First steak was inedible they changed it with out question second one was super panocota was lovely beer very good with a great choose of cask ales well done

Cozy pub, friendly staff and great food

This restaurant has been a favourite of ours and for good reasons. The Steak & Ale pie is absolutely the very best we have ever had. The Herb pastry delicious gravy and meat cooked to perfection is a phenomenal combination. Staff are great as is the service Cannot fault it and looking forward to visiting TLT again

Excellent food, would be a five if the welcome was as nice as the food. Too many youngsters working there who really shouldn’t be in the “hospitality” industry. Shame that young ones still don’t connect actions with consequences, meaning, how you treat and welcome customers who pay your wage has a direct link to how much money you take home. It’s not rocket science. Going to start taking cash with me again so I can give the ones who actually deserve a tip the money instead of everyone taking a share.

Fab place, we’re from Sheffield and we’ve visited here about 4 times when on walks or on the way back from Alton towers. The food is always amazing and they serve lilleys cider which is always a win from me. Their chips are to DIE for.

Myself and my friends went out for a meal last night at the Lazy trout. None of us had ever been before prior to this. The service was excellent, the staff were all really professional and friendly. The food was incredible, would highly recommend! Thank you!

Lovely pub, great food, but feeling a little rushed and without the care around the edges it used to have. Salad vinaigrette used to be nicer, and they gave me a few gone off salad leaves. Chips used to be amazing. But now undercooked, chewy, unseasoned and mediocre. The lasagne though was 10/10.

Bar staff was clueless about the beers on offer which was a shame.

As ever an excellent atmosphere with a lovely welcome by the staff and a fantastic meal. if your in the area the Lazy Trout will add so much to your experience

Usually i dont like to leave reviews,but this time i really wanted to.A ride to this place was quite tortuous but it def was worth it,probably one of the best pub ive been to.I recommend to try a venison,it was amazing.And its also dog friendly

Took my mum for a birthday meal and it was fantastic. The food quality was amazing and the price was very reasonable. The only downside was the noise from everyone talking but that’s to be expected in a popular place. We will be coming back again.

Relaxing, comforting atmosphere, brilliant service, and excellent food .

We were visiting the area and originally planned to go to a different pub for some dinner but they were closed on arrival. So we popped here instead and they managed to find us a table despite there being a party and it being very busy with the locals. The service was excellent and the food was perfect 👌 We both chose to eat lasagna but seeing the food served around us we could easily have had anything off the menu, it all looked delicious! Thank you for a lovely evening that turned out for the best.

Came here while on holiday after reading reviews and seeing positive comments in the cottage's visitors book. Deliberately chose Tuesday as it's Rib Night and we haven't had decent ribs out for ages! The pub was very busy when we arrived, but service was friendly and prompt. The ribs were very good, the meat fell off the bones and the sauce was not too sweet, they came with crispy chips, sweetcorn and a good coleslaw. However, a special mention for the Chocolate Brownie, simply the best I've ever had! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his crumble too. We'd definitely be regulars if we lived here. Highly recommended.

Amazing food including roast dinners. We had beef and chicken and both were delicious and a great price too. A couple of the party had the asparagus and pea soup starter….it was amazing. Service was spot on and lovely atmosphere. A request….Please do your delicious cauliflower cheese as a side…..especially with the roasts 🙏🙏🙏 Thanks for a fabulous meal for my parents anniversary, we all had a wonderful time xxx

I chose the fish and chips, my wife had the chicken fillet, I can honestly say that it was the best pub food we have ever eaten. Absolutely fabulous, looking forward to our next visit.

Discovered this pub years ago while exploring the roaches and loved it. I returned this weekend, having moved far away and it’s still such a great place for a beer or for a meal!

Lovely place to stop after a visit to Tittesworth reservoir. We popped in off the cuff at around 5.30pm and managed to get a table outdoors on a beautiful day. The service was prompt and welcoming. The food was nice with a good choice of drinks. Unfortunately service dropped off towards shift changeover (6.30pm) and we weren't as well looked after. Unable to catch anyone's attention, we failed to get another round of drinks. By the time someone came to us we simply asked for the bill and left. We could've gone to the bar to order more but when you're still eating this isn't ideal. Maybe a time best avoided.

Booked a table for mid afternoon and it was busy even then, reflecting what a good place this is. Despite being nearly full the service was speedy, friendly and efficient. Really nice food, great selection of beers. Not often I give 5 stars, this deserves it.

The best pub for miles! We live in Sussex but visit the area regularly to see my parents, and we come here almost every time. We first found the Lazy Trout about 6/7 years ago and have never had a bad meal. Great selection of food and drinks, excellent value for money and lovely service.

Visited over a busy lunch service. We ordered soup starters and then the Sunday lunch beef it was cooked to perfection and was really tasty. Served pink unless otherwise requested. Staff were attentive and polite. Would definitely recommend and we will be Visiting again soon

Lovely setting, lovely ambience, excellent service especially as the restaurant was extremely busy. Great choice on the menu, we went for the lamb and Stornaway black pudding pie, it was delicious, Mum had lasagna. It was a lovely experience, which was so relaxing, we didn't feel rushed and the service was at a good tempo. Loved it and would highly recommend.

Went with a family group of 12 service was good and Sunday roast very good at a reasonable price of £14.95 for even beef and lamb would highly recommend

Lovely food, friendly staff loved the outdoor covered seating area!! If you want a table inside or under the covered area I would recommend pre booking as they get busy and don't always have free tables 😊

Typical English pub with pleasant atmosphere and good service. We had some coffees and some cheesecake so we can't rate the food, but the place is very nice and located in a fantastic natural environment. Recommended without a doubt....☺️

Had a great dinner here (swordfish and a veggie burger) and returned the following morning for breakfast (1 veggie and 1 meat cooked breakfast). It's a lovely country pub with a warm welcome and decent food. Would absolutely recommend.

A little disappointed by this today the usual lovely setting and friendly staff however the food left alot to be desired. Looked fantastic but all items needed flavour. Miso glazed mushrooms were OK brilliant selection of mushrooms however every bland. King prawn linguine was very disappointing looked stunning however the pasta was so over cooked it was a giant slab which needed to be cut with a knife. Prawns were nicely cooked but very tight on the amount of these. Onion rings looked amazing however the battery was very sweet tasted almost doughnut like in flavour.

I can’t thank the Lazy Trout team enough! I had stupidly booked for the wrong weekend and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful to find a space to squeeze all 10 of us in! The food was delicious as always!

Stopped for dinner in the back garden - great views! Huge and delicious fish&chips for me, steak salad bowl for him. Steak a little chewy but still pretty happy with the meal. Crumble dessert to share - overall great evening meal and will be back when area again

We had a pot of tea with our meal Felt really hot in the pub so we had to take our tops off Toilet clean and pleasant Nice decor Big car park Book your table in advance because gets busy here we will be back Update - we came bck next day and we sat in garden where clearly someone had finished meal earlier, nobody came out to clean it and serve us. So for service I am giving 1 out of 5, you lost 45f business, I am disappointed

We are staying nearby and visited a few times for food and drinks - both are amazing. The ribs on a Tuesday particularly amazing. We also loved the hummus and flatbreads, the summer spritzes, mushroom crostini, the burgers and the kids menu are worth a mention too. The service is friendly and relaxed and a lovely place to sit. Definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Ordered two roast beef dinners on Sunday 30th June 2024 for myself and husband. Underneath the plates were hotter than the food itself. It went back to the kitchen to be reheated. Came back the same! The service was poor in the fact that they didn’t ask if the food was better. In fact they didn’t even ask in the first instance, if our food was good!

Excellent value, the Sunday roast was cooked to perfection and in a timely manner. Really enjoyed our visit.

First Visit will definitely be back.

Food was nice my cheeseburger and chips with gravy was amazing but the steak and ale pie my wife had wasn't as nice as normal, the beef was very fatty, the pastry tasted floury and the gravy tasted abit burnt. (I tried it too to check)The drinks and dessert were lovely, service was brilliant until near the end when I think there wasn't as many staff on and we'd been asked if we wanted a dessert and we both said yes but no dessert meny was brought to us. Very friendly staff though. Asked for mayo, brought straight away with a smile.

Great place for a great day out after a stroll with nature perfect i will be returning again keep up the great work and the food was excellent we would have stayed longer and tried the steak and one of them scrumptious deserts until the next visit take care and stay safe .... Jerry & jase

Really pleasant pub. 5 of us had dinner here on a sunny busy weeknight. The service was excellent, the beer was cold and the food was uncomplicated, tasty with a good variety of dishes. Would recommend.

Change your Beef supplier because Sunday roast needs to be better....

For a family gathering (6 adults aged 60s to 90s) and staying within walking distance we had a total of 16 adult meals here over 3 consecutive nights. There were no problems with any of them. Personally I enjoyed the salmon teriyaki, swordfish, and a steak. The steak was medium rare, as requested. A companion requested and received a steak cooked medium well. The prices are reasonable and the service efficient and pleasant. The restaurant was almost full each evening, it is advisable to book

Lovely family meal out. The place was lively but in a good way. Great for families and even dogs in some places. Vegan menu was especially good and the main reason we came (since one of us is Vegan), but meat eaters also well-catered for.

Visited on a Thursday lunch, just two of us after a neighbour recommended it. We hadn't booked, but we were given a lovely, cosy table by the fireplace. The service was excellent! Lovely, helpful staff. The food was delicious, lovely vegetables served with the steak, which was cooked exactly as we ordered it. Puddings were 😍 😍 😍 sticky toffee pudding with honeycomb ice cream, and my friend had the lovely cherry cheesecake. All in all, it was a lovely experience. Would definitely recommend it and will return again!

What a find in the Peak District. Great food. If I lived near I would be a regular visitor. Set in a lovely village just 100m from a reservoir where there is bird rabbits and people to watch.

Not the sort of pub to go to for an afternoon drink. All tables are set up for eating and you need to check to see what tables have been reserved even outside, before you get your drinks.

A really cosy and welcoming pub in the beautiful countryside. The food portions were HUGE and so delicious, we'll definitely be back. Thank you!

The food and service were really good we both enjoyed our meals enormously The only complaint we could have made was the restaurant door it’s constant banging as people. Came in and out a door closure device would prevent it slamming

Had fish snd chips x 2. Very little fish in one all batter, Luke warm peas and the chips looked and tasted like they had been reheated several times. Told them when paying and the comment was sorry. Not impressed.
