decided to give it yet another try and went with friends. We had the "eat as much as you want" menu and the food was plentiful and an improvement on our most recent meals. However the service was poor as there was insufficient staff on duty to meet demand. We were sufficiently encouraged to believe that we will return but it has a long way to go to match the Mandarin of old.

This has been our favourite restaurant for several decades, being the venue for many family celebrations. However following the change of ownership we became a bit disenchanted with the restaurant as food and service were not what we had been accustomed to. However we visited again recently and were pleased to experience an improvement. We all (4 of us) enjoyed our meal but the service still left a lot to be desired. Just do not think there was enough staff on duty to meet the demands of a busy restaurant. Hopefully the issue will be addressed by the new owners but we are encouraged so will be back.

We used to go to the Mandarin on a regular basis but then it went down hill and we stopped going. We went with another couple about six weeks ago and it was excellent we had so much food with the leave it to them menu. We took another couple of friends last night and the food was just as good and service excellent. It needs more people to go there to give it a try as it is certainly worth every penny.

We went here for the first time, as a birthday treat. Having phoned ahead to book our table, we seemed to be put on a table that I can only described as, an over flow table, that had been put in a tiny space. When looking through the menu we were told that we were not allowed more than 8 dishes on the table at any one time. We ordered our starters and I have to say, that every dish came out fresh and piping hot. We did in fact order a second round of starters as there was so many we liked. They came out, followed by the Peking Duck we ordered. The waiter made a mess while shredding our duck, flicking some of it on the table as he shredded our portion. We only ordered 3 dishes off the mains part of the menu, so you think they could of got it right, but egg fried rice came out, we had asked for special fried. The restaurant was filling up, the longer we sat there, they didn't turn any potential customer away. The meal was lovely, but it is not the best all-you-can eat Chinese I have been too. There are better out there.

We returned to this restaurant on a Saturday night as it is our favourite Chinese restaurant in the area. East as Much as You Like menu for £17.95 is good value and there is plenty to choose from and no skimping. This is definitely not a fast food restaurant. You need a good 2-3 hours here to enjoy the food at a leisurely pace and that’s another reason we like it. Wine is reasonably priced too. The manager knows us and always welcomes up with a smile and a joke. It was only about 50% full this time, with a couple of largish parties, though some of the other staff are less friendly.. It wasn't a late night, we were the last ones there at about 10.45 but we did feel that they were waiting for us to go home. One thing I did notice this time, though, (not that this would ever apply to us) is that one of the ‘rules’ of the Eat as Much as You Like menu is that if you are drinking tap water only, £1 per jug will be charged. I don’t think you should ever have to pay for tap water and what difference if you are paying for the food?

Went to the Mandarin after several years of not having visited. I remember this restaurant as a place to go for a special meal. Apart from one other table of guests we were the only ones in there. Sadly the restaurant is now very jaded, in need of a total refurb including the toilets. Went for the seafood 'leave it so us' which we hoped that although would be mainly seafood would also have the usual pancake duck element. Unfortunately after several variations of prawns we were begging for something different. The sloppy soggy mulched/regurgitated prawn dish to be wrapped in lettuce was particularly nasty. We did ask the water half way through the meal for a meat dish (duck) and they did oblige but the menu was not clear which is why we had made the mistake of all seafood! We had gone here for a Birthday occasion and sadly the meal did not live up to remembered expectations. All in all a real and expensive let down. I very much doubt we would ever return.

Arrived, restaurant dated. Staff efficient and friendly but hover far too much.Ordered from buffet menu, starters really good so was the crispy duck really tasty. Recommended. Built anticipation for the mains. We ordered beef, lamb and chicken dishes. The meat was unrecognisable in taste... very worrying beef was beige? Shame as the actual sauce was nice. I assume business is slow and they keep meat a lot longer than they should. Unfortunately I wouldn't visit again although I had a nice experience overall. Inedible meat is a no no for me.

Where do I start.... we moved to Cheam nearly two years ago now and have been working our way through the various eateries on offer. Some have been good some have been well lets just say some have been and leave it there. Even from the outside there is something special and impressive looking to the Mandarin which is probably subconsciously one of the reasons I've left it to last to try (I have a tendency to keep things I love till last) anyway I digress. Upon immediately stepping through the door it is clear this is another level of restaurant, offering tasteful relevant décor and a general nice atmosphere. We were swiftly shown to our seats which were more than adequate gathering we hadn't booked and it was a busy night! My company opted for the all you can eat menu but me being the awkward veggie opted for the menu. It is worth mentioning at this point the wonderful Asian waitress actually told me she could offer me a special Veggie version of the all you can eat therefore costing me less!I won't ramble on too much and get to the point, the food was all freshly cooked and freshly prepared sourced etc. Provided it was a very busy night our waiting time between courses was kept to a perfect steady constant, not too long and not so quick it's obvious they want you out!The two Asian waitresses were excellent and fully attentive to our needs. In summary a huge thumbs up to all at the Mandarin. Best Chinese restaurant around by far.Already counting down the days till our next visit.

Our family have been visiting this restaurant for 30 years and we were sad when the original owner Johnny decided to sell it in 2014. I'll admit we were all dubious about re-visiting it with the new owners but we needn't have worried. They have kept the original chef on as well as the eat-as-much-as-you-like menus and our experience was just as wonderful as it's ever been! The food was all freshly cooked to order and the starters in particular were amazing. I'd highly recommend the salt fish fillets and tempura beans. We had a feast fit for a king with friendly service to match. I didn't catch the name of our waiter sadly but he was awesome. Congratulations on continuing on the reputation of a wonderful restaurant. Credit to you and I look forward to coming back for the next 30 years!!!!!

I went with a friend to the Mandarin yesterday for the first time, and we ordered the Mandarin's 'Seafood Leave-It-To-Us Feast'. Well, it most certainly was a FEAST!!! The food was really fresh and bursting with tantalizing flavours. We had so many wonderful dishes, we literally lost count! The food kept coming in abundance and the portions were fit for a king. 100% credit to the Chef! All the staff were really friendly, attentive and helpful in explaining the dishes to us. What we couldn't eat, the staff packed in 6 containers for us to take home, so nothing was wasted. This was truly an amazing and enjoyable experience for both my friend and myself. I am keen to visit again soon with my family, so that they can share in the experience too.Cookie

Have been going to this restaurant for at least 30 years. The last owner retired and sold to the present owners who are not chinese. When we went last time (end of last year) the old owner was still there overseeing the takeover and the food was delicious. We went last night for my husbands birthday - service was bad, house wine which was always lovely was the cheapest rubbish they could provide. We chose the menu where you leave it to the cook to provide the choice as we always have done in the past. The food when it arrived was appalling and only half the amount it used to be. The beef was inedible as it was just fat and gristle, everything was covered in chunks of chillies, chunks of onion and goodness knows what else. By the time our peking duck course came, it was so small there was about enough for one and half pancakes each (used to be 3 each). One bite of the made up pancake finished us off - the duck was so tough and dry we just asked for the bill and left. One hour after getting home I had upset stomach which 20 hours later is just feeling better - my husband was also ill today. Anyone who goes thinking it is the original Mandarin IT IS NOT. beware you may get food poisoning as we did.

The service was slow and we constantly had to keep reminding the staff about our drinks orders. The food was also very disappointing, sickly sweet sauces which didn't seem to taste any different from one another, chicken which looked like it had been pumped full of water and our crispy duck and crispy beef was more incinerated than crispy.Myself and the rest of my group all felt horrible afterwards.Incredibly disappointing. This was once my top reviewed Chinese restaurant. Before the takeover of new management this place served up the very best of Chinese, all prepared on the premises and tasted totally different to any other Chinese. Now that has all gone, disappeared, although everything looks the same don't be fooled.I had the unpleasant experience of ordering my usual favourites yesterday, what a big let down. This is the sort of Chinese muck that most Chinese takeaways serve up that has been sourced from the local cash and carry Chinese suppliers. Its bland, poorly prepared, sub standard, low quality, mass produced, cheap and nasty rubbish that is available from anywhere where they couldn't care less about what they serve. This is the sort of food that makes a pot noodle look good.Last time I reviewed this place I gave it five stars, this time I gave it one star only because it doesn't give you a word that is worse than 'terrible' This stuff really should be left to the pet food industry, how do you run any restaurant with this gear. If this place is going to survive it will have to hire a chef and ditch the suppliers it is using. Cant see this place lasting too long, not with food like this so here is my prediction. The restaurant will either change hands again in the very near future or will turn into a mini mart or some other retail outlet, with food at this standard it will never stay as a restaurant.

BEWARE! We ordered online for collection last night. When my husband got there he noticed the menu on the wall was £1-£1.50 cheaper per dish than what we’d paid from their website. He asked the man behind the counter what was going on and the man just said “deal with it! You shouldn’t have ordered online then should you”. He was rude and laughed at my husband. We won’t be back and I want others to be aware as clearly they know they’re ripping people off and find it funny!

Outstanding service and food. Really tasty starters: spicy prawns & satay chicken with spicy peanut sauce. Peking duck was perfect, huge portions. Mains on set menu B were beef with bamboo shoots & mixed veg, chicken in black bean sauce (spicy), noddles with beansprouts and prawn with cashew and bamboo shoots. Enormous portions plus crust spicy green beans. Took home the remainder- enough for 3-4 people. They even brought out their own special tea. A great evening .(10/10 food )
