We attended the lambs in for a funeral wake. The bar manager was brilliant he was so friendly and chatty, the smoking area was really cute with heaters flowers on the tables. Toilets were really clean.

In response to Jenny D. The night in question was the 22nd December which is deemed as “mad Friday” & when I went over to your table it was 9:20pm & you had 3 empty wine bottles & two tubs of Pringles on your table. One of your children had their heads on the table so you hadn’t only been in the pub for 15mins as you indicate. When you was told to leave, the owner was on the phone from his holiday destination telling us to remove you all from the pub because of the time & licensing laws. I didn’t speak to you so ghastly as you have said, and it I was a bit abrupt it was because our mgr ( the man that said you could come in had actually left the pub unexpectedly) & it was a very very busy night. I feel I was spoken to ( verbally) in an aggressive way, getting stern looks from an older lady & your friend was shouting at me too, telling me to “get back behind the bar” - you then came to the bar & you was emotionally upset which had been made worse by the alcohol & the fact it was Christmas 🎄- I didn’t make you cry. It was a trival situation in my opinion. If I was rude to you I apologise, but situations are monitored by CCTV. I actually lost my job for this situation, so should you wish to come back into the pub, you will be greeted by the mgr who let you come into the pub in the first place. Have a lovely new year Jenny. 🥳 happy New year

As a family we had been to the Christmas panto at the Theatre Royal. Afterwards to finish off our evening we decided to go for a drink. We asked whether children (9&12) would be allowed in for a drink. A lovely member of staff (male) said that we could. We ordered drinks and sat down, all was great. Around 15 minutes later a rude and hostile member of staff (woman, older, glasses) came over to our table and told us to ‘get the children out’. Her manner was awful. We explained that we did ask but made us feel that we had done wrong. She argued with us in front of the children and other customers. The children were also upset. I cannot explain how horrible her manner was. The children left with their dad and we quickly finished our drinks and whilst doing so was made to feel very uncomfortable as she kept looking over giving us horrible looks and we felt very rushed. When leaving the pub I decided to speak to this member of staff to explain to her how she made us feel. Again she was very rude and was blaming us for the situation when in fact we did ask and didn’t take it upon ourselves to bring the children in without asking. She was again very rude and horrible to the point she made me cry. Another member of staff (young male) came over and apologised for her behaviour. It’s safe to say we will never step foot in this pub again and will be spreading the word about this.

What a great job they have done since re-opening this pub. The landlady has transformed this place and the staff, albeit somewhat quirky, are friendly and chatty. The decor is nice and the place is always busy. Great selection of beers and spirits and usually 4 or 5 real ales and ciders on draught. Great to see most of the old regulars back and also many many new faces. If you are popping in for one or popping in for many, this is one of the better pubs in the town centre to hang out.

Delicious lunch yesterday. Very good fish and chips. Thick white fish in lovely crispy batter. One of the nicest Iv had. My friend chose a chicken wrap which she really enjoyed. Amazingly quick service especially considering there was a funeral party in!
