How excited was I, along with my 3 year old grandchild and husband to have found a quaint place to stop for tea and cakes after a long journey. My grandson especially at the thought of being able to choose his cake. Unfortunately we were all met with unexpected rudeness to say the least. An unfriendly welcome and an eagerness not to have us dine there. I have to question the reason why ? Too busy - does this excuse bad customer service? Dress code - not an issue Colour of skin - i will leave that with you. We were with a child who we are teaching how to respect and treat others. Tea at 18 - a great example set for him. Well done…. NOT!

I visited recently with a friend on a Saturday morning. The tearoom has a great menu with options for vegans (why I chose to visit) and is beautifully decorated. The staff are really lovely and considerate and one lady even announced that a large dog was about to be walked through to the outside area - as a dog lover, I had no qualms, but was impressed by her service and consideration for her customers. There was a steady flow of customers during my visit, clearly a popular place. I look forward to returning. Only thing to note is that it’s quite inconspicuous on the street - but don’t give up looking for a it!

Tea at 18 fitted us in without a booking, but we were lucky - this is a very popular venue! Deservedly so. Our sandwiches were top notch and the cakes were terrific. Service was excellent, and the tea was proper, good and strong, served in a china teapot with china cups and saucers. My 87 year old mother is not always easy to please but she hasn't stopped talking about this place since we went there. Very good value, and a nice relaxed vibe. A good wide menu too, with a range of chalk board specials and bread choices. Thoroughly recommended.

The owner gave him a book to look through and there was talk of those he remembers who are still in the village. We had a wonderful fresh pot of tea and a lovely sandwich. My father and I had the delicious Victoria sponge and my husband the scone with jam and clotted cream which he said was lovely. We all ordered tea and we were given beautiful porcelain cups and extra hot water (a boon for a drinker of black tea). We were served by the owner who is a very warm and gracious hostess. This is a small Tea Room probably only known by word of mouth, however its so nice it deserves a wider audience. This was our second visit. My wife and I had an Afternoon Tea and my daughter a sandwich and cake. The finger sandwiches were absolutely delicious with cheese and tomato, smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham and cucumber. you could mix and match if there was something you didn't like. This was followed by homemade scones, cream and jam (selection of flavours) these were absolutely lovely and not to big to very fill you. I has two with currants in and my wife plain. this was then followed by a large cake or cheesecake. I opted for a strawberry layer cake which was made up of four layers of sponge, cream, strawberries and jam. Absolutely delicious. The afternoon teas and my daughters sandwich/cake and drinks only came to £27. Afternoon Tea was only £9 an absolute bargain. Will certainly be going again. They do a range of sandwiches, cakes and soup as well as Afternoon Teas. The place is small and intimate making it special. Booking is essential. A hidden gem not to be missed. Soup, cakes and scones are all homemade and the bread is from a local bakery. Very reasonable prices too. We popped in for coffee - to tell the truth we were on the way to Whittlesey but the road was closed and we had to turn around, So we were a bit disgruntled as the diversion signs, as usual in this country, were confusing as they pointed in 2 different directions - 1 down a dead end and 1 back where we came from!!So coffee was an important and necessary soother.Peter in the coffee shop was very welcoming and chatty and quickly served us our drinks - coffee and a lovely hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows - yum!My husband enjoyed his coffee - and he is a connoisseur as he drinks it black and decaffeinated so can be a bit critical of poor flavours. We didn't have food on this occasion but I did notice the famed Victoria Sandwich with blackcurrant jam which did look delicious so definitely that is a must try on our next visit!A couple of people popped in for pre ordered takeaways while we were there so I really hope this business thrives - Thorney is a very pretty village with a magnificent Abbey and needs this lovely traditional tea rooms for that snack or luscious cake or coffee.

I've been to Thorney a few times but this was my first visit to The Lovely Little Tea Room. Right from stepping inside the gorgeous surroundings we were made to feel welcome. Amanda introduced herself and got chatting to each and everyone one of us, including the five year old girl we had brought with us. We went for afternoon tea which was a bargain at £9.50 a head and included:2 mini scones each (one plain, one fruit)Selection of finger sandwiches with various fillings (cheese & tomato, tuna salad, smoked salmon & cream cheese and ham)Coffee or a tea eachSlice of cake from the bar (aero cheesecake, the special 'sunday cake'. chocolate brownie, cheese scone, carrot cake, victoria spounge and more!)The food arrived and was presented beautifully, the tiers were something Mary Berry would be proud of! The finger sandwiches were stuffed full of filling and the scones were to die for. There was nothing too much trouble, the staff made us feel like royalty. The mini scones, accompanied with jam and clotted cream of course, were to die for. They sit amoungst some of the best scones I've ever eaten! There was a great selection of jam to choose from too.The coffee was fresh and tasted great.I had the carrot cake for afters which was devine, packed full of walnuts and the tastiest cream cheese frosting! Little lady had a chocolate brownie and the others went for the special 'Sunday cake' a gorgeous three layer spounge topped with fresh cream and strawberries. The reason it is so special is Amanda only serves it on a Sunday! It was light, fluffy and sweet enough to satisfy the cravings but not sickly sweet. Little lady's brownie looked absolutely gorgeous too! The Lovely Little Team Room is great if you want something with a family feel - the staff right from the get go treated us as if they'd known us for years and were so polite, helpful and great with the kids we took. Parking in Thorney is a bit of a problem area so I'd recommend leaving more time for your journey if you end up placing a reservation. If you're in this neck of the woods pay this tea room a visit and over January they're giving away a cake as well!

I absolutely love this place! Since the new owners took over last Summer the place has just been fantastic. I've visited with friends, family and work colleagues. Always made to feel welcome whether in a big group, small group, with children or having a takeaway. I love all the cakes there but have an addiction to the cheesecakes and would strongly recommend you try them. It has got to the point that I visit weekly for cheesecake and the owners know my family and me on first name basis haha,

Visited with my husband and in laws for afternoon tea. A great selection of sandwiches, very nice scones and yummy cakes. Excellent value for money and very friendly staff. They were very attentive and happy to top us up with tea or coffee if we wanted it. My mother in law was too full to eat both her scones so they wrapped one up for her to take home including a pot of cream! We were made to feel very welcome. We will definitely go back!

We called in to Thorney en route to Norfolk as my other half remembered there was a classic car garage so we decided to have a look, to my delight, next door to the classic car garage there was this lovely little tea room! we looked at the cars for sale and then went into the tea rooms. It was warm and cosy and a welcome shelter from the bitter cold wind. We ordered drinks; cappucino and a latte. There was an impressive array of sweet treats which looked very tempting, we opted for toasted teacake and brownie which were delicious. I can imagine it gets full very quickly as it is only small but it is well worth a visit...., especially if you like classic cars :0) Friendly proprietor and warm welcome.

A little haven of warmth and deliciousness. Amanda the owner, had made an amazing Victoria Sponge cake with buttercream and a delicious blackcurrant conserve, perfect partners.I have been twice and Amanda remembered us, great customer service. Love the tea cups and the vintage crockery, a great eye for detail.

We visited on a sunny Wednesday afternoon and our Victoria Sponge with Blackcurrant Jam was amazing. My husband had coffee and my pot of tea gave me two cups. The china was very pretty. The lady who owns the tea room was very pleasant and friendly. If we are in the area again will certainly visit again.

Love stopping off here after a walk around the park with my dog, we are always welcomed and sit in the sunny courtyard at the back of the cafe. I adore the milkshakes and my daughter had the best cheese toastie of her life today. Always new cakes to try and a real highlight of our dog walks.

The locals are supporting this little Tea Room too, and deservedly so! It's a happy and welcoming place to rest, meet people, have a home cooked scone (baked early each morning), soup on a cool day....you must try it! Oh - and the milkshakes are superb!

When you enter the Lovely Little Tea Room on a chilly December morning, you're first embraced by the warmth inside: then the scent of fresh coffee hits you, and your eyes bulge at the spread of delicious cakes, biscuits and pies on offer. Taking a seat by the window, the kind staff will make a first class coffee - try the cappuccino! and you can leisurely consume your food: in addition to the desserts, the cheese and bacon toasted panini is highly recommended. In short, it is called "The Lovely Little Tea Room", and so it is.

My friend and I went to see what this was like and we weren't disappointed. Cute little place and friendly staff. The milkshake was amazing and the size of the cake was huge! You certainly won't go hungry here! All in all a very pleasant experience.

On the way home after visiting the lowest point in Britain at Holme Fen we drove through the now by passed village of Thorney the quiet Main Street has a garage selling vintage cars and next door is a modern gem a small tea shop a few tables outside at the front flank the road the huge windows bring light inside where two tables per window provide comfortable people watching or chairs facing the large array of huge homemade cakes, variety of cupcakes and selection of tray bakes all looked delicious and the flake cheesecake I tried melted in the mouth a crumbly base and sweet filling a perfect afternoon treat. The pot of tea for two was generous strong and full bodied the thin China cups were the ideal drinking vessel for afternoon tea like the tea shop something good from a bygone age. The new proprietors have only been here eight weeks but have turned a roadside cafe to a tea shop to be proud of I hope they get the support they deserve. The barista coffee range is also available together with sandwiches paninis and delicious biscuits. There are tables in the garden at the back but settled in my comfortable window I failed to venture there. Getting up to pay I was pleasantly surprised at the bill for two at six pounds. If I am in Thorney again I will be back if you are in the area I hope this review will be helpful and tempt you to give it a try.

this café is an un assuming little café but the cakes, scones and sandwiches are all a cut above the rest. The café is prettily decorated and the service warm and friendly. It has many homely touches - like the knitted tea cosies and bone china crockery. And they do "bake your own cake parties" - a perfect way for children to celebrate their birthdays. I loved it.

30 years after moving to Peterborough………..Attended a special “casino” evening with U3A group, some thirty or so people and many other people. The restaurant was busy, the service was very good, the food was delicious and inventive, the ambience was warming. I am definitely going again. These students, after a hard day of lectures, tutorials or whatever, worked their socks off to produce excellent results and so many happy and satisfied customers …..wonderful. I was impressed.
