The Lord Nelson, Burnham Thorpe in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

Mark the manager made my night. Honestly the best waiter I’ve ever had. He was funny, charismatic and polite, ensuring that we had everything we could need for the dinner. The food was brilliant, especially the fish and chips which were delicious. Mark even sang for us and was extremely entertaining. The atmosphere was amazing and the service was too. Mark is a beer specialist, he sold us on of his best beers in which we indulged in thoroughly. EVERYTHING was perfect and it was probably one of the best dinner experiences ever. Thanks to mark and his whole team for making our evening and making us feel at home.

Will return, manageress was very sociable.

Stayed in Burnham Thorpe last week, not the first time. Staff and local customers so very friendly. Food and drink brilliant, cracking place to go after a good walk. Looking forward to our next visit.

Visited on pizza night and the quality of food was excellent. Everyone that served us was polite and friendly. The experience was lovely and we'd definitely visit again. Visited again...the food was still great but some of the service was VERY weird. Wasn't really looking for a singing waiter and made the whole experience feel a little uncomfortable. Same experience for every table and I'm sure some people love it but maybe read the room and tailor your behaviour to suit. The rest of the waiting staff were fine though.

Lovely , cosy pub with an open fire in one room and a wood burner in the other. Good service from polite staff and just a nice place to go for either a quiet drink or a meal from their extensive menu.

We’ve used this pub for past 3 years when we regularly visit Whitehall campsite and have always enjoyed food and experience but the last two visits have seen a change in staff and menu, food was a disappointment and overpriced !…. Will just use for a drink in future if nothing changes .

Very quiet, we thought it was closed at first. It was only when we sat down we realised how expensive it was which probably explained why so few people were there at lunchtime on a beautiful sunny day. We ate on the patio as they won't serve food in the garden, which is right next to the patio..... 🤷 We just had a starter, tomato and mozzarella salad , very small and not worth £9.

I'm very disappointed, really. Came here 2 years ago for Sunday lunch, and it was lovely. Visited on a Saturday night with guests and was really let down and disappointed. Very small and basic menu. Cold bread. No butter. Fish chowder had minimum fish and half a new potato in it. It's just bland overall and poorly presented, nothing like some of the pictures shown. I'm not sure if the chef was off or what and hugely overpriced for what we had. The place lacked atmosphere and only had a few tables taken, and it's so sad to see a place go so downhill. Unfortunately, we won't be going back again.

We had dinner here for my mother-in-law's 80th birthday. We were brilliantly looked after (and entertained) by the staff. The food was excellent, both the beef casserole and the fish and chips and both were very generous portions. We'll be visiting again soon.

What was once a great pub has had the heart and soul removed. Just another production line pub selling OK beer and very boring food. No imagination in the menu at all. Pie and chips, burger and chips, steak and chips etc etc. this in an area where most other pubs put effort into their menus. Shame

Attitude from bar staff, clearly no training in hospitality. Visited on a Saturday at 3pm after advertised food served from 12pm to 10pm and was bluntly told kitchen was closed.

The Woodfords ale was great. Nice little outdoor space. This place has been changed radically! My grandfather was landlord here from early 40s into the 50s. It was listed and preserved as it was in Nelson's day. It does feel to have lost a little of that historical feel but it's been reinvigorated for the current age which can only be good.

Lovely place. Food lovely. Highly recommend leek and potato soup. Very good portions. Soup and dessert made a satisfying meal.

Love the Lord Nelson pub. Also visited the mini museum in the car park. Always a joy to visit.

Super dog friendly restaurant with a large beer garden. We sat outside and the dogs had a doggie roast dinner each and were given lots of fuss. Colouring crayons and page given for 2yo too which is always a lovely touch. Very friendly staff. 2 small things would be there was no check back on the food (everything was fine though!) and the dog roast dinners aren’t on the canine menu it just so happened another staff member mentioned them when I was placing an order. Overall definitely recommend a visit for a great Sunday lunch!

Came here for a Sunday Roast and certainly an improvement from the last couple of visits. The Roast was at a good standard and the wine was nice too. Service was 5star.

Delicious food in a gorgeous setting. We went for the Burger night and the food was amazing, staff were so polite and helpful! Will definitely be returning!

Avoid This Restaurant - Unacceptable Service and Inedible Food I recently dined at The Lord Nelson in King's Lynn, and it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. What was meant to be a pleasant family meal turned into a frustrating ordeal that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. We arrived for our meal with high expectations, but things quickly went downhill. After receiving our starters at 6:30 PM, we were left waiting endlessly for our main courses. By 7:45 PM, there was still no sign of our meals. We had specifically requested that my niece’s dinner be served with the starters, as it was past her dinner time, but this request was blatantly ignored. After asking again, her meal finally arrived at 7:50 PM, more than an hour after we first sat down. At this point, we were desperate for some kind of resolution and asked the waiter for an update on our main courses. His response was simply, “let me just check,” a phrase we had already heard several times without any real action. The lack of communication and urgency was shocking. To make matters worse, when my sister-in-law started cutting up my niece’s fish fingers, she discovered they were frozen solid on the inside. This is beyond unacceptable. It doesn’t take a qualified chef to properly cook something as basic as fish fingers, and the fact that this was overlooked is astonishing. Despite the manager offering apologies, none of the chefs were willing to take responsibility for serving undercooked food to a child. In summary, this restaurant is to be avoided at all costs. The service was atrocious, and the food was not only delayed but also inedible and put my 2 year old niece at risk of a serious illness. It's clear that the staff are not equipped to handle even the most basic requests. We left the restaurant incredibly disappointed, and we will certainly not be returning. I will be reporting this incident to the environmental health team at the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and the Food Standards Agency to ensure the restaurant is held accountable and that such incidents don’t occur in the future.

Stumbled across this brilliant place, stopped for lunch, staff extremely welcoming, dogs catered for as well. We decided to share fours starters and a side of chips, everything was superb, portions very generous. Bill was very reasonable, will definitely return

We visited The Lord Nelson yesterday as a part of 6 + dog, and all thoroughly enjoyed the food. "Potentially the best ham hock terrine" my MIL has ever had, and plenty of treats and attention for the dog, but best of all for me was the care and attention given to the allergies and intolerances in our party. I felt in safe hands, and checking the ingredients with the chef was never too much trouble for our friendly and lovely server. Thank you for a lovely evening!

Excellent Sunday Roast Beef. Plenty of parking. Lots of nicely decorated rooms inside for eating. Perhaps a fraction over attentive (5+) regarding asking us how the meal was.

We eaten here on a number of occasions recently, the food is always good, the Sunday lunch is very good and the vegetarian option really excellent, home made and lots of taste and texture. Kerry always greets us with a warm welcome and big smiles. All round a really nice experience.

Absolutely love this pub/restaurant. Came here for a family dinner with the dog and it was the best food we’ve had in the area so far. Fairly reasonably priced, would definitely recommend!

What a find this place was! Due to it's location we assumed it would be quiet but we were very wrong. It was extremely busy! We were informed that there would be a wait for food when we got there but we were happy to wait. I'm glad we did! Food was beautiful, staff were so friendly and were particularly great with the children and dog we had with us. They gave the children a variety of board games to play to alleviate the boredom of waiting and gave my dog biscuits and water. If I'm ever on holiday in Norfolk again this will definitely be a place we visit again.

Last here 10 years ago when the pub was historic but small with good beer and food. It has had an amazing make over. Very well done, the historic features remain with new restaurant areas. And a lovely outdoor space. Food and drink still great. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely phenomenal pub! The dinner was delicious and the service made us (and our dog) very welcome. Beer is lovely too. There is also a small museum on naval hero Nelson and Trafalgar. Well worth the visit!

Just went for drink great atmosphere

Our go to for Sunday lunch on the North Norfolk Coast. Excellent food in a great environment with good beer. Huge beer garden for the summer.

The food was lovely, and the service to begin with was good but then we started to feel ignored. Our drinks orders were forgotten, and then our plates and glasses were taken away without a word or any eye contact, we were ignored for 40 minutes and couldn't seem to get anyone's attention while they tended to tables around us. We decided to skip dessert in the end, and then I went to the toilet to find no toilet paper. I understand it was a busy day as it was Easter Sunday, and hope this was just an off day, it just wasn't a welcoming experience.

When we went half of the menu was off, was really looking forward to going as it was my mother's birthday. Staff did try to make the experience better, so can't complain about them. But the food even though was edible it wasn't anything spectacular considering the lack of stuff missing from there menu. I will give another try as they stated that a change over of staff in the kitchen was the reason behind this. Fingers crossed we will get a better experience next time

We ate quite early so the restaurant and pub were very quiet which accounts for my atmosphere score. The food was very good in particular the game pie. The waiting staff were very attentive an friendly, just what you want in a family pup restaurant, We had an autistic 15 year old with us with whom the staff were excellent.

I hadn't been here for years & years and thought it would be a great place to stop-off after a drive up to the coast and see if I could buy one of their famous bottles of 'Nelsons Blood' (spiced rum). After dumping the car in the large car park(s) we wandered in to be greeted warmly and asked for a table for lunch. After a cheeky non-alcohol drink (they have loads of varieties for the non-drinker) the lady came over to ask up what we would like. We were umming & arrring until she said, "What about or special ham, egg & chips?". We looked at each other and turned back and both said "Sold!". That meal was epic. Look at that ham!!! How they cut the chips like that i'll never know. Great staff, great food, unpretentious and five stars from us. Thank you! (No joy on the rum front as they were out of one of the ingredients due to 'national shortage'. Never mind...)

Always a warm welcome. The food is of a very high standard and they go out of their way to accommodate my son’s allergies. Highly recommend.

A little disappointed. A couple of dishes were not great . Some staff not particularly friendly. Pricey for what it was .

Just returned from a Norfolk Restaurant Week lunch at the Lord Nelson. Cannot praise it enough - fantsatic value, menu was varied, the food was excellent and the portions good - Bao bun with Mongoian lamb and red snapper scampi for starters, we both went for the beef as the main, banana loaf and chocolate torte for desert. Nice atmosphere in the barn extension and good service. They keep their beers well also. If you can get booked before 10th November then go!

Excellent Sunday roast. Great venue, staff and service

The staff were really great. They were short staffed that lunchtime but explained clearly they would be a bit slower and were we happy to take a bit longer. In the end it was only slightly longer and really not a problem. I am a great fan of honesty up front, under promise and over deliver! They certainly over delivered and we will definitely be returning.

The pub is welcoming and dog friendly. We popped in for an evening drink but would definitely return. Our dog was very spoilt with lots of treats. He rates it very highly:)

Staff were unfriendly but nice food. We felt a little forgotten about as after half an hour our drinks had still not arrived and my mum had to go to the bar and carry the tray over herself. Also had a long wait for server to come and take our order - and when they did come over they stood in silence which we felt was a little rude. The food was nice though.

Lovely lunch, good variety of options on the menu and so dog friendly too! We really enjoyed being able to have plenty of space to eat and walk around with the dogs outside and all the staff were really friendly

We had a wonderful meal here - welcome was warm, service was friendly and the food although on the higher end for pub food, was really delicious. We tried the buttermilk chicken burger and the pie - both excellent - and the lemon posset for dessert was wonderful. Dogs are made very welcome, ours certainly loved the treat station. We really enjoyed the museum to the rear of the pub - super interesting. Would definitely visit again if we were in the area.

Wonderful pub with fantastic food. We booked a couple of days in advance for a table of 13. I was amazed they managed to accommodate and was so glad they did. The food was terrific. I had the plaice with a side of samphire fritters which was delicious, but everything else looked lovely too. Service was good too and very welcoming. Would highly recommend!

Definitely not a place for just a drink: it appears to have become a restaurant with a pub bolted on.Shame, as the old Lord Nelson managed both but then it did cease to trade.I'm sure the meals are fine, but don't expect a traditional pub welcome: we were found a table in between bookings...and nobody said goodbye ( even though we cleared the glasses for them)

Great Staff, Food and Beer in historic setting.

Superb meal with excellent service from all who we engaged with. The pie was excellent and my wife really enjoyed the burger. The table we had, to the front of the pub was a little dark & gloomy, but that could have been how we selected our on- line booking. Highly recommended and a lovely setting.

A nice looking pub in a lovely village - Nelson's birthplace. We only had coffee - tried to stop by another day for a meal but it was chock-full of naval types. Would definitely like to eat there.

Great staff, good beer, awesome history

Nice service. Staff made us very welcome. Lovely big beer garden in a nice location, but quite pricey and reckon they could do with some more staff. Took quite a while to get served. We would happily have had desert but it took a long while to order/get served, so am afraid we ran out of time. On plus side they do a dog roast ( not on the menu we saw), went down a treat!
