Just had a Tuna Sandwich, salad and tortilla chips. The sandwich was flat with the tiniest scraping of tuna on it, you could see the fingerprints where someone had pressed down and cut the bread. The salad was brown, and there was probably half a dozen poor quality tortilla chips. This cost £7.50 and I really wish I had stopped at a petrol station instead.

I use this lounge frequently for business. It is a lovely quiet lounge to meet for a coffee. The staff there are so friendly and helpful. Coffee is great and you are never rushed. Great place to meet and also to chill out.

When we arrived at the Doubletree Hilton in Dundee we had a light lunch in the bar area and it was more than good with interesting food options. However we noticed the restaurant called "the Maze" was open from 6pm. So we arrived after 7:30pm for dinner and it was a fabulous experience. The ambience and setting was first class and the friendly host so welcoming and informative. Mood lighting and raised ceilings and the outside garden made this special. The wine list was good and the menu gave us variety. Entrees of calamari with chili and confit of duck leg in lentils amazing. The duck melted in the mouth. Mains of pork belly and chicken breast stuffed with haggis were both exceptional. Dessert of berries and the sticky caramel pudding made for a perfect end to an amazing dining experience. This restaurant can hold its head high as the standard is amazing. Well done to the management.

Popped in for lunch as we live nearby and thought we should try it out. We weren't sure if it was table service or not as no one came to give us menus so we asked for them at the bar. We both had the cheese and ham panini which was ok, nothing special and the cheese was not very flavorful at all. The chips they came with were the usual bog standard affair. The price is where it was let down and we felt it was expensive for what it was. No doubt the prices are more for hotel guests as opposed to visitors popping in for lunch as you could get a similar lunch for a few pounds less per person at a number of places reasonably close by.

Arranged Afternoon Tea for two as a birthday surprise for a friend and arrived at 2pm as booked. Pot of Breakfast Tea for two delivered to our table at 2.55 pm (in spite of asking for one to be Earl Grey). Milk arrived about 10 minutes later, food about 10 minutes after that, followed in slow succession by sugar, jams and finally - my Earl Grey tea! Only one waiter appeared to be serving about 10 tables and he kept forgetting things. The actual food was very nice, but the whole afternoon was spoiled by such slow and careless service and I was left apologising to my friend in embarrassment. Not what we expected from a hotel in this chain.

Tiny portion of fish served and charged 15 quid for the pleasure, this is no more than an average pub lunch at best. Nothing worse than feeling you're getting ripped off and that's exactly how I felt.

Stayed at the hotel on two occasions last year and used the Lounge, which is very comfortable, with complimentary newspapers available. Although this is used as the Bar, the staff did not pressurise me to buy drinks, and were all very friendly. I liked the hotel and will certainly stay here again when in the area.

We had a 3 course meal at the Maze Restaurant and I have never eaten a nicer meal and been so stuffed. I have to mention the waitress who served us. Her name was Inga .... She was the nicest waitress Iv came across ever. So attentive and really went out her way to make our dining experience one of a kind. She was brilliant. The breakfast in morning has so much variety and everything tastes amazing.

Had our Christmas party night here. We were seated right next to the dance floor which was the size of a postage stamp. The music was very loud while we were eating so we asked for it to be turned down so we could chat and eat. It obviously got turned back up at the end of the meal, very noisy. The food was good, not great and some of the people in our group felt the portions were not great and were still hungry. The drinks, as you expect in a hotel at this time of year were expensive, service could have been better. They would only serve you drinks at your table if you were using a kitty otherwise you had to go to the bar yourself.

Average chain restaurant experience. I booked an evening meal for thirteen guests and were given a long table which made conversation very difficult, however we did have a private area to ourselves in the Orangery. The staff were very friendly but unfortunately the service was slow and we waited over an hour for our first courses. Orders weren't taken systematically so half the table didn't get drinks .. Just little things but they marred the experience. The menu was very varied and the food good, and extra touches like a glass of champagne as it was my birthday were appreciated. Unfortunately we were overcharged by almost £200 which did get picked up but it left us a little unsatisfied given the long waits and breaks in ordering. The staff were helpful when booking the reservation :)

Although not in the Lounge itself, presumably the same kitchens service the Function rooms too.The staff were welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. The three course menu was surprisingly sophisticated, with a trio of choices for each course, had something for everyone; fish, vegetarian and pork mains. I was impressed that, unprompted, the head waitress brought a children's menu, which was excellent, for my six year old but, having decided my eleven year old was a bit beyond that, and possibly a bit young for the main menu, brought him a bar menu to choose from.

I debated between room service and the dining room. Glad I chose coming downstairs. The setting is very homey, almost pub-like. Comfortable seating for small groups (6 max). Being in the Angus region, you have to go with the local beef. Outstanding! The service is attentive and the bar is well-stocked. Tremendous variety of Scotch expressions. I, however, chose the Tennents Lager for dinner. Saving the Scotch for the after dinner drinks and distillery tours. My only concern is the pace of service. By European standards, this may be on par. Americans may be concerned about the length between order and delivery. If I had opted for room service and experienced this, I would have wondered if coming to the dining room would have been faster. I am confident now that it likely would not.I would definitely come again, and look forward to doing so. Highly recommended.

I recently stayed at the hotel and went for a meal on our first night.First we had over 30 minutes for a table due to the function before. This wasn't an issue but we were told that we would be called in when our table was ready, however other families went in before we decided to make our own way over. Then we both ordered the crab cakes which looked nice but we're very sloppy and watery when cut into and it didn't help that my wife round a dead flying insect fried onto the top of hers. To the fairness of the staff it was replaced and taken of our bill, which was nice.I have to say if it wasn't for the lovely Inga who served us it wouldn't have been a pleasant experience. On the whole I would visit again but not on a day when the room was being used for another function.

Had dinner in The Maze restaurant with my partner. We both started with Ham & Pea soup which was delicious before choosing from the bar menu, despite sitting in the restaurant. We ordered steak pie (the portion was extremely generous and the steak succulent) and a Green Thai Curry which was very, very tasty.Service throughout was friendly and warm from the waiting staff.I'd highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone, one of if not the best restaurant in the City of Dundee.

I took my father to the Maze restaurant for lunch. It was fine, except that the pannacotta we both had for dessert was tiny. My father remarked that they must have used an eggcup as a mould! A bit steep for £7.50 each, even garnished with some strange-tasting rhubarb. But the most astonishing thing was the £7 price for one large glass of house white wine. Also do beware that the Maze gets incredibly hot and uncomfortable when it's a warm day because it's like sitting in a greenhouse. We did ask if they could open one of the doors, but as it kept closing itself, it wasn't much help.

My dad booked this restaurant for my mum's 83rd birthday. Finding restaurants open in Scotland on the 2nd January is not easy. The food was very expensive for what was received and one of the starters - described as haggis was clearly black pudding. The food is French cuisine - tiny portions on a large plate and the vegetables were extra which my parents didn't realise. My parents are very happy to pay for a great meal but feel very disappointed and ripped off by the meal here and it's cost.

Visited the restaurant today for afternoon tea with my daughter and was initially apprehensive as we had been when it was the old Swallow hotel and the food was always first class so we were concerned that the move to a more 'chain type' hotel would be detrimental. We should not have been worried. The food was delicious and plentiful...we couldn't finish everything. Even though a wedding was going on in the adjacent rooms and the staff were clearly busy the service was first rate. The girls who served us could not have been more attentive. We will be back again and again...

My family and 30 guests attended a funeral tea. We arrived at the hotel from my mother's graveside and were greeted by Jodie the bar manager who led us to a beautifully set out room. The staff were friendly, soup was warming, sandwiches were abundant a shame the fillings were scant, cakes were delicious. The free bar which was set up in the room soon became a problem as there were inadequate staff to man the service. Jodie then arranged table service which worked out well. As guests left eight of us retired to the lounge. My brothers went to the bar to order and collect drinks and the bar staff were attentive until my older brother was refused any more credit. This was a surprise as we had not set a cash limit when we made the arrangements. Jodie the bar manager eventually appeared in the busy lounge to tell my brothers the bar bill was £442.80 and her only explanation was that she "had the right to refuse to serve alcohol". I settled the bill and asked Jodie to write down the reason she was refusing to serve any more alcohol on the bar bill and she refused. Family, friends and I have attended weddings, funeral teas, dinners etc in the hotel when it was called the Swallow this is our first experience of the new management and assuredly will be our last.

This pub is an old fashioned looking bar, but that is no bad thing and I would happily return. Friendly, chatty bar staff and a decent atmosphere about the place. We were here for drinks only, but there was a decent pub grub menu. Only a few minutes walk from the city centre and a good place for a few beers.

Visited with husband and 2 grown up children before a show. The menu is quite compact but we all managed to choose different dishes so we could try everyone's! We had crostini, fishcakes and blaggis to start. All perfectly pleasant. The crostini in particular was popular. Our mains again were lovely although I found the pork a little dry and uninspiring, the mash could have been creamier. The star of the show was the onion rings we ordered on the side - these are delicious. We didn't have time for pudding so asked for the bill. This took a while to come. When it did arrive, we noticed one of the bottles of wine hadn't been added. We pointed this out and it was taken away to be amended. We again waited a LONG time, the kids went upstairs to the bar and a server eventually returned the same bill saying they couldn't fix it and just to add the price of the wine on it! I didn't find this very professional and was actually a bit uncomfortable as I tried to work out how much we owed whilst also trying to sort out a tip! It really spoiled the end of what had been quite a nice meal. To sum up, probably wouldn't visit again The food is fine, the environment pleasant and handy obviously for the theatre! However, whilst nice enough, I found the servers to be a bit unsure and not terribly skilled in the execution of their job.
