The Learney Arms Indian Restaurant in Aberdeenshire

Order was short despite being checked not discovered till I got home home. It was too late to go back to the restaurant and the rest of the food would spoil

Don't go here. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala. What they served was a weird magenta colored soup, very sweet, with chicken chunks in it. Not sure what it was except awful. Also, we ordered a couple of prosecco cocktails which were warm. Eat a ready made sandwich from the grocer.

First class Indian restaurant We had heard good reports of the food at Learney Arms and I just wish that we had tried it before now because we certainly were not disappointed. The entire meal was delicious! This was our first visit but it certainly won’t be our last 😋

Just returned from a visit to the Learney in Torphins … such an enjoyable meal. I really enjoy different tastes and flavours so I requested two vegetarian side dishes instead of a main course, and I’m so pleased with my choices. We had two poppadums apiece with the usual dips and sauces and they were lovely. My husband likes dishes tasty but not too spicy, with some sweet and sour flavours. He tried a new one this time … chicken with a Bengal mint masala … with lemon cashew rice and he was a very happy bunny indeed and polished off the lot! I had a wee forkful to try it and I’d happily have that myself another time. I had saag paneer and cauliflower bhaji as side dishes instead of a main as I said, with mushroom pilau rice. It was absolutely outstanding … you could tell that the vegetables were freshly prepared and cooked - perfectly al dente and you could taste each vegetable in the dish individually … for a vegetable lover, just so tasty! The saag paneer was really delicious too … I’ve had it previously at this restaurant and it lived up to expectations and more. The rice was really nicely cooked too with chunks of freshly sautéed mushrooms. We shared a plain naan and hubby had a coffee to finish. Home now to finish off the weekend with a film and a glass of wine … perfection!!! We’ll most definitely be returning!

The hotel where we were staying in Lumphanan recommended this place when we arrived fairly late one evening. We drive the 6 minutes to this pub/restaurant. Excellent curry. Do go.

Have visited here before and the food does not disappoint. Excellent curry with all the trimmings and the staff are very good and attentive. Food is amazing! Great selection of choices in the menu, the portion sizes are just right and didn’t take long to serve. Staff are really nice and friendly and I was also given a 10% discount at the end and I will definitely be going back 😋

Ordered from here on a Friday evening as we’ve done a few times before with no issues and had the set meal for one with chicken tikka masala (which to be fair was very stingy on the meat front, just mainly sauce. We counted only 5 pieces chicken) and a lamb tikka biriyani. The latter was the only thing that was shared amongst us and within the past 48 hours prior. We all ended up horribly unwell from the wee small hours onwards throughout the whole weekend. Contacted the restaurant upon opening the next day, who were abrupt and offered no real apology and then asked me what I expected them to do?! They stated that they have never received any other complaint against their food. Eventually got a refund, but will not be eating from there again!!

Just had the best Indian meal we’ve had. Beautiful food great service and price. Keep supporting these local restaurants folks either by eating in or have a takeaway. You won’t be disappointed! If we don’t they survive !!

Never again. Went in for two coffees. Small cups, lukewarm. And charged the extortionate price of £7.90 fir the privilege.

Struggled with giving a higher rating. The food is delicious and the portion size is about right. So why the three points? We have been here twice in the last 2 weeks. We are under Covid restrictions so eateries have to also comply with guidelines. The below are the issues we picked up on. Had to ask about track and trace on the 1st visit and they didnt even bother on the 2nd. The pints are expensive at 5.25 (menu stated 4.50) so i decided on my second visit to get a bottle of cider because it is advertised at 3.85 for a 568ml bottle (pint). When it was delivered it was a 330ml bottle. This was questioned at the time and we was told they will reduce the price to 3.00. This then made it quite expensive and I would have gone for a pint if I had known. This is also a licencing issue because what is being served is not what is advertised. My Wife went for a vegetarian meal, Palak Paneer. This was clearly made using chicken or another meat stock. She is not vegetarian so was not too bothered. Face masks...there was 2 waiting on staff. One had the mask dangling off her ear most of the time and the other had his nose exposed most of the time. My wife asked to take away the remains of her meal and the waiter picked up her Naan bread with his hands! On our 1st visit my wife asked for a Chana Chat with a Puri, she got a Chicken Chat. When she questioned this with the waiter she just got a blank look. Fortunately she likes Chicken so didnt argue. She asked for a pint of diet coke with no ice and got half pint with ice, this was replaced by the manager. On our 1st visit we were the only persons in the place, on the 2nd there was only one group so I would expect some of these mistakes if it was busy, but the staff were clearly looking for things to do. This was displayed by all three persons asking if out food was ok within 2 minutes of each course being delivered, not a drama, but a bit over the top.. I will end on a positive. The food is simply some of the best tasting Indian style food I have had. It is the sole reason we returned a second time. The only bad item in my opinion was the popudums, they were soft in the middle, not crunchy. The place is easy to find and parking is good. Slightly off putting is the local youths seem to gather outside, i suspect this is for the free wifi. Lots of them sat at tables with not many drinks in front of them. The placed was clean and lighting is good without being too bright, we sat in booths on both visits and it had a cosy feel to it. The addition of a phone charging socket was a nice touch. My final thoughts.... If this place was in Manchester where we are from they would not do so well on the restaurant side due to poor service but the take away side would be a hit. Overall we wont return to the restaurant but may have a take away, like I sad, the food is great. Definatly need to pull thier socks up because the amature service lets them down a lot despite how friendly the place is, little things like knife and fork placement, putting smaller cutlery on the inside of the larger ones for example.

We placed an order for the take out and we were picking up at 8pm, on noticing our Email it was going to be delivered as it stated delivery between 8pm and 8.15pm and a charge made for this i was delighted. Only that by 8.30 no food a quick call was made to be told it is out so I thought it is on its way by 8.45 called again to be told in delivery we do not do delivery The online ordering is a shambles and then to be told once i headed over that the food would still be hot i am not sure what planet she was on but all needed re heating, i asked why did no one call ,email or text to ask if i was running late and not once did the owner ask, a member of staff did and all I heard they were busy and if she realised it was me she would have called, in this trade no matter who it is call them. On line service not again hugely disappointed and very angry.
