The King's Head Inn - JD Wetherspoon in Wiltshire

Pretty shocking service at the bar. We ordered a tequila at 2.30pm in memory of someone special and the bar lady made super judgemental comments about "going for it" at "lunch time".... And it was in a joking way. Very disappointed. Definitely not a great vibe.

Eggs were closer to raw than cooked, breakfast was cold as a whole. Yes it's cheap but there are much better places to go for not much more money.

Beautiful out side area With smoking and non smoking areas is very nice Brilliant location in the city as I had family members already sat my drinks got to me after I had sat down little slow with app orders but was very under staffed

Wetherspoons. Pretty good decor, food is what you'd expect, but it hot and usually served quickly.

Been to 300 Wetherspoons and the poor service and bad attitude of 2 members of staff puts this place in the bottom 5, quite an achievement at 3pm, also peas were grey 🤢

Excellent food and great prices. It's a shame there was a mother on her mobile and her child screaming it's head off. We moved to another part of the pub along with other people.

Great town centre position. Well equipped rooms, only disappointment is that no rooms overlook the river.

I tried to order an all day brunch. That was not available. I checked the menu and tried to order bangers and mash. Also not available. The staff said there are so many things from the menu not available. I left and went to another pub.

Went for a meal tonight what a disaster no eggs or sausages, or steak and kidney puddings not even an apology Just gave up and left Get your act together.

Beer,food,service all good tables cleaned before we sat down.Not long to wait for food.👍

It's fine for a wetherspoons, cheap drinks and pretty central

Food has gone downhill dramatically. Prison food is better, was always a fan but can't do it anymore, ANY takeaway is better. Spoons is just for drinks now. Fish is massively over done and looks like it's been kicked into the fryer. Burgers are dry and just as disappointing.

All wetherspoons have great food and it's quick service and I rate them all, bit the 3x I've been into this Spoons all of the tables are dirty and there are piles of dirty glasses left everywhere. Every empty table has dirty glasses and plates on it, it's disappointing as Spoons is our go to place, no matter where we are. Other than this, it's great.

Well run pub and inn, great service, food and drinks throughout. Bed was not comfortable for us but otherwise a great place to spend a night.

Often use this Weatherspoons, food normally ok, not today,new menu!!!! NO GRILLS (gammon, steak etc?) No steak or curry club! The food we had today wasn't good, the sausages looked deep fried, the beans were tasteless!! What's going on Spoonies? Lost a group of regular customers

Ed didn’t deliver my chippys. Very sad about it. BUT furthermore he has incredible stability when handling drinks from A to B (deserves a raise for that) Big up ed. Love (p.s still awaiting my chippys)

Quick and pleasant service and very good food 👍🥃😌 This is my latest visit to The Kings Head and we had a meal. My partner had a curry but they had no rice so she had chips and pomperdoms ect I had 8 fish bites, chips and mushy peas. They were the worst meals we ever had in many weathspoons we have visited over the years. I'm afraid we won't be going there again. We will venture further afield to either Andover or Amesbury.

Most 'Spoons are good. They preserve substantial buildings that would otherwise decay, they are keen to employ makee-learnee staff, the beer is almost always in prime condition (and priced most favourably) and the provender salubrious and quickly served. On this occasion, old sailors who served on the same ship (HMS Aurora) some 50 years ago, travelled from Southampton, Chandlers Ford and Bath to reunite, exchange improbable stories, quaff good ale over lunch and thoroughly enjoy the visit. We done yon King's Head Inn - we shall have to do it again.........a bit sooner though, next time.

I absolutely loved this hotel and pub. Fabulous location right by the river in Salisbury.a very short distance to walk to the Cathedral and the multitude of shops and restaurants and bars. And the best thing is....you have the Wetherspoons pub attached to the hotel so you can enjoy cheap drinks and a delicious breakfast in the morning,and free hot drinks!! My room was very nice and the beds were super comfy....couldn't fault anything

This trip was a great success. Cocktails and shots following a Bottomless Brunch elsewhere! Ordered drinks on the app, they arrived, cannot complain!

Service was very poor (staff obviously overstretched), we had to ask where our food was, when it eventually arrived one was stone cold.

As good as any Wetherspoons for a great lunch. Excellent service, fast, friendly and polite. Great location in the city and next to the river.

A typical Weatherspoons, Food reasonable quality and price, staff very pleasant. Does attract some dirty and odd customers and there could be more staff to remove dirty plates, etc and clean tables. However a great feature for me is that there is no background 'music' and no giant blaring TV.

Hotel in a good location. Room good value, albeit a bit of a trek/difficult to get to (numerous doors/stairs/corridors, even when navigating the same floor). The room was also very quiet, didn't have any issues with noise from the bar (couldn't hear it at all). Food a bit hit and miss. Overall, I enjoyed my visit, and would return.

Despite the long queues and waiting times, this Wetherspoons is an idyllic spot in the centre of Salisbury.

We had a great, spacious room, everything was clean and the food was good and the beer was cheap.

There were 10 empty tables, but were all full of dirty plates and glasses. We had to clear a table to sit at and nobody offered to wipe it down for us, even though our table was covered in food and dry sticky drink. We ordered our drinks on the app and waited almost 20 minutes, before I asked a waitress if our drinks were on the way. She said she was too busy to find out for us........this waitress walked past every single dirty table, without clearing them, the whole time we were there. When I was a waitress, we were told that you shouldn't go back to the kitchen empty handed. The amount of customers that walked in and straight back out again, because of the dirty tables, was ridiculous. Our pizzas were lovely on the other hand and the bar staff were very helpful

Probably the best weatherspoon I've ever been to. Wow, simple food was cooked brilliantly, amazing happy service, great lay out. 10/10

Really disappointing we travel alot in our caravan all year round so we have been in a lot of weatherspoons and it as always been brilliant but this was awful dirty tables flies all over plenty of staff but stood about talking, we always order fish and chips, which we really enjoy but this time fish was that tough it was like shoe leather ,cold and uneatable nobody came to see if everything okay like they do everywhere else really awful

The hotel is a period building with an excellent central location. We stayed as a couple on a Saturday night. Our twin room was set as a double so we had a huge six ft bed, which was very comfortable with good quality bedding. The room was not overly hot and stuffy and I had a good night’s sleep. The room was large with super high ceilings, well equipped bathroom and felt recently refurbished. Our room was 110, which was not over the pub and faced the back - it was quiet. I am guessing all rooms on this first floor are similar with the even numbers facing the rear (just a guess). Nice tea and coffee facilities too. Friendly staff. It was a good price and I definitely recommend.

Good location, parking over the road behind Sainsbury's, £10 for 24 hours, room clean tidy although a bit tired , and shower curtain should be lobbed 🫢staff helpful.

The King's Head Inn is a beautiful Wetherspoons hotel located in the heart of Salisbury. I opted to use this instead of Premier Inn as I found the location much more convenient for someone who does not drive, and the price was substantially lower. Reception is located on the first floor, and the check in process was very efficient and professional. Everything was well explained and the staff member was attentive and friendly. First impressions really are everything and this check in left me feeling welcome, so thank you (I didn't catch your name sorry). On arrival to my room, it was ridiculously hot. Luckily, the temperature system is easily adjustable but it is also incredibly noisy so there was no chance of me sleeping with it on. The room was smaller than other Spoons hotels but it was cosy, quiet and quaint. The bathroom was stunning, all facilities worked as intended and overall for the price this room is brilliant value. Unfortunately, my only main issue was getting to sleep. The pillows really were not for me, and I could not adjust to them at all. Once I got to sleep I had a fairly good night, so this wouldn't affect me returning if I wanted to explore the area. The sound proofing in the bathroom is also very poor; there were cathedral bells going off outside which was audible to the point where you'd think you were outside. Thankfully, in the main part of the room this was not an issue. I used the main Wetherspoons pub downstairs for an evening meal and breakfast. The food and drink received on both occasions was perfect, and I have no issues here. However, the service was very poor indeed for what I am used to at Wetherspoons. It took half hour to receive my food, and while I appreciate they were busy, I have never waited this long at a spoons before. This particular spoons does seem to struggle to meet the targets with speed of service. I wasn't in a rush on this occasion, so it was okay, but if I was it could have been a problem. Overall, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Reception was brilliant, the room was great value and the food was all fine. It's just the service speed of the food that I feel needs to be improved, and some comfier pillows would be welcomed. But all in all, nothing was enough of an issue to prevent a return.

Didn't booked table around restaurants so ended up here. Usual wetherspoons nothing special. Dirty tables, moody staff, very late service. Btw very nice location next to the river. Lovely beer garden and seatings next to river. Nice building and plenty of seatings on 2 floors. I like upper one more quieter and less crowded. Food was ok for the price you're paying. Drinks very cheap specifically beer but i enjoyed wine.

Easy to get to by bus, just a short walk from centre. Affordable prices!

Ordered 1 Coke on the app and it took 20 mins to come wasn't even busy at the bar.

Hotel of fairly good value. Staff were excellent and friendly. Room was clean and good amenities etc. Nice location and the having the restaurant in the bar was great. The quality or accuracy of the food served in the bar could perhaps be improved, but given the quite reasonable pricing and large variety, still overall well worth it.

This review is for the restaurant. The food was fine for the price, but most tables hadn't been cleared. To be honest it was a bit of a bomb site. I appreciate it was busy, but maybe more staff are needed. after my main I ordered a hot chocolate and a dessert neither came for ages so because I ordered off the app I thought I'd speak to a member of staff I showed them my order and after a while a fairly melted dessert turned up, but no hot chocolate so I went and asked again and he said it comes on a different order so it'll be with you in a sec. it never did turn up and considering I had shown them my order 3 times by now I just gave up. my friend who did get his drink went to the first coffee machine, but it had ran out of most of the drinks so he went downstairs to use the other one and that didn't work properly either.

Noisy and disorganised, rude, abrupt and badly trained staff, overly complex online ordering system. Loos not brilliant. Industrial style catering. Dishes literally thrown on the table. No attempt at style or panache. No garnish and not all of the order served together. Napkins would have been nice. For all that, the food was reasonably tasty and portion sizes acceptable. All the ambience of a works canteen

Surprisingly good for the price. Accessible room, helpful staff. Technically no parking, but they let you on the drive for long enough to unload luggage and wheelchair. Location is very close to the centre even by my standards.

Unfriendly and not pleasant staff, Plus food was burnt and rock hard no taste at all. I will stick to my local wetherspoons I think for now on.

Arrived up with our CAMRA vouchers. Not happy to take the cider voucher and so slow with the their service that we left. They kept the voucher!

Nice Spoons but service often lacking. I go there for coffee regularly but there is often only one person serving when it's busy.

In the bar area, all the tables had dirty plates etc. The bar staff did not seem to care and the food service was not good. I will not be visiting again, could not wait to get out

Great spot in the centre of Salisbury. Everything I would expect from a Wetherspoon's hotel.

Checked in with 2 bikes. Given room on 1st floor (accessible via lift... so best floor for bikes... stored in room). Staff very helpful. Then explored Salisbury. Got back and went to bed. Room cold & heating didn't seem to work. Plus a huge Johnson Controls device outside our bathroom window was growling noisily all night. So if using 1st floor avoid rooms in this part of the building (Room 113). Our friends in Room 101 didn’t have any noise issues.

Headed here for a drink for my birthday. Lots of space and a nice outside area. Currently making upgrades so there is scaffolding. They have made it easy to know where to enter. Nice, inviting atmosphere.

Not a bad venue and located next to the river, however, on a Friday, when the weather is getting better such a lack of staff working the bar. There were actually queues with waiting times of approximately 10 mins. Every single person waiting was commenting on the lack of service, some were quite vocal. I felt for the staff as they were non stop and I expect getting the brunt of people's annoyance at waiting.

Stopped for lunch, very tasty fish and chips and G&T fir great price. Staff friendly and helpful 👌

Edited Review from 2019: The renovations in the rooms were pleasant with modern toilets/baths and bed frames etc along with a small closet and vanity area supplied with a generous amount of treats. However, the receptionist that me and my family encountered was extremely rude and seemingly racist as she treated a white guest before us with respect and friendliness. The moment he left, she shot a glare at us as we approached the reception and stood up from her seat which I found a little defensive for no reason and talked to us in a condescending manner for the rest of our time at the inn. When asked if we could forfeit our booking (we hadn’t even stepped foot in the room yet) she sneered, saying we'll still be charged for our “stay” that night regardless. If she had been more polite, we wouldn’t have minded at all if it was hotel policy. She was a blonde young woman with a silver piercing around the mouth, arguably, she was the rudest receptionist I've ever met. We decided to stay the night anyway as it was quite late and we were going to be charged anyway. Regardless, this hotel would have been a cosy and comfortable stay if the receptionist wasn’t so rude at first. The following day, the two ladies at the reception were wonderful and hospitable.

Always like Wetherspoons building (well.mostly) this one was well kept in a great location.

It's a 'Spoons. You walk past the slot machines that look like they'd be better located in a Las Vegas casino, find the nearest wobbly table, order on the app so you don't have to socially interact with anyone, and someone in the kitchen sticks your meal in the microwave while the bartender brings you a pitcher with mostly ice, mixer and something vaguely resembling alcohol. Wetherspoons (of any variety) is cheap, fast and reliable. You certainly don't attend for the ambiance (depression in brick and mortar form) or the quality of food (industrial microwave meals). Although tbf, their mixed grill is banging (possibly because it's one of the few things *not* microwaved).

Lunch was OK but not that good large mix grill egg over done onion rings cold taste or flavour.

Marked down due to bar server who had created a queue for service and then got funny as the beer on the Spoon's app I wanted wasn't on so checked on untapped what others where.. other than that cracking spoons and I like the staircase etc.

Great hotel in the center of Salisbury, once you are here you can walk to all the major sights. As of March 2023 it may be better to just park at the central car park and walk 5 min to the hotel. You can pay for the parking online and it is free overnight.

I was refused a bottle of water which I had paid for before an incident had happened which I had apologised for but the manager told me as he was the manager he can refuse a drink to me as he was the manager regardless of water being a human right!
