Came with my partner for breakfast. The decor is outdated, dirty black tables and dirty menus. The music was so loud & irritating, we could barely hear ourselves think - not what you want for a morning breakfast visit. The breakfast was ok, I’ve had better, you had to pay extra if you wanted toast? Don’t think we would visit again.

Really lovely cafe. Friendly and efficient service. It's spotlessly clean. Excellent choice of cakes and a really nice coffee. The igger meals we saw being served looked really nice. Nice decor and atmosphere too

Very nicely decorated and set up little cafe. Good clean toilet facility. Good choice of foods on the menu - something for everybody. I had a cheese ploughmans and it came on a board with an excellent selection of foods, good size piece of cheese and really tasty, best ploughmans Ive had in a while. Had no room for pudding but puddings and cakes on the menu looked very good.

We had a stale dry scone and stale dry unpleasant cake. Service slow and dirty tables not being cleared. Will not return.

Lovely atmosphere, great background music and decor. Breakfast was good with good portions. Staff were friendly. Just let down because we felt the service was a bit too laid back and felt that £1.10 for a slice of toast was a bit high. This breakfast was £10 and doesn't include drinks They do have a good selection of cakes too

Good service and friendly staff and a very cute little cafe. Food was nice but a bit pricey in my opinion. The rarebit was tasty but only one piece of bread so a very small portion. Chilli was tasty and they were very welcoming for our dog and gave her water and treats.

Very welcoming, the food was great - fantastic range for deserts and cakes. We asked to amend an option on the menu and they did so with no hassle at all.

Stopped here for a brunch. Enjoyed a delicious fried breakfast in a cosy setting. Was quite busy and seemed a bit slow at first, but then very friendly with second waitress good fun and no real wait with the food. Chocolate and mocca very good indeed and the cakes looked great, though we didn't try them. Only preference would be buttered toast included in breakfast. Otherwise excellent.

Just awful, poor food, slow service and missed drinks from the order. Cream tea without any tea served? Beyond me! 2 coffees ordered, only 1 served and food arrived a bit at a time, first to arrive my bacon baguette, then my daughters cream tea less tea and 15 minutes later my wife was served with her cheese scones. Avoid the place it’s hopeless and chaotic.

All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was freshley cooked when ordered. What we were happy about it was open sundays. We had berkfast every day for a week. We had one evening meal which was very good. it's a very popular cafe with the locals.

On holiday and wS checking out tgd charity shops. Found The Kitchen by accident which was opposite a charity shop. Was impressed with the choice on the menu. I had Sausage, egg and chips and hubby had ham, egg and chips, All locally sourced. And the chips were homemade. I also purchased a slice of their fruit cake which I ate the next day and it was the best I had eaten for a long time. The staff were friendly and the meals very tasty. We shall definitely return we we go back next year.

We popped in to Illminster to visit another cafe but this place looked good and we had the best omelette ever!! So pleased we stopped

I have visited The Kitchen on Silver Street for years for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Emma and the team are just wonderful, so warm and welcoming and the food is always delicious. The roast dinners on a Sunday are a family favourite (and give me some time off cooking which is always appreciated!) I have also enjoyed 2 afternoon teas here with another booked in for the coming weeks. I always give them to my God Mother for Christmas as she loves the cakes, the atmosphere and the wonderful, vintage China. The also cater really well for gluten free afternoon teas. As someone who is Gluten Intolerant it can sometimes be hard to find somewhere that does good food. The Kitchen does not offer good gluten free food it offers GREAT gluten free food and the staff are always so accommodating with dietary requirements. I am ALWAYS recommending the kitchen to my customers when they visit and have always had wonderful feedback from them. A special shout out to Leanne who no matter what my daft coffee request is, always does it with a smile, humour and professionalism. A true little gem in the heart of a fabulous market town that I cannot praise or recommend highly enough.

We visited the Kitchen yesterday and enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea which was bought as a Christmas present for us. A small, very pleasant environment with a great selection of freshly prepared food. Would strongly recommend it. Beautiful china too! Well done and thank you.

Gorgeous little find, dog friendly and lovely service. Very pretty aesthetics and best of all the food was great. Ranging from burgers to paninis, scrambled egg and cake! A little late for breakfast so if we're ever back in the area we'll be sure to get there earlier

Disastrous visit. Arrived just before the cut off time of 11.45 for breakfast menu. Stood at the door waiting to be seated. No member of staff approached us so decided to take a seat anyway. Table needed clearing so we waited for some acknowledgement from the staff. Didn't happen. A member of staff cleared a table nearby which had just been vacated still no acknowledgement from staff. Then we approached the counter to speak to member of staff who said we were too late for breakfast but she would ask the owner if we could have sausage or bacon rolls. Two more parties who arrived after us were served and still no news about whether we could have breakfast rolls. Table still not cleared and no offer of drinks while we were waiting. Decided to leave after such bad treatment. Staff looked really miserable. Cannot comment on quality of food as didn't get any. Very bad experience and would not recommend.

Had a really tasty meal here. Needed to eat at an unusual time (5 30ish) so delighted to find this lovely venue opens until 8pm. I had the veggie chilli, chosen with some trepidation as they are often so badly done. In fact it was delicious! Warm friendly service too. Would definitely recommend

We went on a Tuesday morning after reading the reviews and deciding this would be a perfect Place to have a nice enjoyable breakfast. Sadly we were majorly disappointed by the lack of standard and quality of our breakfast. First of all we were told that our booking did not come through therefore we had to wait for 10 minutes to get a table. After that we were looking forward to having a nice breakfast but sadly it did not go to plan. First of all When ordering a milkshake we were given the wrong one to our table with dirty napkins. When we ordered breakfast I was dismayed to realise that they had not taken mine therefore having to wait another 20 minutes for them to quickly rush up my breakfast. The breakfast itself was average and the hash browns were clearly frozen along with it not being served with any toast. I am giving the benefit of the doubt that they had an off day but will not be returning

Popped in for lunch on a Sunday. Service was outstanding - lovely smile form staff. Food was freshly cooked, superb. And a bargain. Many thanks. Recommended.

Great food. Husband and I popped in for lunch. I had a cheese, onion and mushroom omelette and husband had a large chilli beef jacket potato, both were served with salad and both were delicious. All food and drinks were served quite quickly. There’s a good selection of cakes and the ice creams are divine😘 Staff are lovely and friendly and the place is clean bright and comfortable. This smashing eatery can get very busy, if you’re not a drop in I suggest you book to avoid disappointment. We try and visit every time we’re in Ilminster, you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy!!

The best breakfast ever. Friendly staff, very hot plates, very tasty food,well cooked, lovely toast, absolutely lovely. We were very impressed. Everyone needs to visit and try a great breakfast

Emma and her brilliant team laid on a private dinner for 29 of us as a special family celebration. We were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble, even catering for 7 small children! The food was delicious and portions very generous. Recommend a visit to The Kitchen unreservedly. We will all definitely be back whenever we are in Ilminster.

My elderly Mum of 97 and myself revisited The Kitchen at lunchtime today. We have had lunch here before pre Covid and enjoyed it. However, today was a totally different experience.... We sat at the table by the window and were given a couple of menus. We made our choices. A lady came over to take our order of Welsh Rarebit for both of us. I explained my Mum did not want the salad but got talked into having some cucumber and tomato. The lady patronisingly told my Mum that salads are good for you and she should eat it. We also ordered an Americano for Mum and a smoothie for myself and two glasses of water. We waited for what we thought was a long time but the food is cooked fresh so that was ok. The Kitchen was not busy just us and one other table eating. Eventually my Mum's Welsh Rarebit came out and my smoothie but no meal for me even though we had already been given two sets of cutlery. After getting the attention of the lady who was talking to another diner, I was told she had been thinking too much about my Mum's salad (cucumber and tomato) and mine would be out shortly (obviously forgotten). My Mum ate alone which upset her. After waiting for an unacceptable time while Mum was eating her lunch I then got up and spoke to the lady and asked her to cancel my order. Our lunch had been ruined. Mum and I came out to eat together not separately. I paid full price for my Mum's half eaten lunch and my smoothie. Not even a proper apology or explanation.... or a discount! We will most definitely not be returning. There are numerous other establishments in the area where we can eat together!

Fantastic food & atmosphere!Wow! Such a lovely little gem on Silver Street. Try it and you won’t be disappointed. Food was amazing with huge portions. Cooked freshly and beautiful presentation. We also had a couple of smoothies that were very tasty (photo after we drink half). If you want to go somewhere where you have good food and service and a very good price look no further :) hats off to the friendly staff too Ps I wanted to try the beautiful cakes but sadly had no room :(

Our first trip to Ilminster during the daytime and we stopped for lunch at this cafe as we wanted a dog friendly place to eat. Have to say we were not disappointed. We had a cheese salad and a steak burger and chips and drinks. Everything was beautifully presented the burger and chips cooked to perfection. The salad fresh crisp and tasty served with fresh bread and butter. Drinks were very nice and the lady serving us made us feel very welcome offering us treats for the dogs on arrival. Tables nicely spaced and spotlessly clean. The salad was so filling I didnt eat for the rest of the day.A gem of a cafe in this lovely town. We will be back to sample the afternoon tea in future.

ordered cheese and ham panini and inside the cheese was raw and cold so i asked for it to be cooked properly ie so the cheese was melted, it came back after being microwaved and the bread soggy, sorry wont be back again,

This is a good cafe for breakfast or lunch with a good selection on the menu, good value and nice ambiance. Situated next to the Minster that is also worth a visit.

Warm welcome on a cold day. Bright and cheerful coffee shop serving delicious scones and excellent coffee. We were there in the morning but the lunch time menu on the outside board looked very good. Nice 60's background music. A most pleasant experience

Don’t really want to share as the place, food & staff are fab! Had a late lunch today and wow it was amazing. Giant jackets were huge! Breaded Brie and homemade chips Mmmm. Then cherry pie & apple pie for afters with tasty coffee & tea. We will be back as the cakes looked lush.

My wife and I had a meal here early last Thursday evening. We are not keen on Pubs and finding a little restaurant open early evening can be difficult to find, so we were pleased to find this little gem. Fabulous meal and the apple crumble to follow was stunning, full of apple, currents, great crust and superb custard. Not one of these silly corden blu portions either! One of the best deserts I have ever had and very reasonable costs. Great friendly staff.We are not local (unfortunately) and we certainly not related, but I cannot praise 'The Kitchen' highly enough.If your bombing down the A303 (or stop/starting on the A303!) to Cornwall or Devon, give yourself a real treat. Avoid the road side diners, turn of the A303 into Ilminster. A lovely little market town, with charming Christmas lights at the moment. Find 'The Kitchen' and have a great meal!

The tea, the coffee and the tea cakes were all excellent, all this coupled with friendly service and a great atmosphere makes this a cafe well worth visiting.

We found ourselves passing through Ilminster so popped in for lunch. Food was lovely, freshly made and good value for money. Staff were very friendly.

This was a complete joke. Booked in for an afternoon tea for me and my husband 3 weeks prior to the day of visiting. We arrived at our booked time of 2.30pm, to a note pinned to the door saying closed. We had no apology, no phone call to let us know they were closed. So it cost us petrol and parking.

Found this when we were looking for somewhere for lunch. It has a lovely warm atmosphere which is very appealing from the street. We weren't disappointed. Lovely, friendly welcome. Good choice of food and drinks and lovely setting. Looking forward to going back to try the rest of the menu

As a resident of Ilminster I , and my family , always use the Kitchen . Over the course of the last 2/3 years I have probably visited over 50 times . Each occassion is a joy . Friendly , personal service with a smile which is not forced . Genuine warmth and respect for everybody .

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here today with my husband. We have eaten here before and know the food and service is good. Today I tried the traditional Somerset rarebit. It was delicious and came with a lovely side salad. Sorry and a bit surprised to read these other reviews as I came on here to add mine, it has always struck me as family friendly venue. Today there were several groups with babies and toddlers in there who seems to be happily enjoying their lunch.

We stopped en route from Cornwall to surrey. Parking is easy and the cafe is clean and spacious. Clearly popular with the locals it had a real buzz. The food is of average price and well presented. The menu is varied and there are specials available as well.

we booked on line, as it was for 4 adults & 2 Greyhounds, they gave us a great table with loads of room for us all. All the food is home cooked & freshly prepared, I saw the staff going out of their way to look after another customer with special needs. The staff were bubbly & couldnt do enough, So if you want some unpretentious tasty food with or without you pooch along side I would highly recommend a visit

This week we had a lovely lunch for 3 here. The staff were amazing and lovely. They didn't disturb our chatting and the food was served in good time. The dishes were all delicious and obviously home made with love. Not to add the amazing cakes and ice cream. It wasn't too noisy and not too crowded. Over all it was an amazing find and perfect for a meet up with friends. Would definitely go there again.

We had lunch there this week. The quality of the sandwiches was superb - good bread, lots of filling, good quality cheese and freshly hard boiled egg with plenty of mayonnaise. The coffee was great, and the service was efficient, considerate and charming. The owner Francesca definitely has her finger on the pulse, clearly passionate about providing a good experience for her customers.

We stopped en- route to Exmouth for breakfast and were not disappointed. Lovely dog friendly cafe with great staff and great food. Cakes looked so good we took some away with us! Would definitely recommend and will be back.

We stopped off for a cooked breakfast on the way to Exeter and had another great breakfast. My wife had a vegetarian cooked breakfast and I had smoked salmon and scrambled egg. Both were delicious and generous portions. The staff were delightful and the cafe had a great atmosphere. We also spotted the homeade cakes so bought a couple of slices to take home - both lovely. Love this place!

We have enjoyed coffee and cakes here several times and they also do a decent sausage sandiwich and similar for breakfast. However lunch a few weeks ago was rather mediocre. The Menus offered to us were shabby and dogeared and the food was very ordinary. Nothing wrong with food but it really is plain and basic. Service friendly and cheerful but it felt a little haphazard.

Stopped a few times when travelling. Each time food is create and cakes/scones are all really yummy.

We stopped for coffee on our way through Ilminster, although pleasant it was quite noisy, especially when coffees were being made. Although we ordered large coffees when the came they were regular.

We had booked an afternoon tea several weeks ago and it seemed that it had been made up that day and stored in the fridge from then! The clotted cream looked like it had been put out before and was not creamy and smooth. I queried this and the waitress said she had made up the tea and refrigerated it that morning. The cake slices looked stale and not nice compared with those given to others being served elsewhere. Two pieces of chocolate sponge, which I hate, and two of Victoria sandwich, but no choice. The sandwiches were good and there was plenty of tea. This afternoon tea was a gift from friends for my 70th birthday which included prosecco, which we asked to come straight away and had to ask for again later as it had been forgotten. Overall I think it would have been better to just turn up and order but that wasn't part of the gift token!

I’ve had two very different experiences at The kitchen, within less than 24 hours. On Friday my parents and I were very well catered for and not pressured to be quick even though we arrived so close to closing time. Then today I returned with my daughter and partner. I mentioned I was surprised that people now reserve tables in cafes ....as two of the tables were unavailable to us. To this I was rebuked by one of the staff while the other was seen pulling faces behind my back. After this we all felt too uncomfortable to stay so said as much and left. While we were leaving one of the employees shouted ....yes shouted about how rude we were! What a shame that a usually pleasant place to visit was tainted by very rude staff who had no concern for the other customers let alone us. In a town with plenty of places to eat maybe having such staff could be detrimental to your business.

I wanted a quick lunch on my was back to London from Cornwall and I’m so glad that I found this delightful cafe. It was hard to choose from the menu as I wanted most items and the cakes looked amazing. I plumped for the Brie salad which was delicious, in fact I tried to recreate it when I got home (it was nowhere near as good!). Will definitely stop next time I’m nearby.

Francesca and the team were wonderful and welcoming. We had arranged, at very short notice to bring our wedding party to a Sunday breakfast despite it also being Father's day. We couldn't have asked for more! The food and drinks were great and the hospitality amazing. Would definitely recommend

The Kitchen staff are always welcoming, even when it is busy. Their cakes are home made and look delicious, however, although they do have some gluten free, they aren't dairy free as well so I still haven't managed to try any. One day maybe :)

On a quiet and damp Bank Holiday Sunday this was one of the only places we could find open in Ilminster & lucky for us it was. Brunch was scrambled eggs for me & breakfast bap for my partner. Both were tasty from local produce & good quality and good value for money. The coffee was excellent.

Popped in midweek for a sandwich and pot of tea. The bread was very fresh and soft and was overflowing with prawns and a delicious dressing, this was served with a lovely side salad. We were made to feel very welcome with a nice smile and great service. I know people have commented on it getting busy and noisy but it was quieter when we went in and would be worth a visit anyway. Sign of a good business if you ask me! Lovely menu, a little gem.

Myself & my family visited this lovely restaurant for afternoon tea bank holiday weekend.

We called in here for a hot drink whilst in Ilminster with my mother and sister on Saturday. Very disappointed with the place. Constant noise from, I presume, the coffee machine, too many tables now crammed in. When we sat at the table we noticed that it had tea/coffee spilt on it so when a man came to take our order we asked for it to be wiped. He said he would come back and do it. When we left after around 20 minutes it had still not been done. Whilst the tea and coffee were nice our visit was spoilt by the noise and lack of basic hygiene by not ensuring tables are wiped down after each customer. Would benefit from being less crowded with tables and staff given basic training in hygiene and cleanliness.

Nice hot drinks, however the lemon cake we had was dry and was disappointing. Good comfortable environment.

Such a lovely warm welcome, scrumptious cakes and yummy sandwiches and as much tea as you can drink lovely way to spend Saturday afternoon ❤️

Stopped for breakfast and tea. Food was really nice, and the prices were good. The table was left grubby but once waitress informed she cleaned it straight away :-)
