Have been here so many times over the last few years, sometimes for breakfast, mostly for lunch, and often for impromptu coffee and cake, with a fabulous view. Have yet to have a bad experience with either the food or the service, just be prepared to wait as Keith cooks everything from scratch and to order so it’s fresh quality vs speed… His Mum’s homemade cakes are *chefs kiss* and I couldn’t decide if the burgers or toasties are my favourite. How he does it all day every day, and with a smile, I don’t know, but we are so happy he does! Planning to keep coming back regularly as long as he is open, it’s definitely a preferred lunch spot for us.

It's a lovely little hut with beautiful views right across Epsom Downs - at lunch time there will sometimes be 30 minute queues, he mostly serves one person at a time, occasionally takes 2 orders at once, but it is SO WORTH THE WAIT! You will get a tray for your food which you can do what you please with, take it to your car, take it to the grass nearby or even over to the downs, and pop it back when you're finished. Keith has run this place for years, I'm almost 30 now and I remember him from when I was a kid, I've been there at least 100 times over the years and I've not had one bad experience - he is very polite, accommodating, nothing is too much trouble and he obviously works his backside off. Through COVID he has mostly been working alone, long hours, 7 days a week, with a bit of help from his mother, so the brand new car now parked out back and now being closed on Monday is truly deserved. The food is unrivalled in it's price bracket - as in, we pay 15-20 quid for 3 people and get food that is easily worth twice the price, even including a nice homemade cake to finish everything off, but I'm so glad it doesn't cost that much because it's just so worth it, everyone can afford it and enjoy it, I don't know what deal he has on that little hut but he is able to charge very reasonable prices for very good food, and the view that comes with it is the icing on the cake, we usually get a cheese and bacon burger, veggie burger, and 3 chips (1 for my daughter) with either cold or hot drinks and some cakes, maybe an ice cream for the daughter. The bread is delicious, the burgers are delicious, and the chips are nice and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside - you never now which shape chips you'll get, crinkled or straight but that is part of the magic of this place. The cakes are homemade by Keith's mother and taste a million times better than any of the dry sorry pieces of card you'll find in Costalot or Stealbucks!!! There's just something about all of it - the whole experience, it's not 5 star dining, it's just good old grub, served with a smile and a brilliant view of the Racecourse our very own Queen Lizzy likes to visit. What is not to love? Don't change anything Keith - it's perfect as it is. I know as soon as Keith retires, unless he personally oversees the handover, it's going to be come yet another gentrified 20 pound per person piece of dog droppings we see popping up everywhere these days, I know for a fact if that happened you'd see a petition with 1000s of names on to change that, I'd sign it. I promise you if you have ever had a bad experience here, if you told Keith I know he would put it right, or he would have a very good reason as to why, he doesn't mess about. Best place in the whole of Epsom to eat for me, no doubts. Don't forget to get your mince pies here every Christmas, starting I think some time in November, but might be late October, they are the best mince pies on the planet, you can pre-order a batch of them to take home or get one there and then to eat.

Virtually every time we visit Epsom we come here for a hot drink and something to eat and we have never been disappointed. Good food, very good price and the best view in Epsom. I love Scampi and chips and their's always comes with a bit of salad which is such a change from other "better" establishments. Can't fault it.

Just fancied a coffee and a view over the downs and remembered The Lunch Box next to the track... Had the best Egg and Bacon roll ever...don't know if it was the little bit of salad or the thin layered bacon but it was amazing... They also do great chips and have a large range of homemade cakes which looked amazing !!! Recommended

This little food outlet, supplies tasty affordable food, which you can sit in your car and have or sit on the grass, weather permitting. I found the proprietor extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and able to conjure up basic fare, hot or cold, and a good selection of cakes or standard snacks.

Best bacon roll and Chips on Epsom Downs. Freshly cooked food and excellent service. The car park behind the Lunch Box is big enough for many cars.

I've eaten here, and had cups of tea, but that is a rare occasion as it's hard to find it open. It's a shame as this is in such a prime spot, with dog walkers, riders, runners, cyclists. It needs to be open more to serve the public. The owners could make a fortune if they traded better hours. There is nothing else like this on the Downs so it seems a shame that this one isn't providing the service it could. The chap who runs it is pleasant enough and what I've eaten and drank has been good. It's just so disappointing to see it shut up.

This is a true gem Location--- well its right in the downs so if you cycle make sure you pay a visit great view and sage with your bike limited benches though but it's a public area so I blame the council Food-- proper food at good prices when I did office work I used to get everyone's food and I never had a complaint and they always told me to drive and get more! Staff-- friendly and have a good knowledge of the local area Parking-- it's based next to a car park :) Anyway if your fitNess freak or a hungry builder you will love this place

Even the day after the Derby the quality of the food at the Lunch box fro mKeith is the same superb quality it always is. I went up today, as the sun was shining and wanted alfresco dinning. Chesse Burger and Chips x 2 with drink all for less than £10 what could be better.

The best eatery on the Downs, beats the pubs etc. I go regularly for a walk and then visit the Lunch Box run by Keith and a lovely older lady. The staff are always happy and smiling. The food is excellent and cooked / made to order (chips are double fried). On my last visit I had pasty, chips and salad, pasty was amazing and very full. I am not a lover of pasties but his are amazing.Carpark behind is always busy but try to get a front row to have a great view whilst eating lunch etc.Would recommend to anyone who passes by.

This is an exceptionally little place... no more than a rusticated cabin serving food and refreshment through a serving hatch but... it seems to be a Godsend of walkers, runners, cyclists and motorists who want to enjoy one of the best views in England over Epsom Downs with a cup of tea, a light snack or a more substantial plateful in their hands. We went up to the Downs to enjoy the heavy snows in January as soon as the roads were clear and had a great afternoon in virtually white-out conditions. After walking about two miles through the deep snow... we retreated to the Lunch Box. A really warm welcome "What can I get for you Dear?" and then insulated beakers full of piping hot tea and coffee, home made shortcake and really scrumptious, moist bakewell tart with lovely glacé cherries on top. There was a queue when we arrived but a few minutes later we were served with a smile. It was a real pity that we were on the way home for supper because the hot pasties on display looked really tempting and, had we been willing to wait while food was freshly prepared and cooked, we could have had all manner of things. If we had been feeling extra posh, there was even a range of speciality teas on offer... They are just a wee bit mean with sugar and condiments. Tea and coffee come sugared on request and it's a bit awkward to retrieve more sugar from inside the hatch. Same goes for ketchup and brown sauce by the looks of things. With a large car park behind, a couple of benches to sit on overlooking the downs and one of the best sunset viewpoints in the area, the "Lunch Box" is in a grade A location. It’s only a cabin... but what it does is exceptionally good.We liked best the warm welcome and the fresh home cooked cakes. We liked least the fact that sugar was almost out of reach.Top Tip: Park facing the racecourse to enjoy the view while having the refreshment.

Such a special place to visit, this small garden centre has a great feel about it. Now part of charity Waythrough, it helps local people with mental health challenges with their recovery. Home made cakes, panini, soups and great coffee. Dogs very welcome….Horton country park is opposite.
