The Lotus in South Lakeland

This must be the worst Chinese restaurant/ carry out in the entire world, they must have thrown them out of china for cooking so badly, we ordered the complete meal for 2 and extra vegetable spring rolls, ok , the ribs were good as was the prawn crackers , the spring rolls were mostly onions , the sweet and sour chicken was just about ok, don’t get me wrong I got loads of chicken, the chicken curry was probably the worst curry in the entire world, bland watered down tasteless some kinda sauce , but never curry, , the rice was bland to , only went here because after looking up the best one to go to ( the Rainbow) it was closed , so we seen this one open and said we would try it , should have read the reviews first or went to the chippey , the young lad taking the order nice and quiet, the older man ( delivery driver) was a really nice man , well seeing he wasn’t rushed of his feet , but we didn’t know as we were on holiday, but don’t go

Ordered Salt and pepper chips and Special Chow Mein at 5pm. Chips were awful, they tasted like lunch time leftovers. Flat, dry and a few bits of onion and carrots slithers mixed in. Chow Mein was ok but not much flavour. They only take cash!!

Ordered a takeout come to £36 2 special fried rice, 1 sweet sour chicken 1 plain noodles, an a crab soup, daughter took her special fried rice upstairs, me an him left ours until we had few drinks, eventually we went into kichen open our food only to notice mouse droppings in noodles I said to him look at that he couldn’t eat his food, shouted up to kid don’t eat any more of that food, trying to phone them to complain but wasn’t open after 10pm, I will personally phone them, tomorrow, I need to state I put the chicken down for the dog, an my boy refused it! That’s says something!! Never eat there again, mouse droppings wtf!!!!

I've been a resident of Ulverston for over 2 decades, and when The Lotus first opened I became a regular because it presented more restaurant style versions of the typical takeaway, very fresh and not too heavy. But in recent times I'm not sure what's going on, maybe because of lack of custom due to lock down they've decided to rely on certain elements being cooked from frozen. Sweet and sour pork is one of my favourite dishes, and some time last year I ordered this to extreme disappointment when the deep fried battered pork was extremely overcooked, hard as bullets with the insides so dry it was like saw dust. It certainly put me off returning to this establishment for quite a while. Then the other day I thought I'd give them another chance, as perhaps they just may have had a bad day last time, but the same thing happened again, rock hard bullets with saw dust inside! The rest of the dish was OK, the stir fried veg element being quite fresh and the sauce really tasty, but unfortunately when the main part of the dish is inedible it kind of ruins the whole thing.

After recently moving to ulverston I have been trying various take aways. The lotus staff were friendly and the food was made to high standards. Will definitely be coming back to try something new !

We use the Lotus for a take away about once a month … never been disappointed… The order is always right and freshly cooked - and they have always been spot on with the time given

Durante las vacaciones, vinimos aquí para llevar algo para llevar después de un día de caminata. Pedimos pollo frijol negro y pollo chow mein con rollitos de primavera. Todo fue cocinado de manera rápida y eficiente y muy caliente con galletas de gambas de cortesía. Buena comida de calidad. Recomendaría. Sin embargo, solo en efectivo, ¡así que ten cuidado!

Takeaway - excellent quality, very tasty. We had soup starter, prawn crackers, chicken Szechuan and chicken curry rice and chips. Slightly heavy on the veg in dishes (carrots) but would highly recommend and next time I’m in Ulverston, I’ll book in the restaurant.

booked for 14 of us, and were more than welcome. Orders taken swiftly, and food was served super quick. It was all piping hot and delicious! The waiters couldn't do enough for us and even split the bill so there was no stressing when we came to pay.

El día que estuvimos allí solo aceptamos efectivo. No estoy seguro de si esto es algo permanente, así que si vas, asegúrate de tener algo de efectivo a mano.

Visited here on an over night stay in Ulverston.The restaurant was recommended by a bar staff member in a pub we had visited in the afternoon.The place could do with a good make over.Looks very tired but the food was lovely.We had spring rolls,prawn toast, salt and pepper beef,salt and pepper chicken as starters.These were very large portions and could be a main really.Chicken curry, shrimp chow mein,chilli beef and beef with cashew nuts with rices and noodles for our main courses.All these dishes were really nice and for the 4 of us the price was very reasonable.The service was great and our waitress was very chatty.Overall lovely food but the decor let's the restaurant down.Worth a visit though.

We had an excellent Chinese takeaway on our walk back to the train station on our Ulverston day out. Nice friendly staff, good wide range of food choices. Food was cooked quickly and it tasted great.

Cenamos aquí el domingo por la noche. Parece un poco descuidado pero la comida no estaba mal. El entrante llegó después del plato principal, no ideal pero tolerable. La comida estaba bastante bien. Las placas estaban frías, lo que hace que la comida se enfríe rápidamente.Sólo pagos en efectivo. Risiculosos estos días.Si la cerveza se sirve de una lata en un vaso de cerveza, al menos venda latas de cerveza.

Después de haber sido decepcionados por su propia culpa en otro restaurante, llegamos tarde a las 8. 30 pm para que nos dijeran que tenían sitio para nosotros. Después de sentarnos en un tazón de galletas de gambas, pedimos nuestras bebidas y comida. Las bebidas llegaron rápidamente con una señora que colocó calentadores en las mesas y no llegó ni a 10 minutos la hermosa comida. Estaba caliente y sabrosa y muy buenas raciones. Los precios de comida y bebida son muy razonables para un restaurante. Fue una visita agradable y relajada y el ambiente es cálido y servicial y un personal amable y encantador. Pueden adaptarse a cualquier alergia a los alimentos a petición. Bien vale la pena una visita

Es el único chino que he encontrado en la zona que satisface mi dieta sin gluten, un personal encantador y muy amable y servicial, por lo que si tiene un problema con la dieta, vaya y converse, estoy muy satisfecho. Ahora puedo obtener mi Arreglo semanal, gracias a estos chicos.

No entiendo las malas críticas aquí, solo he tenido buenas experiencias en The Lotus. Vine aquí una vez más para una comida la semana pasada y lo pasamos muy bien. La camarera era muy amable y la comida era deliciosa. Entramos regularmente para llevar, y siempre tenemos buena comida y el propietario siempre es realmente encantador con nosotros. Volveremos pronto!

Fuimos aquí con la familia con la esperanza de conseguir una comida, deseando que nunca nos hubiéramos molestado. Esperamos 45 minutos a que llegara la comida, algunos miembros de nuestro grupo habían pedido entrantes, nuestros principales salieron primero, les preguntaron acerca de los entrantes para que se los dijeran abruptamente, todavía no estaban listos. Mi esposo y yo habíamos pedido especial Chow Mein, estaba en platos fríos, la comida estaba fría, piedra fría, esperamos que la camarera volviera, ella dijo que lo calentaría, no creo que el servicio fuera terrible, nos negamos Para pagar nuestra comida, pagamos nuestras bebidas y nos fuimos. No recomendaría este lugar a nadie.

We popped in for a takeaway with a friend who is a vegan, we should of walked out when our friend asked what green veg they had and the answer was carrots and broccoli! After about 10 mins we managed to order and spend £30, we asked how long it would be, the answer,” no idea maybe 30-40 minutes “ we went for a drink, returned in 30 mins, got home and the food was cold, greasy and tasteless , we obviously won’t return, oh and the carrots weren’t green, just cold and hard.

Enjoy the food here, great selection of Chinese food, well worth a visit. Always have the bean curd but my other half alters and he always enjoys what he orders.

We telephone ordered a takeaway and it was ready to be picked up in a very short amount of time! The portions are generous and came with free prawn crackers and fortune cookies. I would highly recommend salt and pepper chips and chicken wings.

Chose the Lotus last minute and we weren’t disappointed. Great portions, great choice and lovely staff. Young lad who served us was really friendly. Chicken and sweet corn soup was the best we’ve had! Lacked a bit of atmosphere.

Visited when quiet, so the young man serving had plenty of time, but I got the feeling he would always be attentive and friendly. The portions were good plenty of complimentary prawn crackers. The mixed starter was fine and the mains good. It wasn't exceptional but was perfectly nice, as there was only one couple about to leave the ambiance was a bit flat.

Delicious options for veggies and vegans. The salt and pepper Tofu is great! The food is very good but the ambience of the restaurant let's it down...the lights are so bright! It's not very cosy or romantic. I would suggest lower lights and candles on the table. It would make a big difference!

Comimos fuera del menú happy hour, buena relación calidad-precio en 14 libras para la sopa, pan de gambas, un plato de entrantes mixtas, y luego un plato principal con arroz. 2 de nuestro grupo pidió para diferentes platos principales de los mencionados: no hay problema! El primer plato de pollo con sal y pimienta era especialmente bueno. Nos pareció que la comida era de muy buena calidad, tal vez no sea la mejor que he comido nunca, pero increíblemente bueno para el precio y una camarera amable y eficiente. Recomiendo encarecidamente, no entiendo por qué no es mejor clasificados.

Al llegar me pareció que había entrado en un club de la juventud. Eran un grupo de chicas adolescentes, un grupo de amigos dentro de docena con la chica detrás del mostrador sólo podría asumir. La chica detrás del mostrador tenía para comprobar si estaban abriendo el lado restaurante del edificio, un sábado por la noche, lo que me pareció extraño, pero afortunadamente fueron. El edificio y la decoración era preciosa, pero le faltaba el toque oriental, la música que el mismo gráfico hits y canciones en repetir. Hacía bastante frío en su interior. Todo lo dicho, la comida y el servicio fueron excelentes, nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos una vez sentado. Estaba muy bien de precio y un ambiente relajado.

Had the happy hour banquet for £14 per person & we were pleased with how much food you got for the money. It was also hot & tasted good. Customer service could be improved but otherwise a great restaurant & would recommend

Up at the lakes fancied a Chinese, called in on the off chance and the food was fast and full of flavours. Well worth a visit.

Comida normal no te molestará de nuevo. No sé si me debería de una vez convertido, y salimos yo diría entramos. La decoración y el olor a humedad me quitó. La comida era promedio y gambas en especial arroz frito estaban frías.

We dropped in on the spur of the moment early evening and were made very welcome. As we were the only other customers we were allowed to take our small dog in with us. The food was excellent really tasty, hot and nicely presented. The staff were really nice and most helpful. It doesn't look great from the outside but it is nice inside. We would definitely call again if we were ever in the area.

Easy to phone take away order. We were staying in cottage nearby and ordered twice in week. Good quality Sweet and Sour and Thai food. Prices also good. Quantities such that I had left overs for breakfast!!

Ate in on Friday night...we usually get our takeaways here and they are always very good and the service is FAST.Eating in was good...the food was all very tasty and the service is friendly and efficient. The restaurant lacks atmosphere and is always cold and there could be better choices on the wine list but we think the food is the best in Ulverston.

We used to use this takeaway every week but haven't been for a while. Spare ribs were just deep fried gristle ,spring roll was flabby and curry was bland. Nice friendly staff but the food has deteriorated since our last visit. Typical Ulverston business ,lack of competition leads to complacency. very poor ,we won't hurry back.

Went here once as we were in Ulverston and looking for dinner somewhere. There were four of us and we all had a really delicious meal, unfortunately the decor and bright lighting just makes you feel you want to 'eat and get out', it's not very relaxing. I wouldn't consider going here for an evening out or special occasion which is a shame as it just feels that if they put a little work into the appearance it would be a brilliant place.

So, as some of you may know by now, Chinese is my favourite food by far. Because of that my reviews of Chinese food may be slightly more critical than of other types. I had a szechuan special mix which was very bland. It really was more of a mildy seasoned gravy than anything that I could recognise as being a Szechuan sauce. No heat, no spice, no body. Also, the mixed meats weren't deep fried / battered as requested. The egg fried rice was poor too, just tasted like boiled rice with very little egg and certainly didn't seem to have been fried. I got a starter of salt and pepper beef, which is the reason the rating isn't lower. It was one of the nicest salt and pepper dishes I have tried. that on it's own would get a solid 4+/5My partner had tofu in garlic ginger sauce, and noodles. She thought they were both good, but again i think tey were on the bland side. Not terrible by any means but a little more flavour would make all the difference.

The Lotus has been slowly and quietly building a very good reputation over the years.It is one of only 2 chinese restaurants in Ulverston, and it is by far the best value.It often appears quiet, but it also is exceptionally busy as a takeaway.The decor isn't great at all, and the building is quite old so these can be seen negatively when viewing from outside.That all said - the food is great !! We have never had anything but high quality food served to us. The wine list is really good value and they have some nice wines to choose from.The only slightly dodgy item on the menu is their version of salt and pepper chips - but you shouldn't to to a chinese if you want chips.Definitely worth trying for eat in and takeaway

We (4 adults) had the special banquet at £20 a head. Tasty food, quickly and pleasantly served. Well worth a visit.

I have sat in and taken out here and the food is always amazing! The staff are very helpful and polite. Please try the salt and pepper chips! I cant explain how amazing they are! big portions too!

We travelled 8 miles to Ulverston for this takeaway to take back to our holiday cottage.We loved to food very much and was still nice and hot after the journey. Recommended.

This is a takeaway and restaurant, a lot of people had commented on the decor of the place, and not how good the food was. We had a delicious meal here. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

We had a take away from here and we're not overly.impressed with either the food nor the establishment. Felt very dated inside.Probably won't be going back unless the other Chineses in Ulverston are closed.

Came here as a party of 10 for my sister's birthday and for big parties you can actually order a buffet so we did and it was great! It's cheap for the amount you get and the service was good and quick. We regularly come here in big groups and we love it. We didn't finish the buffet off but they let us take some home with us as well which was really nice of them. Would definitely recommend!

This was our first visit but im sorry we won't be back. Really needs a face lift with the decor, food and the wine.

Happened to be in Ulverston with parents and after walking around the town centre for a while looking for somewhere suitable to eat we decided on the lotus as all the pubs looked a bit 'noisy'. I'm so glad we did. An attentive waitress seated us right away and was quick to bring drinks and a bowl of complimentary prawn crackers. Once we had ordered food the waitress came back with two food warmers for our table on which the main courses were placed, this was a great touch. We didn't order starters and the mains took about 10-15 mins maybe to arrive together. Having the mains and sides plated individually and having your own clean dinner plate means we could all share each other's food. Between us we ordered chicken chow mien, crispy chicken with sweet and sour sauce and chicken with water chestnuts and bamboo shoots plus chips and fried rice. The food was really good, everything was fresh and they were large portions. mum raved about the perfect fluffy fried rice, her chicken with water chestnuts which I had to try were amazing, we all had chicken dishes and the chicken was so tender, dad's crispy chicken actually had crispy batter rather than the soggy inedible batter we've ended up with elsewhere. My chicken chow mein didn't need chips with it it was a big plateful of food on it's ownit also didn't need any additional seasoning/ soy sauce which would have made it way too salty. Overall the meal was great and came to around £32 for the three of us. They do also have a great set menu for £14 per head with quite a few choices for the main meal. This is also a takeaway with a waiting / pick up area between the front entrance and the bar away from the dining tables. There was a constant stream of people picking up food. there were also 4 other diners in the resteraunt whilst we were there and they all seemed to be really enjoying the food also. The only downside of the resteraunt was the decor. The split colour brown and cream walls leave a lot to be desired and the chairs at our table all had badly stained seat cushions. If they gave the place a bit of a makeover to make it look more warm and inviting and played some appropriate background music It would probably increase trade on their eat in side of the business.

we visited this restaurant as due to Halloween all the other restaurants were booked. We were very pleased that this happened.They were very welcoming and helpful.The special Happy hours menu at £14 per person was great value for money and very tasty. Would visit again when in area.

Called in without reservation which was not a problem. Service was very good and the staff were really friendly. Food was good and was quick to arrive and was reasonably priced. The restaurant was nice and clean. Would certainly visit The Lotus again if in the area

Slightly disappointing food and service. The food was quite slow on arriving and was pretty bland and the service was very poor and a bit slap dash! Wouldn't come here again even if they were just having an 'off' night

Excellent service ,food and ambience, in the town centre so close to all amenities. CALLED IN WITH NO RESERVATION BUT THIS WAS NO PROBLEM-nuff said!

Always a good feed, good quality food & prices are reasonable. Also the staff are very courteous, friendly & the place is very clean.
