The Library Pub in Oxford

Wow, what a place! My first time last month with a friend and sat in the upstairs snug, looking out to the high street. Wonderful cocktails and amazing service! Can’t wait to visit again in a few weeks

The service was very friendly & super helpful by giving me some tasters. Tap bier choices were limted, but vast for the size of the place. For older Oxford locals/studes, it used to be ; 'The Rat Hole'. It has a great decor, shame the books are wallpaper. 'The Library' in LA has real books & Chesterfields, so if you ever find yourself in that neck of the woods, it is def worth the visit. The atmosphere lost some points for the loud, pretentious braggarts. Nobody gives a bag of dix about your friend, ( unfortunately named) "Harry", who's name she exclaimed 40 x in one story, until I side glanced a look. No other friend was named so often, don't play!!! Then there was the high pitched squeals of two other chicks whom felt the need to talk ad nauseum about their courses. Again, no one gives a bag of dix, It's Oxford!!!!! The staff are awesome sauce. Loved the music too. Just enough to be cool, but allow convo . Def give it a whirl. I wish I could take this little gem back to the states with me. XXX

First time here for us, at least in its incarnation as the Library...we're East Oxford born and bred, so old enough to know it as the Rat Hole! Anyway, we had a great night...wine is great and reasonably priced, staff are friendly, atmosphere is relaxed. Never had food, so can't comment on that. May play the Dice Game next time when we order some...

Just want to shout out the bartender Jacob! Best service and he remembered my drink order which is 10/10! Best pub and best pizza too !

A freindly bar with a great atmosphere.

Pretty decent pub this. Great food, great beer selection & reasonable prices. Felt friendly enough. Staff were fine. Bit of a nasty 'toilety' smell throughout the rear section though (bogs in need of cleaning/unblocking?). Need to keep that under control, otherwise a very decent venue.

Great pub, fantastic pizzas, nice vibes & a lovely variety of alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks. Sometimes there's a gig on downstairs as well. Top tier pub, one of my favourite places along Cowley road.

Should mark it down, as we've run out of luck at the dice game...

Bustling pub. Excellent selection of ales. Homemade, wood fired pizzas. Staff are fun and attentive. Live music downstairs!

Friendly, relaxed pub with a heated back garden and lots of small and micro brewery beers on tap. Snacks and food available, with regular pizza offers. Good and varied guest beer menu. The pub's small but lovely basement venue books anything from small local bands to surprisingly large acts for astonishing, intimate gigs. Popular with gig goers, musicians and bands as well as fans of beer, pizzas and hanging out. This chilled venue is definitely on the must-visit list for Oxford's famous Cowley Road.

Beautiful pub in Oxford where you can drink beer, in the meantime you can also play a game of cards, very comfortable

Nduja and aubergine pizza slapped. Garlic mayo was like? Mindblowing? Why? I don’t know.

NB they only do pizza for food but when their pizzas are that good (handmade bases and great toppings) then you don't need anything else at one of Oxford's best gig venues

Nice pub with some good beers on but was very empty and atmosphere less on a Saturday afternoon which is a shame

Lovely place, great vibes. Music in the basement was something else. The Eastern European sounding dude last Saturday really raised the roof.

Nice place, decent drink selection, reasonable price for the area and good area to sit out back. Open later in the night than many other bars and pubs locally.

Absolutely great pub! Great drinks & prices. I'd particularly recommend Marg Mondays - incredible pizza for just £5 as well as £5 margarita cocktails. Ridiculously cheap for the quality :)

Nice little local with a good variety of all sorts of drinks... and food. Great DJs downstairs depending on the night, but worth a visit.

Your ol’ regular pub, but a bit more decent because of the ambiance. Had pizza and a pint. A nice and really TIDY beer garden/smokers corner out back. It’s cozy out back that you might actually be able to strike up a conversation with a random person. (Lost all decent pictures I had, sadly.)

LGBTQ friendly .. a nice cozy little pub, with very friendly staffs. I look forward to come back again

Great staff. Not the best place to go if you only drink cider. They usually only have 1 cider on tap. It would be great if there were more options

Really enjoyed it here. It was a bit quieter at the time we were there which made a blessed to the streets in Oxford on a Saturday. Will look forward to a return visit.

What a great place , went in after a band at the academy and had a good couple of hours . We all in our 50s and were made welcome and had a great laugh with the staff Good prices and brilliant beers

Great place with a nice atmosphere and a wide selection of beers to choose from. Local brewery options also available and are very tasty. You should give it a try. The staff very assistive and the prices very reasonable.

100% they must have a new chef because the pizza had stepped up to the NEXT level! The new veggie pizza is delicious proper value for money. Top 5 pizza in Oxford now for sure!

Great place to eat and drink. (Not much choice in food but great drink choices) Drinks on the middle range of prices. Lovely outside area to sit and drink. Nice atmosphere. Server Connie was lovely and incredibly attentive. Server Anna was a bit more brazen and did not create as much of a welcoming environment. Still a nice place nonetheless. Outside seating has heating. Would reccomend

Spent a brilliant couple of hours in their ace garden in the early evening, really impressed with how they handled the covid situation with excellent distancing and table service! Great bunch of guys, spend your money here 😉

One of the best pubs on Cowley road - has a great atmosphere and a broad range of drinks. Even in lockdown: the backyard is open and they serve pizza. A hidden gem!

Fabulous place, been going for 5 years now and still love it. Good beer selection (try the Camden Hell's) and much bigger than it looks with a lovely little beer garden in the back. Would recommend as the place to go on Cowley Road.

Ir a ver a Fontaines DC apareció, junto con el resto del O 2 por una pinta. Tenía una gran cerveza negra Camden Ink. Encantador fue. Bien vale la pena una visita.

Probably the second best pub in Oxford. Live music, fresh food, good vibes.

I love going to the library, but not for the books haha! Great place with a jazzy atmosphere. Food is great with plenty of vegan options, you won’t be disappointed!

Really cool pub, food is good and it's served hot. They have basement with gigs and some good old punk, hardcore music. They even have a game at bar if you get the dices 1-1,3-3 or 5-5 ⚄ the drinks are for free. They even have a garden in back. Definitely would recommend it! 🤓 🤓

The Library is just a stone's throw away from the O2 Academy. It doesn't look much from the outside - a Victorian terraced house up a few steps with some basic signs. But inside it's as good a pub as I've been in for ages. There's an excellent choice of beers and lagers, knowledgeable and friendly bar staff and good well-priced food too. The beer garden at the back is a great place to whole away some time and inside the decor and vibe is nicely bohemian. There are lots of beards and tattoos but this is the sort of place to give hipster pubs a good name. Highly recommended.

No toilet roll in the tiny gents' loo (looks like it hadn't been checked all day). Comedy hand dryer at head height. £5+ a pint - not sure if that's typical for Oxford (Brewdog down the road similar but they're always pricey) Seems chilled out place though, very quiet early Sat evening

Hot summers day waiting for the O2 to open and this is brilliant little distraction. And you never know ...your beer might just be free if you roll the dice.

Great pub. Small at the front, but goes back a long way to a nice courtyard at the rear. Loads of quality beers on draft. Decent gins too. They do food as well. Really welcoming team too.

Posto caratteristico con spazio esterno gramde e molto limitato internamente. Il bar e` molto e i barman, almeno le sere in cui so andato, quasi ti facevano un piacere a durti che tipo di vino e birre avevano.

I used to love this place when it was the Brickworks, but it has definitely gone downhill. We were out the back when suddenly one of the locals lit a fire. To the bar staffs credit they did ask the moron to leave, but it didn’t make for a good atmosphere and our evening was ruined.

What a wonderful, relaxed and cool vibe these guys provide, they really do pull out all the stops to make you feel at home. From the quirky dice game for free beer (although those dice did seem an odd shape and weighted) and the novel idea of providing firewood in the garden for the punters for those brisk afternoons. Keep up the good work guys

Nice relaxed environment. My mate wanted to come here. I prefer a more lively bar, like others on cowley road, however this one will do the trick.

Great pre-drink before heading to a gig

Two of us arrived at the bar just pre 9pm. There were not many customers there. We immediately picked up menus and mentally selected our choices, whilst the lady behind the bar finished serving others there and taking payment from them. We ordered our drinks and whilst they were being poured asked if we could also order food. We were politely told food orders ceased at 9pm, it was about 9.03pm by now. It would have been easy to accept this had the place been teeming with customers, but it definitely wasn't. We settled for crisps!

I love the library, another quality establishment on the ever creative and entertaining Cowley Road! We stopped off in here during their Beavertown takeover event, but have been lots of times before to enjoy their food. Staff are always friendly, and we very much enjoy the early bird offer to roll and dice and maybe win your drink for free, plus always free maoam on the bar!

Great little pub. Such friendly staff and a decent selection of beers. Loved the touch at the bar where you get a free round if you roll a double 5, I think it was! Nice atmosphere, will be back.
