Very nice food but service was lacking on this occasion. We waited a long time to order and an unreasonable amount of time to clear plates and order deserts. Personally I would have left, but we had an elderly relative with us who really wanted a sundae. Deserts very nice. No disabled toilet, and a queue for the two ladies toilets that were available.

A group of 6 of us had an evening meal here and can thoroughly recommend eating here. All staff were friendly and welcoming, as well as efficient at their various roles. One of us has to be strictly gluten free - staff aware of the issue and there were 4 choices available. Similar choice for vegetarians. All meals were enjoyed - servings are a good size and presented well. Some of us managed deserts - lemon tart was very good. The situation of the restaurant is a little unusual - in a caravan park next to an old tower but don't be put off by that as you'll miss out on a good meal.

We enjoyed a delicious meal and were made to feel very welcome even though it was a spur of the moment decision to dine here. My Prawn Linguine was truly mouthwatering and a very generous serve. My partner had the Steak and Ale Pie and said the same. I’m so glad we came here. Thanks to Panny at Barholm Accommodation who recommended it.

I have had the most wonderful, peaceful evening here in the dog part of the pub. Just me and my pooch having dinner. It's warm, lovely music, and the food was superb. Really really superb. I often use a burger as a test of a pub, and this one was off the charts. Tasty, well cooked, generous. Absolutely lovely. Service was also brilliant. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Thank you for a lovely, quiet, peaceful, tasty evening. As a customer I couldn't ask for anything more. Thank you..

After reading good reviews for Sunday carvery, we decided to try. Although it recommended booking, we took the chance and just called in. We were told if we ate straight away there was a table free. It wasn’t very full and the server took our orders immediately. We both had the carvery, I think that was the only food available, and ordered a 2 course lunch for our dog. We were the only 2 at the carvery, and the trays were well stocked. A member of staff carved your meat & gave you a Yorkshire pudding, left us to help ourselves to a range of roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots, cauliflower cheese, and some greens. Roast potatoes couldn’t be cut up as they were tough, mashed potatoes tasted powdery and the veg was a mixture of very hard or bendy! Very disappointing. Our dogs dinner came in a dog bowl, just a small carvery dinner - he dived straight in and ate everything but the veg. I asked for his doggy ice cream 4 times before I actually received it. He did enjoy though when he eventually got it.

Went as family , on holiday in the area . Disappointed. Menu not brilliant, not a lot of choice- burgers over cooked. Child’s burger, not even slice of cheese( for what that would have cost) , pie alot of gravy. Crispy chicken not too bad. We expected it to be better, but it is what it is, a pub turning out reasonably priced poor food within the caravan park.

We visited this lovely pub 3 times in our weeks holiday, once for a drink and twice for dinner We had our dog with us and sat outside as the weather was lovely. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Food was very good. Our dog Stan had a special meal of “Sunday roast” meat potatoes and gravy in a dog bowl followed by doggy ice cream! Lovely venue would definitely recommend

We were stuck for something to eat as nothing in Newton Stewart seemed to be open, and we found Lairds Inn online. The menu looked good, so we quickly booked a table. Our satnav seemed to have difficulty getting us there, but a very helpful local gentleman got us back on track. It turns out the inn is in the middle of the Castle Cary holiday park, something that wasn't immediately obvious from their website. We finally arrived and had a fabulous meal, sitting outside in glorious sunshine. The barman, sorry we didn't get his name, was so welcoming and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. He is a definite asset to the establishment and seemed to be on the go continually. The food is reasonably priced and cooked to order. Our haddock and chips was lovely, light crispy batter, flaky fish and the chips were on another level! Our only regret was the portions were so generous we didn't have room for desert!

Another fab meal at the lairds inn, reasonable prices especially the desserts at £6 which is very reasonable and good sized portions. The largest portion of creme brulee my husband had ever had, usually it is just a thin layer and not much of it but not at the lairds inn and the biscotti topping was lovely. I had an old favourite profiteroles... yummy. Staff was exceptional , polite, very efficient and food came quickly. Then sat outside in the sun to finnish our drinks. Can highly recommend the lairds inn for a meal out....just hope the chef puts her fabulous steak pie on the autumn menu the individual fully encased one it is tremendous,,,,many thanks all be back soon

This is the only restaurant within walking distance of Creetown, so it's a good thing it really is very good. We enjoyed the rather more interesting choice of starters than is often on offer. And our steaks were of excellent quality and impeccably cooked to our liking. The desserts were perhaps a little less exciting but I enjoyed my panna cotta. The staff were very friendly and engaging. It was all good value. If I had a criticism, it is that service was perhaps a little too prompt with barely a gap between courses.

Went for lunch and was told that the kitchen was closed and would re-open later this seems to be a normal thing even though it sits on a lovely caravan site so was quite a disappointment the building is very imposing and ornate however it would appear that the owners have lost love with it there appears to be no pride or upkeep in the building there is a strong damp smell in the bar area also the beautiful building does appear to be blocked by what i can only describe as a dodgy looking shed with outside seating which does not allow smoking which seems pointless to me wouldn't rush back in a hurry unless i really needed the bathroom

Thought we couldn’t fault this place in anyway until one of our party lost there IPhone we phoned numerous times to be told the phone wasn’t on the premises. Once managed to track phone the next day and realise it was on premises staff were very unhelpful for example was told they were too busy and to phone back in half an hour. We could get there in 10mins so did so to be met with a response of someone has already been on the phone and not being allowed to have a look in the dining room where we were sat. Luckily we managed to ping phone and it turned out to be inside menus and clearly had been all night. Rather rubbish ending to what was a lovely meal and great service the night before.

Having read reviews and seen pictures of the fish and chips we booked and traveled 30 miles to try for ourselves I used to be a regular 30 odd years ago, on arrival the place didn’t seem to have the style of days gone by however we got shown to a table the place was cold dirty and in need of a good clean my head was saying leave but I was reluctant to make a fuss so I asked the waitress are your fish and chips as good as in pictures and she assured me that they were I was still concerned I then visited the ladies the place had only just opened and the toilets were filthy with overflowing bins and toilet paper on the floor (must have been from the day or days before) . The fish and chips arrived and the were limp greasy over salted chips so we got up and said we were leaving but wanted to pay for our drinks not a very good lager in strange glasses but had to wait for person in charge who said people rave about our fish and chips to which I replied that’s why we have travelled so far I also said they the food was a mess so she said not to pay for our drinks so we left, if you want to sit in a grubby cold bar that reeks of dogs this is the place for you I’d rather not

More than happy to see social distancing guidelines being adhered you with 2m guidelines, test & trace, staff wearing masks & perspex screening in place at bar area. Well prepared and executed by all. The food was fantastic, two of us opted for the delicious Sunday Roast, a real bargain at £8.99 for a mountain of roast beef slices, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, creamy mash, peas, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli & cabbage, lashing of tasty gravy made for a hearty dish of deliciousness the other two opted for the Teriyaki Beef, they weren’t disappointed, big bowl of beef and noodles that would’ve been at home in the best Thai restaurant, very tasty and a defo recommendation. We visited after staying on the caravan site. I ordered the burger on our waitresses recommendation. As I started eating into it,the middle of the burger was pink and undercooked. Nobody came to check on us or other tables in the room. I ate what I could and what I did eat was really tasty! My other half loved his steak. I said to the waitress when she eventually appeared back who said she was very sorry about it. When asked what the chef said I was told she didnt see as she was too busy. Too busy to be told food is undercooked! I asked if she could say to the chef and when she returned, I was told the chef was sorry. From working in a restaurant myself, it would have been taken straight off the bill as an apology. I'm not sure the chef was even told. As I said what we did eat was tasty and I was gutted by my meal.

An absolute pleasure. Freshly prepared starters of deliciously crisp fish goujons and divine creamy garlic mushrooms, attentively managed by the waitresses despite us arriving a little early. The house white went very well with my meal. The portion sizes are generous and clearly freshly cooked. I can recommend everything the family ordered: chicken supreme (excellent leek sauce), sirloin cooked to perfection (well done, which is tricky! And a super peppercorn sauce to boot), very tasty vegetable lasagna and the Scottish salmon fillet was melt-in-the-mouth. Children’s fish and chips also devoured by my youngest. There were no delays and the atmosphere was very friendly. For desserts, the sticky sponge was a big portion with lots of good sauce and the apple pie and custard was delicious - lovely cappuccino as well! All in all, a great dining experience! Thank you!

Five of us eat at this pub which is on a caravan site, the food was excellent and well priced. Service was good and helpful. Disappointing was the choice of draught beer with even the Belhaven Best was out and no local cask ales available even in bottles despite the abundance of real ales in Scotland. Most disconcerting was that the waiting on staff wore masks whilst serving food which defeated the object of having other Covid19 precautions in place. It may not be legally required but it is most certainly best practise and within the spirit of the Scottish approach and would make punters more comfortable.

Sunday Lunch at the Lairds is quality food for a bargain price, am planning to eat there again very soon. Would recommend eating here, warm and friendly atmosphere and staff.

You should definitely give the Lairds Inn a look. A new revised menu with numerous excellent new dishes. Great introduction offering a Tapas Menu. We tried it, succulent Fish Gojouns, Chilli Chicken & Teriyaki Beef amongst some of the beautiful, tasty dishes. Very good value on a Friday night offering steaks for £13 with all the trimmings. Their home made chips are a tasty treat to eat. Definitely worth a visit and I would recommend the Lairds Inn to couples, families et al, even furry friends are welcome. Great efforts by the (relatively) new owners and management team.

Only open at weekend during the winter months. We were staying on Castle Cary Holiday Park and in need of dinner. The inn looks amazing from the outside and is just as lovely inside. The first night we just had a drink, what a friendly welcome we had, open fires lit, comfy chairs, very relaxing. Second night we had something to eat as well, Salmon, crunched potatoes, capers and veg was delicious and traditional Lancashire hot pot followed by Apple crumble and custard, all really delicious. Service was friendly and extremely efficient. All in all a lovely experience.Sadly couldn't stay for Sunday lunch which at £7:95 a bargain.Would definitely recommend and return when in the area.

Having previously dined at the lairds inn and enjoyed it, was very surprised and disappointed with the standard of my meal. Potato and leek soup was tasteless and badly put together. The steak pie ( which has been excellent in the past) was no more than a pastry case filled with gravy . The home cut chips were soggy and greasy. I have been put off from visiting again for food

Phoned last minute Hogmanay and was given table for three on New Years Day 4.30pm,great menu plenty of options ,I had haddock gougons which were so light and crisp and fresh, hubby delighted with his tattie and leek soup, unfortunately ran out of roast beef for us so I had chicken dinner which was superb, hubby had pork dinner, super tender and tasty, staff were lovely polite ,attentive even though the place was really busy, added bonus live music which we really enjoyed and was loud enough to enjoy but still have a conversation with each other, been coming to this caravan park for 15 years and I think these guys running the Lairds are the best yet!keep up the good work and enjoy a well earned rest

It's great to have found somewhere local which offers the whole package - excellent food, great service and a relaxing atmosphere - all at very reasonable prices. We have visited now on a couple of occasions, once for Sunday Lunch & the other was the Steak Night, both of which were excellent. The menu offers a good choice of dishes with a roast on a Sunday & a Steak Night on a Friday (not sure if this is every Friday so better phone & check first) - the portions of which were very generous. They offer plenty of car parking right outside as well as the opportunity of booking your table online, which is really handy. I always find it helpful to know whether you can make payment by card & you can, they have a card machine. Overall, I can't praise The Lairds Inn enough - I would definately recommend.

Found this place with difficulty after a day in Galloway Forest. Don't try to follow sat nav, go into the holiday park and it's at the far end. The most friendly and welcoming staff, beautifully decorated a roaring fire was going and we had the most delicious rib eye steaks, one rare one medium rare and cooked to perfection. We were cold and tired when we arrived and left full and warm. Great place thank you for your hospitality

Had a nice dinner here. One of the kids burgers was slightly overcooked and went hard but the rest of the food was very tasty. Service was quick and friendly. Place was cozy and inviting. Would go again if in the area.

We booked this restaurant with a little trepidation after reading some of the reviews. However, we had a great meal in cosy, interesting surroundings, served by friendly staff. It is only a small restaurant with 7 tables and is in an old building. The evening we were there it was busy with tables being filled quickly. There was music playing but it was quiet and not at all distracting. I would go again if I was in the area but probably not in high season when the holiday park would be full.

Went for a family meal, and found the food excellent, well prepared, the drink to be excellent quality and the facilities to be clean, comfortable and charming. We will most definitely return again, but hope the Laird's Inn manages to recruit and retain more staff as the two girls were really treading water the evening we went, despite this they still managed a reasonable level of attentiveness and service.

Had not been at lairds inn since we went to castle cary as a regular visitor years ago. So it was lovely to see it still open and doing well. New owner has devised an all round menu which would suit most tastes. I had steak and ale pie and my hubby had salmon special with caper butter. Both meals were really really good, well presented and at very reasonable prices. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend but book a table it is very popular and busy. Well done sharon and team. R. M.

Good food in an attractive, elevated setting at the top of a pleasant campsite, with views across to the estuary. Quality pub fare - my husband's particularly liked his chicken, leek and ham pie with 'proper' pastry all around it (i.e. NOT puff pastry). Nice hand-cut chips too.

A beautiful grand building in a wonderful setting. It was very quiet but the service and food were excellent. Not cheap but definitely worth it for a special occasion.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

We had a day out yesterday and ended up here for coffee. The sign at the entrance said the cafe was open until 4.30. As it was just before 4 when we parked round the back we thought we had plenty of time. However when we entered the cafe I approached the counter to order I was told in no uncertain terms that they were shut. When I pointed out that their sign had said it was open until 4.30 the rude assistant pointed to the sign on the counter which said last orders 4. I said it was 4 and we only wanted coffees she said 'well we're shut'. You would think that after 2 years of pandemic that businesses would be grateful for any money they could get, well that's not the case in this cafe. We had been going to buy some plants but left empty handed and on the way out told the assistant in the shop that we wouldn't be back. Their loss is someone else's gain
