The Last Word in Edinburgh, City of

Bar in Edinburgh. You should walk about 15 minutes from the city center. It is famous for its cocktails, especially the cocktail that has the same name as the restaurant. Very small and underground. There are several bars on the same street

We had a horrible experience. We were four girlfriends together, arrived at 22, and ordered three beers and a cocktail and I asked to also try a Scottish whisky. The waitress asked if I trusted her to choose something which I did. She brought a glass of her choice and also the bottle which she left at the table. There was only about half a shot left in the bottle. We didn’t think anything of it, enjoyed our drinks and time together. About 30 minutes later the bottle was still there and we thought she must be so kind to offer us the half a drink that was left so we figured we would tip extra nicely. 15 minutes later we ask for the bill which is brought without a word. We then see they are charging us four whiskeys! When I approach the counter the waitress taps her manager. I ask him why they are charging four whiskeys when we ordered one. His reply: “Because you poured yourself from the bottle - this is illegal!” We said we were happy to pay for the extra single (although it was definitely not a full drink) but adding drinks to customers’ bill without a word is also illegal. He then said he never would have actually made us pay for four drinks and said “he didn’t have a problem with us”. He seemed stressed at this point, removed two of the whiskeys from the bill and we paid - obviously no tip. The waitress did not meet our eyes. We understand they were unhappy we finished what was left but it seems really weird to leave an almost empty bottle four over half an hour without a word. The normal thing would have been to say something right away or when they brought the bill. Our feeling was this was not the first time they had added drinks but perhaps the first time a customer noticed and refused to pay.

The guy at the bar needs removed. Rude and arrogant bar man . Let us locals enjoy our local bars without your petty nonsense.

I'm sorry...but what the actual hell. This was brilliant, bar staff beautifully attentive with amazing drinks. Very busy, but accommodating for walk ins. Well worth a visit..!!

This bar was one of the highlights of our trip to Edinburgh. Top notch cocktails in a super cozy and relaxed setting. The bartenders always friendly and had great recommendations including some unique cider options!

Probably my favourite place in Edinburgh, for everything from a quiet afternoon or early evening tipple to a go-to destination for visitors to the city. The cocktail list is extensive and universally brilliant (By the Fire is a personal favourite), but it's their whisky flights that stand out for me, both for the shared experience and the uniquely passionate and personal selections. Always the first bar that comes to mind if ever I'm asked for recommendations.

The vibes in here are great and so is the service. I didn’t particularly enjoy my cocktails, found them way too strong/unenjoyable but I’d try here again. My friend loved ger dry martini.

Such a swanky, cool atmosphere. We wanted a nightcap and we were not disappointed. Our server was excellent and gave great recommendations. He made us “The Flip”, which was a dessert cocktail and we ordered 3 because they were delicious. Would definitely visit again whenever we’re in the area!

One of the best bars in Edinburgh. The staff is amazing, true masters of cocktail making. They earned their spurs in regards to whiskey and the rest. An amazing location in the quieter parts of Edinburgh with some awesome patrons as well. Special thanks to Felix who took great care of us a couple of weeks ago as well as the rest of their wonderful bar brigade. It’s a must visit when you’re in Edinburgh.

Idiosyncratic! I came to taste the drams, I stayed for the cocktails. Amazing service from one of the guys with long hair !!!

I did not immediately spot this place, as it is well hidden, but I really loved it! It has a lovely, cozy atmosphere with some lovely decor. My partner and I set on some comfortable armchair by the fire! The bartender was really friendly and really patient and helpful when we asked him lots of questions about the cocktails. The cocktails are really unique and interesting, and they seem to have some ingredients that they make themselves. I really enjoyed the ones we ordered. In general, they seem to have a great selection of drinks.

The Last Word has to be the coziest cocktail place I've visited in Edinburgh, with a chill and relaxing ambience. The service was great and the cocktails were top tier. Would definitely recommend for cocktail enthusiasts and looking forward to visiting again soon.

We tried four different cocktails and they were all amazing. All of them came with a twist that makes you wonder how all those different ingredients are combined in harmony. Even their notorious goat chese cocktail made sense after the first sip. Highly recommended for whoever whishes to experience a palette orgasm and broaden his/her cocktail horizons. Also the music really fits the vibe of the bar, very good tunes.

There's no food but a great little gem of a place for a drink.

What a treat -- what a truly delightful cocktail bar that happens to make the eponymous drink very very well. Cozy ambiance, pleasant candles & creative decor, and awesome staff who were both very friendly and very knowledgeable. I'm quite glad I went out of my way to come here tonight. Be aware the entrance was a little tricky to find as it's below street level.

A cool, retro intimate cocktail bar. Been making visits for years. Love the whiskey sours . Not a large space but very chilled and not many cocktails they can’t provide. Love the audio of the classic stand up comedians while visiting the restrooms.

What a fantastic little find. We were recommended to head to Stockbridge to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Fringe and stumbled across The Last Word. Set down one flight of stairs, big old chairs in a warm rustic environment, with a warm welcome from the staff. We only had drinks but the cocktails were sublime, some of the best I've ever had. I can only apologise as I didn't get their names but the two male members of staff, were top notch. Warm, approachable and very good at what they do. We will definitely be back. A lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Fantastic cocktail bar in a lovely spot. The Last Word definitely deserves the hype; the drinks were delicious, the bar had fantastic vibes with an open fire, a sunny aspect and cushioned corners. Service was great, if anything a touch over attentive at times - but better over than under!

For anyone who loves whiskey, cocktails or just a comfortable seat to enjoy a quiet drink this is the bar for you. Can't rate the passion and friendliness if the staff enough!!!

Fantastic whisky selection in Stockbridge area of Edinburgh. Staff were very professional. They even presented us with the bottles we were served with to give me and my friend a better understanding of drink options. Place has a great mood setting. With dim lighting and two lovely fireplaces with comfy seating infront of them. If you want a cosy place to snuggle up by a fireplace in a cold wintery night and read a book, then this the place to go.

Fantastic cocktails and the staff were great. They really knew everything and were great at suggesting drinks for our own preference. The confessional toilets are interesting as is the comedy show recordings. Will definitely be returning and bringing friends!
